Barbara J. Honeycutt

March 17, 1929 - February 10, 2007

Barbara Richardson Jones Honeycutt

Barbara Honeycutt, affectionately called “Bob” by all of her friends and family, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 10, 2007. “Bob” was born on March 17, 1929, the youngest of the “Five Jones Girls” from Glasgow. It was in Glasgow that “Bob” met her high school sweetheart, Charlie B. Honeycutt, and eventually married him soon after his return from service in WWII. They then attended Transylvania College in Lexington, where “Bob” received her B.A. in Education. Following a brief stay in Benham, KY, she moved back to Glasgow to teach and raise her family. She taught English, Folklore, French, and Spanish in Glasgow High School for over 30 years. It was there that her warmth, kindness, and recognition of each student as a unique individual with talents and gifts to share, regardless of scholastic abilities, earned her the respect and love of so many that continues to this day.

Barbara Richardson Jones Honeycutt was predeceased by her father, Harris Paul Jones, her dear mother with whom she visited every day, Louise Richardson Jones, both of Glasgow, and her loving sister, Mary Heaton Jones Morrison of Lexington. Missing her deeply are two very grateful sons, Wendell Harris Honeycutt of Glasgow and Charles Wayne Honeycutt of Glenburn, Maine, her daughter- in- law, Laura Potaro Honeycutt of Glenburn, Maine, and three sisters: Elizabeth Bradshaw Jones Harlow, now of Lexington; Marjorie Lowe Jones Ganter of Salisbury, NC; and Ruth Summers Jones Chapman of Mt. Gilead, NC.

Lovingly called “Meme” by her grandchildren, she is survived by Lesley Ellen Honeycutt Oliver of Bowling Green; William Charles Honeycutt, Daniel James Honeycutt, and Matthew Lawrence Holmes, all of Glenburn, Maine; and one great grandson, Alexander James Oliver of Bowling Green. “Bob” was also loved by, and now leaves a void in the hearts of many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

It has been said that a true reflection of one’s character is seen by how they treat their pets. By this measure alone, there has never been a kinder, nor more generous soul. Our lives were graced by hers. Our world is now forever changed. Our hope is to see her smile and hold her hand; together again.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday morning until time for services.
