Garnet Meade, 91, of Kermit, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Gainesville, Ga.

She was born March 29, 1913, at Warfield, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Warfield Methodist Church with minister Arnold Mollette officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps & Sons Funeral Home of Warfield, Kentucky

Archie Adkins

Archie D. Adkins, 66, formerly of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Northwest Community Healthcare in Illinois.

He was born November 11, 1937, in Pike County to Lester Adkins and Fannie Kinney.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 11, 2004, 12 noon, at Justice Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 10, 2 - 10 p.m. at Justice Funeral Home.

Phillip Elliott

Phillip L. Elliott, 66, of Regina, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 8, 2004, 12 noon, at Bailey Funeral Home with visitation at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday, July 8.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Joe Blackburn
Joe Kenneth Blackburn, 76, of Ransom, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 16, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1928, in Stone, Kentucky, to the late Ernest Blackburn and Jeannette Blackburn Blackburn, he was a retired educator and a former director of the NYC Work Program for the Pike County Board of Education with 42 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Blackburn and brothers, Bob and Ernie Blackburn.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Dotson Blackburn of Ransom, Kentucky; brother, Frankie Blackburn of Nevada; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Zola and John Phillips of Ransom, Kentucky Joe is survived and loved by several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 18, 2004, 2 p.m., at Hatfield Chapel with Rev. James T. Dotson and Rev. DeWitt Furrow officiating. Burial will follow at Dotson cemetery at Ransom, Kentucky His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Tivis Branham, Stewart McPeak, Gary Osborne, Gary Phipps, Lloyd Fields, Ronald Francisco, Joe Taylor, William (Bill) Hill and Bade Mullins.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Kyle Edward Ramey, 22, of Mouthcard, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 18, 2004, 2 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home,

Howard "Johnny" Hagerman, 76, of Beaver Creek Road, Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004, at Buchanan County General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 8, 2004, 1 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Johnnie Leedy

Johnnie Leedy, 79, of Shelbiana Road, Pikeville, Kentucky, died Monday, July 5, 2004. He is survived by wife Emaglea Moore Leedy.

Visitation will be held July 6 and 7 after 6 p.m. at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Pikeville, Kentucky Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Raccoon Primitive Baptist Church with burial following at the Parson/Chaney cemetery.

Hattie Collins
1915-2004

Hattie Maynard Collins, 89, of Raccoon, Kentucky, passed away July 14, 2004 at her home. Born June 26, 1915, the daughter of the late John T. Maynard and Minnie Varney Maynard, in this life she was a homemaker and a member of the Meta Baptist Church.

Hattie is survived by four daughters, Ruby Pearl (Mrs. Robert) Henson of Somerset, Kentucky, Ruth Ann (Mrs. Richard "Skippy") Maynard of Lexington, Kentucky, Doris Jean (Mrs. Roy) Charles of Vilonia, Ark., and Betty Sue (the late Clyde) Charles of Raccoon, Kentucky; five brothers, Bill Maynard of Pikeville, Kentucky, Layton Maynard of Raccoon, Kentucky, O.J. Maynard of Raccoon, Kentucky, Frank Maynard of Pikeville, Kentucky, and bob Maynard of Pinckney, Mich.; three sisters, Georgia Muncy of Pikeville, Kentucky, Ebba Jean Miller of Fort Ritchie, Fla. and Peggy Wolf of Brown City, Mich.; and 13 grandchildren, Jeffery Maynard of Lexington, Kentucky, Cynthia Maynard of Lexington, Kentucky, Mark Henson of Westminster, Co., Lynne Keys of Gosse Pointe, Mich., Tom Henson of Vtica, Mich., Dwayne Charles of Raccoon, Kentucky, James Charles of Eutow, Al., Sue Ann Branham of Robinson Creek, Kentucky, and Michael Charles of Raccoon, Kentucky; and 15 great grandchildren.

Hattie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Southa Collins; two children, Mary Lou Webb and Gary Southa Collins; and her brothers, Mack Maynard, J.T. Maynard, Woodrow Maynard, Claude Maynard and Joseph L. Maynard; and one sister, Marlene Costa.

Visitation will be from 6 - 9 p.m. Friday at Community Funeral Home, Pikeville. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Meta Baptist Church with Bill Stagge officiating and burial following in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Pikeville.

David Williamson

David Williamson, 69, of Ypsilanti, Mich., formerly of Varney, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at his residence.

He was born on July 29, 1934, in Pike County, Kentucky, a son of the late Marshall and Mary Young Williamson. He was employed as a steel worker and was a member of the Community Freewill Baptist Church in Ypsilanti.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie D. Williamson; three daughters, Debra Cliff of Varney, Cherie (Earl) Ray of Ypsilanti and Shelia (Bill) Dorsey of Ann Arbor, Mich.; four sons, Mike (Lonnie) Williamson of Ypsilanti, Dale (Patricia) Williamson, Zebulon, Kentucky, Danny (Diane) Bragg of Saline, Mich., and Keith (Dawn) Bragg of Gregory, Mich.; three sisters, Mary (James) Robinette of Ypsilanti, Vera (Lonnie) Walters of Varney and Barbara (Gary) Ratliff of Spring City, Tenn.; two brothers, John Williamson of Varney and Cliffton Williamson of Sidney, Kentucky; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at the Community Funeral Home, Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, Kentucky Burial will follow in the Williamson Family cemetery at Varney.

Visitation will be prior to the services on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home.

Lenvil Ramey Sr.

Lenvil G. Ramey Sr., 65, of Louisville, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the Pearson-Ratter-man Brothers Funeral Home in Louisville. Entombment will follow in the Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday.

Bobbie Clark
Bobbie Lois (Pinson) Clark, 67, of Rockhouse Road, Sidney, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at her residence.

Born January 29, 1937, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Thomas Pinson and Ethel Billiter Pinson, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Clark was a Christian for 24 years of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jimmy and Lloyd Pinson; and a granddaughter, Tammy Jessie.

Surviving are her husband, Lester Clark of Sidney, Kentucky; sons, Kenneth (Teresa) Clark of Columbus, Ohio and Boyd (Lynn) Clark of Borderland, W.Va.; daughters, Shelia (David) Hensley of Borderland, W.Va., Kathryn (Harrison) Baisden of Borderland, W.Va., Debra Hill of Borderland, W.Va.; foster children, Earl and Frank Casey of Delbarton, W.Va.; brothers, Donald Lee Pinson of Sidney, Kentucky, Larry Pinson of Pikeville, Kentucky and Harry Pinson of Maher, W.Va.; sisters, Charlene Lawson of Brushy Creek, Kentucky, Shelby Maynard of Sidney, Kentucky, Betty June Davis of Maher, W.Va. and Linda Gale Smith of Orlando, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Tina Urconis, Charlie and Tara Baisden, Christa Meece, Matthew Clark, Shane and Sabrina Barker, B.J., Daniel and Joshua Clark, Chris and Shanda Carroll and Adam Hill; six-great grandchildren, Jonna and Tanner Urconis, Ryan and Madison Jessie, Kaleigh Baisden, Kerrigan Barker and Kyleigh Carroll.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2004, 12 noon, at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Harrison Baisden, her son-in-law, officiating. Burial will follow at Runyon-Maynard cemetery, Piso, Kentucky

Serving as pallbearers are Charlie Baisden, John Urconis, Kenneth Jude, B.J. Clark, Joshua Clark, Harold Sharp and Daniel Clark.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday at Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, with special services Friday at 7 p.m. with Rev. William Akers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Mattie Smith
Mattie Jude Smith, 80, of Pikeville, Kentucky, died Friday, July 23, 2004.

Born May 24, 1924, she was daughter of the late Ambrose and Maggie Stanley Jude.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Smith; a daughter, Mary Bell Nichols Howell; three sisters, Esta Fletcher, Cora Stoney and Lis Moore and three brothers, John Jude, James Jude and Calvin Jude.

She was a homemaker and a member of Heenon Church of Christ.

Survivors include: a son, Roger (Marie) Smith of Pikeville; a sister, Gracie Taylor of Lawrence County; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Heenon Church of Christ with Stallard Lynch officiating.

Burial will follow in the Walter Smith cemetery, Varney, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Community Funeral Home chapel, Zebulon Highway, Pikeville and after 4 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home.

Dinah Duty
Dinah Gail Hurley Duty, 49, of McCarr, Kentucky, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

Born Dec. 22, 1954, at Iaeger, W.Va., Mrs. Duty was a daughter of Mabel Farley Hurley and the late James Hurley.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene Hurley, Kenneth Hurley, John Hurley and David Hurley.

Mrs. Duty was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist Faith.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Roger Dale Duty of McCarr; three sons, Roger Dale Duty II, Joey Brian Duty and Jonathan Aaron Duty, all of McCarr; a brother, Larry Hurley of Varney; three sisters, Stella Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; Phyllis Hurley of Matewan and Judy Mathias of Williamson and one grandson, George Dylan Duty of McCarr, Kentucky

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2004, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Kentucky

Burial will follow in the Alley cemetery at Ransom, Kentucky

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. ­ 9 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel.

Julian Lester
Julian Lester, 76, of Feds Creek, Kentucky, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the Bailey Funeral Home chapel, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Burial will follow in the Lester Family cemetery, Steele, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the funeral home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
