Deborah Kay Aaron, 48, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born August 30, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Edmond Gene Blackburn and Ruby Lois Blackburn, she was a medical secretary for Dr. Shafer and formerly worked at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Belfry First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Roland Dean Aaron; daughters, Amanda Ruth Gauze of South Williamson, Kentucky and Jennifer Grace Aaron of the home in Forest Hills, Kentucky; brother, Keith Blackburn of Forest Hills, Kentucky; sisters, Sandy (Jim) Virse of Georgetown, Kentucky and Bobbie Blackburn of Georgetown, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kayla, Stephanie and Ruby Jada Gauze; and special friend, Kay Hatfield Blackburn.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 16, 2004, 2 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Elder Jerry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Her family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday night at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Daryl Hatfield

Daryl McCoy Hatfield, 89, of McCarr, Kentucky, died on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1915, in Ransom, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Phillip and Ella Jane Smith McCoy. She was homemaker, wife and mother of 12 and a member of the Samaria Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hatfield; one daughter, Agnes Hatfield Reister; two brothers, Acie McCoy and Bobby McCoy; four sisters, Mabel Hatfield, Myrl Sullivan, Dolly Dotson and Lorraine Alley; one daughter-in-law, Gaynor Young Hatfield; and two sons-in-law, James P. O'Nan and Ronald McCoy.

She is survived by eight sons, Ernie Hatfield of Danville, Kentucky, James Hatfield of Pikeville, Kentucky, Floyd (Bethel) Hatfield Jr. of Sulligent, Ala., Hank (Wanda) Hatfield of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Ance (Laketa) Hatfield and Lucas (Jan) Hatfield, both of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Thomas (Kathy) Hatfield and Bill (Kathy) Hatfield, both of McCarr; three daughters, Glada McCoy of Grove City, Ohio, Ann (Edward) Carter of Lexington, Kentucky, and Rebecca (John) Terrill of Nicholasville, Kentucky; two sisters, Agnes Dotson of Detroit, Mich., and Grace Hager of Ransom; one brother, Lucas (Ruby) McCoy of McCarr; special friend and care giver, Sue Ball; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home chapel in Belfry, Kentucky, with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Floyd Hatfield cemetery in McCarr.

Family will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, May 24, at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Samaria Primitive Baptist Church, Ransom.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

Jeanette Owens
Jeanette Varney Owens, 60, of Canada, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004, at her residence.

Born December 11, 1943, in Kimper, Kentucky, to the late John Varney and Lily Bostic Varney, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Owens was a member of Calvary Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Sid and Ernest Varney.

Surviving are her husband, Roy "Bunk" Owens of Canada, Kentucky; son, John Lester (Susan) Owens of Canada, Kentucky; daughter, Royetta (Robert) Parks of Canada, Kentucky; brothers, Ance Varney Jr. of Canada, Kentucky, Henry Varney of Kimper, Kentucky, Rora Varney of Kimper, Kentucky, Jesse Varney of Kimper, Kentucky, Lester Varney of Kimper, Kentucky and Armon Varney of McAndrews, Kentucky; one sister, Jenell Turnmire of Kimper, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, John Eric Owens and Joseph Dewayne Parks.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 16, 2004, 1 p.m., at Calvary Primitive Baptist Church, Varney Branch, Kimper, Kentucky with Primitive Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Varney Branch cemetery, Kimper, Kentucky Her nephews and son-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday and anytime Saturday at the Calvary Primitive Baptist Church with special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Daris Moore
Daris B. Moore, 62, of Conway, S.C., formerly of Ransom, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Conway Hospital in Conway, S.C.

Born September 6, 1941, in Logan, W.Va. to the late Anderson Moore Jr. and Novelene Osborne Moore, he was a retired coal miner and truck driver from Eastern Coal Company. Mr. Moore was a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sons, Daris, Mitchell and Anderson Moore.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Gail Smith Moore of Conway, S.C.; son, Grady (Sandy) Moore of Conway, S.C.; daughters, Christy (Danny) Baisden of Conway, S.C. and Becky (Daniel) Mounts of Newtown, W.Va.; brother, Larry "Ike" (Patsy) Moore of Emerald Isle, N.C.; sister, Sue Johnson of Williamson, W.Va. and Carol (Eddie) Blackburn of Kentucky; and six grandchildren, Baxleigh, Makayla, Lauren, Donovan, Brooke and Seth.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2004, 11 a.m. at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. James T. Dotson officiating. Interment will follow at Family cemetery at Ransom, Kentucky

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Wetzel Adkins, James Buddy Smith, Calvin Campbell, Tilden Smith and Richard Adkins. Active pallbearers are Larry Moore, Jeremy Moore, Scott Baisden, Jimmy Stepp, Jimmy Smith and Tilden "Bo" Smith.

Visitation will be held anytime Friday at the funeral home with services at 7 p.m.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky has assisted the family with arrangements.

Alicen Chapman

Alicen Ray Chapman, 30, of Kimper, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her residence.

Born June 14, 1973, to Mary Smith and the late W. Hollis Ray, she was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Eddie D. Chapman of Kimper, Kentucky; mother, Mary Smith Ray of Meta, Kentucky; son, Hollis Dean Chapman of Kimper, Kentucky; brothers, Ricky Ray of Meta, Kentucky, Donald Ray of Meta, Kentucky and Tim Yuhas of Pikeville, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2004, 11 a.m., at Community Funeral Home with Melvin Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Meta, Kentucky

Opal Smith

Opal Blanche Smith, 85, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 10, 2004, at UK Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky

Born May 31, 1918, in Buchannan County, Va., to the late John Henry Stacy and Ida Ellen Mounts Stacy, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Smith was a member of Freeburn Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Boone Smith; one daughter, Greta Jean Daugherty; three brothers, Rev. E.T. Stacy, Lawrence Stacy and Clifford Stacy.

Surviving are five sons, Herman G. Smith of Fairborn, Ohio, Robert Smith of Gallipolis, Ohio, Danny L. Smith of Fairborn, Ohio, Eddie Dean Smith of Freeburn, Kentucky and Donald Lee Smith of Frenchburg, Kentucky; four daughters, Vivian DeHart of Fairborn, Ohio, Janet Carol Caudill of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Gloria Annetta Spears of Gallipolis, Ohio and Opal "Binky" Smith of Lexington, Kentucky; two brothers, Bernard Stacy of New Boston, Texas and Estel Stacy of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Mavis Stacy of Orlando, Fla. and E. Leoda Mounts of Speedwell, Tenn.; 31 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2004, 1 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Nathaniel Hylton
Nathaniel Lee Hylton, 26, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Elkhorn Creek, Kentucky

He was born March 8, 1978 in Pike County, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 23, 2004, 2 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Wallace cemetery, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc., Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Ora Harris

Ora Reynolds Harris, 96, of McAndrews, Kentucky, died on Saturday, May 1, in the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

She was born on April 23, 1908, in Pike County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late William Anderson Chapman and Matilda Strough Chapman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Octavia Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Reynolds; her second husband, Bob Harris; four sons, James W. Reynolds, Edward L. Reynolds, Thomas L. Reynolds and Garrell L. Reynolds; and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Harris is survived by three sons, Olen (Sandra) Reynolds and Orvin (Marilyn) Reynolds, both of Troy, Ohio, and Gerria (Barbara) Reynolds of McAndrews, Kentucky; five daughters, Yantice Varney of McAndrews, Morrella (Kenneth) Johnson of Casstown, Ohio, Dalphine (Rick) Roller of Piqua, Ohio, Barbara (Darrel) May of Columbus, Ohio, and Evelyn Bridger of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 31 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel in Toler, Kentucky, with the Rev. Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Reynolds Family cemetery in Octavia Hollow, McAndrews.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be anytime on Monday, May 3, at the funeral home with a special service at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel.

Katherine Young
Katherine Ruth "Kathy" Young, 47, of Canada, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.

Born December 20, 1956, in Michigan, to the late Herman Haynes and Anna Louise McPeek Haynes, she was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil Young; and brother, Hershell Haynes.

Surviving are her sons, Denzil Young II of Varney, Kentucky and Cory Young of Canada, Kentucky; daughters, Kathryn Stanley of Canada, Kentucky, Audria May of Canada, Kentucky and Alisha Arce of Lake Placid, Fla.; brother, Terry Dean Haynes of Huddyville, W.Va.; sister, Wilma Sargent of Kellene, Tex.; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 23, 2004, 11 a.m., at Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church, Varney, Kentucky with Billy Williamson, Gary Young, Dale Williamson and Danny Runyon officiating. Burial will follow at Ashcamp cemetery, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Friday and anytime Saturday at Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church, Varney, Kentucky Special services will be held both nights at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

James Adams, 96, of Lookout, Kentucky, died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Franklin County, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13, 2004, 1 p.m., at Justice Funeral Home with Dallas Ramey officiating.

James Dotson
James Lewis Dotson, 70, of Phelps, Kentucky, formerly of Canada, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home at Phelps, Kentucky

Born August 15, 1933, in Woodman, Kentucky, to the late Anthony Wayne Dotson and Lillie Prater Dotson, he was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Dotson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10922, Phelps, Kentucky He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Monette Dotson; son, Ricky Dotson; three sisters, Lula Blankenship, Armeda Lell and Nora Maynard; and one brother, Anthony Wayne Dotson, Jr.

Surviving are his brothers, Jesse L. (Marylou) Dotson of Freeburn, Kentucky, Harmon Dotson of Woodman, Kentucky, Charles (Beatrice) Dotson of Hurley, Va., Eugene (Carolyn) Dotson of Toler, Kentucky, William (Nona) Dotson of Saline, Kan., Junior Clarence Dotson of Oklahoma City, Ok. and Mack Arthur (Billie) Dotson of Stopover, Kentucky; sisters, Polly Prater of Beech Creek, W.Va., Hazel (Jerry) McCoy of Hardy, Kentucky, Laura B. Dotson of Baltimore, Md., Ethel (Jesse) Woods of Ocala, Fla. and Elizabeth (Kenny) Philpott of Stevens, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Kevin, Devin, Eugene, Angelia, Sabrina, Monette and Cody, all of Ohio. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 23, 2004, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Odis Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow at Family cemetery at Canada, Kentucky Belfry DAV Chapter 141 will perform military rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky has assisted the family with arrangements.
