Clara Mae Compton

January 18, 1927 - August 8, 2001

Clara Mae Compton, 74, Lakeview Drive, Glasgow, died Wednesday at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital. A daughter of the late Fred and Libby Post Hale, she was a retired meat wrapper/butcher at Elmore & Payne Packing Company, a member of the Edmonton Chapter #470 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the widow of the late Memry Compton.

Survivors include one daughter, Donnie Meador of Glasgow; one son, Charles “Rick” Hale and his wife, Mary of Lagrange, North Carolina; four grandsons, Jason Meador of Glasgow, Steven Hale, David Hale and Michael Carmody, Jr. and his wife, Amy all of North Carolina; one brother, Russell Hale and his wife, Dale of Glasgow; one sister-in-law, Della Compton of Glasgow. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Lorene Syree and one brother, Charles R. Hale.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Eastern Star services will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Della Compton

November 8, 1906 - November 27, 2002

Della Compton, 96, Glasgow, died Wednesday in Glasgow. A daughter of the late Robert and Myrtie Turner Compton, she was a retired presser at Handmacher Fashions and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a niece, Donnie Meador of Glasgow; a great-nephew, Jason Meador of Glasgow; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Memry Compton, Ernest Compton, Otis Compton, Hershel Compton and Clay Compton; and three sisters, Mary Maupin, Montie Kerr and Corenia Hiser.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Harry Richard Coomer

August 22, 1943 - July 11, 2008

Harry Richard Coomer, 64, Hiseville, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at his residence. He was a son of the late Sarah Elizabeth Bravard Slaughter and Bill Coomer. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam Era, a retired boilermaker, a member of the Boilermakers’ Union Local Chapter 40 in Elizabethtown, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Bowling Green, a member of the VFW in Rowletts and a member of the Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Julia “Judy” Coomer; two sons, Barry Coomer and wife, Mary Shannon, of Hiseville, and J.W. Coomer and wife, Vivian, of Gamaliel; 8 grandchildren, Broche, Morgan, Coe, Heather, Kaley, Brianna, Kaytie and Hannah; four brothers, David Coomer, Charles “Pete” Coomer and Rick Coomer all of Kentucky, and Joe Coomer of Indiana; three sisters, Melissa Gay and Cathy Colgate of Louisville, Frances Welch of Scottsville; his step-mother, Shirley Coomer of Louisville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one step-brother, Anthony Brown.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV will be in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Steve Coomer

June 6, 1955 - February 18, 2005

Stanley Steven Coomer, 49, Glasgow, died Friday, February 18, 2005, in Edmonton. He had been an employee of R. R. Donnelley & Sons for 30 years and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one brother, Michael Coomer and his wife, Paula, of Glasgow; his aunts and uncles, Bill and Betty Coomer, Bobby and Judy Coomer, Frank and Opal Coomer, Nina Jean Thompson, Mary Alice Huddleston and Thurman and Genola Sexton all of Edmonton, Claude and Sarah Smith of Frankfort, IL, Dorothy Beck of Payless Hills, IL, Eugene and Rowena Sexton of Glasgow, Christine and Harlan Clemmons of IL and Paul and Dorothy Shirley of Louisville; numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Coomer and Carrie Murrel Shaw ; aunts and uncles, James “Fats” Coomer, Evelyn Coomer, Betty Hoover, Lena Wilson and Harbert and Edna Sexton.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2005, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ruby Cooper

February 1, 1926 - January 4, 2004

Ruby Chaplin Garrett Cooper, 77 of Orlando, FL formerly of Glasgow died Sunday, January 4, 2002 in Orlando, FL. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Elsie Dafran Chaplin.

She is survived by her son: Roger Dale Garrett of Orlando, FL; three sisters: Catherine Oakes of New Albany, IN, Barbara Hogan of Louisville, KY and Martha Honey of Chicago, IL; one brother: Melvin Chaplin of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren: Catherine Mayfield, Cynthia Moreno, Connie Griffian, Roger Dale Garrett, Shane Denver Garrett, Carrie Jean Garrett and Jason Thomas Garrett; Several great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral will be 10:00 A. M. Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery . Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

Mildred Crabtree

April 8, 1919 - May 17, 2002

Mildred P. Crabtree, 83, Glasgow, died Friday at the NHC Health Care Center. The daughter of the late Tom and Pernie Oliver Webb, she was a homemaker and a member of the Poplar Log Church of Christ.

Survivors include three children, Joe Crabtree and his wife, Marcia, of Illinois, Charlotte Marks and her husband, Gary, of Missouri, and Sue Stonerock of Glasgow; six grandchildren, Paula Eberhart and her husband, James, Eddie Vandenburg and his wife, Gayle, Bobby Joe Jones and his wife, Nancy, and Shelly Crabtree all of Illinois, Sarah Watts and her husband, Ike, of Missouri, and Joy Wilson and her husband, Wayne of Glasgow; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. preceded in death by her husband Robert B. “Bill” Crabtree.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log cemetery. Visitation will be 12 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home

Donald F. Craig

Donald F. Craig, 63, died Wednesday in Louisville. A native of Glasgow, he was the son of the late Estille and Dorothy Sidwell Craig and a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Glasgow High School and Purdue University. He received his Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisville and had spent his working career as a chemical engineer in the Louisville area.

Survivors include his sister, Gloria Johnas and her husband, Harvey, of Bellevue, Washington; one nephew, Craig Johnas of Washington; one aunt, Billie Craig Jones of Glasgow.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Tressie Crawhorn

July 27, 1917 - July 3, 2003

Tressie Stone Crawhorn, 85, Garmon Avenue, Glasgow, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Rennick and Minnie Tibbs Stone, a homemaker, a member of the Old Zion Methodist Church and the Glasgow Senior Citizens Quilters.

Survivors include one son, J. Vernon Crawhorn and wife, Marie, of Glasgow; two daughters, Marcella Smith and husband, Smitty, of Glasgow, and Norma Meredith and husband, Dallas, of Glasgow; one brother, Ernest Stone of Louisville; two sisters, Ruby Barnes and Maydell Heflin both of Louisville; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Milton Crawhorn and one daughter, Carol McCoy and her husband, Cecil.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Old Zion cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Doris Jean Crews

April 14, 1950 - May 22, 2007

Doris Jean Burton Crews, 57, Smiths Grove, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at her residence. A daughter of the late Willie and Mae Lee Post Burton, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky Crews and Charles Crews both of Glasgow, one daughter, Karen Jessie and husband, Jamie, of Glasgow; six grandchildren, including Emily Foster, Troy Dillon Crews and Ally Faith Crews; one great-grandchild, Alayna Cheyenne Branham; two sisters, Carolyn Wheeler and Carrie Smith of Glasgow; four brothers, William Burton and Robert Burton of Jeffersonville, IN, Rex Burton of Bowling Green, Donnie Burton of Louisville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Donnie Christopher Branham.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
