George H. Sprowles, 79

George H. Sprowles, 79, of Regency Court in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Louisville, Ky.

Son of the late Carl Sprowles and Maggie Spurling Sprowles, he was born on July 17, 1924 in Taylor County, Ky.

Sprowles was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.

He was a recipient of the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star and several other awards.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a retired installation and maintenance supervisor at G.T.E.

He was married to Margaret Walker on Aug. 31, 1946. She preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 1972.

He later married Francis Russell on Sept. 1, 1973. She survives.

Other survivors include five children and their spouses, Eddie and Vickie Sprowles, Bobby and J.J. Sprowles, Mike and Joyce Russell, Lana and David Helm and Steve and Linda Russell, all of Campbellsville; six grandchildren, Shana Crabtree, Dana Dudgeon, Bridget Cox and Isaac Russell, all of Campbellsville, Brian Helm of Taylorsville, Ky., and Trevor Sprowles, who's in the U.S. Air Force; one great-granddaughter, Molly Crabtree; and one brother-in-law, Richard Sublett.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Frances Sublett; and one brother, Lewis Carl Sprowles.

Funeral was on Tuesday, June 8 at First United Methodist Church in Campbellsville, Ky. The Rev. James H. Loy officiated. Burial was in Brookside cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry Caldwell, Harold Cruse, Melvin Douglas, Wendell Hughes, Jerry Kearney, Jim Sabo, Manuel Sapp and Marshall Whatley.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Upper Room Sunday School Class and G.T.E. employees.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Vina E. Stotts, 87

Vina E. Stotts, 87, of Columbia, Ky., died on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia.

Daughter of the late J.C. and Julie Ann Brown Spoon, she was a member of Old Concord United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

She was married to Arvest Lester Stotts, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1995.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Arlis and Martha Stotts of Columbia and Steve and Sharon Stotts of Fairplay, Ky.; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosetta and Gary Samuell of Glensfork, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one grandson.

Funeral will be on Tuesday, June 8 at 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia with the Revs. Sam Burris and Elbert Hadley officiating. Burial will be in McClister cemetery at Fairplay.

Pallbearers are Christopher Samuell, Shawn Samuell, Kevin Stotts, Mark Stotts, Phillip Stotts and Ricky Stotts.

Honorary pallbearers are Amon Spoon, Alvin Spoon, Lester Spoon, Wendell Spoon, Sammy Stotts and David Stotts.

Ezra Louis Sweeney, 91

Ezra Louis Sweeney, 91, of Green County, Ky., died on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his home.

Son of the late Ira Lewis Sweeney and Flora Pierce Sweeney, he was born on Sunday, July 28, 1912, in Oldham County, Ky.

Sweeney was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a retired employee of Kentucky Trailers.

He was married to Lizzie Edith Beauchamp on May 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1983.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Donnie and Wilma Sweeney and Mardell and Sydney Hagan, all of Greensburg, Ky.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Ricky and Gaye Jones of Glasgow, Ky., Donna and Travis Warren of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Jennifer and Jimmy Hagan of Greensburg, Ky.; and four great-grandchildren, Bethany York, Jessica York, Jordan York and Evan York, all of Glasgow.

Funeral was on Tuesday, June 8 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. The Rev. Charlie Warren officiated. Burial was in the Jones cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers were Ricky Jones, Jimmy Adkins, Jordan York, Travis Warren, Harvey Beauchamp and Darrell Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were employees of Hospice of Central Kentucky, Dr. Wiedler's office staff, Family Home Heath, Taylor County Cancer Clinic and Dr. Phil Aaron's office.

Edward Howard Warf Sr., 80

Edward Howard Warf Sr., 80, of Green County, Ky., died on Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Hospice Care Unit in Louisville, Ky.

Son of the late Caffrie Warf and Nellie Perkins Warf, he was born on Monday, June 18, 1923, in Green County, Ky.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the James L. Pruitt VFW Post #5813, a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124 and he was a retired truck driver for J&J; Trucking.

He was married to Mary Lee Settles on Aug. 3, 1955. She preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina Pugh and Theresa Crum, both of Louisville; two sons, Edward H. Warf Jr. and Dale Warf, both of Louisville; two step-sons, John Edward Legler of Indiana and Thomas Wayne Legler of Louisville; one sister, Esther Wiley of Campbellsville, Ky.; one brother, Odeen Warf of Louisiana; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Warf and Elmo Warf.

Funeral was on Tuesday, June 8 at Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Burial was in the Warf cemetery with military rites conducted. Bros. Carlos Compton and Leon Jones officiated.

Pallbearers were members of the James L. Pruitt VFW Post 5813.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124.

Marshall A. Webb, 82

Marshall A. Webb, 82, of East First Street in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Medco Nursing Home in Campbellsville after an illness.

Son of the late Thomas and Mary Willis Franklin Webb, he was a member of East Side Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Webb; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger A. and Harriett Webb of Morocco, Ind.; one daughter, Marsha Webb of Campbellsville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Eva Marie Pappas; four brothers, Alton Webb, Golden Webb, Cecil Webb and Roy Webb; and three sisters, Ruby Tungate, Justine Judd and Maxine Lyons.

Funeral was on Friday, May 28 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel in Campbellsville. Burial was in the Green River Memorial cemetery with military honors by the DAV in Lebanon.

The Rev. Ivan Jones and Rev. George P. Lee III officiated.

Pallbearers were Aaron Webb, Bobby Webb, Roger Webb Jr., Thomas Pappas, Bronson Gowdy and Allan Holmes.

Janet Michelle Graybeal, 35

Janet Michelle Graybeal, 35, of Reids Chapel Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Monday, June 14, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Daughter of Gary Pepper and Brenda Wright Montgomery of Campbellsville, she was born in Taylor County, Ky., on March 30, 1969 and was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church. She was an employee of Cox Interior.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her step-mother, Mary Pepper of Campbellsville; her step-father, Calvin Montgomery of Campbellsville; two children, Kayla Michelle Perkins and George Eric Perkins, both of Campbellsville; three sisters, Dana Withrow of Campbellsville, Leann Rahill of Bowling Green, Ky., and Gidget Warren of Columbia, Ky.; and her grandmother, Sybil Lee Pepper of Columbia.

Funeral is today, June 17, at 11 a.m. at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home. Larry A. "Fella" Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Dustin Harrison, Jeff Pierce, Bob Rahill, Brett Underwood, Gary Wright, Jay Wright, Mark Wright and Mike Wright.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Beams, Adam Bland, Joshua James, Andy Perkins, Todd Perkins, Charles Underwood, Wayne Underwood and Gary Wright.

Deborah "Tina" Johnson

Deborah "Tina" Johnson, 48, of Campbellsville, died on Friday, June 18, 2004.

Daughter of the late Leonard Johnson and Marie Dawson, she was born on Oct. 18, 1955.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang with The Voices of FBC, was part of the Brazilian Mission Team and Kitchen Ministry.

Survivors include three daughters, Ladana Williams and Andrianna "Angie" Johnson, both of Louisville and Brandi B. Johnson, of Campbellsville; eight brothers, Lynwood Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind., Donnie Ray Johnson of Lebanon, William L. Johnson of Elizabethtown, Boyce Johnson, Paul Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Daniel Johnson and Jeff Todd Johnson, all of Campbellsville; two sisters, Catherine Johnson and Cynthia Johnson, both of Campbellsville and two grandchildren, Frederick E. Williams III and Destiny Johnson, of Louisville.

Funeral was at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23 at First Baptist Church.

The Rev. George P. Lee III officiated. Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery. Buchanan-Robinson & Purcell Funeral Home in Campbellsville was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Clemon Bell, Wayne Groves, Kenny Bridgewater, Billy Mitchell, Karo Gowdy and Sherman Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers were Albert Bell, Mike Bell, Charles Bell, Tony Bell, Dave Bell, Nate Cubit, Henry Lee Bell, Sinclair, Mark Bell and James Wilson.

Rosa Clark, 85

Rosa Clark, 85, of Columbia, Ky., died on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky., after an illness.

Daughter of the late Edward C. and Laura Elmore Johnson, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a retired real estate agent and a homemaker.

She was married to Elmo Clark, who survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Foster Wooten and Elmo Clark Jr., both of Houston, Texas, and Garland Wooten of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Hazel Thomas of Russell Springs, Ky.; two special nieces, Irene Groce and Geneva Lee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles Clark.

Funeral was Friday, July 2, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. The Rev. William R. Davenport officiated. Burial was in Haven Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers were Doug Lee, George Farmer, Eric Coomer, Jimmy Clark, Stephen Wooten and Robbie Wall.

Alice Ramsey

Alice Ramsey, 88, Somerset, Ky., formerly of Columbia, Ky., died on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

She was the daughter of the late Everett and Lucille Bell McGaha Beard, and was a homemaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Sue Burton of Columbia, Margaret Emerson of Whiteland, Ind., Betty Jo Mitchell of Franklin, Ind., and Katy Lou McQueary of Campbellsville; two sons, Ronnie Lee Ramsey and Robert Eugene Ramsey; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three daughters, Ave Marie Burton, Linda Lee Ramsey and Upetuna Bottoms.

Funeral was at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial was in Columbia cemetery. Bro. Larry Brown officiated.

Pallbearers were Dwayne Burton, Glenn Burton, James Haselwood, Osby Karnes Jr., and Kenny England.
