Leticia M. Hegewald

Leticia M. Hegewald, 80, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Norton Suburban Hospital.

She was a retired medical research technologist with the University of Louisville Department of Pharmacology. She was also past president of the Women's Endowment Association of Christ Church Cathedral as well as the Women of the Cathedral.

She is survived by a daughter, Leticia H. Davis of Arlington, VA; a son, Carl E. Hegewald, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Johnson of Bowling Green, KY and Louise M. Henry of Louisville; a brother, Walker E. Morris of Cherokee, AL; and two grandsons, Timothy P. Davis of Arlington, VA and Jeffrey A. Hegewald of Colorado Springs, CO.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, June 10, at the St. Luke's Chapel of the Episcopal Church Home, 1201 Lyndon Lane. Interment is at 10 am Monday, June 10, at Cave Hill cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may go to the Episcopal Church Home Scholarship Fund.

F. Wesley Kessler

F. Wesley Kessler, 78, of Louisville, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's inpatient unit at Norton Healthcare Pavilion.

He was a retired vice president of the old Jaggers Equipment Co. and a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Engineering, attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and a member of Hurstbourne Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Roberta "Bobbie" Kaiser; a son, John L. Kessler; two daughters, Jeanne Baldwin and Pegge Luvisi; and seven grandchildren, Carter, Leland and Chris Kessler, Jeananne Baldwin and Sarah, Hannah and Wes Luvisi, all of Louisville.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. Private burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Louisville.

Virginia Louise Huddleston Bendt

Virginia Louise Huddelston Bendt, 93, of Louisville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Norton Suburban Hospital.

She attended Ward Belmont College and graduated from Northwestern University in 1932. In the following year, she married Jackson Bendt, a Louisville radio personality, who is since deceased. She was retired from a life of teaching that included 20 years at Western Junior High and 10 years at Highland Junior High. Mrs. Bendt was a member of Woman's Club of Louisville, Crescent Hill Woman's Club, American Association of University Women, Discussion Group of Douglass Boulevard Christian Church, Louisville and Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, Goodwill Associates and Southeast Christian Church.

She is survived by Darrell V. Metcalfe, a friend who cared for her, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with visitation to follow.

Memorial gifts may go to the American Cancer Society.

Thomas Dorsey Newbern, Jr.

Thomas Dorsey Newbern, Jr., 82, of Louisville, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Baptist Hospital East.

He was a retired clerk for various companies including the U.S. Civil Service. He served in WWII with the Army, and was a member of Douglass Blvd. Christian Church.

He is survived by a brother, David Pelle Newbern of Victoria, TX; and two nephews.

A graveside service will be held at a time to be announced on Monday, June 10, at Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be Monday.

Wilma Bryant Mason

Wilma Bryant Mason, 81, of Louisville, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Norton Audubon Hospital.

She gave a lifetime of volunteering and service to many organizations with special emphasis on the Order of Rainbow Girls. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and Zeta Iota Chapter, Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mason, and a daughter, Patricia Sue Yung.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Mason Shepherd; two granddaughters, Kelley Waddell Ledford and Michele Yung McDowell; four great-grandchildren, Tayler and Tommy McDowell, and Lucy and Lilly Ledford; and three siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am Monday, June 10, at Pearson's. Burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation is from 1-5 pm Sunday, June 9.

Memorial gifts may go to Hospice of Louisville.

Nancy B. Weber

Nancy B. Weber, 83, of Louisville, formerly of Danville, KY, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Parkway Medical Center.

She was a homemaker, a member of Big Spring Country Club, Pendennis Club, Louisville Woman's Club, and Highland Presbyterian Church, and was an avid golfer.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Weber III.

She is survived by her husband, James Weber; three sons, Doug, Bob, and Rick Weber; a daughter, Anne Bironas; and eleven grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, June 7, at Cave Hill cemetery. The procession will meet at the Broadway entrance at 2:15 pm. Visitation will be private.

Memorial gifts may go to the donor's favorite charity or to the Alzheimer's Association.

W. Roscoe Willett

W. Roscoe Willett, 86, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Episcopal Church Home.

He was the former president of W.R. Willett Lumber Company and a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Woodberry Forest School and past president of Kentucky Wholesale Lumber Dealers Association.

Survivors include his wife, the former Fayette McDowell; a daughter, Louise Johnson of Orlando, FL; sons, W. Roscoe Willett III and Robert McDowell "Mac" Willett; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Welch; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Chapel of Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road. Private burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery.

Pearson's in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity High School Lacrosse, 4011 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40207 or to the donor's charity of choice.

Virginia Lee Wills

Virginia Lee Wills, 84, of Louisville, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the Christian Health Center where she resided for many years.

She was born April 4, 1918, and was the daughter of John Alexander Wills and Mary Swearingen Fields. Virginia was stricken with polio when she was a teenage and survived. She graduated from Atherton School for Girls in 1938, worked for many years for Dr. Charles Wood, an orthopedic surgeon and was a member of Beargrass Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by an older sister, Mary Elizabeth Wills; an older brother, George Wills; and two younger sisters, Mary Jane Wills and Margaret Wills Rowe.

She is survived by two nephews, John Warren Rowe and Murray Wills Rowe, sons of Warren and Margaret Rowe.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Burial: Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation: after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Christian Health Center.

James B. Douglas, M.D.

James B. Douglas, M.D., 87, of Louisville, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his residence.

Dr. Douglas was born September 29, 1914, in Detroit, MI. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Medicine and trained as a resident in radiology at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He then served four years in the Army Medical Corps during World War II, retiring as a Major after heading the x-ray department of a 500-bed hospital in Normandy. He came to Louisville in 1945 and was a member of the x-ray department at Norton Hospital for over 40 years. He taught at the University of Louisville School of Medicine as an assistant clinical professor of radiology. Dr. Douglas was past president of both the Greater Louisville Radiologic Society and the Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Radiology. He served as counselor for the Radiologic Society of North America and the Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Radiology. He was a member of the American and Kentucky Medical Associations, Second Presbyterian Church and Louisville Country Club.

Dr. Douglas married Marjorie Elaine Hamilton in February of 1942, in Grand Rapids, MI. She preceded him in death in 1992. He has been married to Patricia Ann Holmes for the past 10 years. He is survived by his four sons from his marriage to Marjorie: James Bruce Douglas Jr. of Morgan Hill, CA, Dr. Craig Hamilton Douglas of Louisville, David Ross Douglas of Eatonton, GA and Phillip Bell Douglas of Louisville. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Rhonda Dunkelberger and Holli Holmes; two sisters, Mrs. R. William Cooper and Mrs. William Pearson, both of Michigan; and 10 grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25 at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Rd., with burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Pearson's.

Memorials may go to Louisville Deaf Oral School or Visually Impaired Preschool Services, 1229 Garvin Place, Louisville, KY 40203.

Marion Wayne Hardison Jr.

Marion Wayne Hardison Jr., 66, died Saturday, July 27 at his residence.

He was a retired laboratory technician for Durkee's Famous Foods, a member of Preston Masonic Lodge #281, American Motorcycle Association, the American Legion and a US Army veteran.

He is survived by a daughter, Carla G. Newton of Louisville; sons, Marion Wayne Hardison III of Louisville and Michael Thomas Hardison of Lexington, KY; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 at Pearson's with burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
