Dolores Gronefeld Keppler, 89, of Newport, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Keppler, died in 1968. A daughter, Rita Keppler, died in 1978. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Church, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the church, 840 Isabella St., Newport 41071. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Marie Marshall, 77, of West Union, Ohio, formerly of Maysville, died Monday at her home. She was a retired employee of Parker Tobacco Co., Maysville.

Survivors include her husband, Felbert Marshall; sons, Larry Bloomfield and Roy Boyd, both of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Billy Boyd of Portsmouth, Ohio; daughters, Kathie Daniels of Maysville and Naomi Lanter of Mays Lick; brothers, Donnie Jordan of Maysville and Jessie Jordan of South Bend, Ind.; sisters, Annie Bloomfield of Sugar Grove, Ohio, Margie Sauer of Vanceburg and Betty Simms of Maysville; and several grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Washington Baptist Cemetery, Maysville.

John "Boots" Mattingly, 82, of Bromley, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired mechanic with Hudepohl Distributors, Cincinnati. A son, Johnny Mattingly, died in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Mattingly; sons, Woodson Mattingly of Williamstown and Charles Mattingly of Cincinnati; stepsons, George Croley of Mt. Carmel, Ohio, Ray Croley of Dayton, and Roy Croley of Ludlow; a daughter, Janie Hudson of California; a stepdaughter, Elsie Harris of Leesburg, Ga.; a brother, Donald Mattingly of Mexico; 22 grandchildren and 23 great- grandchildren.

Services will be private. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Daniel Robert Meier, 56, of Walton, died Tuesday at his daughter's home in Taylor Mill. He was a former maintenance machinist with Formica Corp., Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Meier; sons, Daniel Scott Meier of Cincinnati and Darren Wayne Meier of Covington; a daughter, Dana Lynn Blanchet of Taylor Mill; his mother, Emma Charlotte Meier of Covington; a sister, Nancy Cecrest of Latonia; brothers, James L. Meier of Florence and Larry J. Meier of Latonia; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Norman D. Pollitt, 70, of Newport, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Newport Eagles and Newport Elks. He also was a member of Disabled American Veterans and an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include daughters, Deborah Pollitt of Austin, Texas , Dianna Taulbee of Alexandria, Kathy Pollitt of Ft. Thomas and Linda Cox of Laurinburg, N.C.; sons, Ralph Pollitt of Kiowa, Colo., Richard Pollitt, Robert Pollitt, Eric Pollitt and Don Pollitt, all of Austin, Texas , Raymond Pollitt of Ft. Thomas and Mike Pollitt of Crittenden; sisters, Faye Wade of Silver Grove, Mary Stevens of Grants Lick and Betty Brann of Melbourne; brothers, Wayne Pollitt of Melbourne and Ralph Pollitt Jr. of Falmouth; and 28 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Caroline Marie Woods was stillborn July 12 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Survivors include her parents, Michael and Donna Woods of Villa Hills; a brother, Matthew Ganshirt of Villa Hills; a sister, Michelle Woods of Villa Hills; and grandparents, John Woods of Florence, and Ardyth Flottman of Villa Hills.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Villa Madonna Boosters, 2500 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills 41017. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Homer McMillen, left stamp on Taylor Mill

Homer Arnold McMillen was committed to his city, having served on the Taylor Mill City Council for 27 years.

"My father is the end of an era," said a son, Larry McMillen of Crestview Hills. "He ran for city council and never had any other office in mind. He didn't use it as a stepping stone. The city, as he saw it, was just a composition of people in it. He loved the people in it. They were all his neighbors."

Mr. McMillen, 79, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired research and development supervisor with Nutone Inc., Cincinnati.

Mr. McMillen helped establish the Taylor Mill Fire Department and Life Squad. He was was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church, Pendleton County, and Colonel Clay Masonic Lodge No. 159, Covington.

As a hobby, Mr. McMillen handcrafted furniture, such as tables and grandfather clocks.

"He was exceptional," his son said.

Other survivors include his wife, Elberta McMillen of Taylor Mill; sons, Dale McMillen of Villa Hills, and John McMillen of Newport; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Short Creek Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to the church.

Virgil Deaton, 72, of Southgate, died at 7:58 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired foreman with Ohio Valley Slate Co., Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Hornsby Deaton; sons, James Deaton, Timothy Deaton, and Jeffrey Deaton, all of Newport, David Lee Deaton of Cold Spring and Patrick Deaton of Ft. Thomas; brothers, Everett Deaton of Newport and Mark Deaton of Erlanger; and sisters, Mavis Sebastian of Butler, Edna Mae Sumpter of Corinth, Marion Baker of Hazard, Barbara Howard and Lucy Wilson, both of Newport.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Baptist Church, Fifth and Park Avenue, Newport 41071.

Christopher M. Duffner, 26, of Covington, died July 19 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. Arrangements are pending at Ronald Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Ellora E. Hinton, 107, of Flemingsburg, died Monday at Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg. She was a former postmistress and member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Fleming County. She was a member of Fleming County Garden Club. Her husband, Frank L. Hinton, died in 1973.

Survivors include sons, Eugene F. Hinton of Florence and Frank O. Hinton of Flemingsburg; daughters, Eulene Hensley of Ft. Mitchell, Ruby Spradling of Covington and Golda Miller of Lexington; a foster daughter, Lois Alderson of Orange, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grand children and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home, Flemingsburg. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. today until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Flemingsburg County Cemetery.

Marvin H. Iames, 68, of Erlanger, died at 6:55 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired truck driver and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include a son, Duane Iames of Erlanger; daughters, Helene Musard and Tammy Breeden, both of Covington; a stepson, Rick Smallwood of Cincinnati; his mother, Anna Mae Metcamp of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Carl Johnson, 94, of Butler, died July 19 at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Butler Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.

William Lowell Kirby, 80, of Foster, died Tuesday at Extended Care Center, Augusta. He was a retired sheet-metal worker. His wife, Emily Stewart Smith Kirby, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Billy Kirby of Florence; stepdaughters, Nancy Smith of Covington, Evelyn Gregory of Newport, Aileen Reid of Manchester, Clara Wamble of Corinth, and Bobbie Cochran of Foster; stepsons, Charlie Smith of Hamilton, Ohio, and A. T. Smith of Baltimore; sisters, Ruth Stokes of Demossville, Ina Renner of Pine Hill and Mary Halcomb of Somerset; and several grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cemetery, Route 2, Foster 41043.

Ruth T. Matracia, 69, of Ft. Mitchell, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. Her husband, Michael Matracia Jr., died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters, Ruth Matracia of Birmingham, Ala., Mary Ann Bromwell of Edgewood, Marilyn Lunn of Alexandria and Amy Matracia of Ft. Thomas; sons, Michael Matracia III of Taylor Mill and John Matracia of Edgewood; her mother, Edith Tuemler Rueter of Villa Hills; brothers, Rev. Joseph Rueter of Cold Spring and Raymond Rueter of Edgewood; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Wayne Otto Moose, 78, of Bellevue, died at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday at Highlands of Ft. Thomas nursing home. He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co.

His wife, Elsie Louise Moose, died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters, Laurie Myers of Anderson, Ohio, Bonnie Norman of Bellevue and Julie Trent of Dayton; a son, Daniel Franklin Moose of Bellevue; a brother, Jerry Moose of Alexandria; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.
