Shawn Lee McAlister, 24, of Carrollton, died Thursday at his home. He was a member of Faith Community Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include his parents, Carroll "Bimp" and Sheila McGuire McAlister of Carrollton; a brother, Shannon Wayne McAlister of Carrollton; grandparents, Bernice McGuire of Bedford, and Ike and Wanda McAlister of Carrollton; and great-grandparents, Lucille Long of Carrollton and Stella Oliver of Columbus, Ind.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Family Worship Center, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton, and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Gladys I. Metcalfe, 88, of Augusta, died Thursday at Extended Care Center in Augusta.

Arrangements are pending at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta.

Allen Mynatt, 68, of Edgewood, died at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired traffic manager with OK Trucking Co., and a past president of Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge 607, Dayton. He was a past president of the Bellevue Vets, Simon Kenton American Legion Post 20 in Elsmere, and Ushers Union Local 375. He was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Fleisch Mynatt; a son, Jeffrey B. Mynatt of West Chester, Ohio; daughters, Janie Mynatt of Covington, Julie Myers and Joanie Henderson, both of Edgewood, and Joyce Hughes of Ashland; a brother, Harvey B. Mynatt Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Eleanor Riddle of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Masonic services will be there at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge, 231 Sixth Ave., Dayton, Ky., 41074.

Hattie Peddicord, 99, of Williamstown, died 9:15 p.m. Thursday at Owenton Manor Health Care Facility, Owenton. Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

Vernon Lee Penick, 66, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at his home. He was a retired security guard with the Internal Revenue Service and a Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Webster Penick; sons, Matthew Penick of Dry Ridge, Louis Penick of Walton, and Vincent Penick; stepsons, Stacey Broadway and Dean Broadway, both of Northern Kentucky; a daughter, Rebecca Donahue of Falmouth; brothers, Hershel Penick, Gail Penick and Glenn Penick, all of Northern Ken tucky; sisters, Dixie and Rosalee, both of Northern Kentucky; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Webster Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.

Kenneth G. Pfetzer, 48, of Middletown, R.I., formerly of Covington, died July 21 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was a retired police officer and a Navy veteran of the Vietname War.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Pfetzer; a daughter, Amy Pfetzer of Middletown, Ohio; a son, Mark Pfetzer at home; his mother, Lucille Pfetzer of Covington; brothers, Mike Pfetzer of Edgewood, Mark Pfetzer of Cincinnati and David Pfetzer of Covington; sisters, Maxine Wells and Kim Pfetzer, both of Covington, and Connie Kleier of Villa Hills.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Christian Tabernacle, Newport. Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical Friends Church of Newport, 70 Bliss Mine Road, Middletown, R.I., 02842. O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home in Newport, R.I., is handling arrangements.

Ruth Ann Rowekamp, 67, of Newport, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a retired secretary with Ed Schadler State Farm Insurance Co., Covington. A son, Tom Rowekamp, died in 1985.

Survivors include her hus band, Jim Rowekamp; a son, Craig Rowekamp of Dayton; a daughter, Debbie Ann Morse of Little Rock, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Newport Elks Ladies Auxiliary ser vices will be there at 7:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky., 41042.

Pearl C. Sanning, 94, of Bellevue, died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired machine operator with American Book Co., and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue.

Survivors include a brother, Charles C. Rapp of Florence; and sisters, Estelle Sarran of Monroe, Ohio, and Betty Haggard of Florence.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the church, 318 Division St., Bellevue, Ky., 41073.

Richard W. Smith, engineer

Richard W. Smith was respected for his professional accomplishments, but just as much so for his character and devotion to his church.

"He was the kind of fellow you would like to have for a next-door neighbor," said Charles Meyers, who is a professional engineer, as Mr. Smith was.

Mr. Smith, 68, of Lakeside Park, died Sunday morning at his home.

He was retired as an engineer, and as vice president-general manager with Clow Corp. He also formerly owned the firm of Richard W. Smith and Associates, and Water Reclamation Inc.

"He retired from Clow in 1988 and from Water Reclamation about two years later. He sold the company more recently," said Mr. Smith's wife, Anita Sizemore Smith.

Mr. Smith was a past president of both the Northern Kentucky and the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, and a past director of the National Society of Professional Engineers. "He traveled extensively around the state and to Washington , D.C., a lot when he was national director," his wife said.

"He had the respect of people within the profession. He was a quiet, unassuming fellow, and did a lot with his church," Meyers said.

Her husband like to travel and visited Europe after retiring, Mrs. Smith said.

He also was an elder and chairman of the board of Florence Christian Church.

"He really enjoyed all he did, with engineering and with the church. He spent many, many hours with the church. He very much loved it," she said.

"He enjoyed people and loved doing things for them," she added.

Mr. Smith was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he saw combat, his wife said.

Other survivors include a son, Cary Smith of Lakeside Park; and a sister, Joyce Trautman of Kentwood, La.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Florence Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the church, 300 Main St., Florence 41042.

Anna Mae Bellm, 90, of Alexandria, died at 12:58 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a homemaker and a cafeteria worker with Campbell County schools. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Alexandria, and Ladies Auxiliary of Alexandria Fire Department. Her husband, Cletus Bellm, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Jack Bellm of Alexandria; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ, Main and Jefferson, Alexandria 41001.

Mona Elizabeth Brouhard, 91, of Phoenix, formerly of Harrison County, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of General Baptist Church in Glendale, Ariz.

Survivors include her husband, Walter A. Brouhard; a son, William Carl Wells of Melbourne; a daughter, Mildred Marie Stewart of Burlington; a sister, Orva Wilson of Harrison County; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Drake Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Arlena Weatherspoon Buchanna, 64, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a retired nurse's aide and a member of Second Baptist Church, Newport. Her husband, Samuel Buchanna, died in 1966.

Survivors include a daughter, Angela Mason of Covington; a son, James Weatherspoon of Covington; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Oshel J. Castro Sr., 93, of Falmouth, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a barber in Covington and Falmouth.

Survivors include a son, Oshel Castro Jr. of Falmouth; a foster daughter, Karen Wolke of Dry Ridge; a sister, Ethel C. Swick of Greebrook, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial was be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Falmouth Fire Department, 110 W. Shelby St., Falmouth 41040.
