Avis Christie, 74

Avis Christie, 74, of Green County, Ky., died on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, Ky.

Daughter of the late Isaac Berry and Rosa Pepper Berry, she was born in Green County on Sept. 9, 1929. She was a member of Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and elder. She was a teacher for 38 years until retirement in 1985. She was also a member of the Rook Club.

She married James H. Christie on Sept. 2, 1955. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1990.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann Rose and Leon Lewis of Columbia, Ky.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lori Christie of Campbellsville; one sister, Norma Jean Swafford of Campbellsville; and four grandchildren, Christopher Lewis and LeAnna Lewis, both of Columbia, and Maci Christie and Hunter Christie, both of Campbellsville.

Funeral was Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Greensburg cemetery.

Pallbearers were Daniel Taylor, Rodney Berry, Bill Taylor, Daryl Berry, David Taylor, Ray Berry, Jim Taylor and Walter Swafford.

Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Lewis, LeAnna Lewis, Hunter Christie, Maci Christie and Duval Hay.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Michael Dean Dial, 32

Michael Dean Dial, 32, of Green County, Ky., died on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

Son of Luther and Brenda Patterson Dial of Green County, he was born in Greensburg, Ky., on March 27, 1972. He was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and a former employee of Cox Interior in Campbellsville.

In addition to his parents, survivors include one son, Andrew Blake Dial of Summersville, Ky.; one daughter, Leah Shae Dial of Summersville; one brother, Luther Wayne Dial of Summersville; two sisters, Malinda Buley and Renea Dial, both of Summersville; and his grandmother, Lena Harmon Dial of Summersville.

Funeral was Saturday, Aug. 28 at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Darrell Hensley and Lloyd Dial officiated. Burial was in Holly Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Dial, Wesley Dial, Jeremy Dial, Jamie Eads, David Wayne Armer, Jason Murray and Earl Dial.

Honorary pallbearers were J.B. Berry, J.D. Arnett, Bobby Berry, Billy Patterson and Jamie Young.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Liberty Missionary Baptist Church.

Cleoda 'Dodie' Durham, 61

Cleoda "Dodie" Durham, 61, of Fallen Timber Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville after an illness.

Son of Alberta Williams Durham of Campbellsville and the late Albert Durham, he was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church and the United States Armed Forces, having served with the United States Army. He was also an employee of Fruit of the Loom for 12 years, having worked in the knitting department.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Janet Chanelle and Godfrey Jackson of Campbellsville; one son, David Craig Durham of Louisville, Ky.; one grandson, Jeremiah Jackson of Campbellsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Sule and Joan Durham of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mable and Ken Fisher, Anna Margaret Durham and Mary Durham, all of Campbellsville.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Grissette.

Funeral was Sunday, Aug. 22 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Caldwell officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Union Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Leon Payton, Titus Curry, James Durham, Kenneth Durham, Darnell Arbet, Greg Arbet, Marcus Fisher and Demetri Durham.

Honorary pallbearers were the Rev. Calvin Chaffin, George Atkinson, George Miller, Frank Ford, Dave Ford, Tom Ford, Mott Ford, Dick Ford, Ken Fisher and Steve Grissette.

Flower girls were Dorothy Ford, Dana Fisher, Helen Ford and Diana Childs.

Lyon-Dewitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Homer Lewis Edwards, 66

Homer Lewis Edwards, 66, of Alexandria, Tenn., died on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Son of the late Boyce and Rosie Edwards, he was born in Green County, Ky., on May 27, 1938, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He was married to Helen Walker, who survives.

Survivors also include three sons and one daughter-in-law, the Rev. Kelvin and Karen Edwards of Greensburg, Ky., Steve Edwards of Murfreesboro and Tim Edwards of Alexandria; one daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Keith Garnett of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Della and Dan Broady of Cave City, Ky., Katie and Gary White of Charleston, Ind., and Betty Parrish of Georgetown, Ky.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlos and Rita Edwards of Paris, France, Wayne D. and Beverly Edwards of Greensburg, Billy G. and Diane Edwards of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Jimmy D. and Sherry Edwards of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday, Aug. 21 at Alexandria Baptist Church.

Memorials may take the form of donations to Gideon Bibles and may be made at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria was in charge of the arrangements.

Anna Giles, 93

Anna Giles, 93, of Millerfield, Ky. died at 10:42 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Metzmeier Nursing Home in Campbellsville, Ky.

Daughter of the late Acel and Laura Barrett Roberts, she was a member of Millerfield Brethren In Christ Church and a homemaker.

She was married to Edgar Giles, who preceded her in death on July 23, 1988.

Survivors include three sons, Hershey Giles of Knifley, Ky., John Harold Giles of Columbia, Ky. and Hansford Giles of Hillsville, Va.; one brother, Edward Roberts of Columbia; one sister, Nellie Bryant of Columbia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Brawner on Nov. 26, 1992.

Funeral was Friday, Aug. 27 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Greensburg. Bro. J. Richard Lehman officiated.

Burial was in Caldwell Chapel cemetery in Knifley.

Pallbearers were Stewart Greer, Tony Giles, Eddie Giles, Charles Neat, James Ralph Roberts and Wilbur Scott.

Margaret Janes Gumm, 59

Margaret Janes Gumm, 59, of Elizabethtown, Ky. died at 1:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, after an illness.

Daughter of Maymie Page Janes and the late Delbert Janes, she was a member of United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown and worked at Executive Inn West Hotel in Louisville.

She was married to Larry Joseph Gumm, who survives.

Survivors also include one daughter, Kimberly Hope Campbell of Elizabethtown; one son, Mark Allen Campbell of Elizabethtown; one brother, Noah Janes of Hodgenville, Ky.; and five grandchildren, Candace Campbell, Patrick Allison, Paige Allison, Cheyenne Stivers and Joey Pridham.

Funeral was Friday, Aug. 27 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, Ky.

Bro. Ralph Hadley officiated. Burial was in Gumm cemetery in Summersville, Ky.

Pallbearers were Patrick Allison and the Gumm brothers.

Lillian Bale Johnson, 83

Lillian Bale Johnson, 83, of Forrest Avenue in Campbellsville, Ky. died at 1:58 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Daughter of late Guy M. Bale and Cora Whitlow Bale, she was born in Green County, Ky. on Feb. 28, 1921.

She was a librarian and educator for 43 years, serving in the Campbellsville Independent School System for 35 years.

She was married to Woodrow Johnson on March 12, 1939. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1969.

Survivors include two brothers, Earl Bale of Louisville, Ky. and Benny W. Bale of Hodgenville, Ky.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Bale.

Funeral was Friday, Aug. 27 at Campbellsville Baptist Church.

The Rev. Skip Alexander officiated.

Burial was in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church cemetery.

Vera Lobb Stoner, 83

Vera Lobb Stoner, 83, of Green County, Ky., died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg, Ky.

Daughter of the late Lloyd Mars and Nettie Florence Judd Mars, she was born in Green County on Dec. 24, 1920. She was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church and James L. Pruitt Post 5813 V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She was married to Woodson Lobb, who preceded her in death.

She later married Ray Stoner, who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Lobb of Summersville, Ky.; one daughter, Diane Brown of Greensburg; two sisters, Sybil Kennedy of Hodgenville, Ky., and Audrey Schmitz of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Bill Mars of Greensburg; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; eight great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Shirldeen Lobb; one sister, Edna Lobb; and four brothers, Arvil Mars, L.C. Mars, Howard Mars and Edison Mars.

Funeral was Sunday, Aug. 29 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. The Revs. Gary Landis and Carlos Compton officiated. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Dennye Lee Lobb, Mark Kennedy, Mark Lobb, Mike Lobb, Jimmy Jones and Darren Beard.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Jane Todd Crawford Auxiliary.

Edward Harrison Martin, 91

Edward Harrison Martin, 91, of Campbellsville, Ky., formerly of LaRue County, Ky., died on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

Son of the late William Douglas and Viola Skaggs Martin, he was a member of Union Band Baptist Church in Howardstown, Ky., and was a retired farmer.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Edna Van Cleave of Campbellsville and Virginia Lois Martin of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two sons, James E. Martin of Elizabethtown and Russell Martin of Hodgenville, Ky.; six sisters, Nannie Metcalf and Jennie Perkins, both of Hodgenville, Lona Perkins of Elizabethtown, Linda Milby and Dorothy Burba, both of Louisville, Ky., and Florence Whitson of New Albany, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sunday, Aug. 29 at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville. Burial was in Red Hill cemetery in Hodgenville.

Mazetta Lile Meadows, 87

Mazetta Lile Meadows, 87, of Green County, Ky., died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Ky.

Daughter of the late Tony Lile and Louella Curry Lile, she was born in Green County on Sept. 27, 1916, and was a member of Little Barren Separate Baptist Church.

She married Carl Buford Meadows on July 22, 1937. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1989.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Ronnie Holston of Green County; one brother, Doodle Lile of Green County; one sister, Elsie Matney of Green County; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy Holston of Campbellsville, Ky., and Alisha Shofner of Greensburg; four step-great-grandchildren; and a special great-niece and caretaker, Melissa Judd Brown of Greensburg.

Funeral was Monday, Aug. 30 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. The Revs. Eudell Stilts and Meryl Young officiated. Burial was in Greasy Creek cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Compton, Houston Ervin, Wayne Thompson, Doyle Edwards, Lile Thompson and Grady Thompson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the family fund and can be made at the funeral home.

Hobert S. Price, 63

Hobert S. Price, 63, of Louisville, Ky. and formerly of Taylor County, Ky. died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 in Louisville.

Son of the late Leslie Price and Cora Martin Price, he was born in Taylor County, Ky. on May 28, 1941. He was a member of Zion Separate Baptist Church.

He was married to Gwen Jones, who survives.

Survivors also include one daughter, Bonnie Koerner of Louisville; one son, Jeremy Price of Louisville; four grandchildren, Jessica Koerner, Scotty Koerner, Jaimie Koerner and Jeremy Price, all of Louisville, four sisters, Dorothy Chappel, Louise Hash, Cedell Cox and Ella Berry, all of Louisville; and three brothers, Eugene Price, Donald Price and Elgin Price, all of Louisville.

Funeral was Friday, Aug. 27 at The Southern Home of Arch L. Heady and Son in Louisville.

Burial was in Louisville Memorial Gardens West Mausoleum.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association.
