Alexandria's Jean Schorman, devoted to family, faith

Jean Reeves Schorman's kindness, strong faith and zest for life made the Alexandria woman a welcome addition to any gathering.

The retired executive secretary was an active member of her church and thoroughly enjoyed her membership in social clubs.

"She loved to talk and she was very empathetic with other people and their needs," said a daughter, Debbie Christian of Greensboro, N.C.

"She just was a real outgoing person and everybody kind of looked to her to bring up their morale," her daughter said.

Mrs. Schorman died Sunday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on the AA Highway in Alexandria. She was 69 years old.

Mrs. Schorman was born and reared in Ft. Thomas and graduated from Highlands High School.

She worked 44 years at USF&G, a Cincinnati insurance company, retiring in 1990 as the executive secretary for the branch manager.

"She loved it and was in charge of personnel issues and she did the budget every year for the company," said Ms. Christian.

"She was extremely involved in the operation. They had a big surprise retirement party for her."

Mrs. Schorman was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cold Spring, where she served as a reader, lector and usher.

She was a former chairwoman of the church building committee and prepared the church's Sunday bulletins.

"Her faith was very strong and she said her prayers at dinner as well as be fore bed," said Ms. Christian.

"Every night she prayed for her family and friends."

Mrs. Schorman was a member of the Alexandria Lions Club and Alexandria Senior Citizens.

"She was very vivacious and energetic," said Ms. Christian. "She loved to dance.

"She would be the one at dances to be out there on the dance floor to get everybody else out there."

Besides Ms. Christian, survivors include Mrs. Schorman's husband, Charles H. Schorman; a brother, Roy Reeves of Roswell, Ga.; and a sister, Marian Marsh of Ft. Thomas.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cold Spring.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the church, 3917 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring 41076, or the American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence 41042.

Stella Adams, 86, of Williamstown, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.

Stella Cleo Allen, 84, of Union, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Roy Annis Jr., 68, of Georgetown, died Monday at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown. He was a truck driver with Shady Trucking Co., Georgetown.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Toole Annis; daughters, June Ann Clem of Cynthiana and Annette Musick of Indianapolis; sons, Roy Allen Annis of Pennsylvania , Ralph Annis of Cynthiana, Ernie Annis of Indianapolis and Jack Annis of Berry; stepdaughters, Sharon Lee and Lisa Lee, both of Georgetown; a stepson, Kelly Lee of Georgetown; a brother, Winford Annis of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Morris of Cincinnati and Bernice Switzer of Petersburg; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Corinth.

Frances M. Bokelo, 80, of Erlanger, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Leisure Timers, Elsmere Seniors and St. Henry Church Altar Society, Elsmere.

Survivors include a sister, Verona M. Worster of Erlanger.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Dolores Beatrice Eckler, 67, of Sparta, died Monday at her home after an extended illness. She was a retired waitress and cook with Anchor Grill, Covington.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda C. Martin of Sparta; sons, George W. Eckler of Richwood and Jeffery A. Eckler of Crescent Springs; a brother, Billy Dungan of Austin, Texas ; a sister, Dorothy Kahookele of Fullerton, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.

Howarda "Wanda" Gustin, 70, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth North in Covington. She was a retired waitress.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Perkins of Florence; a son, Michael McDaniel of Florida; and one grandchild.

Margaret Janette Terry Lingenfelter, 76, of Worthville, died Monday at her daughter's home in Louisville. She was a retired housekeeping supervisor for Holiday Inn, and a member of Highland Park Christian Church, Louisville, and Carrollton Moose Lodge. Her husband, Stanley M. Lingenfelter, died in 1979.

Survivors include a son, Michael Lingenfelter of LaGrange, Ga.; daughters, Terry Lingenfelter Henry of Carrollton and Carol Ann Alford of Louisville; 13 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery, Wheatley.

John P. Melough, 82, of Florence, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. He was a retired electrician with Becker and Bertke Electric, and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen K. Earle Melough; a son, Kenneth Rogers of Independence; sisters, Margarette Thorpe and Dorothy Kiley, both of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was this morning at the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Helen Clare Christopher Smith, 66, of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a dispatcher with Roto-Rooter and a member of Christ Chapel Church, Florence.

Survivors include sons, Pat rick Smith of Ft. Thomas, Dave Smith and Leslie Smith, both of Latonia; a brother, John Christopher of Alexandria; sisters, Dorothy Hughes of Fairfax, Va., and Janet Capezzi of Sarasota, Fla; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke Hospital East Hospice Unit, 85 N. Grand Ave., Ft. Thomas, 41075.

Woodrow Wilson "Jigger" Smith, 84, of Corinth, died Monday at Columbia Hospital, Georgetown. He was a farmer and attended New Columbus Baptist Church. He also was a member of the farm bureau, and a member of Georgetown Ameri can Legion Post. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Wainscott Smith; a daughter, Tracie Perkins of Kettering, Ohio; a brother, Ernest "Buck" Smith of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sisters, Viola Lee of Scott County and Naomi Shivers of New Columbus; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Columbus Cemetery, Corinth. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund, Corinth 41010.
