William F. Satterfield, 92

William Felix Satterfield, 92, formerly of Booth Avenue, Owensboro, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Wellington Parc of Owensboro.

Born March 2, 1911, in the Eddy Creek Community of Caldwell County, he was an engineer with South Central Bell Telephone Company. Retiring in 1976 with 41 years of service, he was active with the Kentucky Telephone Pioneers, serving on the Board of Directors and as President of both the active and retired organizations. During his presidency in 1959, the Pioneer Life Member Clubs in Bowling Green, Madisonville, Henderson and Owensboro were organized.

A member of Buena Vista Baptist Church for 60 years, where he was a Sunday School teacher, deacon and deacon emeritus, he also was instrumental in organizing Boy Scout Troop 70, Cub Pack 270 and Explorer Post 370 at Buena Vista, and served as institutional representative with the District Scout Council. Both of his sons and his grandson are Eagle Scouts.

He raised and trained bird dogs for more than 50 years, was active with Quail Unlimited, serving on the Board of Directors and the annual banquet committee of the Owensboro Chapter. A 60-year member of Owensboro Masonic Lodge 130, he was also a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Geneva Hughes Satterfield, in 1991; and a sister, Galena Rose Griffith, in 2001.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Hughes and Carolyn Satterfield of Birmingham, Ala., and Robert Guy Satterfield of Nashville, Tenn.; a grandson, William Hughes Satterfield Jr. of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; a granddaughter, Caroline Green Satterfield of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a nephew, Charles Michael Griffith of Princeton; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro, followed by graveside services and burial at 2 p.m. at Eddy Creek cemetery in Caldwell County with the Rev. Michael L. Rust officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Buena Vista Baptist Church, 119 W. 24th St., Owensboro, Ky. 42303 or the Boy Scouts of America.

Elva Mae McConnell, 78

Elva Mae McConnell, 78, of Caldwell County, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at 3:05 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital following an accident.

A homemaker and member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, she was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Cecil and Rosie Rustin Vinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Iley McConnell, in 1987; a granddaughter, Teka McConnell; two brothers, Ellis Vinson and Mitchell Vinson; and a sister, Mary Ellen Scott.

Survivors include two sons, James Iley McConnell and Larry McConnell, both of Fredonia; a daughter, Shirley Oswalt of Benton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lavine Rowland of Caldwell County and Linnie Ramey of Madisonville.

Funeral services for Mrs. McConnell will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Bob Lowery will officiate the service for Mrs. McConnell.

Burial will follow in Rowland cemetery in Caldwell County.

Frank Lee Sloan, 35

Frank Lee Sloan, 35, of Grand Rivers, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at 6 p.m. at his home.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Brumfield Miers of Grand Rivers; a brother, Cecil Burnett of Louisville; and two sisters, Trena Lay and Tonya Lay, both of Louisville.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.

The Rev. Mark Gill will officiate the service for Mr. Sloan.

Cremation will follow the service.

Visitation will be Wednesday and until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.

Rebecca T. Holland, 89

Rebecca T. Holland, 89, of Kuttawa, died Monday Feb. 9, 2004, at 1:45 p.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa.

A member of the Baptist faith, Mrs. Holland was a daughter of the late John and Bobbie Allison Coleman Tinsley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry “Tuney” Holland; and two brothers, John Tinsley and R.C. Coleman.

Survivors include a brother, Odell “Doc” Coleman of Eddyville; and a nephew, Craig Coleman of Eddyville.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Burial will follow in Rolling Hills cemetery.

Gene Alvis Sr., 61

Gene Alvis Sr., 61, of Marion, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 5:37 p.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Paul Alvis Jr. of Uniontown and William Joseph Alvis of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; a daughter, Patty Alvis of Uniontown; five grandchildren; and three brothers, Don Alvis of Marion, George Alvis of Uniontown and James Alvis of Calvert City.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion.

The Rev. Chris Reynolds will officiate the service for Mr. Alvis.

Burial will follow in Mount Zion cemetery.

J.C. Dunbar, 72

J.C. Dunbar, 72, of Princeton, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at 10 a.m. at his home of a sudden apparent heart attack.

An Army veteran, member of Northside Baptist Church and retired maintenance employee at SKW Alloys in Calvert City, he was born March 6, 1932, in Caldwell County, a son of the late James Harley and Virgie Mason Dunbar.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Faye Thomas Dunbar; and two sisters, Imogene Boitnott and Beatrice Blackburn.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James Michael and Vickie Dunbar of Smithland; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Michael Shane and Holly Dunbar of Smithland; and a granddaughter, Tia Kay Dunbar of Smithland.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Eric Lutz officiated the service.

Burial followed in Creekmur cemetery in Caldwell County with military graveside services.

Norman Earl Carroll, 68

Norman Earl Carroll, 68, of Henderson, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at 4:05 a.m. at his home in Henderson.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, the emergency manager for Henderson Co. from 1997-2001 and a member of the Audubon Realty Association after retiring as chief meteorologist in Evansville from 1980-1996, he was a son of the late Earl and Beulah Hyde Carroll.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Norvell Carroll.

Survivors include his wife, Christy Petermann Carroll; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Tammy S. Carroll of Newburgh, Ind., and Rob and Tammy E. Carroll of Henderson; five grandchildren; two brothers, Nelson Carroll of Eddyville and Charles Carroll of Burna; and three sisters, Margaret McCracken of Evansville, Ind., Jeanette Hammonds of Eddyville and Georgette Neu of Kuttawa.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Burial followed in Hickory Grove cemetery in Old Eddyville where military rites were held.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony’s Hospice, P.O. Box 351, Henderson, Ky. 42420.

Richard Blaine, 74

Richard Blaine, 74, of Grand Rivers, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at 11:05 p.m. at his home in Grand Rivers.

A retired heavy equipment operator from Local #520 Employers and Operators Engineers Union in Belleville, Ill., a member of Fullmoon Masonic Lodge #341 in Grafton, Ill., and a member of Grand Rivers United Methodist Church, he was a son of the late John Michael Jr. and Minnie Quarles Blaine. A 30- year resident of Godfrey, Ill., he and his wife retired and moved to Grand Rivers.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Carr, Roy and Harold Blaine; and a sister, Elizabeth Gray.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Inez Smith Blaine; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Stephan Bechtold of Jerseyville, Ill., Wanda Gail and Steven Walls of Mulberry Groves, Ill., and Brenda and David White of Pocahontas, Ark.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Forrest and Elizabeth Blaine of Grand Rivers; a sister, Betty Lou Lady of Benton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville.

The Rev. Harold Hatfield officiated the service for Mr. Blaine.

Burial followed in Dixon cemetery in Grand Rivers.

Sally Elizabeth Pendergrass, 97

Sally Elizabeth Pendergrass, 97, of Paducah and formerly of Kuttawa, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at 7:15 p.m. at her home in Paducah.

A member of Suwanee Furnace Baptist Church, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Sarah Yates Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her husband George “Jack” Pendergrass; a daughter, Virginia Goodwin; two brothers, Dixon Hamilton and Woodson Hamilton; and a sister, Leone Dooms.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Holt of Paducah and Betty Hearrin of Providence; a son, Wilford Pendergrass of Republic, Mo.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marzee Bailey of Eddyville.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at 3 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.

The Rev. David Brasher officiated the service.

Burial followed in Rolling Hills cemetery in Lyon County.

Mrs. Maudie Teague, 93

Mrs. Maudie Teague, 93, of Princeton, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Wanda Moore, following a long illness.

A retired assembly line worker at Arvin Industries, she was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Rufus and Necie Wilson Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denny Teague.

Survivors include a son, James Jackson of Caldwell County; four daughters, Wanda Moore and Nannie Mae Ward, both of Princeton, Ella McDaniel of Caldwell County and Rosie Thorning of Paducah; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Smith of Princeton.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Hank Cayce officiated the service, assisted by the Rev. Willard Walls.

Burial followed in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Lyon County.

Donna Maloney, 44

Donna Maloney, 44, formerly of Princeton, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at 8:55 p.m. at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville of injuries received in an automobile accident.

A homemaker, she was born March 31, 1960, in Wilmington, Del., a daughter of Mary Gladys Wise Rose of Johnson City, Tenn., and the late James J. Rose.

Survivors include a son, Shane Maloney of Clarksville, Tenn.; three daughters, Janice Maloney of Sturgis, Amy DeFew of Kuttawa and Terri Jo Heltsley of Sebree; four grandchildren;, Chelsea Meeks, Christin Meeks, Carli Meeks and Gabriel DeFew; a brother, Danny Mangan of Lenoir, N.C.; and two sisters, Janie Leman of Clarksville, Tenn., and Peggy Mowry of Baltimore, Md.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Burial followed in Princeton Memorial Gardens.

James Elwood Darnell, 60

James Elwood Darnell, 60, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., of natural causes.

A native of Cadiz, born Oct. 26, 1943, the son of the late Joseph Nuck and Lou Ella Dixon Darnall, he was a retired director of sales for Telcordia Technologies, an Army veteran and member of Hilldale Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Dixon Darnell; a son, Stephen W. Darnell of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Darnall and Irvan Darnall, both of Cadiz; and a sister, Addie Pearl Harris of Hopkinsville.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 6, at 2:30 p.m. at Hilldale Baptist Church. Rick Ezell and Larry Robinson officiated the service.

Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

The Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home in Clarksville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
