Mr. Norman Keith Harrison Jr., 53, of Lexington, KY and formerly of Madisonville died at 3:00 P.M. E.S.T. Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, KY.

He was born December 10, 1952 in Greenville, Ky.

He was a retired Federal Investigator for the U.S. Department of Interior, Office of Surface Mining. He was a member of Madisonville Second Baptist Church. He was a P.A.D.I. Certified Diver and past president of his neighborhood association.

He is survived by his wife, Renee’ Summers Harrison of Lexington, his mother and stepfather, Randy and Sue Harrison Osburn of Madisonville; his father, Norman Keith Harrison Sr. of Largo, FL; one sister, Karen Young of Earlington, KY and one brother, Kevin Harrison of Dixon, KY.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hendricks and Pastor Jerry Gifford officiating. Burial will follow in the ? cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Harrison, Cory Harrison, Jeff Hughes, Paul Wice,Jason Creasey and Needham “Bo” Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be George Pody.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and on Monday after 9:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of donations to your local Humane Society.

Mr. Joe T. Ratliff Jr.
Died: 04/13/2006

Mr. Joe T. Ratliff Jr. of Madisonville, KY died at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born in Hopkins County, Kentucky he was the son of the late Joe Ratliff and William Clyde Ashby Ratliff.

He was a retired draftsman and licensed surveyor for West Kentucky and Island Creek Coal Companies. He was also a retired antiques dealer.

He is survived by his wife, Zelda H. Ratliff of Madisonville; one daughter, Melicent Phelps of Madisonville; one son, Leif C. Ratliff of Madisonville; three grandchildren, Angela Moore, Greg Phelps and Joe T. Ratliff II; one step great grandson, Dylan Moore and one great-granddaughter, Angelica Graham.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to your preferred charity.

Mr. James Marion Townsell

Mr. James Marion Townsell, 102, of Nortonville, KY, died at 6:45 P.M. Thursday, April 13, 2006, at the home of his daughter in Nortonville.

Born September 26, 1903 in Hopkins County, KY, he was the son of the late Balias Belvie “Boss” Townsell and Mary Louise Cash Townsell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Stewart Townsell in 1986, one daughter, Ruth Helen Plumb, five sisters and two brothers.

He was a retired coal miner and farm worker. He was of the Baptist faith and an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by four daughters; Mary Agnes Gibson of Graham, KY, Rosie Lee Johnstone of Frankfort, KY, Susan Back of Nortonville, KY and Velmer Garrett of Slaughters, KY; seven sons, James Belvie Townsell, Paul Townsell and George Townsell, all of Nortonville; Robert Townsell and Johnny Townsell, both of Madisonville, Jack Townsell of Sebree, KY and Lucian Townsell of Providence, KY; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Salem cemetery in Mortons Gap, KY.

Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the services.

Mrs. Alta Mae Wells

Mrs. Alta Mae Wells, 93, of Earlington, KY, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 7:36 A.M., at NHC Healthcare in Madisonville.

Born September 24, 1912, in Butler County, KY, she was the daughter of the late J. C. Wenfrow and Rosae Bell Phelps Wenfrow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Edgar Scott in 1975 and Odio Wells in 1994; a daughter, Stella Rickard in 2004; a great grandson, Robert Johnson in 2004; three sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Wells was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Mae Rickard and Shirley Clevenger, both of Madisonville; a son, William “Buddy” Scott of White Plains, KY; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 7, 2006, at 11:00 A.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Mr. Roger Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Concord cemetery in White Plains.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7, from 9:00 A.M. until the service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Rickard, Larry Scholtz, Seth Spear, Danny Thorpe, Brian Baldwin, and Keith Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Thorpe and Paul Scott.

Mrs. Nell S. Hall

Mrs. Nell S. Hall, 80, of Madisonville, KY died at 4:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at her home.

Born August 28, 1925 ,in Christian County, KY she was the daughter of the late Ennis Alton Sizemore and Nealy Lorene Smith Sizemore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Woodson Hall on February 1, 1997.

She was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church, where she attended the Reg Armstrong Class and was also a member of Young at Heart. She taught in the Hopkins County School System for 28 years at Pride Ave Elementary School from 1958 until 1986. She was a member of the Hopkins County Retired Teachers Association, the Historical Society of Hopkins County, and the A.A.R.P. Local Chapter. She was co-owner and operator of the former Hall Printing Co. and co-founded with her husband, the Small Fry Baseball League and operated it from 1957 until 1971. She enjoyed reading., travel and pets; including her beloved Punkin.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Dale Baggett, Tennessee Ridge, TN; one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Ruth Hall of Evansville, IN; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Renee Michelle and Mark Chandler of Evansville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and on Friday from 12 Noon until the service.

Dick Adams

Richard “Dick” Adams, 63, former Kentucky State Senator, who was born and raised in Madisonville, Kentucky, died Monday April 3rd at his home. An avid outdoorsman, his passion for golf and fishing was never neglected. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his talented ability to tell a story. His dedication to his children and the community made lasting contributions for generations to come.

Dick graduated from Madisonville High School in 1961, received both a B.S. and J.D. degree from the University of Kentucky. He practiced law with Nichols & Nichols from 1968-1976 and in 1977 founded his own law firm in Madisonville. As an attorney in Hopkins County, he served as president of Hopkins Co. Bar Association, was Director of Workmen’s Comp. Ed. Inc., a Ky. Bar Foundation Life Fellow, and a UK Life Fellow. He was voted “Who’s Who” in American Law First Edition, served on the Board of Directors of First United Bank of Hopkins Co, and in 2005 he was inducted into the Hopkins Co. Democratic Hall of Fame. His community commitment was evident in his election to the Ky. State Senate, serving as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee from 1999-2002. He was admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Western and Eastern Divisions of Ky., the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

His parents, James and Jewell Adams, lifelong residents of Hopkins Co. and former owners of Dollars Brothers Shoe Store, preceded Dick in death. His four children, Elizabeth Noonan and her husband Richard, of Lexington, James “Chip” Edward Adams II and his wife Kathi, of Madisonville, Margaret Adams of Louisville, Julie Adams of Lexington, and his two grandchildren Sarah Jewell and Reid Noonan survive him.

Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville will conduct funeral arrangements with the visitation Wednesday from 4 – 8pm. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, and the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. The family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association, Kentucky Chapter, 2375 Fortune Dr., Lexington, KY 40509 or to the Browder United Methodist Church, 6948 Anton Road, Madisonville, Ky. 42431

Mr. Earl E. Sigler

Mr. Earlsie Sigler, 95, of Madisonville, KY died at 8:30 P.M. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born May 15, 1910 in Shady Grove, KY to the late Seldon Utley Sigler and Fannie Thomas Sigler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Kelley Sigler in 1994 and a grandson, David Earl Sisk in 1959.

He was a ham deboner for the Swift Meat Packing Company and a member of the First Baptist Church in Earlington, KY. He was also a member of the Providence Masonic Lodge #148 F&AM.;

He is survived by his wife, Iva Mae Sigler of Madisonville; two daughters, Shirley Jean Mooney of Madisonville and June Nadean Sisk of Sebastian, FL; three granddaughters and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Sellers officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, and from 12:30 P.M. until the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Susie R. Byrer

Mrs. Susie Byrer, 82, of Nebo, KY died at 1:25 P.M. Friday, March 31, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born March 16, 1924 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late Maurice Sisk and Betha Grable Sisk. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Franklin E. Byrer on March 4, 2003; two sisters, Margaret Sisk and Pearl Landis; three brothers, Dulin Sisk, Paul Sisk and Audry Sisk.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Silent Run Baptist Church; where she was a member of the W.M.U.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Delano of Nebo; one son, M.D. Byrer of Nebo; one brother, Morgan Sisk of Madisonville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Delano, Mike Delano, Josh Delano, Eric Delano, James Brewer and Tim Howard.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday and on Monday after 10:00 A.M. until the service.

Mrs. Mary Frances Wiggins

Mrs. Mary Frances Wiggins, 75, of Madisonville, KY died at 3:30 A.M. Friday, March 31, 2006 at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home.

Born July 25, 1930 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late Oits Ezell and Vida Mae Hoaglan Ezell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Wiggins on January 24, 2000, one sister and three brothers.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Madison Avenue Holiness Church.

She is survived by two sisters; Elora Sutherland and Patricia Ashby, both of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Richardson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday and on Monday from 8:00 A.M. until the service.

Mr. James F. "Jim" Lantaff

Mr. James F. Lantaff, 78, of Madisonville, KY, died at 7:06 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2006, at his home.

Born August 26, 1927 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late George and Greek Furgerson Lantaff. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ramona Dockery Lantaff and one 7 1/2 month old daughter, Teresa Diann Lantaff, who died on the same day of the month as Jim, March 30, 1958.

Although he was a printer by trade, he retired from York in 1989 as a quality controller. He worked for American Printing Company in Madisonville, The Evansville Courier and Press and Huebsch Originators. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 6 and the Madisonville Masonic Lodge # 143 F. & A.M.. He was a member of the Universalist Church in Beulah, KY.

He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Mona and John Hardison and Crystal Tyson of Madisonville, Shannon Lantaff and Fiancé, Jeff Vidal of Cadiz, KY; six grandchildren, Denise Hardison Levasseur and husband David of Pennsylvania, Brad Tyson and wife Ronna of Tennessee, Josh Gossett and wife Amanda, Lindsay Gossett and Bryce Owen all of Bowling Green, KY and Alex Owen of Madisonville; two great grandchildren, Braedyn Tyson and Rileigh Gossett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with Pastor Michael Knight and Chaplain George Thompson officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday and on Sunday from noon until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers will be the six grandchildren and grandson-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hardison, Jeff Vidal, Braedyn Tyson and Rileigh Gossett.

Masonic services will be at 7:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Green River Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eliza Jane Daugherty

Mrs. Eliza Jane Daugherty, 103 of Madisonville, KY died at 11:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born April 21, 1902 in Butler CO, KY she was the daughter of the late Robert John Daugherty and Rose Nell Snodgrass Daugherty. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer McKinley Daugherty on Oct. 22, 1988; two sons, Fern F. Daugherty and Homer B. Daugherty;two daughters, Veda and Thelma Daugherty; five sisters, nine brothers, one grandson, Stan Daugherty and one son-in-law.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Hazel Lynn of Owensboro and Jane and Richard Lepsch of Henderson; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Floy Daugherty of Madisonville; two daughters-in-law, Ruby Daugherty and Josie Daugherty; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Tondra Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow in the Hicklin cemetery. Pallbearers will he her grandsons.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the services.
