Amy Williams
Amy Williams, 95, of South Webster, Ohio, formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, died Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Best Care Nursing Home, Wheelersburg, Ohio.

Born September 15, 1909 in Meta, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Hween and Sarah Bell Phillips Johnson.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Williams; a son, Joe E. Williams and two sisters, Prue E. Gannon and Edith Scott.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Yvonne Deskins of South Webster, Ohio and Nellie Jones of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, L.J. Johnson of Meta, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2005 at the Rogers Funeral Home chapel, Belfry, Kentucky with Buddy Kendrick and Roger Blackburn officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lawson cemetery, Johns Creek, Kentucky

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2005, at the funeral home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Keith Sanders
Keith William Sanders, 34, of Richmond, Kentucky, formerly of Williamson, W.Va., died Friday, December 31, 2004.

He was born Nov. 3, 1970 in Livonia, Michigan.

Mr. Sanders was the owner of Superior Carpet Cleaning, a member of Bad Moon Motorcycle Club and had been a resident of Madison County for the past 12 years.

Survivors include: his father and stepmother, Larry and Doris Whittmore Sanders of Berea, Kentucky; his mother and stepfather, Jean Clark Williams and Fred Williams of Tampa, Fla.; maternal grandfather, Edmund Clark of Livonia, Mich.; nephew, Myloe Sanders of Richmond, Kentucky; several stepbrothers and stepsisters as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2005 at Reppert Funeral Home, Berea, Kentucky with Pastor Michael Barnes officiating.

Burial will follow in the Berea cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bad Moon Motorcycle Club.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to be made to the Bad Moon Motorcycle Club Toys for Kids Program, attention Dan Rawlins, P.O. Box 478, Richmond, KY 40475. (606) 422-6226.

Charles Hawkins
Charles Herbert Hawkins, 52, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Bailey Funeral Home chapel, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Burial will follow in the Wilson cemetery, Draffin, Kentucky

Visitation began at 6 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the funeral home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Joseph McCoy
Joseph Franklin "Tiny" McCoy, 81, went home to be with The Lord on Saturday, January 1, 2005, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

He was born September 12, 1923 in Pike County, Kentucky, a son of the late Frank and America Hatfield McCoy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlese McCoy; five brothers, Perry McCoy; Ferrell McCoy; Woodrow McCoy; Castle McCoy and Lark McCoy and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn McCoy.

He was a retired coal miner from Caney Branch Coal Company, a member of the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church and a World War II veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. McCoy is survived by his wife, Delores McCoy of Freeburn, Kentucky; two daughters, Shelia (Danny) Hamilton of Buford County, S.C. and Karen (Kevin) Layne of Freeburn, Kentucky; three sons, Gary (Debbie) McCoy of Columbia, Kentucky; Marshall (Jane) McCoy of Freeburn, Kentucky and Donald (Kathy) McCoy of Hilton Head, S.C.; one brothers, J.P. (Faye) McCoy of Florida; one sister, Ada Wright of Detroit, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Dwayne McCoy; Aaron McCoy; Seth McCoy; Gereron McCoy; Paul McCoy; Sharai McCoy; Joseph Stevens; Gabriel Stevens; Marlene McCoy; Sharlene McCoy; Michael Hamilton and Kelli Hamilton and five great-grandchildren, Rachel McCoy; Laken McCoy; Laryn Hamilton; Noah Hamilton and Aaron Hamilton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church with Rev. Benny Freeman and Rev. Tim Brown officiating.

Burial will follow in the Billy Dotson cemetery, Phelps, Kentucky

Military rites will be performed by DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2005 at the church with services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Ivan Coleman

Ivan Coleman, 76, of Mouthcard, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Mt. View Health Care, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005, 2 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2005, 6 - 8 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

James Stapleton

James Stapleton, 81, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 10, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005, 11 a.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with Pastor Shawn Bruce officiating. Burial will follow at Annie E. Young cemetery at Shelbiana, Kentucky

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005, after 6 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Maudie Burnett

Maudie Burnett, 92, of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 8, 2004, at her residence.

Born March 10, 1912, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Charlie Lowe and Angeline Scott Lowe, she was a wonderful mother and deeply loved by all her children and grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mary Elizabeth Old Regular Baptist Church for 54 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Burnett; grandchildren, Elaine Burnett, who she raised and cared for as her own, and Debbie Sue Regan; brothers, Charles, Rushie, Coolage, Prushie, Lawyer and Hughes Lowe; and sisters, Nancy Jude and Nettie Stepp.

Surviving are her sons, Harvey (Lenore) Burnett of Gallia County, Ohio, Jim (Sally) Burnett of Tampa, Fla., Gene (Angeline) Burnett of Nolan, W.Va., Paul (Vicky) Burnett of Oak Hill, Ohio, Russell (Marcie) Burnett of Columbus, Ohio and L.D. (Betty) Burnett of Alabama; daughters, Ethel Marcum of Oak Hill, Ohio, Mattie Cundiff of Hatfield, Kentucky, Grace (Sherman) Dials of Virginia, Kay (Lacy) Fletcher of Tennessee, Gladys Pearl (James) Dials of Virginia and Ovelt (Jeff) Trap of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are 53 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2004, 1 p.m., at Mary Elizabeth Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Wallace Muncy, Richard Staton, Bobby Scott and Lacy Walters officiating. Interment will follow at Family cemetery at Burgett Branch, Hatfield, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Wednesday and anytime Thursday at the church with services each night at 7 p.m.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky has assisted the family with arrangements.

Paul Belcher

Paul Belcher, 86, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at Mt. View Health Care.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2004, 1 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Ramey cemetery, Elkhorn City, Kentucky D.A.V. rites will be performed by Chapter #140, Elkhorn City.

Visitation will be held after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Hone, Inc., Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Nell Cauley

Nell Maynard Cauley, 59, Lincoln Street, Russellville, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Logan Memorial Hospital, Russellville, Kentucky

She was born November 3, 1945, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Harmon Bill Maynard and Sarahann Robison Maynard.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19, 2004, 2 p.m., at Sanders Funeral Home, Russellville, Kentucky with Bro. Joe Carrico and Bro. Wilbur Powell officiating. Interment will follow at Berea cemetery, Logan County, Kentucky

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 18, 2004, 5 - 9 p.m., at Sanders Funeral Home.

Dalton Mills
Dalton Lee Mills, 2-month-old son of Tonya Marie Mills of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2004.

He was born September 15, 2004 in Williamson, W.Va.

Dalton was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Mills.

In addition to his mother, Dalton is survived by his maternal grandmother, Deborah Mills of Ransom, Kentucky; maternal great-grandparents, Autrey and Josephine Prater of Phelps, Kentucky and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the Barranshea Church of God with Rev. Bobby Dale Wolford officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mounts cemetery at Sandsiding, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2004 at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Kentucky

James Maynard
James I. "Irley" Maynard, 64, of Varney, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Born May 12, 1940, in Pike County, Kentucky, to Kenny Maynard and Julie Setser Maynard, he was an auto worker for General Motors. He was a member of Piso Freewill Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Mae (Cline) Maynard of Varney, Kentucky; and son, James Michael "Jennifer" Maynard of Pikeville, Kentucky; daughter, Lisa "Shawn" Wagner of Belfry, Kentucky; brother, Richard Maynard of Chapmanville, W.Va.; sisters, Nora Jean Smith of Pikeville, Kentucky, Bobbie Jane Swimm of Pikeville, Kentucky, Lucille Mullins of Pikeville, Kentucky and Ann Andrews of Pikeville, Kentucky; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Pisa Freewill Baptist Church Saturday, November 20, 2004, 1 p.m. with Bill Maynard and Bobby Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Family cemetery at Big Branch.

Visitation will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Pisa Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, Kentucky

Betty Vermillion
Mrs. Betty Nichols Vermillion, 59, wife of Hubert Vermillion, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 17, 2004, in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Born November 11, 1945 in Martin County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Nichols, she was a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Hubert Vermillion; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Ronnie Deskins of Georgetown, Kentucky; one son, Roy Vermillion of Hilton Head, S.C.; seven sisters, Dorothy Porter of Debord, Kentucky Brenda Starr of Tennessee, Dianna Gilman of Delbarton, W.Va., Darlene Justice of Williamson, W.Va., Tammy Owens of Columbus, Ohio, Annette Maynard of Louisa, Kentucky and Judy Salmons of Inez, Kentucky; four brothers, Charles Nichols Jr., Ronnie Nichols and Larry Nichols, all of Columbus, Ohio and Ricky Nichols of Lenore, W.Va.; and two grandchildren, Cory and Casey Deskins.

Family and friends will be received from 6 - 9 p.m. Friday with special services at 7 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held at the Toler Freewill Baptist Church on Saturday, November 20, 2004, 1 p.m., with the Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating with interment to follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Flossie Justice

Flossie Justice, 76, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2004.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2004, 11 a.m., at Justice Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Justice cemetery, Jonician, Kentucky Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2004, with services each night at 7 p.m.

Clyde McKinney
Clyde Roy McKinney, 56, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1948, the son of Oakey Carl McKinney of Pineville, W.Va. and the late Ruth Arlene Lucas McKinney.

Visitation will be in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Pikeville, Kentucky, Wednesday, November 17, and Thursday, November 18, from 6 - 10 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, November 19, 2004, 11 a.m., with Billy Compton, Donnie Hall and ministers of the House of Prayer and Gospel officiating.

Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park with DAV Chapter 140 conducting the military service.
