Nancy Johnson Brown

December 14, 1910 - April 1, 2005

Nancy Johnson Brown, 94, Cave City, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the NHC Healthcare Center. A native of Taylor County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. N. A. Johnson and Sarah Martin Johnson. She was a homemaker and long-time member of Salem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brown is survived by two sons, Jesse R. Brown and wife, Bernice, of Glasgow, and Allen B. Brown and wife, Zona, of Cave City; four grandchildren, Sam Brown and wife, Laura, of Glasgow, Keith Brown and wife, Tina, of Cave City, Jeanelle McGuire and husband, Jeff, of Glasgow, and Kim Overstreet and husband, Mark, of Lexington; special friends, Roger and Dan Leischer of Watertown, Wisconsin; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse M. Brown, a great-granddaughter, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon Sunday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Kosair Charities or the National SIDS Foundation.

Vanetta Brown

December 10, 1936 - September 4, 2008

Vanetta M. Brown, 71, Oklahoma, died Thursday, September 04, 2008, in Glasgow. A native of Metcalfe County, she was a daughter of Cephus Garmon and the late Ivera Hagan Garmon. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Blane “Brownie” Brown; two daughters, Shirley Napier and husband, Jackie, and Jo Rita England and husband, Timothy, all of Glasgow; five grandchildren, Trevor Napier, Amy Stockton (Joey), Jeremy Napier (Tinisha), Jason England (Christie), and Kasey England (Lance Mizell); four great-grandchildren, Courtney Houchens, Sierra Napier, Zachary England and Paisley England; three sisters, Vangelene Sexton (Freeman), Alyne Froedge (Ancel) and Vada Sexton; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Stacy Dodson and Zachary Napier; one brother-in-law, Challman Sexton.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

William H. "Bill" Brown

February 6, 1958 - August 5, 2001

William H. “Bill” Brown, 43, formerly of Glasgow, died Sunday at his residence in Bowling Green. He was a salesman of gifts and collectibles.

Survivors include his mothers, Alene Brown of Bowling Green and Beulah Furlong of Glasgow; five brothers, David R. Brown and his wife, Pam of Glasgow, Jerry Brown and his wife, Kay of Bowling Green, Danny Brown of Bowling Green, Chester Stiles of Summer Shade and Ernest Turner of Killeen, TX.; three sisters, Eugonda Wyatt and her husband, Don of Scottsville, Debbie Smith and her husband, Harold of Bowling Green and Burdene Williams of Glasgow; several nieces and nephews including Kimberly, April and Katie along with several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Woodard Furlong and James L. Brown and four brothers, Leroy Stiles, J.B. Turner, James L. “Jimmy” Brown and Tommy Brown.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jewell "Dee" Brownfield

October 23, 1924 - January 21, 2004

Jewell “Dee” Brownfield, 79, Glasgow, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the NHC Health Care Center after a lengthy illness. A son of the late Robert (Bob) and Minnie Sowers Brownfield, he was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge, Tracy United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Glasgow Electric Motor Repair.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Eaton Brownfield; one daughter, Marla Houchens; one grandson, Chad Houchens and his wife, Leighanne; one granddaughter, Micah Houchens; one brother, Wendell Brownfield; two sisters, Anna Gibbs and Mary McGuire all of Glasgow; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Brownfield and Eugene Brownfield.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2004, the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery . Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Wendell M. Brownfield

March 31, 1915 - May 3, 2004

Wendell M. “Brownie” Brownfield, 89, long time resident of Louisville, died Monday, May 03, 2004, at the NHC Health Care Center in Glasgow, where he spent his last one and half years.

He was known as the “tire man of Louisville ” where he was associated with Hurry Up Broadway, Time Tire of Louisville, and Fleet Tire of New Albany, IN until his retirement.

For many years, he served as Chairman of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Special Deputy Committee where he did an outstanding job. He was a loyal, faithful worshipper at First Baptist Church, Shepherdsville, KY. His unfailing courtesy, his sympathy and kindly spirit endeared him to so many members.

Wendell is survived by one daughter, Linda Kay Templeton of Coquitlam, British Columbia ; two sisters, Anna Gibbs and Mary McGuire of Glasgow; two grandsons and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; his parents, R.S. and Minnie Brownfield; and three brothers, Raymond, Eugene and Jewell “Dee” Brownfield of Glasgow .

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. (CDT) Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, 801 North Race Street, Glasgow, with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. (CDT) Wednesday at the funeral home. Thomas J. Browning

September 10, 1917 - February 13, 2005

Thomas J. “Bus” Browning, 87 of Glasgow, died Sunday, February 13, 2005 at his residence after a long illness He was the son of the late Thomas J. Browning and Irene Pargin Browning. He was a veteran of WWII and also a tool and die machinist in Chicago, Illinois until he retired in 1972.

He is survived by his wife Rose Ann Browning; one daughter: Jan Browning and one stepdaughter Jenny Powell of Warner Robins, Georgia.

There will be no visitation or funeral.

Nell P. Browning

September 12, 1900 - December 8, 2002

Nell P. Browning, 102, Glasgow, died Sunday at the Barren County Health Care Center. Born September 12, 1900, she was a daughter of the late W.C. and Eva Pritchard. A homemaker, she was the widow of the late D. R. Browning and a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Pearl Greer and Lela Jackson, both of Glasgow; four nephews, Billy Pritchard, Earl Jackson and Jerry Greer all of Glasgow, James Pritchard of Indianapolis, IN; two nieces, Gloria Brown of Elizabethtown and Wanda Garrett of Glasgow; several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Roger Pritchard, Ray Pritchard, Lawrence Pritchard and Will Pritchard; a sister, Katherine Pritchard.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Roger A. Bruner

Roger A. Bruner, 57, Brandenburg, died Saturday at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville. He was a former resident of Glasgow and an employee of Sorensen’s.

Survivors include a son, Jacob Bruner; a daughter, Angela Bruner Gott; three grandchildren, Andrea Bruner, Taylor Gott and Stanton Gott; two sisters, Delores L. Baker and Connie Baldwin; and a brother, Donald E. Bruner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Ray Bruner and a daughter, Mollie Ray Bruner.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday at the W.G. Hardy-Valley Chapel, 10907 Dixie Highway, Louisville. Visitation will be from 10-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday at the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Dorothy Ratliff Bryant

October 11, 1921 - March 21, 2005

Dorothy Ratliff Bryant, 83, Glasgow, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby Collins Ratliff, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. William H. Bryant; one daughter, Sybl Fleming of Mt. Sterling; one son, Shawn Bryant, and his wife, Tammy, of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Dr. Scott Fleming of Lexington, Ginna Dombroskas of Louisville and Blake Fleming with U. S. Navy in Whidbey Island, Washington; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Fleming, Devyn Fleming and Anna Bryant Fleming; one brother, Thomas Ratliff of Maryland.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dr. William H. Bryant

June 10, 1919 - May 16, 2005

Dr. William Howard Bryant, 85, Glasgow, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. Born June 10, 1919, in Hiseville, Barren County, KY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Banks Howard Bryant. After graduation from Glasgow High School, he entered the University of Louisville School of Medicine and received his Medical Degree in 1942.

After graduation from medical school, Dr. Bryant entered the armed services. He served as a physician with the United States Army in the Philippines for 23 months during World War II and achieved the rank of Major. After his military service, he returned to Glasgow and entered into private medical practice as a surgeon. He was very instrumental with his uncle, Dr. C. C. Howard, in establishing the Howard Clinic in Glasgow. During his medical career, he remained dedicated to his love of family practice. He was also on the staff of the T. J. Samson Community Hospital, where he once served as Chief of Staff. Dr. Bryant remained active in his practice until his retirement in 1993.

Dr. Bryant was appointed to the first Board of Directors of the Glasgow Electric Plant Board in 1958. At the first meeting, he was elected Chairman, a position he held continuously for 35 years until his retirement.

Dr. Bryant was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Glasgow. He served in many capacities, including Elder, Trustee and Chairman of the Board. He was also active in many civic organizations including serving on the Executive Board of the Boy Scout Council.

Survivors include one daughter, Sybl Fleming of Mt. Sterling; one son, Shawn Bryant, and his wife, Tammy, of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Dr. Scott Fleming of Lexington, Ginna Dombroskas of Louisville and Blake Fleming with U. S. Navy in Whidbey Island, Washington; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Fleming, Devyn Fleming and Anna Bryant Fleming; one niece, Elaine Wade of Glasgow; one nephew, Dr. Russell Leftwich of Nashville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ratliff Bryant, on March 21, 2005; and his sister, Charlotte Bryant Leftwich, on September 5, 2002.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the First Christian Church with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Graciey Elizabeth Buchanan

April 23, 2004

Graciey Elizabeth Buchanan the infant daughter of Steven and Jennifer Buchanan. Besides her parents she is survived by her grandparents: Roy and Joyce Buchanan of Glasgow and Fred and Barbara Anglin of Glasgow ; great grandparents: Eve Buchanan of Indiana and Ilene Anglin of Missouri . Funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Saturday and after 1:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Kenneth Buckner

June 6, 1917 - January 21, 2006

W. Kenneth Buckner, 88, Glasgow, died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Hart County, he was a son of the late Dollie Joyce McCubbin and William Turner Buckner. He was an accountant, a member of the Barren County Rod and Gun Club, a member of TPA and a member of Glasgow Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and was a member of the Choir for 52 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Smith and her husband, Bill, of Glasgow; one son, Phillip Buckner and his wife, Phyllis, of Franklin, IN; four grandchildren, Lori Christian of Glasgow, Clay Smith of Boston, Seth Buckner of Greenwood, IN, and John Phillip Buckner of Griffin, GA; one brother, Boyce Buckner and his wife, Bonnie, of Tallahassee; two nephews, Kevin Buckner of Huntsville, AL, and Gary Buckner of Tallahassee; three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Harper Buckner and two brothers, Ray and Norman Buckner.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lizzie Dee Bunch

March 19, 1906 - April 8, 2004

Lizzie Dee Bunch, 98, formerly of the Beckton Community of Barren County, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Medical Center of Independence, Missouri. She had lived with her daughter, Margaret Patterson, in Independence for the past 10 years. Born March 19, 1906 in Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late James and Flora McClellan Slayton.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Patterson; four grandchildren, Sharon Myers, Rollin Patterson, Janice Letson and Gilda York; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandsons; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Bunch, and her son, Willard Bunch.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens . Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
