Sally Bowers

Sally Bowers, 58, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at her residence.

She was the nursing home administrator for the Masonic Homes of Kentucky, a member and past president of Kiwanis Club of St. Matthews, a member of the Austin Healey Club, an extra for the Louisville Ballet and a graduate of the Universities of Kentucky and Louisville.

She is survived by her sisters, Kay Davidson and Jane Schneider both of Louisville; and a brother, James Scott Wallace of Danville, KY; three nieces; one nephew; friend, Doug Shepard; and all of theMasonic Homes of Kentucky friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Cremation was chosen.

Memorials gifts may go to the Shamrock Foundation, Hospice of Louisville or Masonic Homes of Kentucky.

John Stengel

John "Casey" Stengel, 91, of Louisville, died Sunday, December 5, 2004, at Jewish Hospital.

He was a graduate of Manual High School and attended the University of Louisville. In his early career, he was a sports announcer as well as a singer for numerous radio stations. He was also a former sports and police reporter for the Courier-Journal. He retired as a salesman of life insurance and pension planning.

Mr. Stengel was a retired captain in the Coast Guard Reserve, having served in WWII. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable; former Water Safety Chairman for the American Red Cross; former president of the Reserve Officers Association; a charter member of River Road Country Club; and member of the Pendennis Club and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, R. Claire Stengel; a daughter, Suzanne R. Hehemann; a son, John Daniel Stengel Jr. (Cynthia); a sister, Martha Ayres; and three grandchildren, Claire Ashley Bale, Tripp Hehemann, and Casey Chan Stengel.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, December 8, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial at Calvary cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Tuesday, December 7.

Memorial gifts may go to Little Sisters of the Poor or Boys' Haven.

Martha Bivin

Martha Bivin, 94, of Louisville, formerly of Greenville, KY, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at Jefferson Manor.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. George W. Pedigo Jr.; three nieces, Kathryn Pedigo Cheek, Ann Pedigo Martin and Betty Bivin; one nephew, Leslie L. Bivin; four great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 10, at Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, December 9, at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville.

Memorial contributions may go to First Christian Church, 133 E. Main Cross St., Greenville, KY 42345.

Virgil Lee "Smokey" Stover

Virgil Lee "Smokey" Stover, 82, died Monday, September 16, 2002 at Baptist Hospital East.

He was a retired advertising executive for General Electric Corp., a retired realtor for Paul Semonin Co. and a longtime lay minister for the Episcopal Church Home. A native of Quinlan, TX, he was a World War II Navy Veteran, a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Louisville Rose Society, Mended Hearts, Sigma Chi Fraternity and former member of the Thoroughbred Chorus and an Actors Theater of Louiville associate.

He is survived by his wife, Rebekah P. Stover; daughter, Cindy Moseley of Snellville, GA; son, Randy Stover of Prospect, KY; and grandchildren, Justin Moseley and Rebekah Stover.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 9616 Westport Rd., with burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 20 at Pearson's.

Memorials may be sent to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Memorial Fund or American Heart Association

Gertrude Jane Dixon Sawyer

Gertrude Jane Dixon Sawyer, 86, of Louisville, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at her home.

She was a native of La Farge, WI, and a member of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Club, River Road Country Club, and St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Sawyer.

Survivors include two sons, Phillip Sawyer of Chandler, AZ, and David Sawyer of Marietta, GA; two daughters, Martha Rust of Sellersburg, IN, and M. Jean Peachy of Kendallville, IN; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 23 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane. Arrangements by Pearson’s.

Memorial gifts may go to the American Cancer Society or the donor’s favorite charity.

Edith Roberts Kremer

Edith Roberts Kremer, of Louisville, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Norton Audubon Hospital.

She is survived by a daughter, Vikki Stempkowski; a son, Thomas Stempkowski; and three grandchildren, Kelly, Christopher, and Keri Stempkowski.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-4, & 6-8 pm Monday, April 25.

Memorial gifts may go to the American Lung Association.

Leonard E. Clemens

Leonard E. Clemens, 79, of Louisville, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home at Oxmoor Lodge, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born and raised in Hardin, Missouri. He was retired from the transportation business working in management with both the railroad and trucking industries. He served two years in the Merchant Marines on the Liberty ships during World War II and traveled to many parts of the world delivering supplies to our service men. After leaving the Merchant Marines he served two years in the United States Army in the Philippines and took part in the battle of the invasion of the island of Luzon. After the war he served 9 months in the occupation of Japan. He considered it an honor and a privilege to serve his country in time of war and after seeing so much of the world realized the United States of America was the best place in the world for him to live. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church and the CBS Sunday School class. When he joined St. Matthews Baptist Church he was in poor health and was never able to serve in any capacity. He was an Ordained Deacon and taught adult Sunday classes for many years in other churches. He loved his God, his family and his country and lived a life that exemplified that.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Casper Clemens, two brothers Roy and Glenn, three sisters Mildred, Nina and Elizabeth.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Laura Sue Clemens of Louisville; two daughters, Katherine Gregg of Louisville and Terri Clemens of Chicago; one son, Stephen Clemens of Nashville; one son-in-law, James Clark of Chicago; three granddaughters, Maggie Gregg and Laura Gregg of Louisville, and Lindsay Clark of Chicago; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and James Peters of La Caste, TX; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Clemens of Hardin, MO and Marge Clemens of Kansas City, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 25, at St. Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Avenue, with Dr. Leslie Hollon officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, at Wakenda cemetery in Hardin, MO. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm Sunday, April 24, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville, St. Matthews Baptist Church, or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc.

Janice Reiss Schneider

Janice Reiss Schneider, 72, of Louisville, passed away Friday, October 14, at her residence.

She was a retired Registered Nurse, a native of New Albany, IN, a member of Jefferson County Medical Society Alliance, Authors guild, Former member of Precision Figure Skatings (Moms on Ice), and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

Janice was preceded in death by two brothers,one sister and her former husband, Frederick C. Reiss, M.D.

She is survived by her husband, William Schneider, two daughters, Paula Reiss and Claire Reiss; two brothers, Joe Cummings and Bill Cummings; and two sisters, Sister Mary Julia Cummings and Sister Mary Pat Cummings; and two grandchildren, Ashley Seitz and Amanda Chan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 17, 2005 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Rd. with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. The Visitation is from 1-6 P.M. on Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorial gifts may go to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Lawrence C. Jones

Lawrence “Laury” C. Jones, 92, former CEO and Chairman of the Van Dorn Company and Cleveland civic leader, passed away at Oaklawn Health and Rehabilitation Center in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, October 15, 2005.

As President and CEO, Van Dorn became a leader and innovator of metal and plastic packaging for major food processors, and plastic molding machinery. Listed on the New York Stock exchange, the company had 19 manufacturing plants in six states, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Jones was active in a number of civic projects and played an integral role in getting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to build its museum in Cleveland.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, died in 1996, Nancy Jones.

Mr. Lawrence C. Jones is survived by his daughter, Judy Jones Gordon of Sea Island, GA; his son, Robert N. Jones of Louisville; eight grandchildren, Michael Jay Banker, Douglass Kipp Banker, Robert Scott Jones, Kimberly Casaboro, Norton Taylor Jones, Laura Vogel, Matthew Jones, and Andrew Jones; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights, OH. Local arrangements by Pearson's.

Those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3703 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40220.

Susan Nottingham Lynch Moseley

Mrs. Robert Todd Moseley died on Monday, October 24, 2005, at Brownsboro Hills Nursing Center in Louisville.

She was the former Susan Nottingham Lynch of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Nelson Helm, Jr.) and Ellen Todd (Mrs. William B. Brown); two grandchildren, J. Pendleton Helm and Edward N. Helm; two great-grandchildren; and beloved caregivers and friends.

The body will be cremated. Private burial in Cave Hill cemetery. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 6, at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1011 Cherokee Road. Visitation will follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Albert Bernard Schnell Jr.

Albert Bernard Schnell, Jr., 77, of Louisville, died Sunday, October 23, 2005, at Jefferson Place.

Mr. Schnell retired as executive vice president of the old Liberty National Bank. He was a graduate of Louisville Male High School and the University of Louisville.

He was past president of the Financial Executives Institute, and a member of Big Spring County Club, Executives Club of Louisville, University of Louisville Athletic Association, Shawnee Lodge #830 F&AM;, Louisville Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine Temple, and the Royal Order of Jesters.

Mr. Schnell was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Schnell, Sr. and Vivian Yates Schnell; and by his first wife, Charlotte Bowlds Schnell.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Adams Schnell; daughters, Rebecca Hollkamp (Jeff) and Diane Robertson (Tim); stepsons, Joe Whelan (Teresa) of Charlotte, NC, and Chris Whelan (Jennifer); stepdaughter, Anne Hawkins (Leigh) of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Brent and Charlotte Hollkamp, Matt and Mollie Robertson, Jack and Christopher Hawkins, and Elizabeth Whelan.

The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, October 25, at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with entombment in Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation is from 2-5, & 7-9 pm Monday, October 24.

Memorial gifts may go to the Kosair Children’s Hospital Foundation, or Angel Flights, 4620 Haygood Road Suite 1, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.
