Russell L. Bow, 78

Russell L. Bow, 78, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.

Born Jan. 23, 1925, in Bow, near Burkesville in Cumberland County, he was a Methodist minister in the Louisville Conference for over 36 years. A member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, he graduated from seminary at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and was an associate pastor at Settle Memorial in Owensboro, followed by his first full-time pastorate in Woodlawn, also in Owensboro. He pastored at Preston Highway in Louisville, The Methodist Temple in Russellville, Ogden Memorial in Princeton, Trinity Temple in downtown Louisville, Bethany in Valley Station, Crescent Hill in East Louisville and Bennett Memorial in Henderson. He retired as a full-time pastor in 1987 to continue his Christian radio ministry and assisted with pastorates in Irvington, Grayson County and Wayne County.

He authored the book, “The Integrity of Church Membership,” published by Word Books of Waco, Texas, and also wrote several columns for state and local newspapers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Tyler and Lula King Bow; and a brother, Ralph Bow.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Roxie Bow; a daughter, Dr. Beverly Bow of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Michael Bow and wife Susan of Houston, Texas; a sister, Susie Anderson of Burgin; and a brother, Steve Bow and wife Kathy of San Diego, Calif.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown.

Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Memorial United Methodist Church or Kentucky United Methodist Home for Children.

Clifton Pratt "Furgie" Furgerson Jr., 76

Clifton Pratt “Furgie” Furgerson Jr., 76, of Evansville, Ind., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

A son of the late Clifton Furgerson Sr. and Sallie Clark, he was employed for 36 years at Koch Originals prior to retirement in 1991. A member of the protestant faith, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and making dulcimers.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hershel Furgerson, Jim Furgerson and Bradfield Furgerson.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Furgerson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clifton W. and Laura Furgerson and John and Lisa Furgerson, all of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nora Mildred Bowley of Evansville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville, Ind., with the Rev. Raymond Abbott officiating.

Burial will follow at New Salem cemetery in Nortonville.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to United General Baptist Church in Evansville, Ind.

Terry O'Malley, 50

Terry O’Malley, 50, of West Legion Drive, Princeton, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at 10:17 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital Emergency Room in Princeton of a sudden, apparent heart attack.

A Marine Corps veteran, truck driver for Trimac Transportation, member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Princeton, American Legion, Forty and Eight, he served five years on the Princeton Fire Department. Born Oct. 14, 1952, in Caldwell County, he was a son of Margaret Timmons of Eddyville.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Sherry Kim Ravia O’Malley; two sons, Joe O’Malley of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Brian O’Malley of Princeton; two grandchildren, Ian O’Malley and Savannah O’Malley; and three brothers, John O’Malley of Eddyville, Gerald Timmons of Evansville, Ind., and Todd Timmons of Hopkinsville.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. James Gray and the Rev. Clarence Cooper will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Princeton with military services to be conducted at graveside.

James Glenn White, 83

James Glenn White, 83, of West Bald Knob Road in Caldwell County, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at 12:58 a.m. at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville of injuries from a farm accident on Sept. 9 at his home in Caldwell County.

A World War II Army veteran, retired correction officer at Kentucky State Penitentiary with 25 years service and member and deacon of First Christian Church in Princeton, he was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Caldwell County, a son of the late James Thomas and Mary Ethel Morris White.

Survivors include his wife, Jennetta Lamb White; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Carolyn White of Caldwell County; a daughter, Melissa Fletcher of Caldwell County; four grandchildren, Melissa Downing, Amy White, Corey Fletcher and Jessica Fletcher; two great-grandsons, Lathan Capps and Evan Capps; a sister, Mary Lou Kyle of Caldwell County; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Cliff Jones will officiate the service.

Jess Haynes, 83

Jess Haynes, 83, of Princeton, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at 8:20 a.m. at his home, following a long illness.

A World War II Army veteran, retired commercial contractor, member of Ogden Memorial United Methodist Church in Princeton and Clinton Masonic Lodge #82 F&AM; in Princeton, he was born June 7, 1920, in Ballard County, a son of the late Marvin Clarence and Ada Mae Sullivan Haynes.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Haynes.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Jones Haynes; a daughter, Candace Pendergast of Mount Valley, Calif; a stepson, Boyd L. Williams of Key West, Fla; two grandchildren; a stepgrandson, Boyd E. Williams; four great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Haynes of Longview, Wash.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. David Alexander officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gary Childress.

Burial will follow in Old Bethel cemetery in Graves County near Water Valley.

Pallbearers will be Ron Crane, Mike Haynes, Nathan Haynes, Kip Dickmann, Jerry Jackson and Jack Kennedy.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Hollis Davidson, 53

Hollis Davidson, 53, of Eddyville, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Veterans Affairs Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

He was a son of Ester M. Driver of Golconda, Ill.; and the late Douglas C. Davidson.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Survivors in addition to his mother include a son, John L. Davidson of Paducah; three sisters, Teresa M. Stewart and Holly Davidson, both of Paducah, and Kendra Shell of Golconda, Ill.; two brothers, Fred W. Davidson of Princeton and Douglas Wilton Davidson of Paducah; and three sisters, Nellie Smith of Grand Rivers, Velvie Chapman of Golconda, Ill., and Linda Jensen of Brookport, Ill.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Smithland.

The Rev. Russell Joiner officiated the service.

Burial followed in Deer Creek cemetery.

Jerry Don Thomas, 65

Jerry Don Timmons, 65, of Calvert City, formerly of Between the Rivers, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at 6:05 p.m. at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Between the Rivers, Chairman of the Dickerson cemetery Committee for over 40 years, and a member of Joppa Masonic Lodge 167 in Eddyville. He was retired from C.C. Metals & Alloys in Calvert City and delivered flowers for the family-owned business, The Basket Case, in Calvert City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Effie Rogers Timmons; a daughter, Stacey Timmons in 1991; and two brothers, Leon and Dale Timmons.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Linda Rowland Timmons; a daughter, Joy Couch of Calvert City; two grandchildren, Jake and Keirsten Couch; a sister, Jean Murray of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville, officiated by the Rev. Roger Rice.

Burial will follow in Dickerson Between the Rivers.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Robert “Pokey” Powell, 69

Robert “Pokey” Powell, 69, of Princeton, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at 3:22 a.m. at Crittenden County Hospital in Marion, following a short illness.

A retired salesman for a car dealership, veteran and member of Calvary Baptist Church, he was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Dawson Springs, a son of the late Rufus Powell and Hester Franklin Flatt.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Aldridge Powell; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Gwen Powell of Central City; two grandsons, Austin and Devin Powell of Princeton; and a brother, Leon Powell of Princeton.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Rodney Wallace officiating.

Burial followed in Piney Grove cemetery.

Marvin Hunt, 66

Marvin Hunt, 66, of Marion, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at 4:50 p.m., at West Kentucky Veteran’s Center in Hanson.

A member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, he was a son of Mary Hunt of Marion and the late Eston “Buck” Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hunt.

Survivors in addition to his mother include a stepdaughter, Shannon Stout of Marion; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion.

Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles A. Ladd, 73

Charles A. Ladd, 73, of Princeton, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at 6:15 p.m. at his home suddenly of an apparent heart attack.

A former deputy sheriff and jailer of Caldwell County, a former Princeton police officer, who had worked at the Western Kentucky Toll Plaza and was former owner and operator of East Court Square Cafe in Princeton, he was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, Clinton Masonic Lodge 82 and Elks BPOE Lodge 115. Born June 16, 1930, in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Tilford Andrew Ladd, who died Oct. 15, 1982, and Iva Lou French Ladd, who died April 16, 1973.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Ladd and Tilford Elwood Ladd.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois Beck Ladd; two sons, Chuck Ladd of Lyon County and Kenneth Ladd of Caldwell County; a daughter, Cindy Oliver of Mayfield; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neal Ladd of Aiken, S.C., and Mike Ladd of Caldwell County; two sisters, June Rodman of Austin, Texas, and Mildred Perry of Caldwell County; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Jerry Oliver officiated, assisted by the Rev. Chuck Ladd.

Burial followed in Pool cemetery in Caldwell County.

Masonic services were conducted Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alyne Knight, 85

Alyne Knight, 85, of Princeton, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at 2:30 a.m. at her home, following a long illness.

A 60-plus-year resident of Louisville, retired bookkeeper and member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Louisville, she was born July 25, 1918, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late George and Mannie Hobby Boitnott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Knight Jr.; and a brother, Paul Boitnott.

Survivors include six cousins, Anna Dean Hammond, Kenneth Hobby, Marilyn Buntin, Lowell Hobby, Bill Hobby and Jimmie Wallace, all of Princeton.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. at Fairmont cemetery in Henderson.
