Joe W. Burden
(April 6, 1941 - October 9, 2011)

Joe W. Burden, age 70, of Leitchfield KY, passed away Sunday, (October 9, 2011) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.

He was born on April 6, 1941, in Breckinridge County, KY, the son of John W. and Ersie Smith Burden. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local # 64 in Louisville, KY.

He is survived by his wife, Sharion Edwards Burden, four daughters, Debbie Johnson, Rhonda Cravens and Christina (Jeremy) Howard of Louisville, and Amanda Burden of Leitchfield, two sons, Marty (Tammy) Burden of Leitchfield and David Vance (Becky) of Trenton, TN, three brothers, Donnie of Cecilia, KY, Robert John (Gladys) of Hudson, KY and Jimmy (Paula) Burden of Millwood, KY, two sisters, Beatrice (Jimmy) Duke and Betty Kappel of Falls of Rough, KY, eleven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.

Other than his parents, he was preceded her in death by one son, Jay W. Burden and one brother, Clifton Burden.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (October 12, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro Glennie Geary will be officiating. Burial will be in the Oller cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.

William "Bill" Lewis Glenn
(March 5, 1934 - October 17, 2011)

William “Bill” Lewis Glenn Sr., age 77, of Leitchfield KY, passed away Monday, (October 17, 2011) at his home.

He was born on March 5, 1934, in Leitchfield, KY, the son of the late Emmett Avery and Ida Mae Moon Glenn. He was a retired highway engineer for Brighton Engineering and the State of Kentucky and was a member and Elder of the Clinton Street Church of Christ, a loving husband, father and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was an avid fan of Facebook.

He is survived by his wife, Deloris Lee Glenn, his children, Susan Higdon (Ralph) of Leitchfield, Bill Glenn Jr., of Covington KY, Martha Byrd (Tom) of Leitchfield, Paul Glenn (Michelle) of Nicholasville, KY and Jason Glenn (Nora Ellen) of Louisville, KY, eleven grandchildren, Amanda Wilkins, Adam Higdon, Alana Jones, Alli Higdon, Amber Chandler, Misty Rice, Brett, Chad and Spencer Byrd, Sydney and Shelby Glenn, six great-grandchildren, Austin Wilkins, Breigh and Kinley Jones, Cortney, Cadance and Tristen Chandler, his brother, Bob Glenn (Cecilia Ann) of Leitchfield and one niece and three nephews, Debbie Saltsman, Steve, Bart and John Glenn.

Other than his parents, he was preceded her in death by a granddaughter, Sabrina Byrd.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 on Wednesday at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. No services are scheduled and cremation was chosen.

Edna Jo Decker
(August 3, 1927 - October 18, 2011)

Edna Jo Decker, age 84, of Leitchfield KY, passed away Tuesday, (October 18, 2011) at her residence.

She was born on August 3, 1927, in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of the late Lewis and Effie Smothers Wells. She was a housewife and a retired inspector for Kane’s Manufacturing and was a member of the Mulberry Flats United Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, William Decker, two daughters, Linda Pawley of Leitchfield and Sandy Barton (Bucky) of Caneyville, KY, one son, Harold Decker (Bonnie) of Shepherdsville, KY, one brother, William Wayne Wells of California, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grand children and six great-great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded her in death by a son, Richard Lee Decker, a sister, Vivian Higdon and a brother, Claude Morgan Wells.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (October 20, 2011) at the Mulberry Flats United Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bros Kenneth Meredith and Jerry Weedman will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mulberry Flats cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Stephen Wayne Butler
(March 27, 1948 - October 19, 2011)

Stephen Wayne Butler, age 63, of Leitchfield KY, passed away Wednesday, (October 19, 2011) at the Norton’s Hospital in Louisville, KY.

He was born on March 27, 1948, in Louisville, the son of Kenneth Eugene Butler and Emma Jean Conder Close. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Pawley Butler of Leitchfield, two sons, Kevin Butler of Leitchfield and Brian Butler (Anna) of Munfordville, KY, one daughter, Laura Basham of Leitchfield, his mother, Emma Jean Close of Leitchfield, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Eugene Butler and his grandparents, Lovell and Lottie Conder.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday (October 23, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Pastor Chris Rowlins will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time of service.

Courtney Ella Smith
(January 11, 1929 - October 14, 2011)

Courtney Ella Smith, age 82, of Louisville, passed away Friday October 14, 2011) at Summerfield Nursing Home in Louisville.

She was born on January 11, 1929, in Butler Co, the daughter of Pirtle & Minnie Embry Dockery. She was a charter member of Peniel Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by 1 daughter Rebecca Smith of Louisville, 2 grandsons Donald Sullivan & Eddie Ray Brooks both of Louisville, 5 great grandchildren, several stepchildren & nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 sister Erna Gary.

Funeral services will be Tuesday October 18, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dermitt Funeral Home with Bro. Daryl Dockery officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Union cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville from 9:00 am - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday until time of service.

Guthrie Tucker Wilson
(March 31, 1913 - October 18, 2011)

Guthrie Tucker Wilson, age 98 of Louisville, Ky. passed away Tuesday October 18, 2011 at the Presbyterian Nursing Home in Louisville.

He was born on March 31, 1913, the son of Walter & Lillie Hardy Wilson. He was a retired farmer.

He is survived by 1 daughter Patsy Gail Cochran of New Albany Indiana, 6 grandchildren Stephanie, Heather, Dean, Susan, Sherri & Steve. 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Iona Winter & Annie Tucker both of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his wife Beulah, 1 son Edgar & 1 daughter Glynda.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 12:00 P.M. CDT at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville, with interment in the Richland cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville, Wednesday from 12:00 until 9:00P.M. CDT and after 9:00 – Thursday, until time of service.

Lonnie Webb Jr.
(December 25, 1926 - September 3, 2011)

Lonnie Webb Jr., age 84 of Clarkson, KY, passed away Saturday, (September 3, 2011), in Clarkson.

He was born on December 25, 1926, in Edmonson Co, KY, the son of the late Lonnie Webb Sr. and Mona Harrison Webb. He was a retired farmer, school bus driver and metal worker for Kelly Bee Hive Factory and was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church. He was also a deacon in the United Baptist Church for 58 years.

He is survived by his wife, Hermeda Hornback Webb, his daughter, Dixie Franklin (Rowan) of Clarkson, his son, Bobby David Webb (Brenda) of Bowling Green, KY, two sisters, Dolly LaVerne Armes of Clarkson and Nora Pearl Roof of Leitchfield, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Skaggs, two sisters, Gladys Meredith and Marie Pearl and three brothers, Grant, Hoye and Coy Webb.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (September 5, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bros. Freddie Vertress and James Jesse will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mulberry Flats cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of services.

Myrtle Newton
(April 4, 1918 - September 7, 2011)

Myrtle Newton, age 93, of Leitchfield KY, passed away Wednesday, (September 7, 2011) at the Springview Nursing and Rehab in Leitchfield.

She was born on April 4, 1918, in Edmonson County, KY, the daughter of George and Essie Deweese Heath. She was a housewife and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She is survived by six sons, Lewis (Lucille), Jimmy and Lawrence (Tami) of Leitchfield, Paul of Elizabethtown, KY, Tommy (Pat) of Caneyville, KY and Earl Newton (Dottie Krause) of Louisville, KY, two daughters, Ruth Ann Meredith (Ralph) of Glendale, KY and Judy Haycraft (Ralph) of Leitchfield, two brothers, Charles Heath (Frances) of Idaho and Pete Heath(Dorsey), one sister, Almeda Booker (Danny), eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Newton and one son, Everett Newton, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday (September 9, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Pastor Christopher Rollins will be officiating. Burial will be in the South Union cemetery.

Guy VanMeter
(September 17, 1928 - October 25, 2011)

Guy VanMeter, age 83 of Leitchfield, KY passed away Tuesday (October 25, 2011) at the Grayson Manor Nursing Home.

Guy was born September 17, 1928 in Grayson County the son of Guy Sr., and Anna Mae Kinkade VanMeter. He was a member of the Leitchfield First Baptist Church, a Master Mason of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of the order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Kosair Shriners of Louisville, KY.

In 1950 Guy starter with the Arnett’s Dept. Stores where he worked and managed stores in Hardinsburg, Leitchfield and Clarkson, after 15 years of service to Arnett’s he then started with the Louisville Store where he worked and managed until 1972 and at that time He, his wife Laree and their son Don purchased and ran the Ben Franklin 5-10 store until 1988.

Guy is survived by his wife, Laree VanMeter of Leitchfield, one son, Don and his wife Rowena of Greenville, KY, two brothers, Jack VanMeter of Louisville and Dock VanMeter and his wife Edna of Bowling Green, KY. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (October 29, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield; Dr. Jerry Adamson will be officiating with burial in the Fairview cemetery.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday (October 27, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.

Eastern Star and Masonic Services will began at 5:30 p.m. Friday night at the Funeral Home.

Evelyn Ray Dowdy
(April 25, 1936 - October 27, 2011)

Evelyn Ray Dowdy, age 75 of Rosiclare, Illinois. passed away Thursday October 27, 2011 at the Rosiclare Health & Rehab Center.

She was born on April 25, 1936, the daughter of Charles Everett & Grace Alta Suits Clark. She was a retired machine operator at a sewing factory.

She is survived by 1 daughter Pamela Kay Jones of Rosiclare, Illinois, 3 sons James Woodcock, Everett Woodcock & Charles Osman all of Caneyville, 2 sisters Alta L. Jackson of Illinois & Diane Allen of Tennessee, 12 grandchildren & 22 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville, with interment in the Woodcock cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville, Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00P.M. CDT and after 9:00 – Sunday, until time of service.

Charles Robert "Bob" Johnson
(September 11, 1957 - October 27, 2011)

Charles Robert “Bob” Johnson, age 54, of Falls of Rough, KY, passed away Thursday, (October 27, 2011) at the University of Louisville.

He was born on September 11, 1957, in Clarkson, KY, the son of Bobby and Nell Young Johnson. He was employed at Foster’s Propane in Leitchfield as a service installer, where he received extended educational courses in heating and air.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Johnson of Falls of Rough; one daughter, Manda Mclennan (Jason) of Lexington; one step-daughter, Heather Brooks of Louisville; father and step-mother, Bobby and Martine Johnson of Horse Branch; one granddaughter, Rileigh; two brothers, Kenny Johnson (Gail), and Steve Johnson both of Big Clifty; one sister, Barbara Lindsey (Perry) of Short Creek; five aunts, Linda Gibson of Leitchfield, Carol Hammers of Louisville, Willa Roach of Louisville, Lorene Cooley of Oregon, Linda O'Bryant of Elizabethtown, one uncle, Charles Johnson of Florida; two nephews, Kendal Johnson of Big Clifty, and Tyler Johnson of Florida; one niece, Meredith Hoeksema of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nell Young Johnson.

Cremation was chosen.

The family will receive friends at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
