Verneda Crum, 60, of Union City, Ohio, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Bowen November 14, 1943, to the late Arnold Goble and Alma Delong Goble, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Crum was of the Southern Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Mitchell Crum of Union City, Ohio; daughters, Lorena Bowman of Clarksville, Tenn. Virginia Schellhaas of Arcanium, Ohio and Tammy Morgan of Arcanium, Ohio; brothers, Columbus Goble of Buffalo, N. Y. and Beulah Goble of Troy, Ohio; sister, Margaret Bowen of Tomahawk, Ohio; and grandchildren, Kenneth M. Bowman, Kristin Bowen, Cody M. Schellhaas, Sabarina Nichole Hardick.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2003, 1 p.m., at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky, with burial following at the Goble cemetery.

Birdie Hensley
Birdie Hensley, 76, of Runyon Branch Road, Pinsonfork, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 17, 2003, at her residence.

Born July 28, 1927, in McVeigh, Kentucky, to the late Roland Stiltner and Victoria Louise Little Stiltner, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hensley was a member of Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Collins and Gertrude Wolford; and two brothers, Fred Stiltner and Virgil Stiltner.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Hensley of Pinsonfork, Kentucky; two sons, Robert Clinton Hensley of Pinsonfork, Kentucky and Rickey Hensley of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three daughters, Shirley Ann Grizzel of Baltimore, Md., Wanda Gail Gallimore of Pinsonfork, Kentucky and Tilda Kay Grizzel of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Walter Stiltner of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; two sisters, Florence May Smith of Pinsonfork, Kentucky and Froncie Sykes of Abingdon, Va.; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one step grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2003, 10 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Her family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

John E. Fitch
John E. Fitch, 59, Inez, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Hillside at Spence Branch.

He was born May 4, 1944, in Martin County, to Garfield and Ninety Fitch.

Surviving are his wife, Neva Jean (Hickmsn) Fitch; daughters, Norma Jane Fitch of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Christina Goble of Tomahawk, Kentucky, Mary Ellen Damron of Inez, Kentucky and Rachel Jude of Warfield, Ky; brothers, Paul Fitch of Inez, Kentucky, Forest Fitch of Inez, Kentucky; sisters, Elsie Fannin of Tomahawk, Kentucky, Elva Himbrey of Tomahawk, Kentucky and Ruth McGuire of Tomahawk, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28, 2003, 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Paul Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson and Maynard cemetery at Cassell Branch.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Nov. 26, 2003 at 4 p.m. and Nov. 27, 2003 at 4 p.m.

Mary V. Elswick
Mary V. Elswick, 79, of Ratliff's Creek Road, Pikeville, Kentucky, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

She was born Nov. 23, 1923, at Kentenia, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha Burger Vass.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Vass and Rudolph Vass and six sisters, Virginia Rengers, Margaret Bailey, Emma "Bobbie" Holbrook, Etta "Kiki" Vass, Viola Farley and Lillian Vass.

She worked in the clerical field, having been employed by Persinger Supply, Bill Blackburn, CPA and Dr. E.R. Thompson. Mary was a member of the Stone (Kentucky) United Methodist Church where she was active in the Stone United Methodist Church Women's Group, a Sunday school teacher and a soloist for weddings, funerals and church services.

Mary is survived by her husband, Charles R. Elswick; a son, Rudolph Vass Jr., of Forest Hills, Kentucky; a daughter, Kiki Bentley of Stone, Kentucky; a brother, Allen Vass of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister, Gloria Runyon of Ashland, Kentucky; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at the Pikeville United Methodist Church with Quentin Scholtz and Tim Swanston officiating. Burial will follow in the Bent Ridge cemetery, Meta, Kentucky

Active pallbearers will be Walt Holbrook, Wally Farley, Fred Farley, Jim Tom King, Jonathan Hiers, Eddie Clark, Paul Ford, David Chaffin, Eddie Venters, Frank Nall and Jerry Vass.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at J.W. Call Funeral Home, Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Pike County.

Roy E. Williamson
Roy E. Williamson, 78, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born March 28, 1925, in Pike County, Kentucky, a son of the late Issac (Ike) Williamson and Virginia (Greer) Williamson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edith Reed Williamson; brother Oliver Glen Williamson and his first wife, Loraine Sprinkle Williamson.

He was a member of the Belfry First Baptist Church. Mr. Williamson was retired from Norfolk-Southern Rail-road and served in the Navy aboard the USS Blackwood.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Henson Brown Williamson of Forest Hills; stepdaughter, Pam (Larry) Williamson of Belfry, Kentucky; step-granddaughter, Kim (Steve) Bostic of Stone, Kentucky; two step great great-grandsons, Cody and Wesley Bostic; a brother, Kelly (Genevive) Williamson of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Estalene Williamson of Stone and a host of loving friends.

George Walker Dotson Jr.
George Walker (G.W.) Dotson, Jr., 53, of Ransom, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at Skilled Nursing Facility - ARH, after a lingering illness.

Born June 18, 1950, in Ransom, Kentucky, to the late George Walker Dotson and Anna Garland Dotson, he was a disabled coal miner. Mr. Dotson worked for Dotson Coal Company and Eastern Coal before becoming a co-owner of Calf Branch Coal #1 and #2 mines and Dotco Energy. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Mr. Dotson was a 1968 graduate of Belfry High School and had attended Sue Bennett College and Eastern Kentucky University. G. W. was a loving husband and father and a lifelong resident of the Blackberry area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Donald Dotson; and sister, Susie Ann Mendell.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Scott Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky; daughters, Michele (Chris) Justice of Ransom, Kentucky, Angela (Michael) Simpkins of Ransom, Kentucky and Christy (Bryan) Fields of Morehead, Kentucky; brothers, Charles A. (Joann) Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky, Ray (Lois) Dotson of McCarr, Kentucky, Clyde (Margaret) Dotson of Hardy, Kentucky and Claude (Brenda) Dotson of Forest Hills, Kentucky; sisters, Lois Jean Dotson of McCarr, Kentucky, Edna Fern (Joe) Taylor of Lexington, Kentucky and Brenda (Fred) Alley of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Brooke and Christen Justice, Jonathan Elkins and Makayla Simpkins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2003, 1 p.m., at Toler Freewill Baptist church with Bro. Johnny Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Dotson cemetery at Ransom, Kentucky His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.

He will be sadly missed and in our memories forever.

Lonnie Rowe
Lonnie Rowe, 82, of Belfry, Kentucky, died on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Skilled Nursing Facility of Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

He was born on June 1, 1921, at Pinsonfork, Kentucky, a son of the later Lonnie Rowe and Ida May Rowe Chapman. He was a retired shipping foreman for Jim Robbins Corporation, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his stepfather Tildon Chapman, three brothers, Ernest, Hassel and Hansel Chapman; and three stepbrothers, Rush, Howard and Virgil Chapman.

Mr. Rowe is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Edmiston Rowe of Belfry; one son, Jim Rowe of Belfry; two daughters, Polly (Jerry) Hager of Belfry, and Ida (Stephen) Nogosky of Destin, Fla.; three sisters, Maxine Stratton and Imogine Geralds, both of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Beatrice Tucker of Bardstown, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jimmy and A.J. Rowe, Jaimey, Adam and Boo Hager and Nicole Nogosky; and four great-grandchildren, Alayna and Alyvia Rowe and Austin and Allison Hager.

Funeral arrangements will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry with the Rev. Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky, with DAV rites conduct by the Belfry Chapter 141.

Visitation will be Sunday and Monday after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Vardie Fields
Vardie Fields of Inez, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 7, 2003.

He was a retired security guard and a member of Antioch Church.

Vardie was the son of the late James A. and Cora (Beverly) Fields.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny (BoBo) Fields; one granddaughter, Christie Fields; two brothers, Clyde Fields and Charles Fields and one sister, Opal Hale.

Vardie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nellie Fields; four daughters, Jean Griffin of Fuguay Varina, N.C., Ann Collier, Janice Elrod, and Betty Jo Piatt, all of Scioto County, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Palmer Fields and Earl Fields and two sisters, Christina Jude and Alice Archibald.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home of Inez, Kentucky

Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5-9 p.m..

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003. Burial will follow in the Fields cemetery on Caney.

Cheryl 'Kathy' Daniels
Cheryl "Kathy" Daniels, age 45, of Freeburn, Kentucky, beloved wife, mother and sister has departed this earth to join her parents, McDonald and Vivian Keene Norman, and brother, David "Bear" Norman in Heaven. She passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at her home.

She was born on June 20, 1958 in Williamson, W. Va.

Kathy was a retired bus driver for the Pike County Board of Education for the children of Phelps High School and Phelps Elementary. She was a member of the Majestic Church of Christ.

She is survived by her loving husband, Eric "Little Man" Daniels of the home; devoted son, Joshua of the home; and devoted daughter, Rebecca of the home; step-daughter, Erica and step-son Ricky. She is also survived by brother, Macky (Kathy) Norman of Freeburn; sisters, Eileen (Jerry) Fletcher of Georgetown, Kentucky and Madonna (Donald) Lowe of Pikeville, Kentucky; six nephews, Mack (Vanessa) Norman of Winchester, Kentucky, Matthew Fletcher of Los Angeles, Ca., Doug (Kassandra) Norman of Freeburn, Max (Kristi) Fletcher of Georgetown, Kentucky, Courtney and Derrick Norman of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and niece, Latisha Norman of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2003, 1 p.m., at the R. S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky, with Bro. Roger Shepherd officiating. The chapel will open at 12 noon.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky Pallbearers are Neil Lambert, Hillard Mounts, Marty Wagner, Ronnie Skeens, Bill Blankenship and Allen Gibson. Honorary pallbearer is Bert Hatfield.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Thursday at the chapel. Services will be held at 7 p.m. with Bro. Tennis Daniels officiating. On Friday, at 7 p.m., prayer by Rev. Franklin Mounts and eulogies will be given by friends.

Roy E. Williamson, 78, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2003, at ARH Skilled Nursing Facility.

Honorary pallbearers are Norfolk and Southern Retirees.

Visitation will be held Friday night from 7 - 9 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home.

T. J. Howell
T.J. Howell, 65, of Lovely, Kentucky, died at Little Peter Cave in Pilgrim on Nov. 14, 2003.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1937, at Three Forks, Kentucky, a son of the late Lacy and Joanna Taylor Howell. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Union United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Lester Howell; one daughter, Marilyn Sue Howell; three brothers, Garland Howell, Lacy Howell Jr., Ezra Howell; and one sister, Virgie Jude.

Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Jewell Maurine Howell; three sons, Larry Howell and Dewight Howell, both of Lovely, and Kevin Howell of Fallsburg, Kentucky; four daughters, Sandra Gail Justice of Crum, W.Va., Kathy Stacy and Denise Marcum, both of Lovely, and Beverly Grace of Kermit.; and two brothers, Freddie Hall of Beauty, Kentucky, and Milford Howell of Justice.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at the Union United Baptist Church with Woodrow Nichols, Terry Howell and Eddie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Fallsburg.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, at the church.
