Nell Baisden

Nell Hammond Baisden, 76, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of Hardy, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on her late husband's birthday, Sunday, March 21, 2004.

She was born on May 28, 1927, in Red Jacket, the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Williams Hammond. She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Baisden; daughter, Betty (King) Baisden; four brothers, Tom, Glenn, Fred and Wallace Hammond; and one grandson, David Michael Baisden.

Mrs. Baisden is survived by three sons, Leonard Baisden of Martin County, Kentucky, Donnie (Sue) Baisden, and Harrison (Kathryn) Baisden both of Borderland; four daughters, Patricia (Jackie) Marcum, Mattie (Larry) Durham, and Helen (Dwayne) Pinion, all of Hardy, and Monetta (Allan) Blankenship of Newark; three brothers, Frank Hammond of Williamson, Dan Hammond of Hell Creek and John Hammond of Varney; 24 grandchildren; and 22 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at the Philadelphia United Baptist Church at Maher with Pastor Harrison Baisden and Homer Mayhew officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky

Grandsons will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Kimble, Alan Blankenship, Jackie Marcum, Larry Durham, Dwayne Pinion and Tom King

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, with special services at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be moved to the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

Viola Ball Sparks
Viola Ball Sparks, 75, of Carlisle, Kentucky, widow of Charles D. Sparks, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at her home.

She was born in Pike County to the late Joe Thomas and Suzanne Stanley Ball, was a retired cafeteria manager at Nicholas County High School and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her two sons, Col. Dr. Joe D. (Brooke) Sparks of O'Fallon, Ill. and Bill (Debbie) Sparks of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; four daughters, Joyce (Dr. Gary) Hopkins of Forest Hills, Kentucky; Jan Sparks of Carlisle, Kentucky, Pricy (David) Darrell of Car-lisle, Kentucky and Melissa (Geoff) Hammons of Carlisle, Kentucky; a brother, Charles Edward (Mary Louise) Ball of Cynthiana, Kentucky; two sisters, Pricie Pinson of Toler, Kentucky and Nancy Lee Edwards of McAndrews, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Gina Brien, Carla R. Hopkins, Dave A. Hopkins, Alison L, Darrell, Megan A. Darrell and Garrick W. Hammons; and a great granddaughter, Ashton Brien.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Bob Norman and Rev. Ernie Carmicle. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Paris, Kentucky

Casketbearers will be Greg Reid, Allen Dale, David and Dean Sparks, Ricky Hicks and John Johnson.

Honnorarybearers will be Nell Gaffin, Jeanette Gudgell, Gerald Hammons, Rob Lane, Becky Riggs, Martha Sue Taylor and Nancy Watts.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Blue Grass Cynthiana Chapter or Relay for Life, Nicholas County Chapter.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Sunday at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home.

Louis Caston

Louis Caston, 81, of South Williamson, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

He was born Feb. 3, 1923, a son of the late Ross and Rose Pasquale Caston.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth McKnight Caston; a brother, Frank Caston and a sister, Louise Vipperman.

He was a United States Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Santa Fe during World War II. Louis was previously employed with Westinghouse Electric Company, in Baltimore, Maryland. He had also been employed with Mingo Lime and Lumber Company in Williamson prior to starting his own general contracting company. He built many Williamson area homes. Louis was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Dan) Kellogg of Solon, Ohio and Leah (James) Marcum of South Williamson, Kentucky; one brother, Jimmy Caston of Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren, Lauren Caston, Brad and Mike Kellogg and three step-grandchildren, Ashley, Jamee and Brandon Marcum.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson with Revs. Fred Dillon, Roger Tinnel Mickey Carver and Mike Kohari officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Quillin, Charles Varney, Danny Stacey, James Marcum, Dan Kellogg, Don Staker, Ed Caldwell and Linwood Starling.

Military rites will be conducted by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 141 of Belfry, Kentucky

Visitation will be from 6 ­ 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Weaver Mortuary.

Arrangements are under direction of Weaver Mortuary.

William Wayne Blanton
William Wayne Blanton, 84, of Belfry, Kentucky, passed away Friday, March 12, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the Hatfield Funeral Home.

Hester Smith
Hester Smith, 86, of McAndrews, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born December 6, 1917, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Williams Anderson Smith and Angeline May Smith, she was a homemaker and a member of Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Freelin Smith Sr.; two sons, Donald Gene Smith, Franklin Ronald Smith; sisters, Cena Justice, Sarah Stiltner, Alice Adkins; brothers, L.D., Lon, Sidney, Don and Monroe Smith.

Surviving are her sons, Freeland (Evelyn) Smith Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio and Cecil (Brenda) Smith of McAndrews, Kentucky; daughter, Linda (Terry Paul) May of McAndrews, Kentucky; sister, Hattie Smith of Vinton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Gary Mitchell Smith, Don Ellis Smith, Sherry Renae Holbrook, Chris Smith, Anita Dawn Popplewell, Melinda Grilliot, Michael Smith, Frankie Smith, Mark Smith, Scotty Smith and Dustin Smith, Steve May, Angie May and Terry May Jr; and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 14, 2004, 2 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick and Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday with special services both nights.

Thelma Naomi Maynard
Thelma Naomi Maynard, 82, of Canada, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004, at her residence.

Born February 19, 1922, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Ireland Stepp and Ann Kennedy Stepp, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Maynard was a member of Bells of Joy United Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Tunis Edward Maynard. He died March 12, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ervin Stepp, Mont Stepp, Charles Stepp and Jonah Stepp.

Surviving are her two sons, Lewis Maynard of Hatfield, Kentucky and Mickey Maynard of Gallipolis, Ohio; two daughters, Marlene Kendrick of McAndrews, Kentucky and Kathy Chafin of Canada, Kentucky; three brothers, Rudolph Stepp of Sidney, Kentucky, David "Dee" Stepp of Varney, Kentucky and Oscar Stepp of Hatfield, Kentucky; two sisters, Ethel Mae Reed of Lexington, Kentucky and Doris Green of Canada, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 14, 2004, 11 a.m., at Bells of Joy United Baptist Church with Buddy Kendrick, William Akers and Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Stepp cemetery, Hatfield Kentucky.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Steven Maynard, Marc and Matthew Kendrick, Eric and Nathan Coleman and Harry Catron.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel and anytime Saturday with special services at 7 p.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HOPE of Belfry or to the Bells of Joy United Baptist Church and at Thelma's request to be used to feed hungry children or someone in need and the Lord will bless them for it.

Susie Endicott

Susie Webb Endicott, 92, of Louisa, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Three Rivers Medical Center.

Born February 12, 1911, in Martin Co., Kentucky, to the late Willie Webb and Julie Hammond, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Endicott was a member of New Friendship Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Endicott; sons, Otto Endicott and Arnold Endicott; daughter, Juanetta Endicott; brothers, Frank Webb and Joe Webb; and sisters, Tillie Collier and Elizabeth Stepp.

Surviving are her sons, Clifford Endicott of Louisa, Kentucky, James Harold Endicott of Tennessee, Luther Wilburn Endicott of Sevierville, Ohio, Ralph Endicott of Louisa, Kentucky, Howard Endicott of Marion, Ohio and Billy Ray Endicott of Marion, Ohio; daughters, Irene Johnson of Inez, Kentucky, Tillie Roush of Inez, Kentucky, Julie Maynard of Marion, Ohio, Joann Layne of Marion, Ohio, Evelean McCoy of Columbus, Ohio, Helen Hinkle of Inez, Kentucky, Marie Fitch of Marion, Ohio, Monett Horn of Inez, Kentucky and Bessie Harrah of Marion, Ohio; brothers, McClellen Webb of Oak Hill, W. Va., Claude Webb of Kenova, W. Va., and Willie Webb Jr. of Louisa, Kentucky; and sisters, Alma Sizemore of Columbus, Ohio, Annie Vandy of Kenova, W. Va. and Bessie Clark of Kenova, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 5, 2004, 2 p.m., at New Friendship United Baptist Church with Rev. John Goble officiating. Burial will follow at Pack cemetery, Inez, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home at Inez, Kentucky

Nannette Davis
Nannette Davis, age 54, of McCarr, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2004 following a long illness.

She was born on December 7, 1949 at Vulcan, W. Va., the daughter of Bradley Coleman of Williamson, W. Va., and the late Nellie Hurley Coleman.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ola Crick. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.

She is survived by daughters, Theresa Hager and Lynn (Terry) Brizendine both of Phelps, Kentucky, Donetta (Jamie) Harrison and Samantha Davis both of McCarr, Kentucky; sons, Patrick Campbell of Varney, W. Va., Matthew Davis and Bradley Keith (Tamara) May both of McCarr, Kentucky; brothers, Harold Coleman of Red Jacket, W. Va. and George T. Coleman of Michigan; sisters, Ann Harris of Vulcan, W. Va., Lillian Norman of McCarr, Kentucky, Dora Blackburn of South Williamson, Kentucky, Betty Coleman of Chattaroy, W. Va. and Lorraine Cervantes of California; grandchildren, Natasha Hurley, Tiffany Hager, Cierra, Chris and Jeremy Harrison and Amber Brizendine; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 15, 2004, 1 p.m., at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Daugherty Family cemetery at Jamboree, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Saturday at the chapel with services at 7 p.m. conducted by the Majestic church of Christ. Services on Sunday at 7 p.m. will be conducted by the Ajax Church of Lord Jesus Christ of Lenore, W. Va.

Louis Caston

Linda Lou Mullins

Linda Lou Mullins, 57, of McVeigh, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 29, 2004, at her residence.

Born November 11, 1946, in Mingo County, W. Va., to Margie Gilman Thompson of McVeigh, Kentucky and the late Andy Thompson, she previously worked at Jimmy's Shoe Store, Williamson, W. Va. and Maloney's Department Store and K-Mart at Goody, Kentucky She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Freddie Thompson.

Surviving are her husband, Donnie Mullins of McVeigh, Kentucky; son, Rod Mullins of Huddy, Kentucky; brother, Junior Thompson of Orrville, Ohio; sisters, Mable Webb of Farmington, Mich., Bonnie Williams of Wooster, Ohio, Ethel Fowler of Wooster, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2004, 11 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Roger Mullins, Buddy Kendrick and Orbie Justice officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Scotty Ball

Scotty K. Ball, 42, of Aflex, Kentucky, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at his residence.

Born July 24, 1961, he was a son of Buddy Ball of Sevierville, Tenn., and the late Alice Leedy Ball.

He was disabled and attended the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church.

Scotty is survived by his companion, Brenda Allen of Aflex; one daughter, Amanda Ball; three brothers, Jerry (Debra) Ball of Conyers, Ga.; Robert (Debbie) Ball of Marysville, Tenn. and Jeff Ball of Portsmouth, Ohio; three sisters, Polly (Lonnie) Francis of Williamson; Pat (Tony) Coburn of Minford, Ohio and Sue Akers of McCarr, Kentucky, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky, with Brother Lee Dotson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Family members and members of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, March 22 and Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the funeral home with special services Monday at 7 p.m. with Bro. Lonnie Francis and 7 p.m. Tuesday with Bro. Donnie Williamson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.
