Elma "Moe" Tullock

Elma "Moe" Tullock, 64, of Louisville, passed away July 28, 2002.

He was recently retired from the Ford Louisville Assembly Plant after 36 years of loyal service. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist and a US Air Force veteran. "Moe" was a Sunday School teacher of four-year-old children for many, many years. He loved music and was a member of a group who enjoyed gathering and playing country music together. He had a ministry of delivering homemade bread ("Moe Better Bread") to friends, shut-ins or people in crisis. He had recently designed and landscaped a beautiful English garden at his home. "Moe" was known for a kind and gentle spirit and loved by many who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Frankie Grimes; son, Davis Tullock and his wife, Jenny; two grandchildren, Jake and Laurie Tullock; sisters, Thelma Jeffries, Edith Mulkey and Ruby Kidwell; brothers, Rex, Thomas, Ed and Roger Tullock; 32 nieces and nephews; and father-in-law, Davis "Red" Grimes, who retired from Ford Motor Company after 42 years of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Rd., with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Ministries Department of Christ Church United Methodist or the American Diabetes Association.

R. Arnold Griswold, Jr.

R. Arnold Griswold, Jr., 72, of Louisville, died Friday, September 27, 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. Arnold Griswold.

He served as a medic during the Korean War and was a graduate of Centre College. He was retired from the Hand Clinic of the University Physician Group, and was a member of Christ Church Cathedral where he was a lay reader and chalice bearer.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patsy Kincer Griswold; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Chris Lay; a son, Rettig A. Griswold, III; four grandsons, Tyler, Spencer, Thomas, and Remington; and three sisters, Bonita Shallcross, Georgine Crosley, and Annalee Nix.

Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Sunday, September 29, at Pearson's. The funeral service will be at 11 am Monday, September 30, at Christ Church Cathedral, 421 South Second Street. Burial will be at Cave Hill cemetery.

Emily Bacon Bird

Emily Bacon Bird, 101, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at the Forum at Brookside in Louisville.

Born September 9, 1901, she was the daughter of Mary Adams and Edmund Harrison Bacon. Raised in Lousiville with her sisters Ethel Bacon Bland and Maria Bacon MacDonald, she attended college at the University of California where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. In 1933 she married William Tate Bird of Shelby County and settled in beautiful farmland known as Birdland Farm.

She was active in the Mulberry Church in Shelby County, running their Vacation Bible School among other responsibilities. She was the last living member of Mulberry Church. In 1948, she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville. Here she served in many capacities with exceptional leadership skills. When asked to be an elder, she refused by saying, 'women should not so serve!' So, with the exception of being Preacher and Elder, she filled every position known to the church.

Her community service took her around the country to participate in various National Boards of the Presbyterian Church. She served as Board Member of Bellewood in Anchorage, KY. Devoted to her church, her family and her friends, she leaves a rich heritage of Christian love that has touched the lives of many.

In 1993, she moved to The Forum in Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Tate Bird.

She is survived by her four nieces, Mary Bland MacGregor, Harriotte Bland Coke Beckwith, Caroline Bland Baker, and Betsy Hannah Schmidt; and her nephew, Edmund Bacon MacDonald.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 8, 2002, at Pearson's Chapel. Burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation is from 11 am - 1 pm Friday, November 8.

Robert Carne

Robert Carne, 69, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at his residence.

He was a retired civil engineer and was former owner of B & B Lamps in St. Matthews. A native of Houghton, MI, he was a graduate of Michigan Technological University. He was also a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and was a former member of the Power Squadron and Glen Oaks Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Barbara Woodall; his son, Douglas Carne and his wife, Beth, of Huntington Woods, MI; and two grandsons, Alex and Curtis.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, December 10, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Monday, December 9.

Memorial gifts may go to Hospice of Louisville.

Robert H. Kornfeld

Robert H. Kornfeld, better known as Bob Kay, 82, of Louisville, died Monday, December 9, 2002, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's inpatient unit at Norton Healthcare Pavilion.

Bob Kornfeld was a native of Springfield, IL, where he began a radio broadcasting career as Bob Kay at WTAX radio in 1937; he was a teenager just out of high school. Bob came to WAVE radio in Louisville in 1941, beginning an illustrious career in broadcasting. Bob served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, then returned to WAVE radio and, later, went to WAVE-TV when television came along. He was a newsman, news anchor, feature reporter and documentary producer. He once said, "Everything there is possible to do in radio and TV, I've done." Bob Kay retired in 1982, after 41 years at WAVE and WAVE-TV.

He is survived by cousins, Charlene Kloppenburg and William Tucker, both of Springfield, Ruth Warrington of Denver, CO and several other cousins and his friends/care givers, Lou and Marilyn Harpenau, of Louisville.

Bob Kay was preceded in death by his father and mother, Max and Rose Kornfeld.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, December 12, at St. John Lutheran Church, 901 Breckenridge Lane. Visiting will be at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, from 4-8 pm Wednesday, December 11. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery in Springfield, IL.

Memorial contributions as expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Louisville.

Mary Elizabeth Conliffe

Memorial services for Mary Elizabeth Conliffe will be held at 3:30 pm Monday, December 9, 2002, at the Mary Bingham Room of the University Club, 2001 S. Brook Street.

Mary, 82, was a former resident of Louisville, KY, and passed away in The Woodlands, TX on Wednesday, November 27, 2002. Mary was a secretary at Joseph & Joseph Architects for a number of years. She was an accomplished pianist who taught others and she was a church organist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Gorman Conliffe.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Conliffe McCoy and Michael McCoy of Willis, TX; a granddaughter, Sarah Anne Tirey and her husband, Brad Tirey of Houston, TX; a great-grandson, Alex J. Tirey of Houston; a sister, Verbal G. Hollis of New Albany, IN; stepdaughters, Jane Fauth of Richmond, VA, and Mary Kennedy of Louisville; stepsons, James G. Conliffe, Jr. and Eugene W. Conliffe of Louisville; and numerous stepgrandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the J. Gorman and Mary E. Conliffe Scholarship Fund, Development Office, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292.

Nina Samuels O'Mary

Nina Samuels O'Mary, 96, of Louisville, passed away Friday, January 31, 2003, at Meadowview Nursing Home.

She was a native of Lebanon Junction, KY and a retired employee of the old Belknap Company, after 27 years. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and the Beechmont Womens Club.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Scott and a twin sister, Nona Argenbright.

Survivors include her son Joe O'Mary and his wife Aline; brother, John Samuels; son-in-law, Miller Scott; five granddaughters, Debbie McDaniel, Cathy Johnson, Beth Hilgeford, Sherry Haley and Melissa Stinnett; four grandsons, Curt Scott, Don, Doug and Joe O'Mary, Jr.; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Monday, February 3, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane with burial at Lebanon Junction cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Sunday, February 2.

Frances Lucille Moss

Frances Lucille Moss, 92, of Louisville, died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at her home.

She was a native of Shelby County; a retired bookeeper for the old Aubrey Feed Mill; and member of Christ Church United Methodist, the Business and Professional Women's Club, and St. Matthews Woman's Club.

She is survived by a nephew, Wilson H. Moss and his wife Gail; a niece, Martha Nicholson; and several great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, February 4, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery, Todd's Point. Visitation will be from 2-6 pm Monday.

Expressions of sympathy may go to Christ Church United Methodist.

Charles Robert Hatcher

Charles Robert Hatcher, 78, of Louisville, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at St. Matthews Manor.

A native of Albany, NY, he was a retired safety engineer at the Charlestown (IN) Army Depot, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Masonic Lodge Ancient Temple #14 F&AM;, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Valley, Scottish Rite and Shrine Cypress Temple and a past commander of Louis W. Oppenheim Post #1019 VFW, all of Albany.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jane Hatcher, and a son, Robert F. Hatcher.

He is survived by two sons, Michael S. Hatcher and David E. Hatcher of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Margaret Layman; and three grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Burial will be in Jerusalem cemetery in Feura Bush, NY. Visitation will be from 1-3, & 5-7:30 pm on Wednesday.

Memorial gifts may go to the American Diabetes Association.

Dorothy H. Mount

Dorothy H. Mount, 91, of Louisville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Pine Tree Villa.

The wife of the late Harold H. Mount, she was born on her parent's farm in Mattoon, IL, and received her teaching degree from University of Illinois Junior College, then taught at the Buttermilk School in Mattoon.

She is survived by her son, Stephen L. Mount and his wife, Diane; and a grandson, David L. Mount and his wife, Kelly.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Ln., followed by visitation there.

Memorial gifts may go to Hospice of Louisville.
