Elijah Hall

Elijah Hall, 67, of South Williamson, Kentucky, formerly of Naugatuck, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky He was born January 13, 1937 at Williamson, W. Va.

Mr. Hall was the son of the late Rev. Lewis and Dora Fletcher Hall. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Hall, and a sister, Dorothy Long.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gillman Hall; sons, Elijah Lewis Hall of Huttonsville, W. Va. and Norman D. Hall of Naugatuck, W. Va.; daughters, Loretta Hall of Chattaroy, W. Va., Bonnie (Keith) Cagle of South Williamson, Kentucky, Melissa (Jamie) Willis of Winco Block, W. Va., Dora (Mick) Evans of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Penny (John) Gilman of Oak Grove, W. Va. and Mary Lou Hall of the home; Kathy, Pam, Debbie, Connie and Ava Gail Hall, are also daughters who survive; brothers, Rev. Josh Hall of Ajax, W. Va., John Hall of Rittman, Ohio and Rev. James Hall of Belleview, Ohio; sisters, Mary Ann Sturgill of Tennessee, Anna Sheppard and Billie Hoover of Rittman, Ohio, Sue Urconis and Bonnie Workman of Lenore, W. Va. and Betty Little of Delbarton, W. Va.; two special grandsons that lived with Mr. Hall, Elijah and Willie Hall; 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Ajax Church of Christ Saturday morning, March 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Webb Jr. and Rev. Clyde Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinette cemetery at Road Branch, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the church Friday evening after 6 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton.

Charles T. Lemaster

Charles Thomas Lemaster of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, died Monday, March 22, 2004, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at the Allegheny Freewill Baptist Church, Allegheny, Kentucky

Burial will follow in the Damron cemetery at Allegheny under direction of the Bailey Funeral Home Inc. of Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Visitations will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at the Allegheny Freewill Baptist Church.

Columbus Bowen Jr.

Columbus Bowen Jr., 69, of Route 3, Inez, Kentucky, a retired railroad worker, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in King's Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky

Born May 3, 1934 in Martin County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Columbus and Stella Bowen.

He was a member of the Vineyard United Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel Bowen; five sons, David (Ginny) Bowen of Inez; Darrell (Shirley) Bowen of River, Kentucky, Donald (Tammy) Bowen of Inez, Ricky (Betsy) Bowen of River, and Steve (Lisa) Bowen of Inez; and five daughters, Wilma (Dan) Watkins of Columbus, Ohio, Sue (Connard) Horn of Inez, Juanita (Arthur) Maynard of Inez, Jennifer (Phillip) Vanhoose of Staffordsville, Kentucky, and LaDonna (Ronnie) Ball of Inez.

Other survivors include the following brothers and sisters: Tony Bowen of Stambaugh, Kentucky, Paul Bowen of Inez, Doug Bowen of Inez, Arnold Bowen of Columbus, Ohio, Opal Johnson of Inez and Louise Johnson of Inez.

Visitations were to begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Vineyard United Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the Vineyard United Baptist Church. Officiating ministers will be Doc Maynard, Brimley Marcum and Sterling Marcum.

Burial will follow in the Bowen Family cemetery under direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home of Inez, Kentucky

Nora Johnson

Nora B. Johnson, 95, of Lick Creek, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Mt. View Health Care of Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004, 11 a.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Big Hackney's Creek cemetery, Mouthcard, Kentucky

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

William Maynard

William Maynard, 54, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at King's Daughters Medical Center.

He was born October 21, 1949, in Martin County, Kentucky, to the late Jesse Maynard and Gracie Maynard.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004, 11 a.m., at Pack Bottom United Baptist Church with Maurice Mills and Lonnie Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow at Maynard cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Thursday and all day Friday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky

Laura Mounts Norman
Laura Mounts Norman, 63, of Freeburn, Kentucky, passed away Friday, March 12, 2004, at her residence.

She was born on December 29, 1940, Freeburn, the daughter of the late Howard and Kansada Mounts and Carrie Chapman of Freeburn.

She was preceded by her husband, Willis Gene Norman; a brother, Howard Gearles and a sister, Lavonne Gearles.

She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Myra (Dallas) Lee and Kansada (Chuck) Eldridge, both of Freeburn; three sons, Timmy Norman of Lexington, Kentucky; Dwight Norman of Freeburn and Michael Norman Robinette of Varney, W.Va.; five sisters, Lisa Fields of Delbarton; Lillian Wolford of Louisa, Kentucky; Linda Kay Sanders of Lexington; Alice Eldridge of Sevierville, Tenn. and Leona DeVane of Matewan and four grandchildren: Miragail Edridge, Sara Renee Norman, Ericka Robinette and Ariel Robinette.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Barrenshea Church of God with Rev. Bobby Dale Wolford officiating.

Burial will follow in the Norman Family cemetery at Freeburn.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the church with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

William Wayne Blanton
William Wayne Blaton, 84, of Belfry, Kentucky, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at his residence.

He was born on May 19, 1919, at Paintsville, Kentucky, the son of the late Jack and Cella Jenkins Blanton.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie Dawson Blaton; one brother; and one sister.

He was retired from Ohio Malleable and was of the Baptist faith.

He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Kathern Maynard Blanton; one son, Rick Wayne Blanton of Powell, Ohio; three daughters, Patricia Hensley of Columbus, Ohio, Judy Shea of Columbus, Ohio, and Sharon Varney of Lovely, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Brother Ray Taylor and Brother John Taylor officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher. Military rites will be conducted by the DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, Kentucky

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home with special services set for 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Freddie Calvin Allen II
Freddie Calvin Allen II, 25, of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Earl Larue Slone
Earl Larue Slone, 70, of Milford, Ohio, formerly of Hardy, Kentucky, died Friday, March 12, 2004, following a lengthy illness.

Earl, known as "Larue" to his family, was born Feb. 27, 1934, as the fourth child and second son to Roland and Mazzie Slone and attended Hardy Grade School and Belfry High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Ezra Slone and Leslie Gordon Slone, and is survived by his youngest brother, Danny (Rebecca) Slone of Lake Charles, La. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lola (Earl) Scott of Belfry, Kentucky, and is survived by two sisters, Edath (John) Hammer of Roanoke, Va., and Charlene (Jack) Weaver of Charleston.

He is also survived by his wife, Rebecca Slone and his children Angela and Earl Larue, Jr., both of Ohio and several grandchildren.

Earl was a past employee of Jeffery Mining Industries in Columbus, Ohio, and is an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the mid and late 1950s through the early 1960s as an air controlman seeing service in Germany, Northern Canada, California and several other duty stations. He was a patriot.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky, with Mike Smith officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Scotty Bell, Todd Young, Jim Scott, Jack R. Weaver and other family and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 2004, beginning at 6 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Nannette Davis
Nannette Davis, age 54, of McCarr, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2004 following a long illness.

She was born on December 7, 1949 at Vulcan, W. Va., the daughter of Bradley Coleman of Williamson, W. Va., and the late Nellie Hurley Coleman.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ola Crick. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.

She is survived by daughters, Theresa Hager and Lynn (Terry) Brizendine both of Phelps, Kentucky, Donetta (Jamie) Harrison and Samantha Davis both of McCarr, Kentucky; sons, Patrick Campbell of Varney, W. Va., Matthew Davis and Bradley Keith (Tamara) May both of McCarr, Kentucky; brothers, Harold Coleman of Red Jacket, W. Va. and George T. Coleman of Michigan; sisters, Ann Harris of Vulcan, W. Va., Lillian Norman of McCarr, Kentucky, Dora Blackburn of South Williamson, Kentucky, Betty Coleman of Chattaroy, W. Va. and Lorraine Cervantes of California; grandchildren, Natasha Hurley, Tiffany Hager, Cierra, Chris and Jeremy Harrison and Amber Brizendine; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 15, 2004, 1 p.m., at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Daugherty Family cemetery at Jamboree, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Saturday at the chapel with services at 7 p.m. conducted by the Majestic church of Christ. Services on Sunday at 7 p.m. will be conducted by the Ajax Church of Lord Jesus Christ of Lenore, W. Va.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Nola Pauline Webb Carter
Nola Pauline Webb Carter, 92, of Phyllis, Kentucky, died Friday, March 12, 2004.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Mt. View Church of Christ, Mouthcard, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004 at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Robert Brown Jr.

Robert Brown Jr., 77, of Florida, formerly of Dix Fork, Sidney, Kentucky, died on March 3, 2004, in the Southwest Regional Hospital in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was a son of the late Robert L. and Emma Hunt Brown. He was a career military man with 26 years of service in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He received many awards including the Purple Heart during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Maynard Brown.

He is survived by one son, Paul Brown of Beckley, W.Va.; one brother, James E. Brown of Forest Hills, Kentucky; two nephews, Robert and Frank Brown; and one grandchild, Savannah Brown of Bluefield, W.Va.

Funeral services were March 6, 2004 at the Coral Ridge Funeral Home in Cape Coral, Fla. Interment was also in Cape Coral.

Arrangements directed by the Hatfield Funeral Home in Toler, Kentucky

Ralph Justice, 64, of Harold, Kentucky, died on Friday, March 19, 2004, at his residence on Toler Creek.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, at the Upper Toler Church of Christ at Upper Toler Creek, Harold. Burial will follow in the Stevens cemetery in Harold.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Justice Funeral Home in Pikeville, Kentucky

Mark Whitaker

Mark Whitaker, 41, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the Miami Valley Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m.. Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at the Slone Ceme-tery on Dog Fork, Pikeville.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home.
