Robert W. (Arkie) Estes

Robert W. (Arkie) Estes, 72, of Maceo passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at his home. He was born in Maceo on New-Cut Road to the late James Hubert and Helena Bowlds Estes. He was retired from W.R. Grace/Dow Chemicals. He enjoyed UK basketball, NASCAR, and was a farmer at heart. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife and best friend for 23 years, Shelia Lucas Estes; four sons: Robert Estes and Curtis Estes of Kingston, TN, Jeff Estes of Taylor Mill, KY and Lucas Skutt of Indianapolis, IN; a daughter, Pamela Moranda of Sylva, NC; fifteen grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and five sisters: Mary Francullo of Lynn, MA, Barbara Brown of Philpot, Ginny Ray of Maceo, Judy Powers of Hawesville, and Maxine Stroud of Owensboro. He was a special brother.

Services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the Taylor Chapel at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport. Burial will be private. Robert’s family will greet guests from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday and from 9:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Anna Louise Heltsley

Anna Louise Heltsley, 85, of Lewisport, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. She was born in Hancock County on January 4, 1930 to the late JW and Fronia Newton Jones. Anna was a member of First Baptist Church in Lewisport and worked for the Hancock County School System as an office aide. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Anna and her husband, Warren traveled around the area singing gospel music at many locations and churches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Heltsley, a granddaughter, Julie Heltsley, a son in law, Sheral Byard, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Byard; a son, Warren L. (Deanna) Heltsley; 11 grandchilren; 23 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eva Murl Hancock and Zella McCaslin along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., December 2, 2015 in the Taylor Chapel of Gibson & Son Funeral, Lewisport with burial following in Calhoun cemetery. Anna’s family will be greeting friends on Tuesday from 3 pm until 8 pm and on Wednesday from 9 am until service time at the funeral home.

Virginia Alice “Jitter” Wood

Virginia Alice “Jitter” Wood, 77, of Owensboro, gained her Heavenly wings on October 29, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Daviess County, KY on June 7, 1938 to the late Jack and Lora Mae Lynch Riley. Jitter attended Owensboro Christian Church and was retired from Welborn’s as a floral designer. She loved crafts and interior decorating. Jitter was also considered a garage sale aficionado by her family and friends. She enjoyed being a stay at home Mom when her girls were growing up. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Alysa Yewell.

Survivors include three daughters Sandy Smith, Misty & Joey Isbill and Toni Morrison; four grandchildren April, Conor, Josh and Trey; three great grandchildren Kinley, Addison and Grace; a niece Lynn Sears and a brother Samuel King Riley (Pamela); a nephew, Alan Frakes and her faithful companion LaLa.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday November 7, 2015 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home Lewisport, in the Taylor Chapel. Jitter’s family will greet guests from 10:00 am until service time Saturday. Burial will be private.

Ruth Boswell Brown

Ruth Boswell Brown, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 04, 2015. Ruth was born in Daviess County on March 18, 1923, daughter of the late Hiram (Hollie) and Ida Moore Boswell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Hubert Brown, on September 12, 2010. Ruth was one of six children, all deceased: Nannie (Delmar) Shadwich, Willia (Earl) Brown, Rev. Walter (Vivian) Boswell, Edgar (Bernice) Boswell, and her twin, Ralph. Edna, Ralph’s widow, is survived.

“Boo-Boo” as she is affectionately called by her grandchildren, great-grand children, nieces and nephews, was an anchor in the Boswell / Brown family. She was a woman of faith and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her gift of joy and laughter will never be forgotten. She loved life and attacked it with enthusiasm. She looked at life as a gift from God and approached every day with this attitude. Ruth’s love and faith was an example to all she met.

Ruth was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Daviess County. During her 66 years of membership, she served as a Sunday School teacher and UMYF leader for many decades; Lay Leader for 8 years, and Chairperson of numerous church committees. She was dedicated to God and seeked ways to serve. She served on the Yelvington Campmeeting Board. During her early years, she was a member of the Yelvington Homemakers Club.

She retired from the Elizabeth Munday Senior Citizens Center as the Activities Director of 12 years from 1983-1995. She loved her job and this radiated in her work. She was in her element planning and escorting the senior citizens trips. She loved the seniors and spread a lot of joy to those around her. Previously, she worked in retail as the manager of the Fancy Fox, and the decorating assistant at Sherwin-Williams Paint Store. During her lifetime, Ruth also had numerous unofficial titles: fashion consultant, matchmaker, wedding planner, barber/beautician, and party coordinator.

Her hobbies included shopping, reading, and playing games. She especially enjoyed cooking the Sunday and celebration dinners when the family came together.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna(Dean) Carlton of Lewisport and a son, Victor Kirk(Kay) Brown of Goodlettsville, TN.; Granddaughters: Amy(Warren) Fegenbush of Crestwood, Ky., Holly(Jon Jay) Byrd of Alvaton, Ky., Melissa(Robert) Dow of Franklin, TN. And Megan(Andrew) Klope of Nolensville, TN. Great-Grandchildren: Hannah, Andrew, Wesley Fegenbush, Abigail and Allie Grace Byrd, and Leah and Macy Dow; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Services are Saturday at 10am at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Daviess County. Ruth will be laid to rest by her husband at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4pm-7:30pm on Friday at Gibson and Son Funeral Home in Lewisport and Saturday at 9am until service time at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethlehem U.M.C., envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Patricia Lynn (Alford) Coffee
November 13, 1952 - January 16, 2017 (age 64)

Mrs. Patricia Alford Coffee, age 64 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Monday, January 16, 2017 at her residence.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 with burial to follow in the Whites Chapel Church cemetery in Warren Co., KY.

Mrs. Coffee was born November 13, 1952 to the late Garland Alford and Eunice McDonald Alford who survives of Franklin, KY.

She is survived by 2 children Lori Hudson Sherrell and Kelly Thomas Yates both of Bowling Green, KY., 3 brothers Larry Alford of Portland, TN., Lanny Alford of Franklin, KY. and Billy Alford of Albany, KY., 2 sisters Linda Mock of Franklin, KY. and Peggy Crafton of Portland, TN., 4 grandchildren Ashley Rimington (Robert), Tyler Hudson (Haley), Kelsey Yates and Dalton Emmit, 2 great grandchildren Kate Rimington and Annalynn Hudson and her dogs LuLu, FeFe, Corky, Roxy and Tessa.

Mrs. Coffee was a member of El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and was a clerk at Lanny’s Market.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 and from 6:00 AM until service time at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Conway Eubanks
August 27, 1927 - January 17, 2017 (age 89)

Mr. Jewell Conway Eubanks, age 89 of Franklin, KY, entered into rest Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 4:35 PM at Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Maple Hill cemetery in Portland, TN.

A native of Robertson Co., TN, he was the son of the late Elijah Guillington Eubanks and the late Hattie Mae Meador Eubanks.

He is survived by his 2 sons Dennis Eubanks (Renee) of Franklin, KY and Jeff Eubanks of Brentwood, TN, 2 daughters Tynell Moore (Danny) of Springfield, TN and Kim Sharer of Franklin, KY; a brother Clayton Eubanks of Madison, TN and a sister Martha Short of Portland, TN; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mr. Eubanks was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church and an Army veteran.

Visitation will begin Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 3:30 PM until 8:00 PM and there will be no visitation Friday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Jack Ellis
September 7, 1923 - January 15, 2017 (age 93)

Mr. Jack Ellis, age 93 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 7:22 PM at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 21, 2017 with burial to follow in the Salem Church cemetery in Simpson Co., KY. with military honors by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

A native of Simpson Co., KY., he was the son of the late Francis Roy Ellis and the late Joseph Juddy Hinton Ellis. He was the husband of the late Dianne Ellis. A sister Margaret Holloway preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa Ellis Roedemeier (Gary) of Prospect, KY., a grandson Jordan Lake of Louisville, KY., a special friend Bettye Goodrum of Franklin, KY., a niece Judy Steers (Lee) of Scottsdale, AZ and a sister-in-law Billie Jones of Rockfield, KY.

Mr. Ellis was a member of the Franklin First United Methodist Church and attended the West Madison Baptist Church. He was retired owner of Ellis Auto Sales of Franklin, KY. He was a Navy Veteran and was past president of the Franklin Country Club and was a former member of the New Salem Masonic Lodge.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 and from 6:00 AM until service time on Saturday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Harold Dean Hesson
September 29, 1937 - January 19, 2017 (age 79)

Mr. Harold Dean Hesson, age 79 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 11:33 PM at the Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 22, 2017 with burial to follow in the Sulphur Spring cemetery in Simpson Co., KY.

A native of Sumner Co., TN. he was the son of the late Hubert Hesson and the late Christine Dobbs Hesson. He was the husband of the late Shirley Hesson.

He is survived by 4 daughters Judy West, Dena Cantrell (Tommy), Sharon Edwards and Connie McCoy (Roy) all of Franklin, KY., 5 sisters Arzella Jent, Brenda Wimpee, Lorene Finn and Kathy Sparks all of Franklin, KY. and Linda Daniels of Muncie, IN., 5 brothers Gene and James Hesson both of Franklin, KY., Randy Hesson of Lewisburg, KY., Kenneth Hesson of Alvaton, KY., and Joe Hesson Russellville, KY., 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Mr. Hesson was a farmer.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2016 and from 6:00 AM until funeral service time on Sunday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Betty Lou (Cornwell) Bush
January 21, 1931 - January 21, 2017 (age 86)

Mrs. Betty L. Bush, age 86 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2:45 AM at the Medical Center in Franklin, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2017, with burial to follow in the Greenlawn cemetery in Franklin, KY.

Mrs. Bush was born January 21, 1931 in Franklin, KY. to the late Henry Cornwell and the late Velma Rutherford Cornwell. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers Marshall and Jim Cornwell and a sister Margaret Eubanks.

She is survived by her husband, Haskel Bush, a daughter Leann Carr of Indianapolis, IN., 2 sons Jack Bush (Tanya) of Bowling Green, KY. and Alan Bush (Melissa) of Franklin, KY., 6 grandchildren James, Jarrod, Zach, Austin and Cassie Bush and Angel Lloyd, 3 great grandchildren Tyler and Rylan Bush and Sydney O’Conner.

Mrs. Bush was a member of the Bethany Church of Christ and was a homemaker.

She graduated from Franklin Simpson high school 1949. She was voted most athletic female of her graduating class. She worked at Western Electric (Indianapolis) making phones from 1957-1965, worked at Sears in lady dresses from 1966-1970.

She was active in the community working as judge in elections, volunteering schools as a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA secretary, and Sunday School Teacher. Once we went through 2 feet of snow to get to church on a Wednesday night bible class.

She loved to watch all levels basketball with intensity from Southport H.S. Cardinals, Purdue Boilermakers to the Kentucky Wildcats. Taught me to love the game!

She planned wonderful vacations to Washington D.C., Florida, Smokey Mountains, Indiana Beach, and Missouri/St. Louis history designations. Real history buff!

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, January 23, 2017, and from 6:00 AM until funeral service time on Tuesday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Bethany Church of Christ, Potters Children’s Home or the American Diabetes Association.

Rachel Elizabeth Barber
August 4, 1944 - January 22, 2017 (age 72)

Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth Barber, age 72 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 5:14 AM at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2017 with burial to follow in the Greenlawn cemetery in Franklin, KY.

A native of Indianapolis, IN. she was the daughter of the late Oscar Allen Denham and the late Jennie Bell Yokley Denham. She was the wife of the late Billy Joe Barber. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Lynn Barber and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by 2 daughters Teresa Diane Houchens(Jeff) of Glasgow, KY. and Billie Jean "Jeannie" Waid (Mark) of Franklin, KY., 2 sisters Gladys Kendall and Virginia Gregory both of Franklin, KY., 4 grandchildren Brenda Logan, Jason and Johnathan Graves and Dusty Waid, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

Mrs. Barber was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and had worked at Potter & Brumfield and retired from Oskosh.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday, January 24, 2017 and from 6:00 AM until funeral service time on Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Will D. Brown
March 25, 1930 - January 28, 2017 (age 86)

Mr. Will D. Brown, age 86 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 5:45 AM at the Medical Center in Franklin, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2017 with burial to follow in the McKendree Chapel Church cemetery in Simpson Co., KY. with military honors by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

A native of Wilson Co., TN., he was the son of the late Willie Brown and the late Mary Brown. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters Ruth Brown and Myrtle Rake and 2 brothers John Lee Brown and James Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Eleanor Brown, a brother Jerry Brown of Lebanon, TN., a niece Janis Hernandez of Helena, Montana and a nephew Stan Duke of Lavergne, TN.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and U.A.W. Ford Motor Co. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Nashville after 32 years and was a Korean War Army Veteran.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, January 30, 2017 and from 6:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at Gilbert Funeral Home.
