Emma Gean Epling, 63, of Ashcamp, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2004, 2 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Epling Family cemetery, Breaks, Kentucky
Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Tuesday, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Jo Edith Elswick, 67, of Somerset, Kentucky, died on Monday, March 15, 2004.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Somerset First United Methodist Church.

Mollie Kiser, 91, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died on Monday, March 15, 2004.

Ned Bailiff
Ned J. Ratliff, 81, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Pikeville (Kentucky) Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City. Burial will follow in the Elkhorn City cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, March 6, at the funeral home.
Chance McIntosh
Chance I. McIntosh, 2, of Gary, Ind., died on March 3, 2004, at the Methodist Hospital in Gary.
He was born on Jan. 7, 2002, in Munster, Ind., a son of Keith and Teri Taylor McIntosh of Gary.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Talyor.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents, Kathy Weatherford and Halver McIntosh; maternal grandparents, Nancy Taylor and Ron Hakes; five brothers, Keith Jr., John, Brian, Kasper and Jason McIntosh; and one sister, Shiann McIntosh.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, with Mike Smith and other Primitive Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the McIntosh cemetery located at Roadfork, Sidney, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be John and Marc Trader.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, March 6, at the funeral home.
Eugene Dials
Eugene Dials, 54, of Warfield, Kentucky, died on Friday, March 5, 2004, at the Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1949, in Martin County, Kentucky, a son of the late Herbert and Nora Dials.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Dials and Cecil Dials.
He is survived by four brothers, Hebert Dials Jr. of Warfield, Ernest Dials and Elmer Dials, both of Lovely, Kentucky, and Paul Dials of Logan; and six sisters, Eula Stepp and Rebecca Smith, both of Lovely, Bonnie Duncan of Staffordsville, Kentucky, Nora Lee Dials of Tomahawk, Kentucky, Debbie Lloyd of Lecanto, Fla., and Rita Stafford of Inez, Kentucky
Funeral services will be conducted at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield at 1 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2004. Burial will follow in the Davis cemetery in Lovely.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, March 6, at the funeral home.
Alie Allen
Alie Allen, 60, of Ashcamp, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the Bailey Funeral Home with Richard Gibson and Terry Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young cemetery at East Shelbiana, Kentucky
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at the funeral home.
Thomas Syck
Thomas Daniel Syck, 78, of Burning Fork Road, Pikeville, Kentucky, died on Sunday, March 14, 2004, at the Pikeville Healthcare Center.
He was born in Pike County, Kentucky, on Oct. 26, 1925, a son of the late J.R. and Emma Charles Syck. He was a retired carpenter and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Oscar Syck, McKinnly Syck, Earl Bevins, W.R. "Red" Syck, Irland Bevins, Dean Helvey and Emzie Syck; and two sisters, Betty Gullett and Marlin Roop.
Mr. Syck is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sarah Katherine May Syck; five sons, Gary Davis (Judy) Snodgrass of Maysville, Kentucky, Danny Keith (Barbara) Syck of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Robert David (Rubestine) Syck, Oscar Thomas (Jennifer) Syck and Jeffery Dale (Laura) Syck, all of Pikeville; two daughters, Deborah Lynn McCoy and Joyce Ann (J.R.) Taylor, both of Pikeville; two sisters-in-law, Alice Syck of Pikeville and Jeanette Chaney of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church with Hiram Adkins and John Paul Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Charles cemetery at Burning Fork. DAV rites will be performed by the Johns Creek DAV Chapter 166.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Snodgrass, Danny Keith Syck, Robert David Syck, Oscar Thomas Syck, Jeffery Dale Syck and Matthew McCoy. Honorary pallbearers will be James Honaker, Robert Syck, Morgan Chapman, J.R. Taylor, Nathan Syck and Jason Syck.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, March 15, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call and Son Funeral Home in Pikeville.
Freddie Allen II
Freddie Calvin Allen II, 25, of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, died on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1978, in Pike County, Kentucky, the son of Freddie Calvin and Frankie Ann Hinkle Allen Sr. of Turkey Creek. He was employed as a taxi driver for Cimmaron Coach. He was a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katlynn Lashay Allen; and grandparents, Gilbert and Bessie Allen and Robert Hinkle.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Rachel Allen; one son, Timothy Robert Allen of Pikeville, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Christina Maynard of Pikeville; one sister, Sherry Ann Runyon and her husband, Orville, of Delbarton; grandmother, Ona Hinkle of Brushy Creek, Kentucky; and a nephew, Michael Jeffrey Runyon of Delbarton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Hinkle cemetery at Varney, Kentucky;
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, March 15, and Tuesday, March 16, at the funeral home. Special services will begin at 7 p.m. nightly.
Andrew Rose
Andrew Jackson Rose, 55, of McAndrews, Kentucky, died on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
He was born on July 28, 1948, a son of the late Hardy and Gladys Chapman Rose. He was a disabled coal miner. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Heston Rose; and five sisters, Hazel Derossett, Lorraine Justice, Arxie Golley, Helen Rose and Agnes Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Carol Rose, three sons, Randall West of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, and Paul Rose and William Edgar Rose, both of McVeigh, Kentucky; one daughter, Shannon Ball of McVeigh, Kentucky; eight brothers, Paul Derossett and Floyd Rose, both of Canada, Kentucky, William Allen rose, Lonnie Ray Rose and Hardy Franklin Rose, all of Green County, Kentucky, Joseph Edward Rose of Hardyville, Kentucky, Oscar David Rose of Tennessee, and Johnny Rose of Ypsilanti, Mich.; four sisters, Jacklene Henson of Lexington, Kentucky, Geraldine Clevenger of Johns Creek, Kentucky, Betty Ann James of Canada, and Kathy Anderson of Kimper, Kentucky; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, with the Revs. Buddy Kendrick and Franklin Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose cemetery at Brunty Fork, Canada.
Brothers will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Sunday, March 14, and Monday, March 15, at the funeral home. Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.
James Howard Hatfield
James Howard Hatfield, 66, of Belfry, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, in the emergency room at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
As of presstime, funeral arrangements were incomplete and will be announced at a later time by the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Earl Slone
Earl Larue Slone, 70, of Milford, Ohio, formerly of Hardy, Kentucky, died Friday, March 12, 2004, following a lengthy illness.
Earl, known as "Larue" to his family, was born Feb. 27, 1934, as the fourth child and second son to Roland and Mazzie Slone and attended Hardy Grade School and Belfry High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Ezra Slone and Leslie Gordon Slone, and is survived by his youngest brother, Danny (Rebecca) Slone of Lake Charles, La. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lola (Earl) Scott of Belfry, Kentucky, and is survived by two sisters, Edath (John) Hammer of Roanoke, Va., and Charlene (Jack) Weaver of Charleston.
He is also survived by his children Angela and Earl Larue, Jr., both of Ohio and several grandchildren.
Earl was a past employee of Jeffery Mining Industries in Columbus, Ohio, and is an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the mid and late 1950s through the early 1960s as an air controlman seeing service in Germany, Northern Canada, California and several other duty stations. He was a patriot.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky, with Mike Smith officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be Scotty Bell, Todd Young, Jim Scott, Jack R. Weaver and other family and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 2004, beginning at 6 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.
Verna Pinson
Verna Pinson, of Columbus, Ohio, who previously lived in Orlando, Fla. and Coldwater, Kentucky, passed away.
She was the daughter of the late Amos and Clarenda Luster Sloan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of seven years, Howard Garrett, and her husband of 39 years, Willard Pinson. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jenny Prince.
Surviving are her daughter, Anita Leitch (husband Tom Leitch) from Columbus, Ohio; son, Willard Pinson (wife Pam) from Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Angie Winters, Renee Mathews, Brian, Chris, Paul and Amy Leitch, Aaron, Allen and Avery Pinson; and three great grandchildren.

Elbert Smith Jr.
Elbert Smith, Jr., 75, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004, at his residence.
He was born February 12, 1929 in Logan, W. Va., to the late Elbert Smith and Gracie Smith.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 7, 2004, 11 a.m., at Big Elk United Baptist Church with Tim McCoy, Lonnie Preece and Hubert Presley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Spaulding cemetery, Jennies Creek, W. Va.
Visitation will begin Friday at 4 p.m. and continue all day Saturday and until time of service on Sunday at the church.
