Joann Granstaff, 76

Joann Granstaff, 76, of Princeton, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006.

A daughter of the late Emmett and Annie Abbott McBride, she was born May 9, 1929.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Laurie Granstaff; two brothers, Lt. Col. George McBride and the Rev. Robert McBride; and a sister, Mary Walker.

Survivors include her husband, William B. Granstaff; a son, William Frank Granstaff; a brother, Dr. Frank McBride; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Princeton. The Rev. J. Bill Jones will officiate the service.

Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Cain, 56

Edna Cain, 56, of Princeton, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at 1:08 p.m. at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, following a long illness.

A nurses aide at a nursing home and member of First United Methodist Church of Princeton, she was born Nov. 28, 1949, in Louisville, a daughter of the late Son and Mary Louise Wimbleduff Cain.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Cain of Jacksonville, N.C., and Sam Cain of Princeton; two daughters, Jackie Cain of Princeton and Toni Cain of Hopkinsville; a foster son, Jackie Grooms of Princeton; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Cain of Louisville and Odell Brown of Hopkinsville; and a sister, Shirley Duncan of Louisville.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Sam Mathes will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Lola Markham, 87

Mrs. Lola Markham, 87, of Kuttawa, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at 7:20 a.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa.

A homemaker, lifetime member of Starlight Eastern Star Chapter #471 in Eddyville and Suwanee Furnace Baptist Church, she was a daughter of the late James Clarence and Lena Finley Duff.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Markham; five brothers, Herbert Duff, George L. Duff, James C. “Junior” Duff, Donnie Duff and T.C. Duff; and four sisters, Buena Duff, Ruth Gresham, Eunice Cook and Margie Duff.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Minnie and Glenard Thomason of Kuttawa; three grandsons, Jimmy Thomason of Bowling Green, Glenn Alan Thomason of Princeton and Sam Thomason of Kuttawa; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruby Allen of Paducah, Annetta Brooks of Evansville, Ind., and Wanda Peek of Grand Rivers.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville. The Rev. Curtis Harrell will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Macedonia cemetery in Lyon County.

Eastern Star services were held Tuesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Reece Phillip Clift Jr., 75

Reece Phillip Clift Jr., 75, of Portage, Mich., died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, unexpectedly at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Born Nov. 11, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., he retired from Ford Motor Company with 42 years, then worked at PICO and SMC automotive suppliers as a consultant. Following complete retirement in 2002, he and his wife moved to Estero, Fla., and back to Portage, Mich., in 2005 to be near their daughter and family.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Peggy Clift; daughter and son-in-law, Darcy Clift-Coon and Mike Coon; two grandchildren, Meacha and Riley of Portage, Mich.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Hilda June and Sharon and Tom Polgar of Lincoln Park, Mich.; a niece, Carrie Polgar of Lincoln Park, Mich.; and a nephew, Michael Polgar and his family of Brownstown Township, Mich.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, March 18, at 3 p.m. at Grace Bible Church, 15700 Leroy St., Southgate, Mich. 48195.

A second memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 4 p.m. at the Grace Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Fredonia with burial to follow in the Clift cemetery in Princeton.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Global Lifeworks, 3290 E. Spring St., Long Beach, Calif. 90806, or Teen HEART, 4200 W. Michigan, Kalamazoo, Mich. 49006.

Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel of Kalamazoo, Mich., is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Anderson Walker, 86

Harold Anderson Walker, 86, of Vallejo, Calif., and formerly of Caldwell County, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at Vallejo, Calif.

Born Feb. 28, 1920, at Cobb, a son of the late William A. and Mollie Perry Walker, he was combat systems quality and reliability assurance manager in the defense department in Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He was a World War II veteran. He joined the Navy in 1939, serving six years during World War II, in both the Pacific and Caribbean theaters. His ship was ordered out of Pearl Harbor just before the attack that launched the U.S. into World War II. He left the Navy in 1945 as a First Class Petty Officer.

He was active in many organizations including The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association (Associate Member), AAHMES Shriners, Veterans of Foreign Wars, TinCan Sailors Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Yount Lodge No. 12 of the Free & Accepted Masons of California, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32 degree.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Tuma Walker.

Survivors include four sons, Gregory N. Walker, Robert W. Kennard and William D. Kennard, all of Napa, Calif., and Kieth E. Tuma of Pollack Pines, Calif.; a daughter, Karen S. Kemmer of Post Falls, Idaho; and several grandchildren.

Graveside services with military rites will be held Tuesday, March 20, at 10 a.m. at Millwood cemetery. The Rev. Ronnie Fox will officiate the service.

There will be no visitation.

Barbara J. Cox Hunter, 73

Barbara J. Cox Hunter, 73, of Steger, Ill., died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007.

A daughter of the late Rodolph and Mary Bell Cox, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hunter; and a sister, Kathleen Wilkerson.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Terri Hunter of Crete, Ill., and Michael and Mary Hunter of Mokena, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Robert Cook of New Lenox, Ill.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Noel of Hopkinsville.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 3, at 11:30 a.m. at Smits Funeral Homes – Steger Memorial Chapel in Steger, Ill.

Burial followed in Skyline Memorial Park cemetery at Monee, Ill.

Mrs. Marjorie Beaupre, 95

Mrs. Marjorie Beaupre, 95, of Eddyville, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at 7:20 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.

A retired saleslady for J.L. Hudson Clothing Company in Detroit, Mich., and member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Eddyville, she was a daughter of the late Henry Charles and Rose Banda Puberfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leopold Beaupre; a brother, Henry Puberfield; and three sisters, Laura, Lillian and Margaret.

There are no immediate survivors.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Canada.

Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Sue Virgin, 73

Clara Sue Virgin, 73, of Dixon and formerly of Clay, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 12:35 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.

A member of Clay First General Baptist Church for many years, she was born April 7, 1933, in Wheatcroft, a daughter of the late Herman and Vera Haner.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Virgin in 1951, and Billy Virgin in 1972; and a brother, J.R. “Snuffy” Haner.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bill Virgin; a daughter, Teresa Sizemore of Madisonville; three sons, Bobby Virgin of Providence, Jimmy Virgin of Illinois, and Brian Virgin of Dixon; seven grandchildren, Reneé Campbell of Caldwell County, Laura Duvall of Greenville, Lisa Gentry, Miranda Jo and Eric Virgin, all of Providence; Susan Luche and Wanda Virgin, both of Illinois; eight great-grandchildren, Mikayla Campbell, Justin Gentry, Tyler Gentry, Jacob Duvall, Jeremy Duvall, Austin Luche, Damian Luche and Sarah Luche; a brother, Bill Haner of Dawson Springs; and a sister, Kemmie Brown of Sullivan.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. The Rev. Laddie Pride conducted the service.

Burial followed in Odd Fellows cemetery in Clay.

Roy Hazzard, 81

Roy Hazzard, 81, of Marion, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 7:19 p.m. at Crittenden County Hospital in Marion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Hazzard.

Survivors include a daughter, Pearl Swift of Eddyville; a son, Franklin Hazzard of Princeton; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Hodge and Patricia Wilson; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. The Rev. Roy Little, the Rev. David Winders and the Rev. David Vannatter officiated the service.

Burial followed in Sugar Grove cemetery.

Jeff Childress, 47

Jeff Childress, 47, of Princeton, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at 5:25 a.m. at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, following a short illness.

A plumbing contractor for BMAR & Associates at Hopkinsville and member of Northside Baptist Church, he was born Jan. 26, 1960, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Erve H. and Gladys Norine Oliver Childress.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Holly Childress; and a sister, Bonnie Dalton.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Childress Jr. of Caldwell County; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Betty Childress of Caldwell County; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Rod Thorpe of Eddyville and Connie Bartee of Princeton.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at Millwood cemetery in Caldwell County with the Rev. Gerald Cannon officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tim Thorpe, Jeffrey Childress, David Childress, Daniel Childress, Jason Crossett and Chuck Crossett.

Morgan’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lois Bruce, 71

Mrs. Lois Bruce, 71, of Morton’s Gap and formerly of Crittenden County, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at 6 a.m. at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, following a short illness.

An emblem assembly line worker at Shawnee Plastics and member of Suwanee Furnace Baptist Church, she was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Crittenden County, a daughter of the late Claud and Vada Oliver Fletcher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Bruce; and two brothers, Odell Fletcher and Wayne Fletcher.

Survivors include a daughter, Gina Groves of Nortonville; three grandchildren, Jeremy Stewart of Owensboro, Amanda Lee of Morton’s Gap and Heather Stewart of Earlington; three great-grandchildren, Sydney Stewart, Ethan Moore and Colten Moore; three sisters, Mary June Shaffer of Princeton, Norma “Penny” Rice of Hamilton, Ohio, and Dorothy Foster of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. J. Bill Jones will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Mapleview cemetery in Marion.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Foster, David Foster, Butch Fletcher, Kent Fletcher, John Shaffer and Jerry Rice.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ben Wesley Thacker, 54

Ben Wesley Thacker, 54, of Hopkinsville, died Monday, May 7, 2007, at 1:11 a.m. at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville of natural causes.

Born March 3, 1953, in Trigg County, a son of Rudy Neel of Nashville, Tenn., and the late Joe Thacker, he was formerly employed with Spears Janitorial Service.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Dorothy Ann Eison Thacker; two stepsons, Charles Edward Eison of Hopkinsville and Jeffery Eison of Princeton; a daughter, Benita Fryer of Hopkinsville; two stepdaughters, LaDina Davidson of Kansas City, Kan., and Lou Ann Ross of Atlanta, Ga.; God-daughter, April James of Hopkinsville; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Bobby Thacker of Hopkinsville and Arthur Thacker of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Hattie Mae Neeley of Hopkinsville and Helen Turner of Nashville, Tenn.; and a stepsister, Hattie Sue Davis of Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at the Gamble Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with the Rev. Caster Ike Eison officiating.

Burial will follow in Cave Springs cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour Monday at the funeral home in Hopkinsville.
