Geneva E. Jackson Smith, age 94, of Big Reedy, KY, passed away Saturday, (January 7, 2012) at the Morgantown Care & Rehab.

She was born on January 14, 1917, in Caneyville, KY, the daughter of the late John Riley and Mary Ellen Layman Jackson. She was a retired Librarian and attended the New Harvest Baptist Church here in Caneyville.

She is survived by one son, Larry Smith and his wife Joann of Caneyville, one sister, Gertrude Huff of Leitchfield, grandchildren, Leslie Cena (Robert) of Brownsville and Steven Smith (Heather) of Leitchfield and her great grandchildren Jacob and Emma Grace Cena and Eli and Hannah Smith.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harold and one sister Eva Higgs.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. (January 9, 2012) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro. Steven Smith will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday (January 8, 2012)

Robert Lee Beasley
(June 27, 1926 - January 7, 2012)

Robert Lee Beasley, age 85, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (January 7, 2012) at the Western Kentucky Veteran’s Center in Hanson, Kentucky.

He was born on June 27, 1926, in Butler Co., Kentucky, the son of the late Wayne and Nola Lindsey Beasley. He was a retired boilermaker and maintenance supervisor for the TVA, a member of Boilermaker Local Union # 40, the Caneyville Masonic Lodge # 631, an Army veteran of World War II, where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and was a member of the Caneyville Christian church.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Buckles Beasley, five children, Robert L Beasley, Madelyn Kane, Anita Bratcher, Judy Tilford and John Beasley, ten grandchildren, Rob Beasley, Amy Robinson, Michael and Scott Kane, Adam and Ashlee Tilford, Kristin Smith, Laura Cross, Jennifer Cummings and Lee Beasley, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Hugh Wayne Beasley, one great grandchild, Lorris Louise Cummings and three brothers and three sisters.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (January 11, 2012) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. David Brown will be officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.

Expressions of sympathy can take the form of donations to the Caneyville Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Jo Ann Fentress
(April 23, 1929 - January 17, 2012)

Jo Ann Lyons Fentress, age 82, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (January 17, 2012) at the Springview Health and Rehab in Leitchfield.

She was born on April 23, 1929, in McQuady, Kentucky, the daughter of the late David Murray and Grace Dempster Whitler Lyons. She was a devoted housewife and mother and was a member of the Leitchfield First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Fentress, her children, Larry Fentress (Liz) of Louisville, KY, Dianne Popplewell (Mike) of Shepherdsville, KY, Debbie Thornton (Greg) and Peggy Higdon both of Leitchfield, David Fentress of Evansville, IN, Terri Fentress of Bowling Green, KY and Paige Lopez of Leitchfield, two sisters, Doris Moorman of Iowa and Bonnie Wilson of Hardinsburg, KY, one brother, B.W. Lyons of Leitchfield, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Robert C. Lyons and Margaret Murray Moore.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (January 21, 2012) at the Leitchfield First Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bro. Jerry Dunaway will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Gladys Lindsey
(August 30, 1928 - December 28, 2011)

Gladys Lindsey, age 83 of Millwood, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday Dec. 28th. She was the beloved sister of E. Otto Lindsey and precious friend of Mildred V. Lindsey. She is also survived and treasured by 6 nieces and nephews: Mary Helen Wilson, E. Eugene Lindsey (Tona Lindsey), Lucy (Arnold) Lucas, J. Dennis (Lisa) Dooley, Julianna Lindsey (Mark Prince), and Tracy (Danny) Lindsey. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Tolbert and Geneva E. Lindsey, and a sister Helen. She is also survived by 9 great nieces and nephews: Jeremy, Tara, Jamie, and Eric Lindsey, Steven Wilson, Lauren Alea Lucas, Brooke Elaine Lindsey, Rhiana L. and Ethan L. Prince.

Gladys was a devout Christian and served the Lord faithfully throughout her life. She was an evangelist and loved to praise God through music; Gladys often played the accordion, piano and sang at church. She learned to sew and quilt from her mother Geneva, and could nurture any plant to grow and flourish. She worked for many years at Kane manufacturing and IMS sewing factory. Gladys enjoyed going to work every day and the fellowship of co-workers.

Her funeral will be held Thursday Dec. 29th at Clearview Baptist Church, Rev. Chessie Schartzer will be officiating. Visitation begins @ noon with funeral services @ 3pm. Interment will be at Walnut Hill cemetery.

Rev. Edward T. Dermitt
(January 27, 1926 - December 31, 2011)

Rev. Edward T. Dermitt, age 85, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Kensington Manor in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

He was born January 27, 1926, in Grayson Co., Kentucky, the son of the late Homer and Marion Green Dermitt. Along with his sons, he started the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield in 1969 and at the Caneyville location in 1971. He was also a United Baptist Minister, an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge and a member of the Claggett United Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Yates Dermitt, one daughter, Judy Clemons, two sons, Jerry (Judy) of Caneyville and Roger (Chris) of Leitchfield, two sisters, Gertha Burnett of Elizabethtown and Mercedese Templeman of Leitchfield, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dale Dermitt, one son-in-law, Richard Clemons and one sister, Margaret Tilford.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 3, 2012) at the Claggett United Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bro. Howard Decker, Bro. Garry Watkins and Bro. Danny Dickson will be officiating. Burial will be in the Claggett cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday and at the church from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.

John Lee (J. L.) Cravens
(March 7, 1925 - January 6, 2012)

John Lee (J.L.) Cravens, age 86, of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Williamsville, Illinois and Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (January 6, 2012) at his home after a long illness.

He was born on March 7, 1925, in Leitchfield, Kentucky, the son of the late Marvin A. and Ida "Granny" Young Cravens. He married Mary Agnes Kiper on April 20, 1946, in Leitchfield, KY.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes Kiper Cravens; one son, Curtis Cravens (wife- Nora) of Navota, California; three daughters, Wanda Snedeker (husband-Wallace) of Loudon, Tennessee, Joyce Arnold (husband- Phil) of Springfield, Illinois and Rita Levi (husband Preston-deceased) of Ft Lauderdale, Florida; two sisters, Mary Alice Kiper of Leitchfield and Barbara Byerline Jones of Butler Co. Kentucky; ten grandchildren, Angela Drysdale, Cynthia and Randy Cravens, Matthew and Sarah Smith, Nathan and Emily Arnold, Cameron and Lucy Cravens and Ayden Derrick; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Erin Drysdale and Brennan and Brady Smith. Also surviving are Joanna Sharp Cravens and Christian Sharp, along with several other relatives.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Maurice Cravens, his brother, George W. Cravens and his sister, Norma Jean Mangold.

A 1943 graduate of Short Creek High School, John served in the US Army 126th Anti aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion in Europe from 1943-1946. John and Mary married when he returned. There he farmed, worked construction in Brandenburg and Fort Knox, KY. They moved to Athens and Williamsville, Illinois where he farmed and later worked at the Williamsville Farmers Coop. He was a volunteer fireman and fire chief for the Williamsville Fire Dept. and was active in Civil defense. John was baptized at the Williamsville Christian Church, where he and Mary Agnes happily worshipped. John and Mary Agnes retired back home to Leitchfield, KY, where he was an elder at the Leitchfield Christian Church for several years. In 2008 they moved to Lenoir, City to be close to their eldest daughter and joined the Christian Church of Loudon County.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (January 10, 2012) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Lee Schroerlucke will be officiating. Burial will be in the Claggett cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.

Expressions of sympathy can take the form of donations to the Christian Church of Loudon County, in Lenoir City, Tennessee.

Lena V. Butler
(November 30, 1919 - January 17, 2012)

Lena V. Butler, age 92, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (January 17, 2012) at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield with her family by her side.

She was a housewife and the mother of ten children. She loved caring for her home, gardening, homemaking, sewing and spending time with her family.

She was born on November 30, 1919, in Breckinridge Co., Kentucky, the daughter of the late Herb and Ada Smiley Robinson.

She is survived by four sons, George H (Mary Jane), Justis (Pat), Larry (Helen) and Darrell (Irene) Butler all of Leitchfield, six daughters, Ramona Reddish (Thomas), Winnie Combs (Bruce), Betty Kiper (Hubert), Jacyl Dupin, Judy Bullock (Eddie) and Wilma Bates (Larry) all of Leitchfield, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George S Butler of 71 years, two sons-in-law, Stanley Dupin and Jr. Stinnett and a grandson, Jason Butler.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (January 19, 2012) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Wayne Clemons will be officiating. Burial will be in the Holly cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service.

Stephen Dale Dennison
(November 16, 1952 - January 20, 2012)

Stephen Dale Dennison, age 59, passed away Friday, January 20, 2012, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by his family.

He was born November 16, 1952, in Leitchfield, KY, the son of Stanley Chancellor and Gladys Carter Dennison.

He was a farmer who was very active in the local community. He served on the Leitchfield City Council for thirteen years, the Grayson County Extension Board for four years, and the Leitchfield Volunteer Fire Department for eighteen years. He was a very proud Kentucky Colonel. Besides farming, he laid carpet for several years and worked as the Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator for Grayson County for eight years. He was a member of the Leitchfield United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his much-loved wife of thirty-two years, Kathy Green Dennison, of Leitchfield, and two children: Kristin Pierce, and her husband Keith, of Axtel, and S. Chancellor Dennison, of Geneva, Switzerland, and his much adored grandson, Roger Carter Pierce. He is also survived by his beloved mother Gladys Carter Dennison. Other survivors include: three sisters, Jo Ann Probus and her husband Earl Ray, Dorothy Armstrong, and Donna Wooden and her husband David; one brother J.W. Dennison and his wife Patsy; one sister-in-law, Anne Dennison; his mother-in-law, Doris Green. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Chancellor Dennison, two brothers, Jackie and Randall, a niece Diana Wooden Witty, a nephew, Davey Wooden, his father-in-law Marion Roger Green, and a brother-in-law, Clinton Armstrong.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January, 25, 2012 at the Leitchfield United Methodist Church. Bros. Darryl Lyons and Fred Whitmore will be officiating. Burial will be in Hanging Rock Church cemetery. Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.

In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made to the Hanging Rock cemetery Fund, the National Kidney Foundation, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Adam Snell
(October 18, 1984 - February 9, 2012)

Adam Snell, age 27, of Leitchfield passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012 at his residence in Leitchfield, KY.

He was born on October 18, 1984 in Leitchfield, the son of Teri Darnell and Mike Wilkerson. He was a head chef at All Saints Campground. He was a member of Wilson Home Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Courtney of Leitchfield, his mother Teri Darnell (Hugh) of Caneyville, his father Mike Wilkerson of Leitchfield, one brother Nathaniel Wilkerson and one sister Jordan Wilkerson both, one step-brother Nickolas Darnell and one step-sister Kaylin Darnell all of Leitchfield, his grandparents Dewey J. and Bonnie Bratcher of Caneyville and Sherman Wilkerson of Leitchfield, great grandparents Lee and Juanita Cravens of Shepherdsville, two nephews Bradin and Blake Burden of Leitchfield.

Cremation was chosen with a memorial service to be held at the Wilson Home General Baptist Church in Caneyville on Saturday, February 18 from 11 am until 2 pm. Brother Wayne Clemons will be officiating.

Larry Sherman Hack

Larry Hack, age 62, of Caneyville passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on September 30, 1949 in Caneyville, the son of Roy and Gertrude Hack. He was a truck driver for Ohio Valley Reload.

He is survived by 2 sons, Wayne Hack (Marcia) of Falls of Rough and Roy Hack (Stephanie) of Leitchfield, a step daughter Fawn Clark of Caneyville, 2 sisters, Opal Reynolds and Alma Dean Bratcher (Roger) both of Caneyville, 4 brothers, Clifton and Richard Hack (Elaine) both of Caneyville, Roger Hack (Marie) of Morgantown, and Hershell Hack (Debbie) of Leitchfield, 2 grandsons, Hunter and Colby Hack both of Leitchfield and 2 granddaughters, Chelsea Craddock of Owensboro and Summer Mudd of Caneyville. 14 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews also survive. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Amos Hack.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. February 17, 2012 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville. Burial will be in the Pleasant Union cemetery.

Linda Sue Boone
(September 1, 1948 - February 16, 2012)

Linda Sue Boone, age 63, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Thursday, (February 16, 2012) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, Kentucky.

She was born on September 1, 1948, in Grayson Co., Kentucky, the daughter of the late Calvin H. and Grace Lile Cash. She was a retired clerk for the Grayson and Hardin County Health Departments, where she served for nearly twenty-five years. She was a Kentucky Colonel, and enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, knitting, cooking, and gardening. She was also a member of the Leitchfield Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Clay Boone (Kim) of Clarkson, and David Boone McCash (Robin) of Nicholasville, KY; and four grandchildren, Lance and Shea Boone, and Ian and Samantha McCash.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin H. and Grace Lile Cash.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (February 19, 2012) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Lee Schroerlucke will be officiating. Burial will be in the Lile cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time of service.
