Fred Buntin Hamby

Fred Buntin Hamby, 72, formerly of Princeton, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at 1:31 p.m. at the Muhlenberg County Hospital emergency room in Greenville, following a long illness.

A retired farmer and member of Second Baptist Church, he was born May 28, 1930, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Herbert Byrd and Hattie Elizabeth Driver Hamby.

Survivors include a brother, Floyd Hamby of Princeton; two sisters, Mary Louise Conger of Princeton and Lucille Jackson of Forest City, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Dr. Jerrell White officiated the service.

Burial followed in Fredonia cemetery.

Towery Drexel Curry Sr.

Towery Drexel Curry Sr., 59, of Providence, died Monday morning, Feb. 10, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

A retired coal miner, he was also a Kentucky Colonel.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Issacson.

Survivors include his wife, Edith J. Curry; two sons, Towery D. Curry Jr. of Princeton and Bradley Curry of Providence; three grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Witherspoon of Henderson and Eva Lou Bowles of Madisonville; and three brothers, Dennis Curry and Darrell Curry, both of Greenville, and Douglas Curry of Montrose, Mich.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at Melton Funeral Home in Providence with the Rev. Paul Ware officiating.

Burial will follow in White Oak cemetery at Clay.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jo Ann Lax

Jo Ann Lax, 47, of Kuttawa and formerly of Princeton, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 12:40 p.m. at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

A daughter of the late Alvin Lester and Edith Duncan Brandon, she was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Caldwell County and an employee of Bremner in Princeton in inventory management.

Survivors include her husband, Kerry Lax; two daughters, Jennifer Sherrill of Fredonia and Emmy Jo Cannon of Paducah; three grandchildren, Jacob, Kerry and Joshua Sherrill of Fredonia; a brother, Earl Brandon of Henderson; and a sister, Bonnie Brandon of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville with the Rev. James Sherrill, the Rev. Hank Cayce and the Rev. Ken Cummins officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Princeton.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, 898 Preston Bldg., Nashville, Tenn. 37232-6858.

Mrs. Marie Williams

Mrs. Marie Williams, 80, of State Route 293, Eddyville, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at 8:43 p.m. at her home.

A homemaker and member of Princeton Church of Christ, she was a daughter of the late Marvin D. and Grace Powell McGee.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul McGee.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, William E. “Bill” Williams; two sons, William H. “Bill” Williams and David Williams, both of Lyon County; two daughters. Charlotte Gregory and Beverly Dunning, both of Lyon County; five grandchildren; and a brother, James McGee of Lexington.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville. Larry Harris will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Saratoga Church cemetery in Lyon County.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gertrude Bendgen Woodward

Mrs. Gertrude Bendgen Woodward, 86, of Cranberry Township, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the home of her daughter.

A retired licensed practical nurse, she was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Brockwayville, Pa., a daughter of the late Fredrick John and Anna Catherine Van De Beuken Bendgen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Richard Woodward; two sons, Richard and W. Dennis Woodward; and a brother, Richard G. Bendgen.

Survivors include a son, Wesley Woodward of Harmony, Pa.; three daughters, Elizabeth Berton of Caldwell County, Kathryn Stone of Milbourn, Fla., and Linda Cooke of Jane Lew, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

A mass of christian burial is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church located on Rochester Road in Cranberry, Pa.

Burial will follow at Mt. Royal cemetery in Shaler Township, Pa.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home in Cranberry, Pa.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Lourdes Hospice.

Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of local arrangements.

Ruby Mae Poe Perrin

Ruby Mae Poe Perrin, 76, of Nortonville, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.

Born in Christian County on May 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Clifton and Zetta Terry Poe, she was a retired school teacher.

Survivors include a sister, Jenny Robinson of Princeton, and two nieces, Jennifer Proud of Louisville and Margaret Moorhead of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb 22 , at 1 p.m. at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville.

The Rev. J.T. Parish will officiate.

Burial will follow in Union Temple cemetery at St. Charles.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jeff Oliver

Jeff Oliver, 70, of Dawson Road, Princeton, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at 1:20 a.m. at Princeton Health Care Manor, following a long illness.

A retired police officer and member of the Princeton Church of Christ and Clinton Masonic Lodge #82, he was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Shellie C. Oliver, who died Aug. 2, 1972, and Mary Cummins Oliver, who died Aug. 6, 1974.

Survivors include a son, Jeffery Darrel Oliver; five daughters, Lisa Michele Oliver, Kimberly Kay Oliver, Jennifer Carol Caldwell, Sara Helton of Paducah and LaDonn Egbert of Lexington; two granddaughters, Rachel Francis Oliver and Brie Danielle Caldwell; a stepgrandson, Michael Key; a brother, Thomas “Jack” Oliver of Princeton; and a sister, Dimple Tosh of Lakeland, Fla.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Burial will follow in Oliver cemetery in Lyon County.

Visitation is set from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lorene Jackson

Mrs. Lorene Jackson, 90, formerly of Locust Street, Princeton, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at 4:05 p.m. at Princeton Health Care Manor, following a short illness.

A homemaker and member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late William and Nancy French Orange.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Jackson, in 1986; and a grandson, Randy Jackson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Elwood Jr. and Dorris Jackson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Johnnie Salyers and Lorene and Tommy Dixon, all of Princeton; six grandchildren, Dottie Bowles, Johnny Salyers, Jim Salyers, Linda East, Sherry Whiting and Ricky Dixon; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Harold Salyers officiating.

Burial will follow in Witherspoon cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clemmie Lander Boyd

Mrs. Clemmie Lander Boyd, 60, of Princeton, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at 12:11 p.m. at University of Louisville Medical Center in Louisville of natural causes.

Employed at Trice Hughes, Inc. of Princeton as a housekeeping technician, she was born April 9, 1942, in Trigg County, a daughter of the late Leslie H. and Winnie L. Sutfin Lander. A member of Shepherd Street Baptist Church where she sang in the adult choir, she was treasurer of the Missionary Society, was an original member of Circle #1, was a trustee, youth leader and was active in the monthly prayer breakfast, and also was a member of the Princeton Community Choir.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Earl Boyd; a son, Corey Boyd of Princeton; two daughters, Gloria Walker of Princeton and Charlotte Boyd of Drumfries, Va.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Leslie Lander and Donald Earl Lander, both of Cadiz, and Henry Julian Lander of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two sisters, Martha Ann Rogers of Indianapolis, Ind., and Rose Copeland of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Shepherd Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank L. Larkins officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Gamble Funeral Home in Hopkinsville is in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Earl Brantley

Rodney Earl Brantley, 57, of Henderson, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at 4:36 p.m. at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

A member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, he was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Madisonville.

He was preceded in death by his father, James O. Brantley, in 1964; and two brothers, David L. Brantley in 1992, and Joe Brantley in 2000.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Linda Hill Brantley; a daughter, Tracey Ezell of Henderson; his mother, Susan A. Brantley Morse of Providence; a granddaughter; a sister, Marceda Howell of Hopkinsville; a brother, Patrick Brantley of Providence; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson.

The Rev. Ted Burke will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Fernwood cemetery in Henderson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2601 U.S. Hwy. 60 East, Henderson, Ky. 42420.
