PAULEY, Wilda Jane, born: October 18 1891 died: September 15 1974 at the Louisa General Hospital; daughter of Ellen Fields and Ambrose Pauley; married : Pete DIALS who died: October 1969; 14 children; the first two were twin girls who were stillborn; one child, Effie, died at age 9 days old; and Jerome died July 28 1966; 10 children survive, the girls are: Nona Mills, Mary Ellen Moore, and Hattie Mae Castle of Inez, Kentucky; and Oma Muncey and Gladys Marie Dials of Beauty, Kentucky; boys: Ellis of Jenny Wiley Rest HOme, Prestonsburg, Kentucky; Burgess of St. Albans, West Virginia; John of Columbus, Ohio; Acie of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; and Elmer of Inez, Kentucky; also, leaves two brothers, Shade Pauley and Lacey Pauley of Beauty, Kentucky; and one sister, Maude Lowe, Pikeville, Kentucky; She was baptized in the winter of 1917 and baptized in the waters of Three Forks of Wolf Creek, the ice had to be cut on an old mill pond and the congregation stood on the ice as she was baptized by Elder Jeff Fields. She placed her membership with the Sidney Church; in 1932 she moved her membership to Leannah Church to help organize the Buck Creek Church, only one member of that original membership still survives, Elder Shade Pauley.

Tom was ordained Deacon, served as Church Treasurer, and was Clerk for several years.

VARNEY, Agnes, a widely known resident of Forest Hills, Kentucky and a member of early families which settled in this region, died May 27 1975 at the age of 84. She was the widow of William French Blackburn died: 1954, whom she wed in 1906. She was born June 16 1890 the daughter of A. H. and Nancy (West) Varney. She was a member of the Salem Regular Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, William F. Blackburn, Forest Hills, Kentucky. and eight daughters: Pauline Lowe of Forest Hills, Kentucky; Mrs. L. W. Stanley of East Beckley West Virginia; Mrs. J. K. Hoskins of Pikeville, Kentucky; Mrs. Toney Stedle and Mrs. Jim Weiderhold of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. John D. Potter of North Tazewell, Virginia; Mrs. Milford Bryant of Langley, Kentucky; and Anna Grace Rumler of Lexington Kentucky. She had 33 grandchildren, 5 of which are deceased, and 49 great-grandchildren, one of which is deceased. Surviving also are a sister, Mrs. Bertha Wilson, and a brother, C. B. Varney, both of Forest Hills, Kentucky. Member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.

VARNEY, E. Harold, son of the late A. M. and Maggie (Rutherford) Varney, members of the early pioneer families of Pike Co., Kentucky; born: November 20 1905 died: March 3 1975; married : Ruth SMITH, daughter of of another family of early settlers in Pike Co., Kentucky, October 16 1946; no children. He was baptized in 1951 and joined the Mt. Pleasant Church of Sardis Association of Old Regular Baptist. He served as Clerk and Deacon for a number of years. In 1963 or 1964 he moved his membership to the Little Jewel Church of the Northern New Salem Association where he served them as Deacon until the Antioch Church was organized in 1966 and then served Antioch as a deacon until his death.
