William Garrett Stiglitz Jr.

William Garrett Stiglitz, Jr., 88, of Louisville died Thursday, December 28, 2006. He was born March 3, 1918 at the family home on Vernon Avenue.

Mr. Stiglitz was a graduate of Louisville Male High School and the University of Louisville. He served in the Navy during WW II and the Korean War, retiring as a Commander. As a lifelong member of Highland Presbyterian Church, he was active on numerous committees as well as serving as an Elder and Deacon. After retirement as owner of Inter City Auto Supply for 25 years, Mr. Stiglitz was a faithful volunteer for many community organizations.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sally Sandidge Stiglitz and his brother, F.M. Stiglitz.

Survivors include his children, William Garrett Stiglitz, III ( Pat ) and Allen S. Bose (Skip Henderson) of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Garrett E. and Katherine A. Stiglitz and Dean H. Bose of Portland, OR; sisters, Virginia Cole of Cartersville, GA and Ann S. Harris; sister in law, Martha D. Stiglitz; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Private graveside services will be held at Cave Hill cemetery followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1011 Cherokee Rd. Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial gifts may go to the Memorial Fund of the church.

Joseph R. Gerichs

Joseph R. Gerichs, 80, of Prospect, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Norton Hospital.

He was former treasure of H.J. Scheirich Co. and previously, a 25 year finance career with General Electric. Mr. Gerichs was a former council member for the City of Prospect, a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, and a member of Hunting Creek Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Gerichs; his children, Jim Gerichs, Dave Gerichs, Lauren Gerichs, and Jerry Gerichs (Eileen); his step-children, Bruce Vernig (Patti), Linda Phillips (Bruce), Barbara Vernig, and Heather Collinge (Cory); four grandchildren; and 11 step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Rudy Lane.

Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Friday, January 19, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorial gifts may go to his church.

Selby Vogt Love M.D.

Selby Vogt Love, M.D., 93, of Louisville, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at the Episcopal Church Home.

Dr. Love retired after 32 years of practice as a pediatrician, was a member of American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, Louisville Country Club, Jefferson County Medical Society, First Alliance Church, was a past president of the Louisville Pediatric Society and an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Medical Corps.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Thomas (John L.) and Kathleen Shelley (John B.); one sister, Mary Virginia Beard; three grandchildren, Blair Thomas Deggendorfer, Morgan Love Thomas and John Britton Clancy; and one great-grandchild, Patrick Clancy. Also survived by two nephews, Selby Vogt Love and G. Thomas Love; and one niece, Margaret Love Martin.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Episcopal Church Home staff, especially Dr. Love's caregivers, Maxine Marr, Bonnie Hickerson and Betty Satori.

Private graveside services will be held in Cave Hill cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am Friday, January 19, 2007, at St. Luke's Chapel of the Episcopal Church Home. Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial gifts may go the the St. Luke's Chapel Building Fund of the Episcopal Church Home.

Leila Clark

Leila “Lee” Clark, 81, of Louisville, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Baptist Hospital East.

She was Co-Owner & Operator of Concord Construction Company and Arbor Product Corporation and a retired Real Estate Agent.

She is survived by daughters, Dr. Sharon Clark (Dr. Adrian VanBakel) and Susan Mitchell (Dr. Gerald Mitchell); brother, George Renholt (Char Olson); and sister-in-law, Ruth Hoover.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 20 at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church, 4936 Brownsboro Road. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until time of service at the church. A celebration of her life will follow at the home of Dr. Gerald & Susan Mitchell in PeWee Valley, KY. Pearson’s in charge of arrangements.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church, Sierra Club or your local animal shelter.

Richard H. Milburn Sr.

Richard H. "Dick" Milburn, Sr., 77, of Louisville, KY, died at Baptist East Hospital on Tuesday, January 16, 2007.

He was born May 31, 1929 to William Stanford Milburn, long time principal at Louisville Male High School, and to Gladys Hurst Milburn, a mathematics and Latin teacher in the old public school system. He married Jeanne Durrett in 1952 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN.

He attended Vanderbilt, UL, and graduated from UK in 1952. He was a non-combat veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army, and worked for South Central Bell in the engineering and accounting departments for 37 years, until his retirement in 1989.

Dick was a member of several social, civic and historical organizations. He was an avid fisherman, a life- long volunteer for charitable activities, 35 years with the Kentucky Telco Federal Credit Union, 46 years as a member of the Midlane Park Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities, including Deacon and Elder.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years; and a son, Stanford Milburn, who died in May of 2006.

Survivors include his sons, Richard H. Jr. of Missoula, MT, Matthew Durrett of Bowling Green, KY, and William Thomas of Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Melissa Kayce, Miranda Lynn, Stanford Charles Jr., James William, Nicholas Thomas and Jackson Mathew Milburn; and one great-grandson, Karson Lee Milburn.

Funeral services to be held at 10:00 am Friday, January 19, 2007 at Midlane Park Presbyterian, 6209 Six Mile Lane, with burial to follow in Memorial Park cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 10 am - 2 pm and 4-8 pm Thursday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, and after 9 am Friday at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville, or to Louisville Male High School Foundation, Inc.

Joan Potter Bickel

Mrs. Henry D. Bickel, 74, of Louisville, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Baptist Hospital East.

She was the former Joan Potter and was a member of the Junior League of Louisville and St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband, Henry D. Bickel; one sister, Martha P. Dewing (Bruce); one niece and seven nephews.

Funeral service to be at 11:00 am Friday, January 26, 2007, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2822 Frankfort Avenue, with burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm Thursday, January 25, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorial gifts may go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Mark's Episcopal or your favorite charity.

Ann Strater Fuller

Ann Strater Fuller, 92, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at her residence at the Episcopal Church Home.

She was a member of the St. Luke's Chapel at the Episcopal Church Home. She was a past member of The Junior League of Louisville, Home of the Innocents, and the Louisville Country Club.

She is survived by her two sons, Harry Strater Fuller of Wellesley, MA and Asa Warren Fuller, Jr. of Charleston, WV; in addition to her family that includes five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 29, 2007, at St. Luke's Chapel of the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Road. A private graveside service will follow.

The family requests any contributions be made to the Endowment Fund of the Episcopal Church Home.

Bernard Franklin Sams Sr.

Dr. Bernard Franklin Sams, Sr., 71, of Louisville, died Monday, January 22, 2007 at his home.

Dr. Sams was a retired radiologist, native of Covington, KY and received both his BA and MD degrees from the University of Louisville. He was a captain in the US Army and both practiced and taught radiology at Brooke Army Hospital. He had served his internship at the University of Louisville Hospital and residency at the old St. Joseph's Infirmary. He later practiced at Audubon and Suburban Hospitals and retired in 1996. He was a partner in Maxwell, Meyers, Casper, and Sams and later Medical Imaging Consultants.

His memberships include Jefferson County Medical Society, Kentucky and American Medical Associations, American College of Radiology, Greater Louisville Radiology Society, Radiology Society of North America, Kentucky Chapter of the American chapter of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging, Harmony Landing Country Club and St. Marks Episcopal Church, where he was a Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer and served six times as senior warden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Weldon and Elnora Blanche Bailey Sams; and a daughter, Ruth Landis Sams.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Weldon Southwick; two sons, Bernard F. (Kristi) Sams Jr. and Lewis A. (Jennifer) Sams; two daughters, Laura W. (Mark) Shuford and Rebecca L. (Bob) Woehrle; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 25, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 2822 Frankfort Avenue, with private burial in Cave Hill cemetery. Visiting is 4-7 pm Wednesday, January 24 at Pearsons, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Expressions of sympathy may go to the Choir Fund of his church.
