Millard Grant Phillips, 82, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, and Buskirk, Kentucky, passed away Monday morning, Oct.13, 2003, in the Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete but visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Inc.

Irene 'Renie' May
Irene "Renie" May, 83, of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, formerly of Belfry, died October 10, 2003 at Green Meadows Health Care Center.

She was born at Pinsonfork, Kentucky on March 7, 1920, the daughter of the late Alex and Cora (Cavins) Murphy.

Renie was preceded in death by her husband, George "Buck" May and her only son, George W. May. She was also preceded by three brothers, Fon (Della), Charles (Ann), and Van Murphy, four sisters, Jane (Edgar) Hackney, Goldie (Thomas) May, Texie (Mayo) Baldwin, and Pauline (Carl) Williamson.

She was retired from the South Williamson Appalachian Hospital Dietary Department after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Women's Auxillary at the hospital, a member of the Belfry Homemaker's Club and the Belfry Women's Club.

Renie was a faithful member of the Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church at Belfry.

She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and David Preston, sister Gleemal (Dillard) Whitener, a sister-in-law, Audrey Murphy, her roommate and dear friend, Pauline Harp, a special niece, Ramona Miller, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, at the Rogers Funeral Home with Brother Mike Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a special service at 7 at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Fred Hatfield, Danny McCoy, Jim Watson, Bill Lambert, Rudolph Layne, Sammy Thacker, Harold Borders and Charles "Fuzzy" Keesee.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Resident's Activity Fund of Green Meadows Health Care Center, 310 Boxwood Run Road, Mt. Washington, Kentucky 40047.

Arrangement are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Opal Mounts
Opal Mounts, 66, passed away on Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at the Toledo (Ohio) Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1937, to James and Dema Charles in McCarr, Kentucky

Opal married Danny Mounts on May 14, 1954. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church. Opal loved to be with her grandchildren and children. She enjoyed going to the park with her husband. She collected angels and many other figurines.

She was preceded by her husband by her husband, Danny; brothers, Clarence and Earmel Charles.

Surviving are her children, Roger (Rebecca) Mounts, Terry (Barbara) Mounts and Danny (Margaret) Mounts; six grandchildren, three step grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one brother, James (Connie) Charles; one sister Dorothy (Bernard) Wells; and friends, Mary Lou Harmon, Pat (Howard) Pippins, Ada (James) Atkins and Martha Cronberg.

Friends by visit the family Monday and Tuesday, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., Toledo. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the First Apostolic Church. Interment will follow in the Toledo Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Apostolic Church.

Mary Lou Robinson Stone
Mary Lou Robinson Stone, 74, of Shelbiana, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Jefferson City, Tenn., at her daughter's residence.

Born March 16, 1929, in Lee, Va., to the late Lanford Robinson and Sue McCon-nell Robinson, she was a homemaker and a member of Shelby United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Edward Lee Stone and wife Debbie of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; daughters, Susan E. Johnson and husband John of Jefferson City, Tenn., Felicia J. Stone of Jefferson City, Tenn. and Theresa A. Skeens and husband Derik of Flatwoods, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Terra Combs and Taylor A. Skeens.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, 2 p.m. at Lucas and Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald D. Riggs officiating. Burial will follow at R.H. Ratliff cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, 4p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lucas and Hall Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shelby United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 230, Shelbiana, Kentucky 41562.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Hall Funeral Home.

Christine Varney Wolford
Christine Varney Wolford, 69, of Aflex, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky

Born September 7, 1933, in Sharondale, Kentucky, to the late Jim Varney and Elsie Lowe Varney, she was a homemaker and a member of Faith Mission Church, McCarr, Kentucky

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kinser Donald Wolford, one son, and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her four daughters, Donna Gooslin of McCarr, Kentucky, Wanda (Rodney) Isom of Sparta, Tn., Lois (Millard) Mann of McCarr, Kentucky and Ava (James) Maynard of Chattaroy, W. Va.; two sisters, Ruth May of Sidney, Kentucky and Clarene (James) McCoy of Burnwell, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 8, 2003, 1 p.m., at Faith Mission Church, McCarr, Kentucky with Rev. Jimmy Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Family cemetery, Peter Fork, McCarr, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Faith Mission Church, McCarr, Kentucky with special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Arthur Chester Hale
Arthur Chester Hale, 85, of Lovely, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born October 31, 1917, to the late Julias and Mary Staton Hale in Martin Co., Kentucky is was a saw mill operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Fields Hale.

Surviving are his sons, Kenneth Hale of Patastala, Ohio, Chester Hale of Lovely, Kentucky, Bobby Hale of Pilgrim, Kentucky and Johnny Hale of Lovely, Kentucky; daughters, Lois Powers of Johnstown, Ohio, Kathy Evans of Johnstown, Ohio and Debbie Harmon of Pilgrim, Kentucky; brothers, Aaron Hale of Pilgrim, Kentucky and Ernest Hale of Pilgrim, Kentucky; sisters, Vicie Elkins of Hatfield, Kentucky and Eula Dillon of Kermit, W. Va.; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 10, 2003, 1 p.m., at Warfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rush Muncy officiating. Burial will follow in Family cemetery at Caney Bottom.

Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday after 6 p.m. at the Warfield Funeral Chapel.

Eva C. Akers
Eva C. Akers, 82, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Lawrenceburg, Tenn.

She was born September 9, 1920, in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late John Kidd and Dora Hall.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2003, 11 a.m. at Justice Funeral Home with burial following at Davidson Memorial Gardens, Floyd Co., Kentucky

Visitation will be held Friday beginning at 4 p.m. for family and 5 p.m. for friends.

Pricy B. Alley
Pricy B. Alley, 75, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Born August 3, 1928, in Martin Co., Kentucky to the late Anderson and Dovie Alley, she was a night assistant at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home. She was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diann Dear; brothers, Thomas and Henry A. Alley; sister, Minta Emma Reinhart.

Surviving are her brothers, Clinton Alley of Michigan, Fred Alley of Michigan and Jesse Frank Alley of Michigan; sisters, Pauline Copley of Warfield, Kentucky, Ruth Newsome of Kermit, W. Va., Effie Chaffin of Huntington, W. Va., Lois Faye Mounts of Groveport, Ohio, Bye Dalton of Inez, Kentucky and Oma Fletcher of Michigan.

She was a caregiver for the children of John and Sara Callaham, John David Callaham, Kelly Earl Callaham, Joan Ellen Callaham and William Russ Callaham.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2003, 1 p.m. at Inez Funeral Chapel with Rev. Woodrow Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Bluegrass cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky

Visitation will be held Friday from 5 - 9 p.m. at the Inez Funeral Chapel.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Phillip Stanley
Phillip Stanley, 54, of Canada, Kentucky died Saturday night, August 9, in the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky

Lassie Harris McCoy

Lassie Harris McCoy, 96, of Ransom, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

She was born on March 26, 1907, in Ransom to the late Wayne and Vina Phillips Hatfield. She was a homemaker and member of the First Smaria Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Roland Harris and Bob McCoy; one son, James Lucas Harris; two brothers, Thurman Hatfield and Verlan Hatfield; one granddaughter, Loretta Whitt Smith; and two nephews, Ervin Conn and Robert Conn.

Mrs. McCoy is survived by one son, Bill R. Harris of Fallsburg, Kentucky; three daughters, Daryl (Donnie) Smith and Mary (Gennis) Smith, both of Ransom, and Ruby Whitt of Monticello, Kentucky; one sister, Myrtle Conn of Ransom; one special daughter, Mary Dotson of Monticello; one special granddaughter, Mary Church of Belfry, Kentucky; two special friends, Gertle Bowens and Connie Crawford; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel in Toler, Kentucky, with the Elder Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris cemetery at Ransom.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, with special services Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m., with the Elders Elmer Smith and Kenneth Hall officiating.

Clemmie Maynard

Clemmie Maynard, 74, of Elyria, Ohio, formerly of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at her residence.

She was born on April 13, 1929, in Huddy, Kentucky, to the late Dock and Matilda Hensley. She was employed as an assembler at Mueller Electric Company in Cleveland, Ohio, for 26 years before retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Maynard; one son, Edgar Maynard Jr., five sisters, Hazel Harrell, Ethel Daniels, Rosetta May, Dorothy McCown and Ada West; four bothers, Herbert, Columbus, Estel and James Hensley.

Mrs. Maynard is survived by two sons, Edward Maynard of Richmond, Va., and Wade Maynard of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Brenda Reitmeier of Albany, Ohio, Linda Martin of Clinton, Tenn., and Rita Hall of Elyria; two brothers, Robert Hensley of Pinsonfork, and Dock Hensley of Williamson; one sister Jean Hopkins of Steele, Kentucky; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon, Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the Rogers Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Kendrick. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens in Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Joe Reitmeier, John Reitmeier, Dale Maynard, Shane Maynard, Sam Martin and Jason Martin.

Visitation will be after 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, and after 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.

Elder Windell Hamilton

The Elder Windell Hamilton, 60, of Left Fork of Island Creek, Pikeville, Kentucky, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Pike County, Kentucky, on Sept. 10, 1942, to Stella Moore Hamilton and the late Lee Hamilton. He was a heavy equipment operator for Chapperal Coal Corporation. He was a member of the Island Creek Old Regular Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Willard Hamilton; two sisters Christine Hamilton and Geneva Hamilton.

In addition to his mother, Elder Hamilton is survived by two sons, Danny Hamilton of Pikeville, and Mark Hamilton of Michigan; four brothers, Gillis Hamilton of Florida, John Paul Hamilton and Leonard, both of Pikeville, and Hobart Hamilton of West Virginia; two sisters, Lovel Self of Michigan and Ivy Compton of Pikeville; three grandchildren, Amy Hamilton, Tina Hamilton, and Sydney Hamilton; six nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the Lucas and Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville with Hiram Adkins, Roger Hicks, Richard Staton, Roy Hamilton and other officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Island Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, 91 Dorton Creek Road, Jenkins, KY 41537.
