Charles Franklin Thomas

Charles Franklin Thomas, 70, of Hawesville went to be with the Lord with family at his side on December 9, 2015 at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville. Charles was born in Owensboro on December 6, 1945 to the late Richard and Margie Fulton Thomas. He was a cross country truck driver where he drove in every state but Alaska and Hawaii and was a Navy veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and had many friends. He was preceded in death by a sister Francis Louise Brown and a brother in law Jackie Henderson Brown.

Survivors include his wife Murline Newton Thomas; two daughters Jessica Fischbeck and Ann Thomas; four step children Bonnie Tindle, Mitch Taylor, Jeff Taylor and Ben Taylor; six brothers and a sister Carroll (Mevy) Thomas, Shirley Sanders, Bob (Sandi) Thomas, Donald Thomas, Geary Thomas, Mike (Lisa) Thomas and Dennis (Cara) Thomas; thirteen grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2:00 pm Sunday December 13, 2015 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 am until service time.

Lonard Wayne Newton

Lonard Wayne Newton, 74, of Hawesville died Thursday December 3, 2015 at his home with his family at his side. Wayne was born on March 12, 1941 in Ohio Co. to the late Lonard H. and Alberta Lyons Newton. Wayne was a member of Patesville Baptist Church, retired from Aleris in 1998, after 31 years of service and loved his farm where he always had horses. He was preceded in death by a son Dennis Newton and a sister Alma Catherine Crowe.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Landah Faye Corley Newton; two daughters Kathy Prince and Melissa (Dennis) Roberts; six grandchildren Zach (Bridgett) Prince, Blake (Kelli) Prince, Josh (Samantha) Ditto, Cydnee Prince, Destiny Roberts and Denny Roberts; two great grandchildren Alivia and Declan; a brother Dayne (Diana) Newton; two sisters Naomi (Cobb) Patrick and Wanda (Steve) Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2:00 pm Sunday December 6, 2015 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville. Burial will be in Serenity Hills. Wayne’s family will greet friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Saturday and from 7:00 am until service time Sunday.

June LaMar “Maw” Fowler

June LaMar “Maw” Fowler, 94, a longtime resident of Hawesville, passed away on November 28, 2015 at White House Healthcare in White House, TN. She was born in Dawson, OK on July 5, 1921 to the late Holden and Flossie Rees Hedgecock. While residing in Hawesville, June was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She sang in local community theater performances and directed Immaculate Conception grade school musicals (including a Roaring 20’s musical review that the Hancock Clarion quoted one observer as being the best county 4H performance they could remember).June was a devoted mother, grandmother and an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, her son Gragg and a sister, Sammye Speegel.

June is survived by two daughters, Viki Fowler (John Kelleher) of S. Dartmouth, MA and Lisa Fowler Smith (Tim) of Gallatin, TN; three sons, Robert Fowler (Patricia) of Owensboro, Shane Fowler (Monica) of Lexington and Patrick Fowler (Audrey Brisson) of Moorestown, NJ; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial following in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Hawesville. June’s family will be greeting friends on Wednesday from 4 pm until 8 pm, prayers to be said at 5 pm, and on Thursday from 7 am until 10:30 am at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Hortense Long Aull

Hortense Long Aull, 94, of Hawesville passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Heartland Villa with her family by her side. She was born in Lewisport on February 3, 1921 to the late Harmon and Cynthia Bozarth Long. Hortense was a member of Hilldale United Methodist Church and was retired from Hancock County School System. She loved quilting and left behind her legacy of many beautiful quilts. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Aull, a daughter Brenda Aull Pagel, sisters, Katherine Hayden and Juanita Nutt, a brother Harmon Long, Jr., a special niece Hortense Wayne Brown and her longtime sidekick, Rufus.

She is survived by two daughters Shirley (Jack) Cornett of Lenoir, NC and Sherry (David) Crisp of Philpot; three sons, Donnie (Brenda) Aull of Parish, Fl, Bobby (Sandy) Aull of Owensboro and Rick (Dereda) Aull of Owensboro; 8 grandchildren, Greg (Deanna) Inman, Scott (Linda) Inman, Lisa Inman, Shannon (Brian) Wynne, Teresa (Todd) Herold, Michael (Tonya) Harrison, Ryan (Julie) Aull and Jansen Hidenrite; 15 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a brother, L.W. Long of Hawesville; several nieces and nephews along with extended family, Dale & Versie Outerbridge, Joe & Rene Kreisle and Greg & Jill Brown.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Hilldale United Methodist Church with burial following in Serenity Hills. Hortense’s family will be greeting friends on Saturday from 4 pm until 8 pm and on Sunday from 7 am until 1:30 pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville. Memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Villa, Activities, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Judy Payne Smith

Judy Payne Smith, 70, of Hawesville went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday November 14, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Judy was born on April 1, 1945 in Hawesville to the late James and Jamie Brown Payne. She was a housewife and a member of Blackford Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister Jill Payne.

Survivors include her husband Leroy Smith; a son Jeff Smith; a sister Janice (Jerry) Powers; a brother Jimmy (Carla) Payne and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11:00 am Tuesday November 17, 2015 at Blackford Baptist Church. Burial will be in Blackford Baptist Church cemetery. Judy’s family will greet friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday and from 7:00 am until 10:30 pm Tuesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville.

Charles Roland Duffee

Charles Roland Duffee, 79, of Hawesville passed away on November 9, 2015 at Owensboro Center. He was born in Sylacauga, Ala. On August 4, 1930 to the late Jack and Lola Calloway Duffee. Charles was member of Union Baptist Church and was a retired construction worker. He attended and played football for Troy State University, was a Member of The Masons and spent some of his retired years working at Bill’s IGA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Webb Duffee.

Survivors include his four children, Jan Barrow, Jill Angelo, Charles Duffee and Jack Duffee; three step children, Raymond Webb, Debbie Simpson and Sue Cambron; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a niece, Debbie Johns.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville with burial following in Serenity Hills. Charles’ family will be greeting guests on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

James Daniel Brown

James Daniel Brown, 79, of Hawesville, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at his home. He was born in Cloverport on Januar 3, 1936 to the late Charles and Cora Aldridge Brown. James was retired from American Olean Tile Company in Cloverport and was a member of Moose Lodge and Eagles in Owensboro. He enjoyed working, farming, hunting, fishing, boating/skiing, playing Texas Hold’e, 3 card poker, bingo and most of all, spending time with his family and his dog, Dove. James was preceded in death by four siblings, Charles Brown, George Brown, Lucille Pierce and Venita Burk.

Survivors include his companion of 22 years, Betty J. Jewell; six children, James W. Brown, Gerald “Jerry” Brown (Diana), Kenneth Brown, Pam Criss (Rick), Christy Lane and Angie Payne; 4 step children, Charles “Charlie Calloway, James Christopher “Chris” Morton, Carolyn Brown and Natasha Watkins (Chad); several grand and great grandchildren; a brother in law/friend, Charles Calloway along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville with burial following in Serenity Hills. James’ family will be greeting guests on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 7 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Dorene DeJarnette McBride

Dorene DeJarnette McBride, 83, of Hawesville, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on April 30, 1932 in Hancock County to the late Lafe and Lona Mae Cahal DeJarnette. Dorene was member of Mt. Eden Baptist Church and was a retired beautician. She loved spending time with her family, quilting, crocheting, baking, gardening and anything to get outdoors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh McBride and a brother, Myrvin DeJarnette.

Survivors include two daughters, April (James) Lawton and Frances McBride; four sons, Steve (Leda) McBride, James Harvey (Karen) McBride, Brian David (Grayce) McBride and Greg (Donna) McBride; 14 grandchildren, Meghann (Michael) Johnson, Jameson Robert Lawton, Nick (Stephanie) McBride, Karah (Jeff) Zinski, James (Jessica) McBride, B.J. (Christine) McBride, Jameson (Bre) McBride, Kristina McBride, Patrick McBride, Madeline McBride, Brad (Donna) Burden, Lindsey Harper, Justin (Jordan) King and Kelsey Roberts; great grandchildren, Payton and Addison Johnson, Macie McBride, Allison and Aidan McBride, Michael McBride, Anthony and Cayden Bozarth, Eva Marie Burden, Issac, Abbigail, and Colby King and Kayden Roberts; a sister, Iris Fay Covetts; sister in laws, Mildred DeJarnette, Wanda Jones and Mary Ann McBride; brother in law, Clay (Dorothy) McBride and an adopted daughter, Marcia (Bobby) Bivins along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Mt. Eden Baptist Church with burial following in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Hawesville. Dorene’s family will be greeting guests at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Eden Baptist Church.

Mary Lee Rice Morris

Mary Lee Rice Morris, 74, of Hawesville died Tuesday January 19, 2016 at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, IN. Mary was born on June 28, 1941 in Hawesville to the late Robert and Mary Ruth Sipes Morris. She was of the Methodist faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Allan Rice.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Flewallen; two sons, Bobby Rice and Kenny Rice; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Dawson and Polina Campbell; five brothers, Terry Morris, Earl Morris, Larry Morris, David Morris and Harrison Morris and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church cemetery. Mary’s family will greet friends from 3 PM until 8 PM Friday and from 7 AM until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Frances Evelyn DeJarnette Reid

Frances Evelyn DeJarnette Reid, 88, of Hawesville, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Owensboro Center. She was born on April 7, 1927 in Hancock County to the late Hugh and Lois Powers DeJarnette. Frances was a member of Cloverport Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading, flea markets and loved to play Tetris on her Nintendo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lathrop Reid; son, Stephen Reid; two brothers, Robert DeJarnette and Barry DeJarnette.

Survivors include her two daughters, Rebecca Gray (Dickie) and Terri Reid; 6 grandchildren, Amanda Hawkins (Toby), April Gray, George Gray, Stephen Gray, Chris DeJarnette (Julie) and Julia Alvey (David) along with several great grandchildren; a sister, Judith Hancock; two brothers, Sherrill Burden and David Burden (Vickie) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville with burial in Cloverport cemetery. Frances’ family will be greeting friends from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. William (Billy) J. Eberle, Jr.

William (Billy) J. Eberle, Jr, 71, of Tell City, IN left to go be with his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2015 with His sister and brother in law by his side. Billy was born on October 13, 1944 in Tell City, IN to the late William J. and Eva Eberle. Billy was a member of Hawesville Baptist Church, drove a truck for SIRS, Worked in book binding for SIRS and worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Co. He was preceded in death by his father William J. Eberle and mother Eva McFarling Buford .

He leaves to cherish his memory his step father John Buford; a sister Jane (Stephen) Hess; a niece Janean Hess (Keil) Kasier; a nephew Stephen Hess and Special friends Joe and Tammy Daniel and Jack and Rebecca Apling. A special thanks to Maxium Health Care.

Services are at 2:00 pm Sunday January 3, 2015 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville. Burial will be in Serenity Hills in Hawesville. Billy’s family will greet friends Saturday from 4:00 pm until 8:00pm Saturday and from 10:00 am until service time at the Funeral Home.

Everett A. Roberts

Everett A. Roberts, 83, of Maceo passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Heartford House. He was born on April 5, 1932 in Daviess County to the late F.W. and Myrtle Roberts. Everett was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Maceo and was a lifelong farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving our country during the Korean Conflict. Everett was preceded in death by 5 sisters Ethel Poole, Dorothy Staples, Lorene Howard, Thelma Duncan and Bea Hall; Three brothers, Owen, Clyde and Gene Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pauline Cambron Roberts; Neices and nephews, Pasty (Jessie) Daniels, Joe (Theresa Powell) Keithley, Tommy Howard, Tony Duncan, Rick (Margie) Duncan, Sheila (Wilton) Powell, Sue (Gene) Frazier, Peggy (Garness) Willard, Shirley (Charlie) Young, Mike (Janice) Roberts, Charlotte (Carl) Snyder, Lavon Gail Roberts, Brenda (JR) Logsdon, Connie (Bob) Simmons, Stacy (Janet) Roberts, Rick (Becky) Roberts and Edna (Jim) Drury; a sister in law, Doris Roberts also many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Taylor Chapel in Lewisport, KY with burial following in Lewisport cemetery. Everett’s family will be greeting friends on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Maceo, KY: envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Tammy Jones Cox

Tammy Jones Cox passed away peacefully in her home in Lewisport on Tuesday, January 12. She was 51. Tammy was an LPN and found joy in caring for people of all ages. Tammy also had a love of babysitting which kept her young at heart.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Donnie Cox of Lewisport; her parents H.W. and Margie Jones of Milton, FL; her son Airman Stephen "Drew" (Beth) Basham of Pearl City, HI and daughter Emilee (Matt) Phillips of Owensboro, KY; and her dog, her best friend Maggie.

Other survivors include siblings Ricky Jones of Lewisport, KY; Susie (Dennis) Taylor of New Market, AL; Skip (Tina) Jones of Robertsdale, AL; and several neices, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Those who knew Tammy loved her for her sense of humor and her unending love for children.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 17 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Taylor Chapel in Lewisport, KY from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm with Pastor Bob White speaking at 4:00 pm.

Grace R. “Bobbie” Buckman

Grace R. “Bobbie” Buckman, 84, of Lewisport, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Heartford House/Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Columbia, PA on September 5, 1931 to the late Paul J. and Elizabeth Engle Raber. Bobbie was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and served our country in the United States Army during World War II. Bobbie enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning. She was preceded in death by husband, Henry R. “Rudy” Buckman.

Survivors include her two daughters, Leveta (J.D.) Kirk of Lewisport and Rose Beauchamp of Lewisport; a son, John (Maureen) Buckman of Pittsburgh, PA; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren; three siblings, Frances Cranford, Rose McNaught and John Raber all of Pennsylvania along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Taylor Chapel, Lewisport with burial following in Lewisport cemetery. Bobbie’s family will be greeting friends on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.; prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening and 8 a.m. until service time at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartford House/Hospice of Western Kentucky; envelopes available at funeral home or donate at www.hospiceofwky.org. Scott W. Roberts

Scott W. Roberts, 45, of Lewisport, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Owensboro on March 19, 1970 to Charles W. and Gloria Huff Roberts. Scott was of the Baptist faith and was a painter. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Roberts, a brother, Charles Eugene Roberts and a daughter, Charlie Roberts.

Survivors include his mother, Gloria (Doug) Alexander; two sisters, Krista Roberts and Jamie Roberts; six nieces and nephews, Heather, Katie, Tiffany, Dallas, Ethan and Jacob, along with several cousins.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Taylor Chapel, Lewisport. There will be no services and burial will be at a later date.

Roger Leo Basham

Roger Leo Basham, 57, of Lewisport, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22, 2015 while resting at home peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side. Roger was born on March 6, 1958 in Owensboro to Leo and Eileen Hagan Basham. Roger was a member of St Columba Catholic Church, was a 37 year employee of Domtar/Hawesville Operations, a past president of PACE local 1261 and served on the board of Kraftcor Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed helping others, playing music on his guitar and mandolin, spending time on his farm and spending time with family and friends. He served his community with 30+years of service in the Lewisport Lions Club, serving two terms as president and one term as Vice District Governor.

Roger had a special place in his heart for children and enjoyed helping Martil babysit numerous youngsters over the years. He and Martil were proud to stand as God Parents to nieces Brea and Brenna Basham.

Roger will be missed by his wife of 38 years, Martil Estes Basham, two daughters, Shannon (Dave) Case, Ashley (Jim) DiMarco, and his son Dakota (and loving friend, Savannah Meade), two grandchildren Zac and Zoe Case, his parents, Leo and Eileen Basham. Also missing his warm and loving personality are his three sisters, Donna Bryant, Jan (Fred) Goodwin, Sheila (Dan) Estes, his three brothers, Steve (Sherry Pike), Shelby (Sherry), and Scott (Rhonda), his in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Saturday December 26, 2015 at St Columba Catholic Church. Burial will be in Estes Family cemetery. Roger’s family will be greeting friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday with prayers at 6:00 pm and from 8:00 am until service time Saturday at the Church. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to a charitable organization of your choice.

Gary Samuel Pell

Gary Samuel Pell, 67, of Lewisport passed away on Tuesday December 15, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born November 19, 1948 to the late Sam and Ruth Pell. He was a Vietnam veteran and lived the remainder of his life at his parents’ home in Lewisport.

He loved to listen to his radio, talk politics and watch old movies and sports, especially his favorite Chicago Cubs and Louisville Cardinals. He had a kind heart and tired to take care of the stray cats around his home.

He is survived by a sister and brother in law Sherry and Dennis Snyder; nephews Jason Snyder and Daren Snyder (Polly) both of Owensboro and two great nieces Penelope and Avery Snyder and a great nephew Boppa Godfrey of Owensboro.

Services are at 2:00 pm Thursday December 17, 2015 in the Taylor Chapel at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport. Burial will be in Lewisport cemetery. Gary’s family will be greeting visitors from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock County Animal Shelter.
