Mr. Roy P. Wood, 82, of Madisonville, KY died Sunday, February 19, 2006 at the NHC Healthcare in Madisonville.
Born December 3, 1923 in Georgia to the late Roy Wood and Elva Parker Wood. He was also preceded in death by one son, John Wood in 2003.
He was a coal miner for Island Creek Fies Coal Mines and a Jehovah’s Witness.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wood of Madisonville; one daughter, Lisa Bacon of Hanson; one brother, John Wood of Marion, KY and one grandson, Joshua Bacon of Hanson.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Kingdom Hall with Mr. LeeRoy Jackson officiating.
Mrs. Mary Ruth Welles

Mrs. Mary Ruth Welles, 91, a long-time resident of Madisonville, KY, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at 9:30 A.M., at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY.
Born September 14, 1914, in Hopkins County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Willie Reynolds Branson, a prominent Hopkins County family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Welles and four brothers, Robert Branson, Strother Branson, Maurice Branson, and Coleman Branson.
Mrs. Welles was a dental technician for the late Dr. Don Draper of Madisonville. She was an accomplished pianist and soloist and was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (David) Pearce of Midway, KY; one sister, Nadine Turner of Murray, KY; four grandsons, David (Melanie) Pearce Jr. of Jackson, WY, Joe Pearce, Chris Pearce, and Wesley Pearce, all of Lexington, KY; and one great granddaughter, Riley Pearce.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 2:00 P.M, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Weyman McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in Grapevine cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church Choir. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mr. Jim Ashmore

Mr. Jim Ashmore, 61, of Madisonville, KY, died at 9:54 P.M. CST Friday, February 17, 2006, at University Hospital in Louisville, KY.
Born September 18, 1944 in Richmond, KY. He was the son of Robert Benjamin Ashmore and Virginia Price Ashmore and was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Ashmore was a member of First Baptist Church. He received a BS and Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and Business Administration from University of Kentucky. He was a Vietnam War Veteran having served as a 2nd LT. Engineer Officer in the Army. He was a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop # 1, a member of the Madisonville Lions Club, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and had served with several civic organizations and boards.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Workman Ashmore; his mother, Virginia Price Ashmore of Madisonville; two daughters, Sarah Witt of Columbus, TN and Ginny Ashmore with the US Air Force at Lackland A.F.B. in San Antonio, TX; two sons, Ben Ashmore of Grand Junction, CO and Keith Ashmore of Harrisburg, PA; one stepdaughter, Amy Cox of Princeton, KY; two stepsons, Steve Wheatley with the US Navy at China Lake, CA and Jim Wheatley of Owensboro, KY; one sister, Ginny Barnhart of Lexington, KY and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Don McLaughlin officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday.
Memorials may take the form of donations to Habitat For Humanity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Martha Gooch Waddill

Mrs. Martha Gooch Waddill, 89, of Madisonville, KY, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at 2:45 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born February 19, 1916, in Madisonville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Price Hardy Gooch and Halcye Henson Gooch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Beverly Berry Waddill on March 14, 1994.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. She graduated from Madisonville High School, Christian College in Columbia, MO, attended Western Kentucky Teacher’s College, and graduated from the University of Kentucky. She taught school for 30 years at Morton’s Gap, Grapevine, Waddill Ave. in Hopkins County, and Second Street School in Frankfort, KY.
Mrs. Waddill is survived by many loyal friends and former students.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 17, 2006, at 11:00 A.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may take the form of donations to the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Eula Mae Choate

Mrs. Eula Mae Choate, 86, of Nortonville, KY died at 2:13 A.M. Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born July 4, 1919 in Hopkins Co., KY she was the daughter of the late Thomas Richard Stallins and Jessie Birte Williams Stallins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Choate and two sons, Thomas Richard Choate and James Robert Choate.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church in Nortonville, KY.
She is survived by three daughters, Judith Sharon Fee, Martha Helen Foe and Wilma Joyce Bean all of Nortonville; one sister, Gloria June Stolf of Toledo, OH; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at the Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church with Bro. John Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and after noon on Friday at Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church.

Mrs. Clara Ezell, 91, of Madisonville, KY died at 12:37 A.M. Monday, February 13, 2006, at NHC Healthcare in Madisonville.
Born July 11, 1914 in Henderson Co., KY. She was the daughter of Bartie Brinkley and Pearlee Harris Brinkley.
Mrs. Ezell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester Ezell on September 25, 1971, one son, Donald Ezell, one sister, Vennie Allen and one brother, Joe Brinkley.
She was a member of Berean Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth Wayne Ezell of Madisonville; one sister, Bertha Kyle of Madisonville, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Gish officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 11:00 A.M. Thursday.
Mr. Ralph Logan "Papaw" Clark

Mr. Ralph Logan “Papaw” Clark, 70, of Mortons Gap, KY, died at 4:04 P.M. Sunday, February 12, 2006, at his home.
Born February 4, 1936 in Hopkins Co., KY. He was the son of the late Burley W. and Mary Jewell Kelley Clark. He was retired from MTS Construction Company. He was a member of Lone Star Pentecostal Church, Hwy 85, Madisonville.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary D. Tarpley.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Anna Ruth Littlepage Clark; one daughter, Gail Cates, one granddaughter, Brittany Cates; one grandson, Austin Cates, all of Mortons Gap; his caregiver, Mark “Markie” Littlepage of Madisonville; two brothers, Gene Clark and Shelby Clark, both of Nortonville, KY; four sisters, Joetta Davis and Mildred Gamblin, both of Nortonville, Ruthie Clark of Madisonville and Rhonda Richardson of St. Charles, KY, seven nieces and thirteen nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with the Revs. Andy Carpenter and Jeremy Forsythe officiating. Burial will be in Grapevine cemetery in Madisonville.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 9:00 A.M. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Littlepage, Jay Littlepage, Rodger Davis, Chris Clark, Michael Richardson and Jeffery Richardson.
Memorials may take the form of donations to Green River Hospice of Lone Star Pentecostal Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mr. Chlorus "Chub" DeVore

Mr. Chlorus “Chub” DeVore, 80, of Madisonville, KY died at 1:58 P.M. Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born May 24, 1925 in Deland, IL he was the son of the late Samuel Rauleigh DeVore and Mabel Filbina Hildebrand DeVore. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Helen Forbes in 1979 and one brother, James Samuel DeVore.
He was a production manager for Shulman Brothers Oil Company and a member of the Madisonville First Church of God. He was also an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife of sixty and a half years, Willa “Bil” DeVore of Madisonville; one daughter, Paulette Laffoon of Mt. Vernon, IN; two sons, Donald Richard DeVore of Cadiz, KY and Roger Dale DeVore of Versailles, KY; nine grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Robert White officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday and on Wednesday from 12 Noon until the services.

Mr. Bobby Wilson

Mr. Bobby Wilson, 73, of Madisonville, KY died at 2:00 A.M. Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.
Born December 7, 1932 in Madisonville, KY he was the son of the late James Wilson and Mary Ellen Walker Wilson Christian. He was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel Glenn Wilson, two brothers, John Wilson and Roy Wilson and one sister, Margaret Gordon.
He was a retired coal miner having worked for Peabody River Queen Mines and was a US Navy veteran. He was a member of the VFW Post # 5480 and the American Legion Post # 6.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Cartwright Wilson; two daughters, Denise Casares and Cindy Wilson, both of Madisonville; one son, Danny Wilson of Madisonville; two sisters, Modell Knox of Madisonville and Jonell Riggs of Trivoli, Illinois; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren .
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Father Joe Ashby officiating. Burial will follow in the Grapevine cemetery with Military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Cliff Wilson, Anthony Wilson, Charles Gordon, Jimmy Knox, Joey Omer, Ricky Wilson and John Ed Gordon.
Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
