Zola L Wright, 57

Zola L. Wright, 57, of Kuttawa, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at 4:50 a.m. at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.

A daughter of the late Terry and Frances Haney Wright, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Wright; a sister, Terry Annetta Wright; and two grandchildren, Amber and Charlie Wright.

Survivors include a son, Charlie Wright of Kuttawa; a daughter, Terry Towery of Farmersville; four grandchildren; a brother, James Wright of Wheatcroft; and five sisters, Mamie Herndon of Kuttawa, Mary McVay of Lisman, Martha Jacobs of Fredonia, Frances Brinkley and Kathy Jones, both of Crayne.

Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Hill cemetery.

The Rev. Mickey Lewis officiated the graveside services for Ms. Wright.

Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville was in charge of arrangements.

Sammy O. Murphy, 96

Sammy O. Murphy, 96, formerly of Princeton, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at 9:28 a.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa, following a long illness.

A retired clerical worker at Caldwell County Hospital and of the Baptist faith, she was born Oct. 15, 1906, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Charlie S. and Docia Davis Overbey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C. Murphy, who died Feb. 13, 1978; and a brother, Roy S. Overbey.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m at Cedar Hill cemetery with Charles I. Overby Sr. officiating.

Morgan’s Funeral Home of Princeton was in charge of arrangements.

Everett Felker, 86

Everett Felker, 86, of Henderson, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at 7:28 p.m. at Methodist Hospital in Henderson, following a short illness.

An avid hunter and a member of First Baptist Church of Princeton, he was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Caldwell County.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Felker; his second wife, Louise Felker; and a granddaughter, Pamela Felker.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Felker; two sons, William Carroll Felker and the Rev. Roger Lee Felker, both of Caldwell County; five stepsons, Norman Winstead, Arnold Winstead, Roger Winstead and Billy Winstead, all of Webster County, and Doris Winstead of Louisville; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Roger Felker officiatied, assisted by the Rev. Bud Baird.

Burial followed in Beech Grove cemetery in Caldwell County.

Catherine Joiner Steger, 80

Mrs. Catherine Joiner Steger, age 80, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003. Catherine was born on Jan. 22, 1923, in Marion, Ky., the daughter of the late Harry B. Joiner and the late Pearl James Joiner of Princeton, Ky. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Princeton, a charter member of the Phi Beta Phi Sorority in Princeton, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Upon her graduation from Butler High School in 1940, Catherine attended Western Kentucky State College in Bowling Green, Ky. At Western, she met and later married Samuel Waggener Steger of Morganfield, Ky. They have been married for over 61 years and resided at 122 Highland Avenue in Princeton, Ky.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Samuel W. Steger, and two children: Samuel Joiner Steger and daughter-in-law Bonnie Stack Steger of Atlanta, Ga., and Marilyn Steger Frazar and son-in-law Brigadier General Joe N. Frazar III, USA (Retired) of Peachtree City, Ga. She has five grandchildren: Laura Steger Tebbitt and Elizabeth Steger, both of New York City, Joe N. Frazar IV of Savannah, Ga., Catherine Frazar Myers of Fort Mead, Md., and John Steger Frazar of Wayne, Pa. She has two great-grandchildren: James, age 5, and Maryellen, age 3, Myers. She is also survived by two sisters, Marquariette Joiner Foster of Memphis, Tenn., and Virginia Joiner Morris of Louisville, Ky., and five nephews and four nieces.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Princeton, Ky. Services will be held at Morgan’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at 10 a.m. Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Morgan’s.

Kelly Johnson Sullivan, 57

Kelly Johnson Sullivan, 57, of Fredonia, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at 9:57 p.m., at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, following a long illness.

A farmer and truck driver and member of Unity Baptist Church of Fredonia, he was born May 1, 1946, in Caldwell County, a son of Robbie Jennings Sullivan of Kuttawa and the late Clifton Franklin Sullivan, who died October 1986.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas Sullivan in April 1986, Charlie Sullivan in April 1994, and Russell Wayne Sullivan on Oct. 4, 1965; and a sister, Ada Kathleen Tosh, in December 1988.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Jo Ann Gray Sullivan; a son, Brian Hill of Caldwell County; two daughters, Lou Ann Sullivan of Fredonia and Mindi Gray of Lamasco; four grandchildren; a sister, Eva Miller of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Burial will follow in Liberty Church cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Willie Belle Roberts, 85

Mrs. Willie Belle Roberts, 85, of the Quinn Community of Caldwell County, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital, following a long illness.

A homemaker, she was born July 24, 1918, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late John Cleveland Horning, who died Nov. 21, 1958, and Eliza Stevens Horning, who died May 27, 1962.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosey Hampton Roberts, on Dec. 29, 1980.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Sandra Roberts of Caldwell County; two grandchildren, Craig Roberts and wife Karen of Caldwell County, and Lori Hays and husband Marty of Lyon County; three great-grandchildren, Megen and Chase Roberts and Chelsie Coleman; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Lindsey Hays; a brother, James Dudley Horning of Champaign, Ill.; and a sister, Mable Formanek of Detroit, Mich.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Mike Easley officiating.

Burial followed in Liberty Church cemetery in Caldwell County.

Robert C. Duncan, 70

Robert C. Duncan, 70, of Marion, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at 11:50 p.m. at his home.

A retired carpenter, he was a son of the late James Charlie and Mary Alma Duncan.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lynn Duncan; a grandson, Jonathan Robert Leslie; three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Duncan; a son, Marlon Duncan of Eddyville; two daughters, Sheryl Vickery and Lisa Leslie, both of Princeton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Duncan of Hobart, Ind., and Donald Duncan of Marion; three sisters, Mary Cloyd of Princeton, and Lucy Traywick and Eula Guess, both of Valparaiso, Ind.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. at Seven Springs Baptist Church.

The Rev. Robert Phillips and the Rev. Donnie Howton will officiate.

Burial will follow in Dycusburg cemetery.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to the funeral time at the church.

Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph R. Knoth, 61

Joseph R. Knoth, 61, of Kuttawa, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at 11 p.m. at his home in Kuttawa.

A member of Hopewell Baptist Church, a farmer as well as a retired agriculture teacher from Livingston Central High School after 27 years and presently employed at the U.S.E.C. Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, he was a son of Josephine Knoth of Kuttawa, and the late James H. Knoth, who died in 1995.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Bernice (Chris) Salyers Knoth of Kuttawa; a daughter, Laura Knoth of Grand Rivers; three sons, Lee Knoth of Kuttawa, Ryan I. Knoth of Hardin, and Rustin Matthew Knoth in the U.S. Army stationed in Italy; a grandson, Zachary Knoth; a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Knoth; three brothers, James D. Knoth of Benton, Roger A. Knoth and Charles B. Knoth, both of Kuttawa; and three sisters, Roberta Robertson of Kuttawa, Ramona Jeffries and Brenda Jeffries, both of Elizabethtown.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 25, at 4:30 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Burial followed in Macedonia cemetery.

Charles Bishop, 69

Charles Bishop, 69, of Princeton, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at 3:59 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital Emergency Room, following a long illness.

A retired heavy equipment operator and member of Shepherd Street Baptist Church, he was born March 5, 1934, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Cecil Bishop Sr. and Ruth Bell Bishop.

Survivors of Mr. Bishop include a daughter, Linda Clayton of Princeton; a friend, Ola Matchen of Kuttawa; three sisters, Nannie Campbell, Lucille Dillard and Lena Mae Grooms, all of Princeton; three nieces, Kammie Hunter, Debbie Copeland and Lorie Ford; and two nephews, Ron Hunter and Don Hunter.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home.

The Rev. Samuel Scott will officiate the service, assisted by the Rev. James Brasher.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Della Beckner, 68

Della Beckner, 68, formerly of Princeton, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at 5:15 a.m. at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, following a short illness.

A homemaker and member of Harrison Street Baptist Church in Princeton, she was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Ohio County, a daughter of the late Raymond and Lucy Dixon Grooms.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Springfield; and a daughter, Stacy Beckner.

Survivors include three sons, Wendell Springfield of Hopkinsville, James Springfield of Paducah, and Danny Springfield of Morton’s Gap; two daughters, Rechell Springfield of Columbia, S.C., and Stephanie Jones of Hopkinsville; 21 grandchildren; a companion, Robert Bacon of Hopkinsville; four sisters, Kay Grooms of Columbia, S.C., Nancy Barnett, Phebia Manning and Georgia Pepper, all of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Sept. 29, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. William Holland will officiate.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pauline D. West, 90

Pauline D. West, 90, a long-time resident of Morgantown, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Houston, Texas.

A member of the Morgantown First United Methodist Church and a 55-year resident of Morgantown, she was a retired teacher and administrator in the Butler County School System, who continued teaching until 1990 in the Parent and Child Education Program. In 1993, she moved to Houston, Texas, to be with her family.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Sarah Jane West; two grandsons, John A. West and fiance Nikki Morton, and Jason H. West and wife Sona; and a great-grandson, Jay K. West, all of Houston, Texas. Local survivors include two sisters, Sue Dycus and Robbie Mitchell, both of Princeton.

A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Morgantown First United Methodist Church.

Lucille Cotton, 88

Mrs. Lucille Cotton, 88, of Kuttawa, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at 12:48 p.m. at River’s Bend Retirement Center in Kuttawa.

A homemaker and member of Eddyville First Baptist Church, she was a daughter of the late Linn Herman and Hattie Lucinda Gresham Cummings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eural Cotton; a half-brother, Luther Oliver Jr; and two half-sisters. Louise Williamson and Mildred Warren.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Marilyn Cotton of Lyon County; a daughter and son-in-law, Daythel and Will Holt of Lyon County; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three half-sisters, Martha Keeling of Cincinnati, Ohio, JoAnn Oliver and Doris Hardin, both of Louisville.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville. The Rev. John Benton and the Rev. Norman Cotton Jr. will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Confederate cemetery in Lyon County.
