Esther A. Carroll, 91

Esther A. Carroll, 91, died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Mount Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation in Mount Vernon, Ind.

Daughter of the late Walter and Martha Knight Blackburn, she was a 77-year member of Mount Vernon General Baptist Church and a long-term member of the Philathea Sunday School Class. Carroll was a member of the Ladies Aid Quilters and retired from the cafeteria at Mount Vernon High School.

She was married to William Carroll, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Wayne Carroll of Mount Vernon; three daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Benton of Paris, Ill., Mary Jane and Gordon Weddle of Campbellsville, Ky., and Betty Stevens of Mount Vernon; one sister, June Russell of Mount Vernon; one brother, Richard Blackburn of Columbus, Miss.; five grandchildren, Michael Carroll, Jacob M. Carroll and Jesse Carroll, all of Mount Vernon, John Weddle of Campbellsville, and Lora Gabbert of Louisville, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Moore of Evansville, Ind., and Jacob A. Carroll of Mount Vernon.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Funeral was Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Austin Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Dr. Franklin Dummond officiating. Burial was in the Bellefontaine cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon General Baptist Church.

Angela Lorena Hardesty Goodall, 84

Angela Lorena Hardesty Goodall, 84, of Russell Springs, Ky., formerly of Campbellsville, Ky., died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Somerset, Ky., after an illness.

She was the daughter of the late Kendrick and Isabella Yates Hardesty of Meade County.

She was married to James Robert Goodall, who preceded her death in 1974

Goodall is survived by one granddaughter and her husband, Angela Jo and Bob Williams of Russell Springs; two great-grandchildren, Charley Ann Williams and Robert Daniel Williams II, both of Russell Springs; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie Hardesty and Mary Lillian Barham, both of Brandenburg, and Teresa and Arthur Nash and Kenny Barmore, all of Louisville.

She was also preceded in death by one son, James L. Goodall in 2002; two brothers, William Owen Hardesty and Joseph Carl Hardesty; and one sister, Nora Kathleen Barmore.

Funeral was Monday, Oct. 25 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville. A prayer service was Sunday, Oct. 24 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Father Thomas Clark officiated.

Pallbearers were Mark Nash, Gregory Nash, Jimmy Pollock, Richard Preston and John Allen Hamm.

Jennifer Lynn Tutt Hernandez, 32

Jennifer Lynn Tutt Hernandez, 32, of Stafford, Va., formerly of Campbellsville, Ky., died on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Daughter of James and Marsha Tutt of Locust Grove, Va., she was born in Louisville, Ky. She graduated from Fern Creek High School and the University of Louisville. Hernandez was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Stafford, where she enjoyed volunteering.

She was married to Jonathan H. Hernandez of Virginia, who survives.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by one sister, Allison White of Henderson, Ky.; and her grandmothers, Victoria Tutt of Locust Grove, Va. and Lorena Warren of Louisville.

Memorial service was Thursday, Oct. 14 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Stafford, Va. and on Monday, Oct. 18 at Resthaven Chapel in Louisville, followed by a gathering time at Buechel Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1230 South Hurstbourne Pkwy., Suite 255, Louisville, Ky. 40222.

John McClendon, 79

John McClendon, 79, of Columbia, Ky., died at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his home after an illness.

Son of the late John I. and Hulda McFarland McClendon, he was a retired school administrator, a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was married to Alice Antle McClendon, who preceded him in death on April 8, 2003.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Brooks Curtis of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Dennis and Pat McClendon of Newport, Mich., and Joseph and Celeste McClendon of San Hos, Calif.; two sisters, Katherine Ginn of Sidney, Ohio and Mae Helm of Louisville; and three grandchildren, Tess McClendon, Rosie Curtis and Leah McClendon.

Funeral was Monday, Oct. 18 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial was in Ragan cemetery at Glensfork.

Pallbearers were John McClendon, Joe McClendon, Brooks Curtis, Daymond Antle and Jack McClendon.

Honorary pallbearer was Joe Cunningham.

George C. Winn, 91

George C. Winn, 91, of Greensburg, Ky., died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Green Hill Manor Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Son of the late Charles L. Winn and Nettie Pearl Mathis Winn, he was born Dec. 17, 1912, in Webster, Ky.

Winn was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church and served as a trustee and on the board of stewards. He was also on the board of directors for Greensburg Deposit Bank for more than 50 years, a past school board member, a Rotarian, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and past treasurer, and a member of American Legion Rod Lowe Post 124.

He was also the co-owner and operator of the former Winn Milling Co. in Greensburg as well as a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army.

He was married to Euzada Alexander Winn on Jan. 2, 1938. She survives.

Besides his wife, Winn is survived by two grandsons, the Rev. George Douglas Blackford of Temple, Texas, and James Aubrey Blackford of Dublin, Texas; three great-grandchildren, James Ryan Blackford, Jacob Reid Blackford and Brian Minshew, all of Texas; two sisters-in-law, Jean Blakeman of Greensburg and Doris Beauchamp of Hardinsburg; and two brothers-in-law, John F. Alexander of Hardinsburg and Luther L. "Sonny" Alexander of Irvington.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Georgeanna Blackford, on July 23, 1973.

Funeral was Monday, Oct. 25 at Greensburg United Methodist Church with burial in Greensburg cemetery. The Revs. Dale Curry, Todd Love and Doug Blackford officiated. Military honors were performed at the gravesite.

Pallbearers were Jim Winn, Steven Winn, Teddy Winn, Bennie Winn, Charles Winn, Kyle Winn, David Alexander and Nelson W. Blakeman.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Ralph Winchester, Nellie Winchester, Harold Hudgins, Jack Perkins and present and former employees of the Greensburg Deposit Bank.

Robert C. Wise, 80

Robert C. Wise, 80, of Bear Track Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Son of the late Delmer Wise and Edna Colvin Wise, he was born in Taylor County on April 3, 1924. He was a member of Palestine Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

He married Ruby Jarboe on Nov. 21, 1942. She survives.

Survivors also include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Page of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Delia Jeffries of Campbellsville, Linda and Bill Rigdon of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Richie and Marcie Page of Elizabethtown, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren, Alan Jeffries and Robbie Jeffries, both of Campbellsville, Kelley Rigdon and Wil Rigdon, both of Shepherdsville, and Morgan Page, Logan Page and Madison Page, all of Elizabethtown; and two brothers, Joe Wise and Lee Wise, both of Campbellsville.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Mike Jeffries; one sister, Floy Wise; and three brothers, Clellan Wise, Curtis Wise and Maurice Wise.

Funeral was Monday, Nov. 1 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Revs. A. Landon Hadley and Danny Pace officiated. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were David Carter Jarboe, Alan Jeffries, Robbie Jeffries, Todd Jeffries, Eric Skaggs, Charles Wise, Gary Wise, Johnnie Wise and R.W. Wise.

Honorary pallbearers were the adult men's Sunday school class of Palestine Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideon Bibles.

Frank 'Junior' Wheeler, 60

Frank "Junior" Wheeler, 60, of West Walnut Street in Campbellsville died at 6:38 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in Campbellsville.

Son of the late Frank Wheeler and Ada Cooley Wheeler, he was born in Marion County, Ky., on Nov. 6, 1943. He was a member of Sunny Hill Church of Christ and a self-employed mechanic.

He married Maryvene Walls on July 19, 1962. She survives.

Survivors also include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Johnny and Jamie Wheeler and Larry Wheeler and his fianc/ Cindy Keith, all of Campbellsville; one daughter, Frankie Gilbert of Campbellsville; 11 grandchildren, Amber Vaughn and her husband, Brad, Jonathan Wheeler, Doug Wheeler, Brennan Wheeler, Jade Wheeler, Cody Tucker, Dylan Gilbert, John Hoosier, Ashley Hoosier, Eric Keith and Megan Keith, all of Campbellsville; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, David Lee and Francis Wheeler and Tommy and Vickie Wheeler, all of Campbellsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Lynn Wheeler on Dec. 18, 1991; one grandson, Blake Gilbert on Dec. 14, 1997; and three sisters, Frances Crews, Elsie Crews and Aletha Sallee.

Funeral was Friday, Nov. 5 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Minister Greg Sharp officiated. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Jerry Wheeler, Keith Wheeler, Kelly Wheeler, Steven Wheeler, Scott Wheeler and Jeremy Wilcoxson.

Emily Ashton Tungate, Infant

Emily Ashton Tungate, infant, of Campbellsville died at 10:27 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in Taylor County.

She was the daughter of Greg and Lora Tungate of Campbellsville.

Survivors also include one brother, Alex Tungate; her grandparents, David and Joyce Tungate and Freddie and Betty Graham, all of Campbellsville; a great-grandfather, Clarence Benningfield of Lebanon, Ky.; aunts and uncles, Donnetta Tungate and Lisa and Billy DeSpain, all of Campbellsville, and Danny Graham of Lexington, Ky.; and one cousin, Elliott DeSpain of Campbellsville.

Funeral will be at noon on Thursday, Nov. 4 at Palestine Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Danny Pace will officiate.

Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Susie W. Tresenwriter, 96

Susie W. Tresenwriter, 96, of Beckley, W.Va., died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Pinecrest Hospital following an illness.

Daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle White, she was born in Campbellsville on Sept. 1, 1908. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God of America since 1922. She served as general secretary there for 45 years.

She was married to Elder William A. Tresenwriter, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one grandson and his spouse, Randy and Carolyn Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Kenny Green of Beckley and LeShawn Green Dobson and her husband, Greg, of Hampton, Va.; two great-great-grandchildren, Christian Dobson and Maiya Dobson, both of Hampton, Va.; one sister-in-law, Ollie Mae Napier of Danville, Ky.; a special nephew, General Elder Timothy Napier and his wife, Liz, of Danville; a special niece, Lauren "Cricket" Webster and her husband, Bobby, of Campbellsville; and special friends, Dora Moore and Irene Miller.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Virgil "Pee Wee" Tresenwriter; three brothers, Les White, Robert White and Wesley White; and one sister, Lottie White.

Funeral was Monday, Oct. 25, at Welcome Baptist Church in Beckley. General Elder Timothy Napier, Pastor Eunice Jones and The Rev. David F. Allen officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park in Beckley.

Pallbearers were the Original Gospel Singaleers.

Steven Thompson, 40

Steven Thompson, 40, of Davis Street in Campbellsville, died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital after an illness.

Son of the late Richard and Shirley Benningfield Thompson of Taylor County, he was married to Stephanie Thompson, who survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Blade Thompson and Austin Thompson, both of Campbellsville; two brothers, Donald Thompson and Lanny Thompson, both of Campbellsville; and one sister, Kathy Dooley of Campbellsville.

Funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel in Campbellsville. Bro. Danny Nelson officiated. Burial was in Tallow Creek cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Cisco, Rodney McMahan, Wesley Ferrie, Derrick Blankenship, Val Bagby and Bobby Cox.

Debra Taylor, 46

Debra Taylor, 46, of Palmyra, Ind., formerly of Campbellsville, Ky., died on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in Indiana.

Daughter of Marvin Kirtley of Campbellsville and the late Velma N. Kirtley, she was born in Taylor County on April 22, 1958. She was a member of Calvary Holiness Church in Brooks, Ky.

In addition to her father, she is survived by two daughters, Chrystal Cox of Evansville, Ind., and Heather Nicole Taylor of Louisville, Ky.; her step-mother, Edna Kirtley of Campbellsville; her grandmother, Lizzie French of Campbellsville; one sister, Marilyn Corley of Sevierville, Tenn.; two godchildren, Lissie Johnson of Clarksville, Ind., and Mayme Logsdon of Palmyra; and her best friend, Rebecca Logsdon, of Palmyra.

Funeral was Thursday, Nov. 4 at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra. Burial was in Palmyra cemetery.

Blanche Marie Shell, 78

Blanche Marie Shell, 78, of Green County, Ky., died on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Ky.

Daughter of the late Clyde Sanders and Passie Potter Sanders, she was born in Pike County, Ky., on Feb. 7, 1926. She was a homemaker.

She was married to James Luther Shell, who preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1965.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Shell of Greensburg, Ky.; two daughters, Julia Kilgore and Dorothy Boston, both of Greensburg; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Rita Ann Shell and Ruth Ann Mixon; one brother, Burton Sanders; and one grandchild, Ronnie Blake Kilgore on Nov. 22, 1992.

Funeral was Thursday, Nov. 4 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. The Rev. Chad Hunt officiated. Burial was in Pierce Community cemetery.

Family members served as pallbearers.
