Caroline Thomas

March 20, 1921 - January 27, 2002

Caroline Evans Thomas, 80, Glasgow, died Sunday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Grover and Mary Warren Evans, a retired seamstress at Handmacher Fashions and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Thomas and his wife, Brenda of Lebanon, TN.; one daughter, Judy Wilson and her husband, Dean of Lebanon; one sister, Rebecca Taylor of Eighty-Eight; two brothers, James Evans of Columbia and Rev. William Evans of Herndon, KY.; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus Thomas; two sons, Stephen and David Thomas; a granddaughter, Michelle Grohman; a sister, Rose Thomas and a brother, Harold Evans.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Beulah Lynn Shipley

October 7, 1899 - April 8, 2003

Beulah Lynn Shipley, 102, Glasgow, died Tuesday at the Barren County Health Care Center. A native of Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Wash and Sarah Smith Lynn. She was a retired farmer with her late husband, Ewell Shipley, and a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include a niece, Imo Lynn of Glasgow, and her caretaker, Essie Shipley of Glasgow.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Springs Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Frances Shipley

November 22, 1917 - March 3, 2006

Frances Shipley, 88, Cave City, died Friday, March 03, 2006, at her residence. A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Letha Harrison Bush. The widow of the late Tim J. Shipley, Jr., she was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Tim J. Shipley, III and his wife, Donna, of Cave City; two daughters, Janine Shipley of Grand Rivers, KY, and Joanna Shipley and her husband, Ernst Trachsel, of Louisville; four granddaughters, Jaime Shipley of Georgetown, Jill Shipley, Jenna Shipley and Jessica Shipley all of Cave City; two sisters, Mary E. Smith of Bowling Green and Maxine Wonning of Osgood, IN; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford Bush, Cleo Bush, Wendell Bush, Hezekiah Bush and Josiah Bush, and one sister, Maurice Thomerson.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Walnut Hill cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Southern Kentucky or the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.

Ruth Crabtree Shipley

November 28, 1917 - November 25, 2007

Ruth Crabtree Shipley, 89, of Temple Hill, died Sunday, November 25, 2007. A daughter of the late Harrison and Lillie Arterburn Crabtree, she was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Harold David Shipley and wife, Kaye, of Glasgow; one daughter, Dixie Renfro and husband, Joe, of Glasgow; one step-son, Ralph Shipley and wife, Gloria, of Glasgow; one sister, Blanche Reneau; four grandchildren, Chad Renfro, Jason Renfro, Brad Shipley and Brandon Shipley; four step-grandchildren, Clifton Shipley, Craig Shipley, Connie Garmon and Carla Deckard; one great-grandchild, Brooke Renfro; five step-great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Andy and Alex Garmon, Jonathan Shipley and Kelsay Deckard; one step-great-great grandchild, Drew Garmon; two sisters-in-law, Essie Shipley and Helen Shipley; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Shipley; three sisters, Olene Lawson, Cletra Mayfield and Glady Marshall; two brothers, Mitchell Crabtree and Paul Crabtree; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with entombment at Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rhonda Dean Owens Thomas

January 4, 1960 - September 7, 2001

Rhonda Dean Owens Thomas, 41, Hiseville, died Friday at the Medical Center in Bowling Green as a result of an automobile accident. The Barren County native was a registered nurse and head supervisor at Britthaven in Bowling Green and a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Thomas; one daughter, Lindsey Paige Thomas at home; her parents, Rondal and Shirley Owens of Hiseville; her paternal grandmother, Sophia Mae Owens of Horse Cave; parents-in-law, Douglas and Irene Thomas of Glasgow; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arthur Lee and Jewell Mills and her paternal grandfather, Luther Charlie Owens.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bobby Lee Shirley

April 24, 1938 - May 25, 2001

Bobby Lee Shirley, 63, Glasgow, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. Born April 24, 1938 in Adair County, KY, he was a son of the late Curt Shirley and Laura Janes Shirley, a retired custodian with the Glasgow School System and a member of the East Fork Baptist Church in Metcalfe County.

Survivors include his wife Lovern Shirley; One son, Alan Shirley and his wife, Kathy, of Glasgow; Three daughters, Connie Bragg and her husband, Paul, Lessa Houchen and her husband, Don, and Kim Gaddie and her husband, Terry, all of Glasgow; Six grandchildren, Laura Beth Bragg, Jamie Houchen, Paige Houchen, Chase Gaddie, Andy Gaddie and Helena Grace Shirley; Seven brothers, Elroy Shirley, Larue “Junior” Shirley, James Shirley, Earl “Dunham” Shirley, Fred Shirley, Charles Shirley and Phillip Shirley all of Glasgow; Four sisters, Dee Burris, Pauline Shirley, Christine Bennett and Brenda Smith all of Glasgow. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul David Shirley.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Tammy M. Shives

January 10, 1970 - November 4, 2007

Tammy Michella Shives, 37, Glasgow, died Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Daniel Shives; two daughters, Courtney Gayle Kinslow and Amy Michelle Shives; her father, Lewis Wayne Saltsman; three sisters, Kimberly Dawn Wilson, Samantha Cory Saltsman and Neelie Ann Saltsman; two brothers, Timothy Wayne Saltsman and Lewis Wayne Saltsman, Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Gayle Cross Saltsman.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Big Meadow cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Tammy Shives Memorial Fund at Edmonton State Bank.

Kenneth B. Sidwell

March 7, 1908 - November 5, 2003

Kenneth B. Sidwell, 95, Glasgow , died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital . A native of Oakley , TN , he was the son of the late Ada Arms and Walter F. Sidwell.

Mr. Sidwell was a retired educator, after 42 years in the field of education as both coach and administrator. He was the first football coach at Tompkinsville High School from 1936 to 1941; he was a coach of all sports at Glasgow High School from 1943 to 1946; he was a guiding influence in the creation of the Caverna Independent School System, where he served as superintendent from 1949 to 1956; he served in the Barren County School System as coach at Park City High School and principal at Austin-Tracy High School for 13 years; he served as principal at Hart County High School for three years and retired in 1972. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Sidwell, Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Nashville; one daughter, Linda Sidwell Thompson of Frankfort; a daughter-in-heart, Brenda Pook of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Tommy Sidwell of Franklin, TN, Cole Evans of Versailles, Chris Pirtle and Kim Pirtle Whalen both of Bowling Green; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Octavia Beaty Sidwell and Ethel Holmes Sidwell and one daughter, Ada Ann Evans.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2003, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery . Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Richard "Dick" Sandefur

March 3, 1916 - December 8, 2007

Richard “Dick” Sandefur, 91, Edmonton, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Newburgh Health Care, Newburgh, IN. A son of the late Ellis T. & Bertha Leach Sandefur, he was a retired regional feed supervisor for Southern States Co-op. He attended Edmonton Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Daugherty Glass Sandefur; one son, Dr. Richard Sandefur, Newburgh, Indiana; one daughter, Diane Holder, Elizabethtown, KY; one sister, Martha Simpson, Eminence, KY; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Jim Glass, Glasgow, KY and John Glass, Edmonton, KY, and their extended families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Thurner Sandefur; a brother, Ellis L. Sandefur and a sister Mary Langford.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Coulter officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Margaret Elizabeth Elmore Simmons

May 14, 1948 - November 10, 200

Bowling Green – Margaret Elizabeth Elmore Simmons, 60, died Monday, November 10, 2008, at her home.

She was born in Bakersfield, CA, the daughter of the late Wilborn (Red) and Mary Elizabeth Barrick Elmore. She graduated from Temple Hill High School in 1966 and Western Kentucky University in 1970. She lived in many places over the course of her life including Bad Krueznach and Frankfurt, Germany, Tampa, FL, Grovetown, GA, Galt, CA, Louisville, KY, Jacksonville, FL, and Bowling Green, KY. She worked as a library assistant in Sacramento, CA, Louisville, KY, Jacksonville, FL, and at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Margaret was a gracious, loving, and dearly beloved wife, mother, sister, and aunt, and a friend to everyone she met. She attended Broadway United Methodist Church in Bowling Green.

Survivors include her husband, Charles David (Chuck) Simmons, one daughter, Susan Luka (Michael) of Louisville, one brother Michael W. Elmore (Carol) of Hendersonville, TN, one sister, Jennifer Elmore of Glasgow, KY, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Margaret Elizabeth Elmore Simmons will be Friday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
