Mitcelene Lanham

Mitchelene Kelly Lanham of Palmetto, FL. and Louisville, KY. died peacefully February 26, 2012 at the Episcopal Church Home; Louisville with family and friends at her side. She was born November 23, 1942 in Greensburg, KY. to Herman and Irene Lile Kelly. She married Peter B. Lanham December 4, 1976 in Greensburg Presbyterian Church and they renewed their marriage vows February 4, 2012 in St. Luke’s Chapel of The Episcopal Church Home. Mitch was a member of the Louisville Mastectomy Association, volunteer coordinator for “Reach to Recovery”, volunteer “Road to Recovery” driver, and a nursery volunteer at Southeastern the Southeastern Guide Dog School in Pametto. She was a member and past president of the Owl Creek Garden Club a member of St. James Episcopal Church; Pewee Valley, KY.

Mitch is survived by her husband, nieces Sherry Knotts (Clay); Floyds Knobs, IN., Dr. Kimberly Kelly; Denton, TX., Shannon Kelly; NYC, Dr. Ruth Roberts (Renata); Charleston, SC., nephews, Dennis Guthery, David Guthery (Jamie); Wooster, OH., and lifelong friends, Alicia Taylor (David), Allison Griffiths (Tom); Greensburg.

Mitch was predeceased by a brother, Rex Kelly; Greensburg, and a sister, Betty Guthery; Wooster.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM EDT Thursday March 1, 2012, Pearson’s 149 Breckenridge Lane; Louisville, and Friday 4-7 PM CST at Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg, KY. Private burial will be Saturday March 3 in Greensburg, KY. cemetery with a memorial service at 10 AM in the Greensburg Presbyterian Church.

Lucy Harman

HARMAN, LUCY YOUNG MOORE, died Monday, February 27, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Lucy was the daughter of William I. Moore and Lucile Carr Young Moore. She was born in Louisville on September 8, 1928 and attended J. M. Atherton High School for Girls, Mary Washington College in Virginia and graduated from Purdue University in 1951, where she began her lifelong association with Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Lucy contributed much to Louisville's early childhood education community and mentored many teachers throughout her life. Her association with Highland Presbyterian Weekday School began in 1952, where she taught three-year-olds, kindergarten and eventually served as a codirector for many years.

Lucy was the Early Childhood Expert at The Heuser Hearing and Language Academy, formerly The Louisville Deaf Oral School. She joined their staff in the 1970s, to develop a program appropriate for the early childhood years. In the late 1980s she began her association with The Chance School, teaching 4 year-olds. She introduced Peter Bergson of Open Connections to the Louisville education community. They developed a new approach to physical play for Chance's Fun Room, building a modular system that remains in use.

Lucy served on the Second Presbyterian Weekday School Board where she was instrumental in developing their strategic plan. Among her many affiliations, she was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, The Louisville Boat Club, The Pendennis Club, and a member of The Louisville Orchestra Board.

Lucy is survived by her three daughters and their families, Susan, Donald and Wick Hill, of Concord, MA, Rowland Hill of Nashville, TN, Sarah, John, Cullen and Will Hunter, of Anchorage, KY, Megan Reigle, of Boston, Ann, Bill, Sarah and Elizabeth Jessee of Anchorage; Fernando and Lu Jessee Valdizan, of Louisville, her brother and his wife, Kathy and Dr. J. Thomas Moore II of Marietta, GA.

The family would especially like to thank Betty and David Jones for introducing Mother to Michael E. Weinblatt, M.D., of Brigham and Women's Hospital. The resulting professional and personal relationship greatly enhanced all aspects of Mother's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions be made to "Brigham and Women's Hospital - Michael Weinblatt M.D. Research Fund" and mailed to the Development Office, Brigham and Women's Hospital, 75 Francis St., Boston, MA. 02115.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. March 7, 2012 at 1400 Willow. A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on March 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. Pearson's has been entrusted with arrangements.

Arthur C. McCarty III

McCARTY, ARTHUR CLAYTON III, 51, of Louisville, KY, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

Clay was a contractor in Louisville, served in the U.S. Army, and cherished time with his family especially his two children.

Clay is survived by his wife Ellen Gill; son, Spencer Clayton; daughter, Kathryn Nolan; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Clayton McCarty Jr.; his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Gill Sr.; sisters, Cynthia McCarty (Sandy), Claire Simpson (Mark) and Margaret Hare (David); brother-in-law, Terry Gill Jr. (Liz); nieces, Tarah (Colby), Vandiver, Madison, Callie, Sarah, Hannah, Rebekah; and nephews, Terry III and William.

Memorial service is Saturday, 11:30 a.m. Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road. Visitation and reception with family immediately following service in fellowship hall. Pearson's is entrusted with arrangements.

Ashley Nicole King

KING, ASHLEY NICOLE, 32, of Louisville passed away February 23, 2012 in Slidell, LA.

She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and received an associate degree in hotel hospitality in Orlando, FL.

Among those family members who preceded her in death are great-grandparents, Alberta and Bob Oldson, and grandmother, Mary Edzell.

She is survived by her parents, Terry Hall and Joseph King (Baby Amato); Slidell, LA., sister, Brittany Knoth (Nick), brother David Hall Jr., nephews, Cohl Knoth, niece, Piper Knoth, grandparents, Forrest and Betty Kaelin, other aunts, uncles, and cousins in Louisiana and her fur child, London.

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Friday, Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday until time of service. Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Ernst O. Northcutt Jr.

Ernest O. Northcutt, 83, died Wednesday March 1, 2012. He was a retired chemical engineer and vice president of International Sales for United Catalysts. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and a US Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. Member, Sunday school teacher, and Elder Emeritus of Beargrass Christian Church for over 50 years, Louisville Genological Society, Sons of American Revolution. Member and former volunteer for Filson Historical Society.

Survived by his wife of 60 years Ann Sargent Northcutt, daughters, Terry Northcutt (Arthur Noonan); Pittsburgh, PA.and Leeann Stiles (Mack); Dubai, UAE Sister, Patsie Potts; Dallas, TX., Brother, Terry C. Northcutt (Janet); Dallas, TX., grandchildren, Ben Thomas, Ellen Buettner (Jay), Kathryn Thomas, Tristan Stiles, David Stiles, Isaac Stiles, and a great grandson.

Funeral service 11 AM Monday, Beargrass Christian Church 4100 Shelbyville Road with burial to follow in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation 2-5 PM Sunday, Pearson’s 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Jacqueline Mollman

83, of Louisville passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at The Episcopal Church Home. She was born on December 18, 1928 to Ross and Wilma Laney in Pittsburg, Kansas, and graduated from Canton High School, Canton, Illinois. She met her husband of 62 years, Edward Mollman, at the University of Illinois, and together they raised five daughters. Over the years, the family lived in Wood River, Illinois; Orono, Maine; Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Bethesda, Maryland and Sun City Center, Florida. Jackie made lifelong friends each place she lived. The couple moved to Louisville in 2009 to be closer to family.

Jackie was known for her creativity, sense of humor and a love of reading, all of which she passed to her daughters and grandchildren. She was seldom without a book. While living in Washington, Jackie also volunteered at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Library and the Bethesda Public Library. Jackie, Ed and their children shared a keen enjoyment of travel. Their adventures included numerous independent trips to the UK, Europe and Canada as well as travel through most of the United States.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Wilma Laney and her brother, Norman Laney. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward Mollman, daughters Meredith Parente, Carol Mollman, Jennifer Mollman, Katherine Waters, Elizabeth Behringer (Mark), and grandchildren Jeffrey Waters, Alexandra Waters, and Claire Behringer.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Sunrise Senior Living, and most recently, Jefferson Manor and The Episcopal Church Home for their wonderful care.

Memorial service 12:00 p.m. March 10, 2012 at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane, visitation 10:00 a.m. intil time of service.

Lucy Owen

Lucy McMakin Owen, 71, passed away Sunday February 26, 2012 surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 16, 1941. She attended Stephens College and the University of Kentucky. Lucy was a member of the Woman’ Club of Louisville and Second Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, taking care of her rose garden, playing with her bridge group, dining out with the “the girls” and spending time with her grandchildren.

preceded in death by her husband Gene Paul Owen Sr. Lucy is survived by her children, Gene Paul Owen Jr. (Jane Ann), Morry Lee Owen (Tasha) and Virginia Owen Foshee (Rob); and eight precious grandchildren, Sam, Brooks, Lucy Owen, Morry David and Anna Owen and Caroline, Graham and Olivia Foshee.

The family would especially like to thank Margie Hancock for her devoted service, Dr. Charles Hornaday and the dedicated staff at Baptist Hospital East. You will live in our hearts forever and will be truly missed, Gammy.

Funeral service will be noon Thursday, Second Presbyterian Church 3701 Old Brownsboro Road. Private burial Grove Hill cemetery; Shelbyville.

Visitation is 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Dr. Theodore Norton Lynch

LYNCH, DR. THEODORE NORTON, 79, died February 19, 2012 in Houston, TX, surrounded by family.

He was a loving and caring husband and father, a dedicated physician and a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Assumption.

Ted was born at St. Joseph's Infirmary in Louisville and grew up in the Highlands. He graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1950. He received his B.S. from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH in 1954 and his M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1958. He interned at the New England Medical Center, Boston, where he served part of his residency and where he met his wife, Caroline Keller.

He served another part of his residency and completed an endocrinology fellowship at Seton Hall College of Medicine in Jersey City, NJ. Dr. Lynch served in the U.S. Air Force for two years as a captain, conducting endocrine research at Brooks Air Base, San Antonio, TX. He left the Air Force in 1965 and returned to Louisville, where he was a clinical faculty member at the University of Louisville Medical School and was a physician for its Student Health Services.

Dr. Lynch practiced endocrinology in Louisville for almost 40 years, first as a solo practitioner and then as the founder of The Endocrine Associates. He practiced at Jewish Hospital for many years, serving one year as president of its Medical Staff and later as a member of its Ethics Committee.

Ted loved house-boating on the Ohio River; for 35 years he happily captained his boat, the Happy Hormone. He enjoyed playing the saxophone and listening to music especially classical, jazz and big band; he appreciated a good game of cribbage and savored the occasional cigar.

Ted is preceded in death by Caroline Keller Lynch, his wife of 45 years, and is survived by his sons, Richard (Liz), of Albany, CA and John (Mech), of Friendswood, TX; grandchildren, Matthew, Keller, Emily, Catherine and Margaret; his sister, Jeanne Lynch Pitt; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane. The funeral Mass will be on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth St.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Samuel Cheng Lectureship in Medical Ethics Series at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Gifts should be sent to UofL Foundation, Office of University Advancement, Louisville, KY 40292. Please note that your gift is in memory of Dr. Lynch for the Dr. Samuel Cheng Lectureship.

Virginia Marcum

Virginia Marcum 90, died peacefully at her home July 4, 2011

She was retired from The Louisville Presbyterian Seminary where she served as Presidents Secretary for many years. She was a member of The Woman’s Club of Louisville and a longtime member of Highland Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Max Marcum, grandson Dakota Marcum.

She is survived by her son Max “Hardy” Marcum (Sally), grandson Forest Marcum (Allison) and her beloved great grandchildren Laine, Laila, and Reid.

Memorial service Friday July 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Pearson’s 149 Breckenridge Lane with private burial in Cave Hill cemetery.

Memorial contributions maybe made to the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.

Robert Thurston Babson

Robert Thurston Babson, 77, died Thursday, August 16, at Baptist Hospital East.

He was a native of Worcester, MA; former 30 year resident of Grand Rapids, MI; retired credit manager for Grand Rapids (MI) Gypsum; former credit manager for Graybar Electric Co. in Grand Rapids; Army veteran of WWII in the 82nd Airborne Division; graduate of Kansas State University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity; member of the Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids; and former president of the old Grand Rapids Creditmen Association.

He is survived by his wife of the last 2 1/2 years, the former Marjorie Hunsinger Weeks of Louisville; three stepsons, John and Andy Weeks of Louisville, and Robert Weeks of Austin, TX; and ten step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Hildegarde Hamma Babson, in 1994.

A memorial service will be held at 7 pm Monday, August 20, at Strathmoor Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be at the church after 5 pm on Monday, August 20.

There will be another memorial service to be held in Grand Rapids at 11 am Saturday, August 25, in the chapel of Fountain Street Church. Visitation will be at Fountain Street Church after 10 am Saturday, August 25.

Memorial gifts may go to the donor's favorite charity.
