Mrs. Shirley Ann Bailey, 55

Mrs. Shirley Ann Bailey, 55, of Princeton, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at 8 a.m. at her home, following a long illness.

A homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church, she was born July 29, 1949, in Christian County, a daughter of the late Henry Henderson and Annie Louise Lancaster Oliver.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Bailey; a daughter, Angela Stewart of Princeton; a stepson, Danny Bailey of Princeton, Ind.; a stepdaughter, April Renee Bailey of Fresco, Ind.; two brothers, Thomas Henderson and Johnny Henderson, both of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Rodney Wallace will officiate the service for Mrs. Bailey.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Princeton.

Dale Cortner, 60

Dale Cortner, 60, of Caldwell County, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at his home, following a long illness.

A retired farm manager for Roederer Correction Farm at LeGrange, member of Appaloosa Quarter Horse Association and National Associaton of Institutional Agribusiness, he was born Dec. 21, 1944, in Caldwell County, a son of William Francis and Mellodean Pierce Cortner of Caldwell County.

Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Cindy Williams Cortner; a son, William Lonnie “Chubby” Cortner of Princeton; two daughters and sons-in-law, DeAnn and Billy Gilkey of Louisville and Christy and Andra Jolly of Crestwood; two stepdaugthers and stepsons-in-law, Christy and Danny Skaggs of Louisville and Valerie and Dave Husband of Bedford; six grandchildren; a brother, Kenny Cortner of Princeton; a sister, Wanda Hart of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Duane Burden officiated the services for Mr. Cortner.

Mary Sue Jenkins, 77

Mary Sue Jenkins, 77, of Dawson Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at 1:55 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

A homemaker and member of the Christian faith, she was born May 5, 1928, in Hopkins County, a daughter of the late Clint and Opal Ligon Morgan.

She was preceded in detah by her first husband, Arnold Riggs; and a sister, Norita Morgan Workman.

Survivors include her husband, Maurice Jenkins; two stepdaughters, Cathy Pickett of Cadiz and Sherrie Pyburn of Rossville, Ga.; three stepgrandchildren; a sister, Joyce Ray McMillin of Princeton; and a brother, Gary Morgan of Dawson Springs.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. The Rev. Glenn Darnell will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Rosedale cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Morgan, Eddie Pickett, Jason Cansler, Tony Pyburn, Terry McMillin and David Kingery.

Curtis W. Gray, 80

Curtis W. Gray, 80, of Eddyville, and formerly of Nortonville, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at 1:20 a.m. at River’s Bend Retirement Community in Lyon County.

A World War II Navy veteran and member of the V.F.W., he was a son of the late Henry and Sarah Gray.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Venita Judd and Shirley Gray; a brother and sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Bugner of Evansville, Ind., Karen Gray of Eddyville and Susan Burkhart of Marion, Ill.; a son, Charles Gray of West Virginia; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A private memorial service will be arranged at the convenience of the family.

Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville is assisting with the arrangements.

Mrs. Lena Bogle, 93

Mrs. Lena Bogle, 93, of Caldwell County, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2006, at 6:30 p.m. at Tradewater Pointe Nursing Home in Dawson Springs, following a long illness.

A homemaker and member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, she was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Burley and Rosabelle Capps Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmon Bogle; three brothers, Willie, Lonnie and Hubert Kennedy; and three sisters, Goldie Bogle, Ida Miniscalso and Ollie Gorney.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeraldeen and Billy Cullen of Caldwell County; two grandsons, Barry Cullen of Webster County and Randy Cullen of Caldwell County; five great-grandchildren, Kami Duncan, Dustin Cullen, Matthew Cullen, Mason Cullen and Mallory Cullen; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Jo Duncan; three sisters, Ruby Hendricks of Madisonville, Marie Lincoln of Hopkins County and Blanche Towery of Caldwell County; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Felker will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Beech Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Bogle will be Ethan Duncan, Dustin Cullen, J.B. Bogle, Bruce Lincoln, Carrol Sisk and Tommy Bogle.

Charles P. Shaffer, 81

Charles P. Shaffer, 81, of Princeton and formerly of Crittenden County, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at 5:35 p.m. at Princeton Health Care Manor, following a long illness.

A retired mechanic from SKW in Calvert City, retired maintenance man for Princeton Housing Authority and member of First Baptist Church, he was born June 24, 1924, in Crittenden County, a son of the late Ben and Ann Spencer Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cathy Shaffer; a brother, Bennie Lee Shaffer; and a sister, Virginia Dunn.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary June Fletcher Shaffer; a son, John W. Shaffer of Princeton; two sisters, Shirley Allen of Owensboro and Margaret Cunningham of Paducah; a nephew, Randy Dunn; two nieces, Judy Dunn Belt and Shirley Dunn Crider; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Hughes will officiate, assisted by the Rev. J. Bill Jones.

Burial will follow in Mapleview cemetery in Marion.

Pallbearers will be Randy Dunn, Ryan Dunn, David Belt, Eddie Belt, Jeff Crider and Leroy Watkins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Richard Merrick, 70

Richard Merrick, 70, of Caldwell County, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at his home, following a long illness.

A member of Blue Spring Baptist Church and retired concrete finisher for Bernet Construction, he was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Caldwell County, a son of the late William Thomas and Mary Hazel P’Poole Merrick.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Archie Merrick; and a sister, Mildred Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Merrick; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Steve Barney of Omaha, Neb., Mary and Terry King of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Paula and Greg Hart of Anamosa, Iowa; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas Merrick and Randall Merrick, both of Caldwell County, James Merrick of Graves County and Don Merrick of Symsonia; six sisters, Aline Woods of Trigg County, Pearl Dixon of Henderson, Lillian Hale of Hopkinsville, Ellouise Mitchell of Caldwell County, Katherine Keefer of Maidens, Va., and Linda Harrell of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Jimmy Fuller will officiate the service for Mr. Merrick.

Burial will follow in Merrick cemetery.

Roy Allen Patterson, 68

Roy Allen Patterson, 68, of Topeka, Kan., died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at the VA Medical Center Nursing Home Unit in Topeka, Kan.

He was born July 18, 1937, in Princeton, a son of the late Shellie and Lillie Smith Patterson.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kan., his entire enlistment, and worked for Kansas Gas Service from 1965 until retiring in1993.

He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Princeton; Post #58 of the American Legion in Topeka; twice past master of Topeka Lodge #17 AF&AM;, Arab Shrine Temple and provost guard at the shrine, life member of the Topeka Valley of Kansas, Topeka Scottish Rite, York Rite, honorary member of Orient Lodge #51 AF&AM;, member and past patron of Topeka Chapter #462 OES, and life member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dean Patterson on March 12, 2003, and an infant son, Gregory Allen Patterson, on July 13, 1992.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Allen Patterson of Topeka, Kan.; three brothers, Donald Lee (Nadine) Patterson and Paul Wayne (Yvonne) Patterson, all of Princeton, and Kenneth Bailey (Ardeana) Patterson of Winchester, Tenn.; one niece; five nephews; and his ex-wife Rosalie Bearce of Topeka.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka, Kan. Interment with military honors will be held at Shawnee Center cemetery at Wakarusa, Kan.

Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 30, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Lodge #17, Arab Shrine Temple or to Kansas Cancer Institute at the University of Kansas Medical Center sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas, Topeka, Kan. 66608.

Mrs. Marian S. Young, 88

Mrs. Marian S. Young, 88, of Princeton, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at 9:25 p.m. at her home following a long illness.

A retired hairdresser and member of First Christian Church, she was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Denver, Colo., a daughter of the late Luther and Ocie Crowe Stallins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Young; and two brothers, Joel N. Stallins and James Harvey Barnes.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sara Young and John H. Hopper of Nashville, Tenn., and Jaye Young and James C. Wadlington of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, John Denton Hopper, Marian Katherine Jackson, James Christian Wadlington, Jane Claire Andrews, and Jaye-Anna Young Wadlington; four great-grandchildren, Sara Ann Hopper, John Denton Hopper Jr., Bradley Christopher Jackson Jr., and Patrick Harrison Jackson; a sister, Martha Jane S. Newsom; a beloved nephew, Charles Clinton Barnes of the home; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Cliff Jones will officiate the service for Mrs. Young.

Burial will follow in Lance Nichols cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Johnnie G. Haile, 88

Johnnie G. Haile, 88, of Dawson Springs, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at 12:17 p.m. at Tradewater Pointe Nursing Home in Dawson Springs.

A carpenter and member of Greenwood Community Church, he was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Allen and Dovie Orten Haile.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Haile on Sept. 27, 1990; a sister; and five brothers.

Survivors include a caregiver, Janet Baize; two sisters, Shirley Hogan of Princeton and Mary Prichard of Louisville; a brother, Kenneth Edward Haile of Dawson Springs; and several stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. The Rev. Bobby McKnight officiated the service.

Burial followed in CrossRoads cemetery in Caldwell County.

Teresa Michele “Terri” Grace, 45

Teresa Michele “Terri” Grace, 45, of Cadiz, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at 5:15 p.m. in an automobile accident at Clarksville, Tenn.

A homemaker and member of the Trigg County Baptist Church, she was born Sept. 12, 1960, in Hopkinsville, a daughter of Edward Elmo Hancock of Princeton and Barbara Ann Gamblin of Madisonville.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Louis Gamblin.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband of 24 years, Barry Grace; a daughter, Cayce Grace of Murray; three brothers, Michael Hancock of Providence, Kevin Gamblin of Madisonville and Brent Hancock of Princeton; and two sisters, Vicki Harrell of Owensboro and Kimberli Gamblin of Madisonville.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Trigg County Baptist Church in Cadiz.

The Rev. Larry Nichols and the Rev. Mike Rust will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in New Salem cemetery at Nortonville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at King’s Funeral Home in Cadiz and from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
