Anna Louise Nichols, 73

Anna Louise Nichols, 73, La Grange, died Saturday, July 26, 2003.

She was born March 4, 1930, in Henry County, to the late Lorena Crawford and George Armstrong.

She was a homemaker and a member of the La Grange congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include two sons, William L. (Margie) Nichols Jr. of La Grange and Harold E. (Misty) Nichols of Buckner; two daughters, Carol L. and Donna L. Nichols of La Grange; granddaughter, Catherine Louise Nichols of La Grange; two brothers, George and William H. Armstrong of Eminence; five sisters, Mary E. Mullins of Campbellsburg, Margaret Goodloe of New Castle, Gracie Blackburn of Eminence, Geraldine Armstrong of Georgetown and Addie Hayden of Pleasurevillle.

Service were held graveside on Tuesday, July 29, at Valley of Rest cemetery in La Grange, with Kevin Markle officiating.

Visitation was held Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29, at Arch L. Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in La Grange.

William Jones Richardson, 88

William Jones Richardson, 88, La Grange, died July 25, 2003, at Norton Suburban Hospital.

He was born July 12, 1915, in Madison County, to the late Dora White and Jerry Richardson.

He worked on an assembly line at General Electric Company.

Survivors include a son, William "Bill" Richardson of Louisville; three brothers, Oscar and Paul Richardson of Louisville and Lawrence "Red" Richardson of La Grange; a sister, Frances Arterburn of Louisville; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Thomas Richardson.

Services were held graveside on Monday, July 28, at Valley of Rest cemetery in La Grange.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 27, at Arch L. Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tim Richardson, Robert Shrader, James Richardson, Kenneth Richardson, Martin Richardson and Paul Richardson Jr.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to the Agape Shop c/o Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mary Vaughn Smith, 72

Mary Vaughn Smith, 72, Milton, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

She was born July 2, 1931, in Carroll County, to Samuel and Ida Mae Melton Skirvin.

She was a homemaker and attended Milton Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Smith; her parents; and a daughter, Sue Ann Coghill.

Survivors include four daughters, Becky Wood of Bedford, Jan Pharis of Connersville, Ind., Cora Morris of Austin, Ind. and Martha Smith of Lexington, Ind.; three sons, Bill Martin of Nashville, Ind., Tony Martin of Versailles, Ind. and Randy Martin of Middletown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, July 29, at the Wood-Oakley Funeral Home in Milton.

Visitation was Monday, July 28 and Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial took place in Mt. Carmel cemetery.

Gloria Jean Johnson Swearingen, 58

Gloria Jean Johnson Swearingen, 58, La Grange, died July 20, 2003.

She was born April 5, 1945, in Boyle County to the late Lavinia McCormack and Clarence Johnson. She was a Baptist.

She worked as a custodian.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, James Swearingen of Louisville; two brothers, Benny Johnson of Jeffersonville, Ind. and Nathan Johnson of Danville.

Services were held Friday, July 25, at Arch L. Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in La Grange, with the Rev. Barry V. Williams officiating.

Visitation was held Friday, July 25, at the funeral home.

Burial took place in Valley of Rest cemetery in La Grange.

Pallbearers were Charles Woodson, Derk Colier, Joseph Key, Barry Williams, Nathanial Weathers and Rhonda Woodson.

Anglea Gay Thieneman, 35

Anglea Gay Thieneman, 35, Louisville, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

Survivors include her parents, William C. and Delores Thieneman; four sisters, Diane (Randy) England, Linda Ford, Sandra (Chuck) Bland and Mary Lou Browning; four brothers, Wayne (Audrey) Thieneman, Terry (Pam) Thieneman, Ronald (Debbie) Thieneman and Timothy (Susan) Thieneman; 18 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, July 26, at St. Clement Catholic Church.

Visitation was held Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25, at J.B. Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to Cedar Lake Lodge or Southwest Center for the Developmentally Disabled.

Fenton Lee 'Whitey' White, 87

Fenton Lee 'Whitey' White, 87, La Grange, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Norton Hospital.

He was born October 28, 1915, in Cleveland, Tenn., a home place he loved dearly.

He was a former employee of E.I. Du Pont and a self-employed building contractor for more than 55 years, in which time he constructed more than 100 homes in the Louisville and La Grange area. He was a devout Christian and a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Centerfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mildred, Elizabeth and Helen; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Jeffiers and son-in-law, A.B. "Skip" Newman.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ann Lee Alexander; three daughters, Peggy Ann (Kenny) Fortney of Pendleton, Charlotte Elaine Newman of Jacksonville, Fla. and Susan Lee (Bill) McIntosh of La Grange; five grandchildren, Elizabeth "Beth" Anderson, Ronald "Buddy" Minyard Jr., Belinda Newman (Jeff) Lott, Beverly Newman (Roger) Adkins and Brian Kendrick Fortney; eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth "Betsy" and Bridgett Jeffiers, Lori Gayle Grottenthaler, R. Bradley and C. Bekah Anderson, Brianna Elaine Bales, Brooke Lee and Blake Alan Adkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, July 26, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack Brewer officiating.

Visitation was held Friday, July 25, at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood.

Burial took place in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Bill McIntosh, Kenny Fortney, Buddy Minyard, Brian Fortney, Jeff Lott and Roger Adkins.

Honorary pallbearer was Blake Adkins.

Mary Evelyn Wiley, 86

Mary Evelyn Wiley, 86, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

She was the daughter of the late Herman and Callie Thurman Wiley.

She was a native of Franklin County. She retired from Bell South Telephone as a district clerk after 37 years of service and was a bookkeeper for nine years for Sower Hardwear Co. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Frankfort Business & Professional Women's Club, Frankfort Altrusa Club, Franklin County Senior Citizens and a Kentucky Colonel. She was a charter member of the Capital Church of the Nazarene, a Sunday School secretary, a pianist, music director and director of the church choir.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Lee Wiley, and a sister, Ruby Wiley Burdette.

Survivors include a sister, Clara Mae Wiley of Frankfort; three nephews, Keal Curran of Pewee Valley, Jason Lloyd of Jackson, Miss. and Todd Lassiter of Atlanta, Ga.; seven nieces, Ruby B. Poulter of Louisville, Mary B. Lassiter of Atlanta, Donna Curran of Pewee Valley, Patti Shinkle of Louisville, Bonnie Gernert of Pewee Valley, Kelly Lassiter of Atlanta and Callie Curran of Pewee Valley; and a sister in law, Ann Hockensmith Wiley of Pewee Valley.

Services were held Tuesday, July 29, at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel, with Brother Dennis Wyrick officiating.

Visitation was held Monday, July 28.

Burial took place in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Woodford cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keal Curran, Todd Lassiter, Tony Poulter, Carl Shinkle, Chris Shinkle, Jim Thomas and Donnie Zeitz.

Honorary pallbearers were Russ Bell, Lloyd Boler, Buddy Dalton, Doug Lafoe, Walter Flood, Paul Grimes and Bob Roe.

Martha Solomon Wolfe, 83

Martha Solomon Wolfe, 83, Louisville, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wolfe Dossett of Bartlesville, Okla. and Barbara Wolfe Schott of La Grange; a sister, Ruth Solomon Houff of Birmingham, Mich.; a brother, Henry K. Solomon of Louisville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held at Cave Hill cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Pearson Funeral Home.

William Robinson, 90

William Robinson, 90, of La Grange, died Friday, September 5, 2003, at Jewish Hospital, in Shelbyville.

He was originally from Booneville, Ind., and more recently from Louisville. He was a salesman for Therm-o-fax, and after retiring, an employee of the Red Cross in Louisville.

Mr. Robinson is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Robinson.

He is survived by his daughter, Gayle Ashlock, of Smithfield, and grandson, Danny Ashlock, of Somerset.

Mr. Robinson has donated his body to the University of Louisville's School of Science.

J.D. Crawford, 72

J.D. Crawford, 72, of La Grange, formerly of Shelbyville, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 in Louisville.

He was born March 17, 1931 in Irvine to the late Clayton Crawford and Mina Flinchun.

He was a an employee of Proctor Paving Company and a member of Moose Lodge No. 1715 in Shelbyville.

Survivors inlcude his wife, Mary Kathryne Brown Crawford; a stepson, Maurice Stephens of New Salisbury, Ind.; two brothers, James E. Crawford of Irvine and Vernon Crawford of La Grange; and three sisters, Lou Grillo of Simpsonville, Betty Snooks of Pendleton and Hazel Patrick of Irvine.

Services were Dec. 1 at Arch L. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home in La Grange with burial following at Valley of Rest cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harry Goldberg, J.C. Long, Robert Long, Maurice Stephens, Vernon Crawford and Lee Crawford.
