Shirley Deane Owens

July 29, 1938 - August 29, 2004

Shirley Deane Mills Owens, 66, Hiseville, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 , at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital . A native of Barren County , she was the daughter of the late Hazel Jewell Ball and Arthur Lee Mills. She was a retired nurse at Caverna Hospital and a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church .

Survivors include her husband, Rondel; one granddaughter, Lindsey Paige Thomas of Hiseville; her son-in-law, Roger Thomas of Hiseville; two brothers, Rodney Mills and Billy Mills of Hiseville; four nieces, Tonya Bright of Canmer, Shellye Russell of Horse Cave , Wendy Gibson of Edmonton and Brandy Mills of Center; several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Owens Thomas.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Flora Evelyne Pierce

September 1, 1925 - April 18, 2005

Flora Evelyne Pierce, 79, of Louisville formerly of Glasgow died Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. She was the daughter of the late Alonzon Wells and Sally Pickett and the wife of the late Robert F. Pierce.

She is survived by one son: Charles Pierce of Malabar, Fl.; one sister: Maxine Lamb.

Funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Pickett Family cemetery in Lecta, KY. Visitation will be after 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kenneth H. Lee

June 1, 1918 - January 30, 2004

Kenneth H. Lee, 85, Bowling Green , died Friday, January 30, 2004 , at the Medical Center at Bowling Green . A son of the late Garland Lee and Geneva Simmons Denham, he was a jeweler and owner of Lee’s Watch Shop in Glasgow for 24 years. He was a former employee of R.R. Donnelley’s, a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict; a member of the VFW; a member of the Historical Society and the Joppa Baptist Church .

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lee; one daughter, Valerie Lee Dodd of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Sammy Lowe of Morehead, Melissa Richardson of New Orleans, Daniel Dodd and Ann Marie Dodd both of Bowling Green; one sister, Veatrece Curd of Cave City; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Cheyenne Lynn Morgan

May 2, 2008

Cheyenne Lynn Morgan, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Scott Morgan, was stillborn at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital on Friday, May 2, 2008.

Other survivors include three brothers, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Adam Morgan; maternal grandparents, Anthony Alexander and Carol Brown; paternal grandparents, Vickie and Ricky Reece.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Glasgow Municipal cemetery under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

James Edward "Ed" Peterson

January 25, 1916 - May 10, 2002

James Edward “Ed” Peterson, 86, Circle Springs Drive, Glasgow, died Friday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Edward and Edna Bray Peterson. Mr. Peterson was owner of Peterson Buick-Pontiac-GMC for 30 years and manager of Western District Tobacco Warehouse in Glasgow.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine; a sister-in-law, Betty Peterson of Cave City; several nieces and nephews, including Nancy Hale and Jane Edwards of Cave City and Barbara Harryman of Dawson Springs, KY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Terry Peterson and Charles Sterling Peterson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon Sunday at the funeral home.

Nancy Lynn Mudd

May 27, 1963 - December 19, 2001

GLASGOW, Ky. -- Nancy Lynn Povey Mudd, a Leitchfield native who taught special-education students for 18 years in the Grayson County, Caverna and Glasgow Independent schools, died Wednesday of complications from lung cancer. She was 38 years old.

Mrs. Mudd was a graduate of Grayson County High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. The Glasgow Independent School District recently named her Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2001. WBKO-TV in Bowling Green honored her earlier this year with its Hometown Hero award for outstanding service to her community.

"I'm the luckiest person in the world," she told WBKO, "because every day, I get to go to school and do what I love to do. Then at the end of the day, I get to go home and be with my family. And it doesn't get much better than that."

Mrs. Mudd was the daughter of Dolores Povey and the late Fred G. Povey Jr. of Leitchfield. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Mudd is survived by her husband, Ricky Mudd, and their children Eric, Beth, Mallory, Charlie, and Allison all of Glasgow; her mother-in-law, Faustine Mudd of Leitchfield; three sisters, the Rev. Joan Povey Clagett of Elizabethtown, Vannah Povey McClure of Louisville and Betty Povey Clemons of Peonia; and one brother, Fred G. Povey III of Oakton, Va. One daughter, Chelsea Mudd, was stillborn.

On Thursday, public visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. CST at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow, followed by a remembrance service at 8 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Joan Povey Clagett. On Friday, public visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 501 West Chestnut Street in Leitchfield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Leitchfield, conducted by Pastor Tim Stutler and the Rev. Joan Povey Clagett. Burial will be at the Rabbit Flats General Baptist Church near Caneyville.

A memorial fund has been established for the family. Anyone wishing to contribute may send donations to the Nancy Mudd Family Memorial Fund, c/o South Central Bank, P.O. Box 667, Glasgow, KY 42142-0667.

Katherine "Kotty" Peterson

September 10, 1917 - June 4, 2002

Katherine “Kotty” Barrett Young Peterson, 84, Circle Springs Drive, Glasgow, died Tuesday at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Claudia Amelia White and Ampsa Perry Young. She was the widow of the late James Edward “Ed” Peterson, who preceded her in death May 10, 2002.

Mrs. Peterson graduated Glasgow High School in 1936. She was employed for many years at the Glasgow Republican and was bookkeeper at Western District Tobacco Warehouse in Glasgow. She was a former State Secretary of the Kentucky 4-H Clubs, a member of the Glasgow Garden Club and the Glasgow Chapter of Business and Professional Women Clubs.

Survivors include one brother, Ampsa Perry “A.P.” Young, Jr. of Ashland, KY. and twelve nieces and nephews, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Dooley Peterson of Cave City, Martha Neal Dooley Barnhouse of Sebring, OH, Audrey Ann Young Hudgins of Antioch, TN, Edwina Jane Young of Mustang, OK, George Chapman “Chappy” Young, Jr. of Palm City, FL, Amelia Vanzant Ryan, Samuel Joseph Riherd and Frank Barrett Riherd all of Glasgow, Jean Luckett Jones Davidson of Louisville, Frances Malcolm “Mikki” Jones Little of Maine, Verlinda Jean Young Gibbons of Arizona and Susan Frances Young Kanouse of Ashland, KY.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Amanda Young Dooley, Paul L. Young, George Chapman Young, Sarah Elizabeth Young, Virginia May Vanzant, Mary White Riherd and Lillian Frances Jones.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Barren County 4-H Council or the Hiseville cemetery.

Joseph H. McGuire

February 16, 1928 - November 29, 2003

Joseph H. McGuire, 75, Oil Well Road , Glasgow , died Saturday, November 29, 2003 , at the NHC Health Care Center. A native of Barren County , he was a son of the late Henry and Nellie Turner McGuire. He was a retired employee of General Electric in Louisville and a member of the Glenview Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Michael McGuire of Cave City; one granddaughter, Michelle Eklund and her husband, Steve, of Beverly Hills, CA; one brother, Paul McGuire and his wife, Lucille, of Glasgow; two sisters, Mary Helen Schader and her husband, Bill, and Rebecca Carey and her husband, Rollie, all of Glasgow; four nieces and two nephews; and a special friend, Elizabeth Payne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Euleta Sharp McGuire.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery . Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Grace C. Jones

May 30, 1916 - May 20, 2003

Grace C. Jones, 86, Hiseville, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at the Caverna Hospital. A daughter of the late Avery and Minnie Ritter Craighead, she was a homemaker and a member of the Hiseville Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Jones and his wife, Pat, of Louisville, William Jones and his wife, Diana, of Hiseville, Glenn Jones and friend, Doris Warf, of Hiseville; one daughter, Ruth Ward and her husband, Robby, of Uno; six grandchildren, Jeff Jones and wife, Tammy, Doug Jones and wife, Genelle, Chad Jones, Josh Jones, Adam Jones and Melanie Ward; three great-granddaughters, Ally Grace Jones, Emi Jones and Ella Cate Jones; one sister, Maymie Spillman of Griderville; three sisters-in-law, Emma Lou Jones, Irene Jones and Jean Craighead; two brothers-in-law, Charles Jones and H. B. Spillman; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claud W. Jones; three sisters, Ellie Hare, Allie Meeks and Enna Meeks; four brothers, Clarence Craighead, Ernest Craighead, Delmous Craighead and James Craighead.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Hiseville Baptist Church or a favorite charity.

James Bryant Mills

January 13, 1928 - August 20, 2001

James Bryant Mills, 73, Park Street, Cave City, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Chester and Pauline Parker Mills, a retired farmer, a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Pickett Mills; two sons, Tommy Bryant Mills and his wife, Samantha of Park City and Stephen Paul Mills of Eminence, KY.; two daughters, Cindy Dawn Bushong and her husband, James of Cave City, Janice Mills Peden and her husband, Mike of Glasgow; two brothers, Chester Byron Mills of Glasgow and Billy Joe Mills of Hiseville; three sisters, Wilma Thompson of Hiseville, Margie Pruitt of Glasgow and Joyce Humphrey of Center; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Mills and a brother, Howard Mills.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
