Fred Louis Miller Sr.

Fred Louis Miller Sr., 77, of Blue Hole Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, in Hodgenville, Ky.

Son of the late Fred Joseph Miller and Ethel Hahn Miller, he was born in New Port Richey, Fla., on Jan. 16, 1927. He was a member of St. Adain's Episcopal Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired pharmacist and minister.

He was married to Virginia Miller of Michigan Center, Mich. She survives.

Survivors also include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and William Burke of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Lois Miller of Virginia Beach, Va., and the Rev. Fred "K.J." and Renee Miller of Campbellsville, Ky.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral was Thursday, Sept. 2 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Revs. Fred Miller Jr. and Michael Goodwin officiated. Burial was in Brookside cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barry Blevins, Darrell Hunt, Greg Hunt, Bob Netherland, George M. Phillips and Eddie Sprowles.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Hunt, Larry Hunt and Roy Pritchard.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.

Virginia Marie O'Banion

Virginia Marie O'Banion, 83, of Green County, Ky., died on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at her home.

Daughter of the late Ernest Thompson and Oga Curry Thompson, she was born in Greensburg, Ky., on Dec. 26, 1920. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, where she taught the adult women's Sunday school class and was a former teacher at Thompson Schoolhouse in Green County.

She married Jimmie O'Banion on April 12, 1941. He survives.

Survivors also include two daughters and one son-in-law, Martha Dale and the Rev. Jerry Judd and Laney Jones, all of Green County; four grandchildren, Jimmie Judd of Summersville, Ky., Jackie Estes, Stephanie Scott and Joey Jones, all of Green County; eight grandchildren, Ashton Estes, Danielle Scott, Berlyn Judd, Kaitlan Estes, Blake Scott, Reilly Judd, Keaton Estes and Hailey Paige Scott, all of Green County; one brother, Rual Thompson, of Horse Cave, Ky.; and one sister, Glenda Brown of Sulphur Well, Ky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Merrill Thompson, Dale Thompson and Allen Thompson.

Funeral was Saturday, Sept. 4 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. The Revs. Jim Collison and Jerry Judd officiated. Burial was in New Salem cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Scott, Scott Estes, Jimmie Judd, Joey Jones, Twyman Lobb and Loy "Mann" Jones.

Honorary pallbearers were Wilburn Bonta, Steve Pickett, Wendell Wright, Bill Bonta, Donnie Price, Mike Davis and Hobert Moran.

Randall Allan Pruitt, 43

Randall Allan Pruitt, 43, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Campbellsville, Ky., died on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 in Indiana.

Son of William and Carolyn Pruitt of Campbellsville, he was born in Fort Belvoir, Va., on Oct. 19, 1960. He was a member of Harbour Shores Church and was operations manager for Ball State Student Center in Indianapolis.

He was married to Shanti Pruitt, who survives.

Survivors also include one son, Matthew Pruitt of Indiana; one daughter, Sarah Pruitt of Indiana; one brother, Bruce Wayne Pruitt of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and his grandmother, Marjorie Callison of Campbellsville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Josie Pruitt and George Callison.

Funeral was Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Harbour Shores Church in Noblesville, Ind. Pastor Don Jennings officiated. Burial was in Crownland cemetery.

Randall and Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville, Ind. was in charge of the arrangements.

James Raikes, 52

James Raikes, 52, of Bradfordsville Road in Mannsville, Ky., died at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Campbellsville, Ky.

Son of the late Bendock Raikes and Maude Bright Raikes, he was born on July 1, 1952 in Jefferson County, Ky. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He married Sharon Stayton on July 14, 1972. She survives.

Survivors also include one daughter, Jessica Raikes of Mannsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan David and Tiffany Raikes of Casey Creek, Ky.; one granddaughter, Lexi Renee Raikes of Casey Creek; three sisters, Peggy Bright, Ivy Roberts and Gayle McNear, all of Campbellsville; and two brothers, Billy Mattingly of Campbellsville and Jimmy Raikes of Bradfordsville, Ky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Chloe Elaine Raikes.

Funeral was Saturday, Sept. 4 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Dean Cooper officiated. Burial was in Old Liberty cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donald Raikes, Frankie McNear, Donnie Richerson, Johnny Wiser, Robert Ray Wiser, Willie Wiser and Larry Wright.

Gordon Rainwater, 67

Gordon Rainwater, 67, of Martin Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died at 2:47 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Son of the late Ras Rainwater and Lillian Ford Rainwater, he was born in Taylor County, Ky., on Sept. 22, 1936. He was a member of Bowman Street Separate Baptist Church, had served in the U.S. Army, was retired from Kentucky Cooperage and was a member of American Legion Edwards-O'Banion Post 82.

He married Sandy Cave Rainwater on Dec. 29, 1981. She survives.

Survivors also include one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Ann and Gordon Caldwell of Campbellsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Jr. and Amber Rainwater of Georgetown, Ky.; three step-children, Sheree Sweeney and her husband Mike and Kenneth Agee, all of Campbellsville, and Michael Ray Spear of California; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Rainwater of Knifley, Ky., and J.D. Rainwater and Billy Rainwater, both of Campbellsville; and four sisters, Madeleine Cave, Helen Sharp, Lula Mae Bell and Barbara Skaggs, all of Campbellsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Rainwater; and one sister, Rose Sprowles.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Bro. Matthew Lawhorn will officiate. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers are Jamie Cave, Jimmy Cave, Dennis Rainwater, Johnny Rainwater, Timmy Rainwater, Mike Sweeney, Shawn Sweeney and Josh Wise.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.

James Rooks Jr., 76

James Rooks Jr., 76, of Shelia Drive in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville after an illness.

Son of the late James William and Carrie Redman Rooks of Adair County, Ky., he was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom.

He was married to Jean Rooks, who survives.

Survivors also include one daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Kevin Handy of Greensburg, Ky.; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judy Humphress of Campbellsville; two grandchildren, Justin and Jonathan Handy; three step-grandchildren, Kristy Nelson, Jessica Kimbler and Ashley Humphress; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Travis Rooks of Tennessee; and one sister, Maxine Cobb of Mount Washington, Ky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Foster and Kathryn Bradshaw.

Funeral was Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel in Campbellsville. Clifton Hale officiated. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Kevin Handy, Matt Hunt, Jay Kimbler, Hearl "Pig" Roberts, Robert Bohanon and Ronnie Barnett.

Velma Shofner, 79

Velma Shofner, 79, of Sprowles Ridge Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died at 1:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Daughter of the late Dee Underwood and Nora Jones Underwood, she was born in LaRue County, Ky., on May 18, 1925, and was a member of Zion Separate Baptist Church.

She married John B. Shofner on Feb. 14, 1946. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1979.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Garnett Durham and Helen and Larry Sprowles, all of Campbellsville; one son and daughter-in-law, J.C. and Juanita Shofner of Campbellsville; six grandchildren, Robin Brussell of Elizabethtown, Ky., Tracy Cambron, James Sprowles, Barry Sprowles and Johnny Durham, all of Campbellsville, and Tammy Carter of Stanford, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Peyton Cambron, Emily Sprowles and Katelyn Carter; two sisters, Mae Murphy of Louisville, Ky., and Annie Allen of Hodgenville, Ky.; and two brothers, William Eugene Underwood of Hodgenville and John Underwood of Greensburg, Ky.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gilbert Underwood, Brown Underwood, Lee Underwood and Tom Underwood; and one sister, Betty Jane Underwood.

Funeral was Friday, Sept. 3 at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Bro. Ronda Arnett officiated. Burial was in Zion Separate Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Johnny Durham, Bill Shofner, Barry Sprowles, Buddy Sprowles, James Sprowles and Billy Underwood.

Margaret 'Peg' Tooley, 92

Margaret "Peg" Tooley, 92, of Columbia, Ky., died at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia after a short illness.

Daughter of the late Roy and Nellie Ethel Wolverton Simmerman of Anderson, Ind., she was a member of Columbia Christian Church and a homemaker.

She was married to Walter William Tooley, who preceded her in death on April 3, 1990.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral was Saturday, Sept. 4 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia. Bro. Terry White officiated. Burial was in Elm Ridge cemetery in Muncie, Ind.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the debt retirement fund of Columbia Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home.

Cleo Gabehart Black, 84

Cleo Gabehart Black, 84, of North Hoskins Avenue in Campbellsville, Ky., died at 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Daughter of the late Eldridge B. O'Banion and Clara Esther Sullivan O'Banion, she was born in Adair County, Ky., on Feb. 1, 1920. She was a member of Palestine Baptist Church.

She married Leonard "Lynn" Gabehart on May 15, 1937. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1974. She married the Rev. Marshall Black on Dec. 27, 1978. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1996.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Moore of Louisville, Ky.; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Deborah Gabehart of Prospect, Ky.; one step-son, Terry Black and his wife Carol of Louisville; three grandchildren, Jeff Moore and his wife Leslie, Tim Moore and Andrea Gabehart, all of Louisville; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Moore, Allison Moore and Zachary Moore; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and four sisters, Catherine Gabehart, Pauline Smith, Allyne Underwood and Emma Lee Caulk, all of Campbellsville.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Evelyn Inez Gabehart on April 17, 1947; one grandson, Jason Gabehart on July 11, 2002; two sisters, Elizabeth Allen and Ruth Allen (in infancy); and three brothers, Paul O'Banion, Bill O'Banion and James Vernon O'Banion.

Funeral was Friday, Sept. 10 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Rev. Danny Pace officiated. Burial was in Palestine Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Marshall Caulk, Jim Gabehart, David Gene O'Banion, Harold O'Banion, Ronnie O'Banion and Desten Smith.

James Colby 'Mickey' Cowherd, 62

James Colby "Mickey" Cowherd, 62, of Green County, Ky., died on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Son of the late Colby Fisher Cowherd and Rachel Virginia Skaggs Cowherd, he was born in Green County on May 7, 1942. He was a member of Greensburg Baptist Church, Green County Retired Teachers Association and Green County Historical Society. Cowherd was also a director of Greensburg Deposit Bank.

He was married to Lou Ann Ford Cowherd, who survives.

Survivors also include one daughter, Amy Cowherd Peterson of Taylorsville, Ky.; one son, John Colby Cowherd of Memphis, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth "Katie" Peterson of Taylorsville; and one brother and sister-in-law, David and Jeanne Cowherd of Centerville, Ohio.

Funeral was Sunday, Sept. 5 at Greensburg Baptist Church. Bros. Ferrill Gardner and Mike Akridge officiated. Burial was in Greensburg cemetery.

Pallbearers were U.J. Wood, Patsy Wright, Hubert "Doc" Wright, Joe Shuffett, Joe DeSpain and Arley Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were the directors of Greensburg Deposit Bank.

Brandon Shawn Ford, 23

Brandon Shawn Ford, 23, of Elm Street in Campbellsville, Ky., died at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Son of Daryl Ford and Brenda DeSpain Ford, both of Campbellsville, he was born in Taylor County, Ky., on March 9, 1981. He was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church.

Survivors also include his step-mother, Betty Ford of Campbellsville; two step-sisters, Tabatha Martin of Vine Grove, Ky., and LaSheal Baker of Owensboro, Ky.; his grandparents, Betty Allen and Ethel Ford of Campbellsville and Lerman Despain of Sandwich, Ill.; his girlfriend, Megan Hill of Campbellsville; and his aunts and uncles, Angela Allen, Mark Allen and his wife Teena and Ruthie Mardis and her husband Garnett, all of Campbellsville, and Debbie McCubbin and her husband Greg of Vero Beach, Fla.

Funeral was Thursday, Sept. 9 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Revs. Ron Gleaves and Brian Rafferty officiated. Burial was in Brookside cemetery.

Pallbearers were Josh Allen, Roger Antle, Dennis Benningfield, Chad Mardis, Brandon McFall and Robbie Shaw.

Honorary pallbearers were Byron Ford, Robbie Gribbins, Eddie Hill, Travis Martin, Tim Tungate and Chuck Vaughn.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and can be made and the funeral home.
