Mr. Lloyd Lee McClure, age 67 of Martinsville, Indiana, died Sunday, June 1st, 2008, in Martinsville. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Thursday at 2pm with Rev. Winston Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. A native of Simpson county, he was the son of the late Leo Pete McClure and Lucille Garrett McClure. He was retired from the Kroger Company. He served in the Army Reserve. Survivors include 5 daughters - Teresa Burress and Yvonne Davenport both of Franklin, Yvette McClure of Indianapolis, Indiana, Melissa Berdin of Franklin, Indiana and Melinda Sipe of Martinsville, Indiana; 1 son - Lloyd McClure, Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 12noon Tuesday and after 6am Wednesday and Thursday at Crafton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hazel Galloway Stringer, age 90 of Franklin, died Tuesday morning, August 26th, 2008 at the New Haven Assisted Living Facility in Franklin. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Thursday at 2pm with burial to follow in Old Union cemetery in Woodburn. Elder H.C. Vanderpool and Elder Steven Skinner will officiate. A native of Simpson County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Thomas Galloway and Grace Meador Galloway. She was a member of the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Stringer was preceded in death by her husband - Dumont Stringer in 2000, 2 brothers - Claude and Stanley Galloway and 2 sisters - Marie Raines and Floy Winnecke. Survivors include her daughter - Phyllis Caudill and husband Joe of Franklin; 2 grandchildren - Lisa Bowles and husband Phil of Woodburn and Mark Caudill and wife Penny of Bowling Green; 4 great grandchildren - Josh Eden, Hunter Bowles, Tyler Caudill and Bailey Caudill; 2 step great grandchildren and 4 step great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Wednesday and after 6am Thursday at Crafton Funeral Home.

Mr. Jerd Johnson, age 67 of Franklin, died Wednesday, August 20th, 2008, at his residence. Crafton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3pm at Crafton Funeral Home. A native of Allen County, he was the son of the late John Thomas Johnson and Omer Bell Johnson. He was the commander of VFW Post 5706 for 30years, a Viet Nam Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 62. Survivors include his wife - Sandra Faye Saylors Johnson of Franklin; 3 daughters - Janet Brewer, Tina Hutcherson and Leah Davis all of Franklin; 1 son - Christopher Paul Johnson of Allen County; 1 brother - Ike Johnson of Atwood, Ill.; 1 sister - Gener May of Franklin; 9 grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 1pm Sunday at Crafton Funeral Home. The family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Hazel Mims Halcomb, age 88 of Russellville, died Tuesday, August 19th, 2008, at Hopkins Nursing Facility in Woodburn. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11am at the Franklin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charlie Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery in Adairville, Ky. A native of Humphries County Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Talmage Mims and Virginia Graham Mims. She was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Halcomb was preceded in death by her husband - Will Frank Halcomb in 2004. Survivors include 1 son - Don Halcomb and wife Mere of Franklin; 3 sisters - Mary Watts and Margaret DeGeorge both of Nashville and Kathleen Signaigo of Memphis, TN.; 2 grandsons - John Halcomb of Franklin and Sam Halcomb and wife Stephanie of Monterey, Mexico. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm Friday and after 6am Saturday at Crafton Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10am until funeral time. The family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Franklin.

Mrs. Ruth Warren Randolph, age 79 of Franklin, died Saturday, August 16th, 2008, at the Medical Center in Franklin. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Tuesday at 11am with Bro. Brad Rogers and Bro. Gene Willett officiating. Burial will follow in Providence cemetery. A native of Simpson County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Warren and Onie Brown Warren. She was a retired employee of Potter & Brumfield and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mrs. Randolph was preceded in death by her husband - David Randolph and a grandson - Josh Randolph. Survivors include 1 son - Jody Randolph and wife Cheri of Franklin; 1 grandson - Jim David Randolph of Franklin and 1 great grandchild - Cassie Randolph of Franklin. Visitation will be from 4 to 9pm Monday and after 6am Tuesday at Crafton Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to Fairview Baptist Church.

Mr. Rudy Deweese, age 81of Franklin, died Friday, August 15th, 2008, at the Medical Center in Franklin. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Monday at 1pm with Bro. Winston Roberts and Bro. Hobert Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Sulphur Spring cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Simpson County Honor Guard. A native of Edmonson County, he was the son of the late Walter Phillip Deweese and Georgeanne Smith Deweese. Mr. Deweese was involved in law enforcement in Franklin and Simpson County from 1974 until retirement in 1994. His service included 3 terms as Simpson County Sheriff, City & County Detective and City Police Chief. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Mr. Deweese was a member of Eastside Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife - Ann Gentry Deweese of Franklin; 4 sons- Gerry, Rickey, Brent and Brian Deweese all of Franklin; 2 brothers - Rev. Walter Deweese and Bill Deweese both of Franklin; 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a special nephew - Weldon Deweese of Franklin. Visitation will be from 1 to 8pm Sunday and after 6am Monday at Crafton Funeral Home.

Mr. Jim Harold “Cracker Jack” Coleman, age 77 of Russellville, died Tuesday, August 12th, 2008, at his residence. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10am in Pilot Knob cemetery with Bro. Winston Roberts officiating. A native of Simpson County, he was the son of the late Charlie W. Coleman and Bertha Coleman. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include his brother - Charles H. Coleman of Auburn and a sister - Estelle Cartwright of Franklin; caretakers - Steve & Denise Gregory of Russellville; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm Thursday and after 6am Friday at Crafton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sarah Joyce Mandrell Mullins, age 61 of Franklin, died Thursday, July 31st, 2008 at her home. Funeral services are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Friday at 6pm with Rev. Donald Key officiating. A memorial celebration will be held Saturday at 6pm in the New Hope cemetery in Westmoreland, TN with Rev. John Bowling officiating. A native of Westmoreland, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Delbert W. Mandrell and Myrtle Ruth Cannon Mandrell. Mrs. Mullins was a CSR with R. Lorin Mullins Agency and worked actively with the Child Abuse Prevention (CAPS) in Simpson County. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers - James David Mandrell and Roy Mandrell. Survivors include her husband - R. Lorin Mullins of Franklin; 2 sons- Shane Bomar of Tampa, Florida and Austin Bomar of Lexington, KY; 2 sisters- Joann Sircy of Gallatin, TN and Frances Simmons of Russellville, KY; 1 brother - Frank Mandrell of Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 grandchildren - Coeda Bomar and Daetyn Bomar both of Copperas Cove, Texas. Visitation will begin Friday at 11am at Crafton Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and/or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.

Mrs. Thelma Adcox Russell, age 94 of Franklin, died Saturday afternoon, July 26th, 2008, at the Hopkins Nursing Facility in Woodburn, Ky. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be Wednesday at 11a.m. with Bro. Michael Kinslow officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn cemetery. A native of Allen, Co., Ky. she was the daughter of the Late James Dayton and Mazie Maynard Adcox. She was a housewife and was preceded in death by her husband Rev. D.C. Russell. Survivors include: 1 Daughter, 4 Grandchildren- Alana Gann of Franklin, Gary and Russell Gann both of Indianapolis, Ind., and Dana Anderson of Franklin. 9 Great Grandchildren- April Gann, Jennifer Frazier, Jessica and Lianne Gann, Ashley and Trevor Gann, Chase, Joshua, and Aaron Anderson. 1 Great Great Grandchild- Rachel Baker. 2 Brothers- Kenneth Adcox of Bowling Green, and Jimmie Adox of Florida. Several Nieces and Nephews. The family has requested that friends call Crafton Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2p.m. till 8p.m. and after 6a.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Dennis Dean Townsend, age 62 of Franklin, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Friday at 2pm with Bro. Winston Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Blackjack cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Simpson County Honor Guard. A native of Iowa, he was the son of the late Orie Townsend and Evelyn Stohl Townsend who survives in Crestin, Iowa. He was in retail management for 18 years at Walmart. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son - Darrin Townsend and wife Christie of Bowling Green; 2 daughters - Debbie Sloan of Franklin and Denise Harward and husband Coby of Ocala, Florida; a son in law - Tommy Sloan of Franklin; 2 brothers - Bill Townsend of Springfield, Missouri and Jerry Townsend of Mt. Ayre, Iowa; 8 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 9pm Thursday and after 6am Friday at Crafton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Claudine Starks Johnson, age 87 of Franklin, died Friday, July 18th, 2008, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Monday at 3pm with Bro. Butch Morris and Bro. Winston Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. A native of Robertson County Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Lee Starks and Lillie Mae Smith Starks. She was a member of Orlinda Baptist Church and attended Providence Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her son - Thomas Frank Johnson. Survivors include her husband - Thomas Johnson of Franklin; 2 daughters - Sue Morris and husband Butch and Mae Belle Cook and husband Harold all of Franklin; 1 son - Lee B. Johnson and wife Judy R. of Alvaton; 5 grandchildren - Scotty Cook and wife Cindy of Franklin, Alex C. Johnson of Lexington, Cayce Johnson of Bowling Green, Michael Morris and wife Laurie of Franklin and Gina Marie Phillips and husband John of Franklin; 4 great grandchildren - Zachary Cook, Brandon Perry, Delsie Phillips and Sophie Phillips. Visitation will begin at 1pm Sunday and after 6am Monday at Crafton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Velma Inez Pitt, age 87 of Franklin, died Tuesday, July 15th, 2008, at the Medical Center in Franklin. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held Friday at 2pm with Larry Horn and Bro. Steve Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Sulphur Spring cemetery. A native of Macon County Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Willie Bryant “Will” Hooper and Mary Gertrude Tuck Hooper. Mrs. Pitt was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church for 61 years. She is survived by a daughter - Nancye Jean Cook of Franklin; 2 step sons - Ronald Pitt of Monument, CO and Leo Pitt of Franklin; her fiance of 22 years, Fred Bayles of Adairville; 2 sisters - Anna Lee Terrell of Rockwall, TX and Pat Freas of Franklin. She was the proud grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 12. She was preceded in death by her husband of 8 years, Conrad Hickman; her husband of 37 years, Ernest Pitt; her step daughter - Norma Gregory; her brother, Carmen Hooper and one grandson, Timothy Cook. Visitation will be from 4 to 9pm and after 6am Friday at Crafton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Baptist Church Fellowship Hall fund.

Maxine Jeanette Butcher Clark died early Saturday morning, July 12th, 2008, at her home. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Benton Clark of Franklin, KY. Mrs. Clark was born May 8, 1915 in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edwin and Corrine Blome Butcher. Maxine Clark is also survived by two daughters, Diana Hudgens and her husband Thomas Hudgens of Raleigh, Dr. Sylvia Pulliam and her husband, Dr. Michael Pulliam, of Franklin. Other survivors include granddaughters Katherine C.H. Epstein and husband Robert of Amagansett, Mary-Benton Gordon and husband John of Raleigh, Laura Benton Elliott and husband Lloyd of Franklin and Wyllis Smith and husband Anthony of Louisville. Great-grandchildren are Sarah and Tom Gordon, Ben and Jack Elliott, James “Jake” Epstein, and Saul Smith. Mrs. Clark was also lovingly cared for by Carmen Woodall, Sandra Barton, Debbie Fogle, Grace Jackson, Diane Caudill and Brenda Sea. Mrs. Clark and her husband moved to Franklin from Louisville in 1979. She was a member of Franklin First Baptist Church and the Philathea Sunday School class, Homemakers, Women in Charge, Friends of the Library, and the Garden Club. She served as president and held other offices in several of those organizations. While her children were at home, Mrs. Clark was very active in PTA work and even started a preschool PTA in Birmingham, Ala. She always enjoyed working with young people, especially in helping young women be informed and well educated. She and Mr. Clark traveled extensively to England, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Hawaii, France, Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland and Guatemala. One memorable trip was a cruise following the missionary journeys of St. Paul. For the past ten years, Mrs. Clark lived quietly at home. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
