Nina Belle Shaw Furlong Morgan, 67, Glasgow, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital after an extended illness. A daughter of the late Arthur and Annie Norris Shaw, she was a homemaker and a member of Peter’s Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Wayne Shaw of Glasgow, Woodrow M. Jewell of Texas and Kenny Furlong of Glasgow; four daughters, Sheila (Danny) Whitlow of Glasgow, Sharon (Billy) Whitlow of Tennessee, Julia Furlong (Johnathan Hagerty) of Glasgow and Jennifer Morgan (John Fields) of Glasgow; seven grandchildren, Christy Lutterman, Timmy and Melissa Furlong, Chad and Sarah Whitlow, Mercedes Hagerty and Cassie Belle Fields; two sisters, Mary (Jessie) Coulter of Lucas and Delsie (Doug) Hurt of Lecta; two brothers, Oakley Shaw of Glasgow and Johnny (Brenda) Shaw of Franklin; several nieces and nephews and her special friend, Leroy “Tetter” Morgan of Glasgow.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 12 noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

Luther “Red” Neal

October 19, 1930 - December 15,2004

Luther “Red” Neal, 74, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital . He was the son of the late John Neal and Ina Adell Smith Neal. He was a retired bottler at Strader’s Dairy.

He is survived by seven sons: Danny Neal and his wife Shirley of Hiseville, Carroll Neal and his wife Marie of Savoyard, James Neal and his wife Shirley of Glasgow, Cotton Neal and his wife Lisa of Glasgow, Ronnie Neal and his wife Sharon of Glasgow, Tim Neal and his wife Connie of Glasgow and Jeff Neal and his wife Pam of Hiseville; Three daughters: Glenda Honeycutt and her husband Wayne of Hiseville, Rebecca Hampton and her husband Jimmy of Park City, Teresa Pennington and her husband Timmy of Center; the childrens’ mother, Jenny Agnes Neal; Twenty five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 19, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Gladys V. Mayes

January 2, 1905 - June 29, 2001

Gladys Virginia Mayes, 96, Lick Branch Road, Glasgow, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital. A daughter of the late Robert and Naomi Deatherage Nichols, she was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include six daughters, Dolores Jarvis and her husband, Clem, of Louisville, Juanita Nichols and her husband, Bennie Carl, of Glasgow, Bernadine Gehrig of Mississippi, Caroljean Smith and her husband, Stanley, of Glasgow, Grace Ward and her husband, Reginald K. of Glasgow, Karen Peden and her husband, S. Ray of Texas; one son, Jerry Mayes and his wife, Janice of Glasgow; one daughter-in-law, Donna Mayes of Glasgow; one sister, Mary Wood of Virden, Illinois; one niece, Ruth Baird of Virden, Ill., one nephew-in-law, Jessie Mayes of Odessa, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston Mayes; a son, Norman E. Mayes, Sr.; a daughter, Virginia Mayes Peregrin; a grandson, Michael Peregrin; a great-grandson, Jason Leftwich; a brother, Harry L. Nichols; two sons-in-law, Steve Peregrin and Carol Gehrig; and a nephew, John Nichols.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Elva Ester Morris

07/29/1913 - 01/27/2001

Jewell Mary Pitcock, 85, Glasgow, died Sunday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital after a brief illness. The Monroe County native was a former employee of Handmacher Fashions and J.J. Newberry in Glasgow. She later retired from the T.J. Samson Community Hospital after having worked there from 1966 until 1980. She was a 12 year member of the Foster Grandparents Program in Bowling and had been a recipient of the Foster Grandparent of the Year Award. She was the daughter of the late Miles Allen Cary and Nannie Geralds Cary and a member of the Greenwood Park Church of Christ in Bowling Green.

Survivors include two daughters, Ella Dean Taylor of Bowling Green and Norma Joyce Mars of Indianapolis; one brother, Roy Clifton Cary of Glasgow; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Wednesday at the Fairview cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Geneva S. Johnson

November 7, 1909 - March 25, 2002

Geneva S. Johnson, 92, West Brown Street, Glasgow, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at the NHC Health Care Center. A native of Westborne, TN, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ollie Jane Slover. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in DuQuoin, Illinois.

Survivors include one son, Joe W. Johnson and his wife, Lou Mae of Glasgow; two daughters, Phyllis McCoy of Prospect, KY and Zelma Swailes and her husband, Alan of Columbia, MO; eleven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Achsah Mitchell Johnson and one brother, Louis Slover.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in DuQuoin with burial in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 12 noon Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

Eunice Haley Ramsey

January 4, 1929 - March 20, 2004

Eunice Haley Ramsey, 75, Whites Chapel Road, Glasgow, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital . A daughter of the late Jess and Bessie Lee Lewis Haley, she was a retired seamstress from Handmacher Fashions in Glasgow . She was a member of the Dover Baptist Church and had been attending the Shiloh General Baptist Church .

Survivors include her husband, Dewey F. Ramsey; her god-daughter, Jeania Williams and her husband, Steve; their children, Krystal Williams and her husband, Kirk, and Celesta Williams; one sister, Mintie Basham of Albany ; one brother, J.C. Haley of Indianapolis ; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lavern Wyatt and Louise Haley; three brothers, Neal Haley, Wendell Haley and Ray Lewis Haley.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lydia Mae Kinslow

Lydia Mae Houchens Kinslow, 89, Glasgow, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at the Barren County Health Care Center. A daughter of the late Joe and Maude McGuire Houchens, she was a homemaker, a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and the widow of the late Millard Jackson and Tompie Botts Kinslow.

Survivors include four sons, Gus Kinslow, Charles Kinslow and his wife, Ella, Roy Kinslow and his wife, Margie, and Leslie Kinslow and his wife, Wanda all of Glasgow; four daughters, Frankie Peden and her husband, Rollin, of Cave City, Nell Houchens and her husband, Ruel, of Glasgow, Margaret Crain and her husband, Oscar, of Hardyville, and Betty Ann Staples and her husband, Kenneth, of Glasgow; thirteen grandchildren, Jimmy Peden, Brenda Ramey, Gary Kinslow, Greg Kinslow, Tammy Kinslow, Carla Kinslow, Stanford Kinslow, Cynthia Cross, David Crain, Kendall Kinslow, Kyron Kinslow, Kim Forbis and Lee Ann Moore; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Ramey; five brothers, Roy Houchens, Everett Houchens, Wendell Houchens, John Houchens and Cagie Houchens; and by two sisters, Ann Hotz and Altie Miller.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2002, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Elsie Earle Peden

July 9, 1916 - January 4, 2005

Elsie Earle Peden, 88, Lick Branch Road, Glasgow, died Tuesday, January 04, 2005, at the Glasgow Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born July 9, 1916, in the Union Five Community of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Ina M. Richey and Burl M. Peden, she was a retired farmer and homemaker and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her caregivers, Buddy Bailey and Brenda Pierce of Glasgow; a special friend, Gladys Hunt of Glasgow; two first cousins; several second cousins, friends, neighbors and her extended family at Glasgow Health and Rehab Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Frances Peden.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Florine Polson Johnson

April 8, 1933 - November 19, 2004

Florine Polson Johnson, 71, Glasgow, died Friday, November 19, 2004, at her residence. A daughter of the late Othie and Dollie Spencer Polson, she was a homemaker and a member of the Coral Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, James Earl Johnson; one son, Mike Johnson and his wife, Jane; one daughter, Debby Johnson Hamilton and her husband, Bo; five grandsons, Brad Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Lance Hamilton, Ben Johnson and Luke Johnson; one step-grandson, Scott Turner; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Addie and Mason Johnson; two sisters, Maude Nunnally and Ollie Perkins; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Polson and Albert Polson; four sisters, Jean Nunnally, Dolois Richardson, Gola Emberton and Thelma Brock.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The American Lung Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Sam W. Richardson

April 11, 1937 - February 28, 2003

Sam W. Richardson, 65, Glasgow, died Friday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Rev. Thomas A. Richardson and Bertha London Richardson. He was a retired Radiology Technician at the T. J. Community Hospital, a member of the Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Allen Lodge # 24 F. & A.M., York Rite and Kosair Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Matthews Richardson; one daughter, Ellen Richardson Sullivan and her husband, Tim, of Ocala, Florida; one son, Kevin Lee Richardson and his wife, Alisha, of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Emily, Katie and Eric Sullivan of Ocala, and Samuel O. Richardson of Glasgow; three brothers, James Richardson of Cave City, Hubert Richardson of Louisville and George Richardson of Mississippi; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Richardson and Harry Richardson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

William Clinton Kessenger

December 6, 1927 - August 22, 2004

William Clinton Kessenger, 76, Oil City Road, Glasgow, died Sunday, August 22, 2004, at his residence. The Barren County native was a businessman, a printer and a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during WW II in the South Pacific.

He was the son of the late Virta Lee Adwell and Closky Lee Kessenger. His two sons, William Scott Kessenger and David Allen Kessenger, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sharon Lee Kimbrough and her husband, William B. Kimbrough, and Mary Rebecca Bushong and her husband, Robert Bushong; four grandchildren, Scotty Danyell Londaon and her husband, Steve, Willie Albany, Travis Allen Kessenger and Dwight Clint Bushong; one great-grandson, Garrett Wade Kessenger; one half-sister, Judy Gale Jackson; one step-sister, Jean Gordon; one step-brother, James Robert Adwell; his cousin, Douglas Shank; and his companion, Anna Coats.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be with military honors.
