Mrs. Jan Janene Wygal, 64, of Earlington, KY died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at her home.

Born January 10, 1942 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late James Junior Jones and Guindella LaVerne Scott Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joe Wygal on April 9, 1995.

She retired as a school nurse for the Hopkins County School System. She was a member of the Salvation Army and the Madisonville Lions Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Joi Sigers of Owensboro, KY; one sister, Penny Baker of Louisville, KY and three brothers, James Jerry Jones of Ayden, NC, Thomas V. Jones of Madisonville and John R. Jones of Waukegan, IL and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Adcock officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the services.

Mr. Paul H. Devine

Mr. Paul H. Devine, 83, of Madisonville, KY, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at 7:45 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born November 5, 1922, in McLean County, KY, he was the son of the late Turner Devine and Lottie L. Kemble Devine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Devine, on October 18, 1999; two sisters, Charlice Tompkins and Dortha Duncan, and a brother, Guy E. Devine.

Mr. Devine was a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company and was a member of Lonestar Pentecostal Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in WWII, and was a member of the UMWA.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen Howard of Madisonville; two sons, Robert Devine and Lewis Devine, both of Madisonville; two sisters, Eula Eakins of Evansville, IN, and Grace Spriggs of Madisonville; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at 2:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Carpenter and Rev. Ronnie Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, March 20, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and from 12:00 noon until the service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Devine, Danny Spriggs, Tim Howard, Andy Devine, Melvin Sisk and John Hancock.

Mrs. Bobbie B. Whitfield

Mrs. Bobbie B. Whitfield, 84, of Madisonville, KY died at 6:35 A.M. Friday, March 17, 2006 at the NHC Healthcare.

Born August 5, 1921 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late Jasper Brown and Ruby Ray Qualls Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Whitfield on February 1, 2001; two brothers, William Brown and Gene Brown and one sister, Tempie Groves.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hanson United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean L. Wells of Hanson; one son, Joe K. Ligon of Venice, FL; one stepdaughter, Wanda Clayton of Alfred, FL; two stepsons, Wayne Whitfield of Atlanta, GA and Walter Whitfield of Missoula, MT; one sister, Betty Nance of Greenup, IL; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Carol Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the Grapevine cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday and after 11:00 A.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Hanson United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. Alma Jane Wilson

Mrs. Alma Jane Wilson, 81, of Madisonville, KY, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 12:30 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born March 8, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Barney Adams and Myrtle Dixie Smith Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Herschel Wilson and one brother, Edward Franklin Adams.

Mrs. Wilson had worked in patient accounts at Trover Clinic and was a member of the Mortons Gap Christian Church and the Women’s Circle at Madisonville First Christian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Nell Walker of Benton, KY, one son, Ronald Thomas Wilson of Madisonville; a sister, Joyce Preston of Headland, AL and five grandchildren, Allen Walker, Michael Walker, Brian Walker, Sean Thomas Wilson and Laura Elizabeth Wilson and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Grapevine cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Walker, Michael Walker, Brian Walker, Sean Thomas Wilson and Mike Tierney.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday and on Saturday from 8:00 A.M. until the services.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Western KY Autism Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. Lloyd Elmer Parker

Mr. Lloyd E. Parker, 86, of Madisonville, KY died at 12:22 P.M. Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born January 24, 1920 in Bond County, IL he was the son of the late George Elmer Parker and Nevada Pearl Cruchley Parker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ada Mae Hoffman Parker on February 14, 2001 and one sister, Elma Andrews.

He was a farmer and a member and elder of New Testament Christian Church of Central City, KY. He also worked in construction before retiring in Kentucky.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sharon Carman of Madisonville; five grandchildren, Kimberly Schiller of Liberty, MO, Todd Carman of Effingham, IL, Dawn Gower of Newburg, IN, Stanley Carman of Nashville, TN and Nathan Carman of Madisonville and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 17, 2006 at the New Testament Christian Church in Central City with Minister George Carman officiating. Private burial will follow Saturday in the Grapevine cemetery in Madisonville.

Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 17, 2006 at the New Testament Christian Church.

Mrs. Nannie B. Beshear

Mrs. Nannie R. Beshear, 97, of Madisonville, KY, went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2006 at 4:10 P.M. following a short illness. She died at her home.

She was born January 7, 1909 in Christian County, KY to Josephes and Virginia Vinson Russell. She worked at Brown’s Nursing Home. She and her husband were founders of the Gospel Temple Church in Princeton, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J. O. Beshear in 1962; a daughter, Mayme Heaton Beshear; a twin sister, Annie Dillingham; two stepsons, James Beshear and J. C. Beshear; two stepdaughters, Ressie Capps and Mable Brown and one brother, Everett Vinson.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances Beshear of Madisonville and Helen Gordon of Princeton, KY; a stepdaughter, Nancy Trevett of Rochester, NY; five grandchildren, John Beshear, Judy Gray, Debbie Dees and Tony Yates, all of Princeton and Lindsey Dees of Louisville, KY; seven great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and two nieces, Robbie Mitchell and Sue Dycus.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Hendricks and Bro. Danny Strader officiating. Burial will follow in McNeely cemetery near Dawson Springs, KY.

Pallbearers will be John Beshear, Tony Yates, Tommy Beshear, Timmy Beshear, Tyler Beshear and Brian Gray.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 9:00 A.M. Wednesday.

Mr. Roger Allen Lahr

Mr. Roger Allen Lahr, 65, of Earlington, KY, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at 1:00 A.M., at his home.

Born September 4, 1940, in Huntington, Indiana, he was the son of the late Henry Lahr Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Worford Lahr.

He was a U. S. Army veteran and had worked as an assembler at the Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center in Greenville, KY.

He is survived by a daughter, Starr Baucum-Combs of Madisonville, KY; a son, Ron Lahr of Slaughters, KY; a brother, Henry Lahr Jr. of Huntington, IN, and five grandchildren, Whitney Elizabeth Lahr, Cody Wayne Lahr, Bradley Edmond Crowder, Devyn Combs, and Camden Reed Lahr.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 2:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Taylor officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Ms. Christy B. VanCleave

Miss Christy B. VanCleave, 46 of Manitou, KY died Friday, March 10, 2006 in Webster County , KY.

Born January 3, 1960 in Henderson, KY she was the daughter of the late Royce Sharon Pence VanCleave who died March 10, 2002.

She worked on the line for Tysons Chicken Plant and was a member of the Christian Assembly.

She is survived by her father, Kenny VanCleave of Manitou, KY; one brother and sister-in-law; Ken and Karen VanCleave of Manitou; one nieces, Mary Beth VanCleave of Manitou and one nephew, Jesse VanCleave of Manitou.

Funeral services will held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mildred Ann "Midge" Pelikan

Mrs. Mildred Ann “Midge” Pelikan, 69, of Madisonville, KY died at 2:55 A.M. Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born February 23, 1937 in Earlington, KY she was the daughter of the late Maurice Shelby Brooks who died August 23, 1993 and Leota Eugenia Wicks Brooks who died March 16, 2000.

She was a bookkeeper and a member of the Earlington General Baptist Church. She was active in the Hopkins County Genealogical Society.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Sill of Cable, Wisconsin; two sons, Mike Pelikan of Berwyn, Illinois and Jonathan Pelikan of Atlanta, GA, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday and on Monday after 8:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
