Gary C. Baker, 81

Gary C. Baker, 81, of Prin­ce­ton, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. at Western Kentucky Veterans Center at Hanson, following a long illness.

A World War II Navy veteran, retired manager of Kentucky Stone Company, and member of First Baptist Church, Princeton Elks and American Legion, he was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Christian County, a son of the late James and Gertrude Gary Baker,

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Brinton.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Crowder Baker; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Laura Baker of Owensboro, Bryant and Libby Baker of Charlotte, N.C. and Joe and Lisa Baker of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Gary Beth and Nicky Baker of Fredonia; nine grandchildren, Mary Beth Baker, Allen Baker, Maurine Allen, Greg Baker, Andrea Gutierrez, Emma Baker, C.C. Baker, Nan Baker and Olivia Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Bryant Allen and Cora Allen.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 3, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home.

The Rev. Tom Hughes will officiate.

Burial will follow in Hill cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to West Kentucky Veterans Center Activity Fund, 926 Veterans Dr., Hanson, Ky. 42413, or First Baptist Church Christian Life Center Fund, 300 W. Main St., Princeton Ky. 42445.

Jim Whitener, 74

Jim Whitener, 74, of Caldwell County, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at 10:24 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital Emergency Room, of a sudden apparent heart attack.

A retired truck driver at Smith Coal Co., Army veteran and member of Donaldson Missionary Baptist Church, he was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Louisville, a son of the late James Edward Whitener Sr. and Thelma Stevenson Whitener.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Engler Whitener; a son, Carl Whitener of New Albany, Ind.; two daughters, Judy Antle and Donna Blake, both of Louisville; two stepdaughters, Lannette Smith of Lyon County and Markita McCracken of Princeton; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel (Bob) Whitener of Louisville; a niece; and a nephew.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, July 2, at 1:30 p.m. at Meeks cemetery in Caldwell County with the Rev. Chris Turpin officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home prior to the service.

Eloise Porter Jacob, 92

Eloise Porter Jacob, 92, of Princeton, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at 7:14 p.m. at Bradford Heights in Hopkinsville, following a long illness.

A retired teacher, member of First Christian Church in Princeton, Kentucky Education Association, Caldwell County Retired Teachers Association, Caldwell County Historical Society, a volunteer at Princeton Art Guild and graduate of Murray State Teachers College, she was born May 1, 1916, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Mallory and Pearl Lindsay Porter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin A. Jacob; two brothers, David Porter and Robert Porter; and a nephew.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Al Herrera of Franklin, Tenn., Janie and Tommy Loyd of South Bend, Ind., and Margo and Mike Chadwell of Hopkinsville; six grandchildren, Bradley Herrera, Lindsay Herrera, John Michael Loyd, Laura Ausbrooks, Lynn Ashley Moore and Bethany Adler; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob Herrera, Brandon Ausbrooks, Brylee Loyd, Jena Loyd, Hannah Moore Mallory Moore, Alyssa Adler and Madelyn Herrera; three nephews; and a niece.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 3, at 11:30 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in Millwood cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Caldwell County Historical Society (Amoss House), P.O. Box 1, Princeton, Ky. 42445.

Elbert Egbert, 87

Elbert Egbert, 87, of Calvert City, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 1:30 a.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home at Kuttawa following a short illness.

A World War II Air Force veteran, retired forklift driver at SKW at Calvert City and member of First Baptist Church of Calvert City, he was born July 19, 1920, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Wesley and Leona Henson Egbert.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Prince Egbert; a daughter, Wilma Harmon; and three brothers, Roy Egbert, James Egbert and Albert Egbert.

Survivors include a son, Tony Egbert of Calvert City; a daughter, Martha Martin of Eddyville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Egbert of Caldwell County and Jack Egbert of Madisonville; a sister, Louise Kilgore of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 5, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home.

The Rev. Wayne Glass will officiate the service.

Burial with graveside military rites will follow at Eddy Creek cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carter L. Travis, 90

Carter L. Travis, 90, of Princeton, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 5:45 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital, following a short illness.

A retired metal finisher for Chrysler Corporation and member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and the Clinton Masonic Lodge #82, he was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Crittenden County, a son of the late James Ira and Oma Elizabeth Stinnett Travis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Faughn Travis; three sons, and three brothers, Lawrence Travis, Byron Travis and Vaughn Travis.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Vernon Travis and Loya and Ann Travis, all of Crittenden County; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 4, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Shoney Oliver officiating.

Burial will follow in Princeton Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Caldwell Springs cemetery Fund, Houston Peek, Hwy. 902 W., Fredonia, Ky. 42411.

Carrol Oliver, 66

Carrol Oliver, 66, formerly of Princeton, now of Cortland, Ohio, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at 2:05 p.m. at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio.

A retired inspector at General Motors, he was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Carrie Lee and Anna Lahoma Lewallen Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Oliver on Aug. 23, 2007, and two brothers, George Oliver and Roy Oliver.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Oliver and Bruce Oliver, both of Cortland, Ohio; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Oliver of Caldwell County and Frank Oliver of Dawson Springs; three sisters, Sylvia Cayce of Caldwell County, Elizabeth Hall and Mary Lou Porter, both of Copperas Cove, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 3, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

The Rev. Ricky Conger will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Jane Nichols cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

John Thomas Withrow, 74

John Thomas Withrow, 74, of Marion, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at 5:40 a.m. at Crittenden County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Marion.

A member of Mt. Joliet Masonic Lodge #642 and Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a son of the late Walter and Beatrice Bailes Withrow.

Survivors include two sons, Kent Withrow of Marion and Kevin Withrow of Watertown, Tenn.; a daughter, Karen Gregory of Nashville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Mary Jane Simoneaux of Pensacola, Fla., and Patricia Chapman of Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville with the Rev. Andy Yates officiating.

Burial will follow in Rolling Hills cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the funeral hour Friday at the funeral home.

Imani Shea’Antonique Cain, 8

Imani Shea’Antonique Cain, 8, of Princeton, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at 7:13 a.m. at Caldwell Medical Center, following a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 23, 2002, in Madisonville, a daughter of Antony Cain and Tenecia Killibrew of Hopkinsville and Leslie Faye Bumphus LaRue and Curt of Princeton, she was a second grade student at Caldwell County Primary School. She attended Calvary Baptist Church and Faith Weaver Friends, was a member of Sunshine Tuesday at Southside, and played Little League Basketball and Softball.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Clara and James M. Gray; and paternal great-grandmother, Edna L. Cain.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her maternal grandmother, Vickie Bumphus of Princeton, maternal grandfather, Melvin Gray of Princeton; maternal great-grandparents, Gayle L. and Sarah Copeland of Princeton; paternal grandmother, Jackie Cain of Louisville; paternal grandfather, Roger Hopson of Princeton; two brothers, Tyquan Bumphus and Xavier Bumphus, both of Princeton; two sisters, Anecia Cain and Akirsha Cain, both of Hopkinsville; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 13, at 1 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Ricky Wilson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Byron Copeland.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church.

Kurt Burris, 38,

Kurt Burris, 38, of Paducah, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 3:30 a.m. in Caldwell County near Fredonia, following a short illness.

Born Aug. 15, 1971, in Evans­­ville, Ind., a son of Barbara Ann Betz Lipscomb of Eddyville and the late Robert Walter Burris, he was a prep cook at Mother Duncan’s Restaurant.

Survivors in addition to his mother include a son, Kurt Austin Burris of Eddyville; three daughters, Ashley Marie Burris of Eddyville, Kurtlynn Cheyanne Burris of Hopkinsville and Mackenzie Cartwright of Marion; a brother, Robert Allen Burris of Marion; a sister, Angela Dawn Burris of Riverview, Fla.; two nieces; and two nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Thursday, March 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Fredonia cemetery with the Rev. Gary Murray officiating.

Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton was in charge of arrangements.

Royce Earl East, 52

Royce Earl East, 52, of Dawson Springs, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at 3 a.m. at his home.

Born March 31, 1957, in Cook County, Ill., a son of the late William Edward and Betty Joe Bowers East, he was an individual support staff member for Res-care, Inc.-Outwood for the past 11 years and previously worked for Caldwell County Hospital. A member of the Baptist faith, he liked reading, working with computers and cooking and in the past worked with CB radios.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Lee.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Polly East; a daughter and son-in-law, Bethany Sue and Keith Reed of Lexington; three sisters, Barbara Sue Joslin and husband, Tommy, Nancy Ramey and husband Buddy and Brenda and husband Mickey Mason, all of Princeton; and four brothers, Richard Tony Hamilton of Cadiz, Clyde East, Edd and wife Debbie East, and Tim and wife Linda East, all of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs with the Rev. Joe Farless officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Joyce M. Darnell, 68

Joyce M. Darnell, 68, of Princeton, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at 9:50 p.m. at Caldwell Medical Center, following a short illness.

Born June 6, 1941, in Hopkins County, a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Malester Mae Driver Gaines, she was a member of the Assembly of God and was a caregiver for the elderly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Lee Darnell; three grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Estes.

Survivors include two sons, Barry Darnell of Owensboro and Danny Darnell of Madisonville; a daughter, Lori Orange of Princeton; six grandchildren, Jody Darnell, Megan Stanley, Bronzson Lane, Lauren Goodbread, Lacy Goodbread and Tara Darnell; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Gaines and Darrell Gaines, both of Hopkins County; and a sister, Linda Keller of Caldwell County.

Graveside services for Mrs. Darnell were conducted Monday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Ilsley cemetery in Hopkins County.

Morgan’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
