Charles William Stoll

Charles William Stoll, 85, died Monday in Norton Surburban Hospital.

He was retired owner of Stoll Oil Company, Sinclair and Atlantic Richfield, the first chairman of the Belle of Louisville Operating Board, a licensed pilot of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, past president of the Propeller Club, the Arts Club of Louisville and the Louisville Oilman's Club, past chariman of the Kentucky Petroleum Council, honorary chairman of the Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen, and a Paul Harris Fellow and 46 year member of the Rotary Club of Louisville, a member of the Kentucky Opera Board and Second Presbyterian Chuch.

He is survived by his wife, the former Lucy Miller; a son, Charles C. Stoll; a daughter, Christina Kramer; three stepdaughters, Geraldine Swarts, Judith Reed and Susan Burks; a sister, Mrs. Everett Ballard; a brother, George Stoll Jr.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10 am Thursday, December 13, at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road. Burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitiation will be from 2-5, & 7-9 pm Wednesday, December 12.

Memorial gifts may go to the Bellewood Presbyterian Children's Home or Second Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy Compton Waters

Dorothy Compton Waters, 104, of Ft. Myers, FL, died there November 30, 2001.

She was a native of Louisville and member of the Women's Club of Louisville, Women's Fall Cities Golf Association, Harmony Landing Country Club, Cabbage Patch Settlement House and Cypress Lake Country Club, and a graduate of Wellsley College.

She is survived by a great niece, Beverly Duff; and great nephews, Richard. W., Milton Stuart and Paul B. Compton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Friday, December 14, at Pearson's. Burial will be at Cave Hill cemetery.

Edward Lee Holley

Edward Lee Holley, 63, formerly of Emporia, VA, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at the Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's Inpatient Unit at Norton Audubon Hospital.

He was a former Virginia State Trooper who went into the healthcare field 35 years ago. For the past 19 years, he was the Executive Director of The King's Daughters and Sons Home, Inc. in Louisville.

Mr. Holley was a past certified Fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators, a member of the Pendennis Club, and a memer of St. James Episcopal Church in Pewee Valley, KY.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Patricia Squire Scheidemantel; three daughters, Mary-Helen Holley Douglas of Tucson, AZ, Kathryn W., and Annalee S. of Louisville; and two grandchildren, Holley Anne and Peyton Leigh.

Memorial service: 11 am Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church, 401 LaGrange Road, Pewee Valley. Visitation: 6-9 pm Friday at Pearson's. Burial will be held in Emporia, Virginia.

William P. Peak, M.D.

William P. Peak, M.D., beloved physician, teacher, father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 6. He was 79.

A native of Louisville, Peak saw combat during World War II as a second lieutenant with the First Marine Division on Okinawa. Among other engagements, he participated in the battles of Wana Draw and Shuri Castle. Okinawa was a killing field for young second lieutenants. Of the twelve that went ashore with Peak on May 8, 1945, only three lived to see the end of the campaign.

After Japan's surrender, Peak served in Tientsin, China, as aide to Marine Corps General Peck. There he was promoted to first lieutenant. Upon being mustered out of the Corps with an honorable discharge, he returned to civilian life in his native Louisville. In 1947, he married the former Patsie Logan to whom he would give a lifetime's love and devotion.

In 1952, he received his M.D. from U of L. Dr. Peak did his internship at Louisville General Hospital, served a two-year residency in internal medicine at the VA Hospital, and was then awarded a fellowship in rheumatology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Returning to Louisville in 1956, he entered private practice as a rheumatologist and helped co-found and run The Arthritis Clinic for U of L's Medical School. At the clinic he cared for poor patients free of charge and taught generations of physicians the art of medicine. A renowned diagnostician, Peak always said a doctor's greatest responsibility was to listen to his patients.

He loved baseball, Shakespeare, fly-fishing, his patients, his family, most everyone he ever met, and life in general. He is survived by his wife, Patsie; two daughters, Catherine and Melissa; two sons, William, Jr. and William Smock; his brother, J. Hunter Peak, Jr.; and three grandchildren, Mariah, Skye, and Forest. He is also survived by his love. It lives and breathes.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, February 9, at Cave Hill cemetery.

Memorial gifts may go to the Arthritis Foundation, Kentucky Chapter.

Ralph H. Rommel

Ralph H. Rommel, 80, died Monday, February 4, at his residence.

He was a construction engineer and US Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mattie Hoskins; daughters, Karen Howe, Cathryn Brown and Melissa Gootee; a son, Ralph G. Rommel; a brother, Robert Rommel; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private graveside funeral at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson's.

Gloria Swimme Honnaker

Gloria Swimme Honnaker, 80, died Friday, February 1, at St. Matthews Manor Nursing Home.

She was a retired dental assistant; a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Clifton Unitarian Church.

She is survived by a sister, Martha Strohm of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Elwood Swimme of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Cave Hill cemetery.

Memorial gifts may go to the WHAS Crusade for Children.

Juanita Skaggs

Juanita Skaggs, 80, of Louisville, died Sunday, February 3, at the Jenny Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, KY.

She was a native of Anderson County, KY; a retired nursing director for Brownsboro Hills Nursing Home; an Army Nurse Corp veteran of WWII; and a member of the WWII Memorial Society and Second Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Marshall of Hopkinsville, and Donna Sue Choate of Bowling Green, KY; four grandchildren, Todd Marshall, Erin Lea Wolf, Amanda Choate, and Jarrid Choate; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Marshall.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen cemetery at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 6. Visitation is from 1-5, & 7-9 pm Tuesday, February 5, at Pearson's.

Donna Bunton Yenowine

Donna Bunton Yenowine, 64, died Sunday, February 3, at Baptist Hospital East.

She was a native of Louisville and a retired federal attorney with the Small Business Administration. She received a Certificate of Special Achievement in 1994 for Exceptional Work Performance awarded by the SBA Regional Administrator. She was a former board member of the Combined Federal Campaign of the Metro United Way; and member of the Federal ADR Council, Kentucky Bar Association, and Louisville Bar Association.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Yenowine of Louisville, and David Yenowine of Ashburn, VA; two sisters, Sherry Bunton Warrick and Vicki Bunton Byers, both of Louisville; four grandchildren, Kristy Raydon of Louisville, Kevin and Blair Yenowine of Ashburn, VA, and Emily Yenowine of Louisville; and a longtime companion, Larry Barker of Louisville.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, February 6, at Pearson's. Burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation is from 1-5, & 7-9 pm Tuesday, February 5; and after 10 am Wednesday, February 6.

Philip G. Bailey

Philip G. Bailey, 60, died Tuesday, January 29, at his residence.

He was a native of Bath, Maine and a US Navy Veteran. He was Jazz host and Classical Music director for Public Radio Partnership. Member of the Louisville Federation of Muscians and Louisville Jazz Society.

He is survived by his wife, the former Patty Hubbuch; daughters, Gretchen & Morgan Bailey; sister, Anne Benaquist of Watertown, MA.

Memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, February 2, at Pearson's Chapel. Visitation is at Pearson's from 2-5 & 7-9 Friday, February 1.

Thomas Woodson Lowery

Thomas Woodson Lowery, 40, of Louisville, died suddenly at his home on Monday.

He is sadly missed by his loving family and many friends. He is survived by daughters Kirstyn, 14, and Alyssa, 12; his mother, Joyce Harrison Lowery; his brothers, Jack Miller Lowery III and Robert Lowery; and his fiancee Lynda Hahn.

He was preceded in death by his father, attorney Jack M. Lowery Jr.; and by his beloved grandparents, Lloyd and Mildred Harrison of Dale Hollow Lake, TN and Jack M. Lowery Sr. and Sally Lowery Gibson of Georgetown, KY.

Tom enjoyed an ideal childhood and youth growing up in Anchorage, where he was a member of Anchorage Presbyterian Church. He was a true renaissance man, gifted in music and the arts, a legendary fisherman and culinary artist. His favorite memories were of Sunset Dock, fishing and guiding. Tom, who attended Tennessee Technological Institute and the University of Louisville School of Nursing, was an inside salesman for Plumbers Supply of Louisville. His wit, charm and enthusiasm for life will be missed by his co-workers and all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at Pinewood cemetery in Centerville, Tennessee. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2002, at Pearson's.
