Bettie Carroll Pierson, 72, of Owensboro died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her sister's home. The Whitesville native was a member of Whitesville Christian Church and enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors.

Survivors include her father, Elmo G. Clark of Owensboro; two sisters, Nancy Marsh and Barbara Boyle, both of Owensboro; two nephews; and eight nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Whitesville Christian Church or Hospice.

Charles W. Gentry
October 31, 1940 - April 8, 2013

Charles W. Gentry, 72, of Bowling Green passed away at 3:15 pm, Monday, April 8, 2013 at his home with his loving family at his side. Charlie was a painting contractor until his retirement. Mr. Gentry was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Bennie J. and Nell Carter Gentry. Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Thurman Gentry, a brother, Glen J. Gentry, a sister, Phyllis Gentry Jones, a son, Dennis L. Gentry, and a grandson, Kenneth W. Humphrey.

Mr. Gentry is survived by a son, Kenneth W. Gentry and a daughter, Terry L. Gentry, both of Bowling Green; a grandson, Staff Sergeant Charles E. Gentry and his wife, Amy of Fort Richardson, Alaska; two granddaughters, Ashley Cross and Samantha White of Bowling Green; three sisters, Charlene Duffy and her husband, Tom of Bowling Green, Sue Sharp and her husband, Roy of Glasgow and Laverne Gentry Kirby of Springhill, Tennessee; two brothers, Bobby Gentry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Billy Gentry and his wife, Marilyn of Pensacola, Florida; seven great grandchildren, Emily Humphrey, Peyton Humphrey, Aubrie Cross, Candence Humphrey, Brynley Humphrey, Eva Mae White and Kaylee Marie Johnson; and his special care-giver, Linda Wemes of Bowling Green. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. A Private Funeral Service will be held with burial in Bowling Green Gardens.

Irene Jarvis Genet
18 July 2001

CENTRAL CITY -- Irene Jarvis Genet, 83, of LaGrange died there Monday, July 16, 2001, at Tri-County Baptist Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native retired as a telephone operator and was a member of Centerfield Baptist Church in Crestwood. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a son, Richard Couch of LaGrange; and a granddaughter.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Layton "Spike" Neighbors
April 1, 1938 - March 13, 2013

Layton "Spike" Neighbors, 74 of Rockfield, died at 10:07 am Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Warren County native was born April 1, 1938, a son of the late Vechel and Levia Martin Neighbors. He was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell Neighbors and Ronnie Kessinger. Mr. Neighbors worked at Western Kentucky University in the maintenance department for twenty-two years and was a member of First Pentecostal Church on Russellville Road. Services will be performed by Rev. Ivan Key.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Neighbors of Rockfield; a granddaughter, Suzie; three sisters, Sophia Raines of Knightstown, IN, Earline Brumit and her husband, Carlie, of Claypool, KY, and Dean Hartsock of Greenfield, IN; two brothers, Vester Neighbors and his wife, Elma, of Seattle, WA, and Lester Neighbors and his wife, Phyllis, of Hadley, KY; fifteen step-children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in the Archie Newman Wilson cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

Janet Omer Hamilton
(September 13, 1923 - April 10, 2013)

Janet Omer Hamilton, 89, of Bowling Green died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green. Mrs. Hamilton was born September 13, 1923, the 13th child of the late Charles H. Omer and Susan O. Teer of Roselia, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, A. G. Hamilton, III, and infant twin sons. She was a graduate of Morganfield High School and attended the University of Louisville in 1968. She was a lifelong member of The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she actively served as librarian/church historian and was also a lifetime member of the Women's Christian Ministries st Morganfield Christian Church and Central Christian Church in Lexington. She was a member and past President of the Warren County(Central) PTO, past President of the Bowling Green Civitana Club, the first President of the Warren County Republican Women's Club, member and officer of the Bowling Green Altrusa International, longtime and active member of the Landmark Association, Friends of the Library, and Warren County Historical Society. She was a 50+ year member of Order of Eastern Star, Morganfield, KY #0026, a Kentucky Colonel for over 25 years, and was involved for a long time in the Communications Workers of America and The Pioneers of Kentucky Association. Her hobbies included reading, cooking and traveling. From 1942 - 1945, Mrs. Hamilton served during WWII at Camp Breckinridge as an office clerk and secretary in her hometown of Morganfield, Kentucky; 1946 - 1949 She worked as a secretary and in the department of records for the Kentucky House of Reform, formerly known as Greendale Reformatory. From 1950 - 1982 Mrs. Hamilton gave 32 years of service to Southern Bell/ AT & T beginning as a teller in the Business office in Bowling Green and later became one of the first women drafting engineers at the telephone company. After her retirement from A T & T, she worked for over 15 years at the Western Kentucky University Museum and Library. Survivors include her twin sister, Jane Omer Griggs of Morganfield, Kentucky; one daughter, Linda Hamilton McNevin of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Katherine Louise Hart and her husband, Roger Drawdy of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Kimberly Janet Hart from Indialantic, Florida, John Hamilton Hart and his wife, Chaye Mathfield Hart of Johannesburg, South Africa; three great grandchildren, Sky Riannon Drawdy, Conrad Hamilton Hart and John Maxwell Hart; six nephews and three nieces also survive. Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:30 am, Monday at The First Christian Church with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm Sunday at The First Christian Church with additional visitation from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Monday at the Church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Deanna Kelley

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Deanna Kelley, 57, of Tell City died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Heath System. The Tell City native was the Perry County public health nurse for 13 years and co-chairman of Perry County M.S. Group. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, a 1962 Tell City High School graduate and a 1966 graduate of University of Evansville School of Nursing.

Survivors include a son, Timothy Kelley of Tell City; a daughter, Stacey Kelley of Louisville; her mother, Helen Kress of Tell City; and a brother, Doug Kress of Tell City.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Tell City. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Perry County Home Health.

James F. Leek
(August 19, 1931 - April 7, 2013)

James F. Leek, 81, of Bowling Green died Sunday, April 7, 2013. Mr. Leek was born August 19, 1931 in Nashville, TN, a son of the late James F. and Gladys Leek Bush. Mr. Leek was preceded in death by his wife, Doris J. Leek, a daughter, Helen Dolores Dion, a grandson, Travis Leek, a sister, Mary Roach, one brother-in-law, David Cassetty.

Mr. Leek entered the U.S. Army in June 1947 and served until October 1951. He served with the 187 Airborne in the Korean War. After his military service, Mr. Leek went to school on the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1958. He was employed by NASA at the Kennedy Space Center where he was Project Manager of Electrical on the Titan II and Titan IIIC programs until 1967. After leaving NASA, Mr. Leek started his own electrical contraction company in Orlando, FL. He sold his company in 1974 and was then employed by Pan American Electrical as Project Manager. Mr. Leek retired in 1996 and moved to Bowling Green.

Mr. Leek was a Kentucky Colonel, Life Member of V.F.W. Post 8422 and D.A.V. Post 43 of Smyrna, TN, as well as a member of American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green. He attended the Citizen Police Academy in Bowling Green and worked as a volunteer with the BGPD. Mr. Leek was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Mr. Leek is survived by his sons, Micheal Leek and his wife, Tana, and Timothy Leek and his wife, Robin all of Bowling Green and Richard Leek and his wife, Becky of Fishers, IN; a daughter, Stacy Dion Rich and her husband, Rich of Nashville, TN; one brother, Donald Bush of Bowling Green; three sisters, Ann Stubblefield and her husband, Don, Carolyn Cassetty, Brenda Shores and her husband, Tommy all of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren; a special friend, Barbara York of Bowling Green; a brother-in-law, Chuck Roach of Franklin, KY.

Memorial Services are scheduled at 1:00 pm Friday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 11:00 am -1:00 pm Friday, April 12, 2013, at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Additional Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Southside Baptist Church.

Alton S. Reynolds
14 July 2001

GREENVILLE -- Alton S. Reynolds, 94, of Greenville died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a brief illness. The Union County native had worked for Peabody Coal and retired as a train engineer from River Queen Mine in 1977. His wife, Silvia Reynolds, died in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Young of Central City; a grandson; two sisters, Berneda Todd and Carrine Reynolds, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge cemetery in Sturgis. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

William Tevis Boulware
18 July 2001

SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. -- William Tevis Boulware, 83, of Sun City Center died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Wooster, Ohio. The Daviess County native was an Army veteran of World War II, a Pearl Harbor survivor and graduated from Daviess County High School. He supervised the wind tunnels at NASA Lewis Research Center for 30 years and was part of the team that helped launch John Glenn on his first space flight.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Louise Boulware; three sons, Richard Boulware of Elkin, N.C., Gary Boulware of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Jay McCormick of Owensboro; a daughter, Lynne Buss of Wooster; nine grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Smithville, Ohio. Burial will be in Apple Creek cemetery in Apple Creek, Ohio. McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home in Wooster is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Boulware Center in Owensboro.

Victor Tetenko
(August 7, 1936 - March 28, 2013)

Victor Tetenko, devoted servant of Jesus Christ, passed into eternal life on March 28, 2013 at his home with his wife of 46 years by his side. Victor bravely fought the battle against MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome) for 4 years. Mr. Tetenko was born August 7, 1936 in Russia, a son of the late Alexander Tetenko and Alexandra Burlaka Tetenko. Victor graduated from college in the Ukraine with a degree in Engineering and served 3 years in the Air force. In 1989, Victor and his family immigrated to the United States with the sponsorship of the lovely people at First Baptist Church where he is a member.

Victor, is survived by his wife, Lyubev Maimula Tetenko of Bowling Green; two sons, Alexander Tetenko of West Palm Beach, FL and Sergey Tetenko and his wife, Lana, of Hot Springs, AR; one daughter, Rimma Barko and her husband, Alexander of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Ruslan and Natalie Barko both of Spokane, WA and Crestina, Victoria and Nikita Tetenko, of Hot Springs, AR.

Visitation will be Sunday March 31, from 5 to 8 pm and Monday April 1, from 12 to 2pm at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday April 1, 2013 at 2 pm. at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery.

The family would like to thank the kind and loving people at GGC and the Medical Center who cared for their beloved father.

Milan Colakovic
(March 4, 1948 - March 15, 2013)

Milan Colakovic, 65 of Bowling Green, died March 15, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Colakovic was born March 4, 1948 in Banja Luka, Bosnia, a son of the late Gojko Colakovic and Vida Borenovic Colakovic. He was an interpreter for the Warren County Court System and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mirela Terman Colakovic; three daughters, Anna Colakovic, Manuela Juric and her husband, Danijel, and Gabriela Šmit; two sons, Dalibor Colakovic and his wife, Marina and Dragan Colakovic; three grandchildren, Bogdan Colakovic, Dario and Mateo Juric; three sisters, Jagoda Asanovic, Jelica Marušic and Slavica Colakovic; five nieces, Diana, Daniela, Dragana, Izabela and Melina; one nephew, Renato; mother-in-law, Ana-Vera Budimir; one brother-in-law, Zvonko Terman. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:30 am Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery.

Yvonne Golden Wright
(September 18, 1948 - March 9, 2013)

Yvonne Golden Wright went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2013. The Kansas City native and resident of Bowling Green was born September 18, 1948. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Golden and her sister Carol Golden Watson, and Billy Wright, her husband of 20 years.

She is survived by a brother Gregory W. Golden (Debbie) of Mobile, Alabama; son Aaron Levitt (Maxie); step-son Mark Levitt (June); stepson Scott K. Wright; step-daughter Barbara Wright; step-grandson, Jacob Wright, and a host of other loving relatives and friends. She graduated from Seneca High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended Indiana University. Yvonne was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and was a member of the Adult Worship Choir. She was a faithful member of her Sunday School class and Eastwood Bible Study Classes. She was involved in the Rose Society of Bowling Green and the Western Kentucky Orchestra and Chorale. She was a counselor with Hope House Ministries. She led Sunday School classes at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She was a frequent guest vocalist at the Bowling Green Retirement Village. Yvonne loved music, gardening, and reading, but her greatest passion was following her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and now enjoys being in His presence. Words of condolences can be expressed at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, March 13 at 1:00 PM at Eastwood Baptist Church, 500 Eastwood Street Bowling Green, KY 42103. Her family members will receive visits from her friends at the church at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The service will be conducted by Senior Adult Pastor Greg Swack. CENTERTOWN -- Lanelda June Kimmel Rowe, 78, of Rockport, Ky., died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Ohio County Hospital. She was an Ohio County native. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Rowe.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Rowe and David Bruce Rowe, both of Merrilville, Ind.; a daughter, Allene Rowe of Rockport, Ky.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Billie Gene Kimmel of Huntsville, Ala.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home Inc. in Centertown. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dr. Lowell H. Harrison
(October 23, 1922 - October 12, 2011)

U.S. Veteran
Lowell H. Harrison, 88, died October 12, 2011 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Dr. Harrison was born in Russell Springs, Kentucky, on October 23, 1922 to the late Chester and Cecil Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine "Penny" Harrison. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Barbara "Bobbie” Nation Jackson of Owensboro; two nieces, Nancy Nation Barnard and Laura Nation Shipp; and three nephews, Allan Harvey (Vicki), Dr. Mark Harvey (Ellen) and Paul Nation (Beverly). Dr. Harrison was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Harvey, and his brothers-in-law Edwin Harvey and Homer Nation. Dr. Harrison served in the Army during WWII and saw active duty as a combat engineer with the 104th Division in Europe. In 1946 he graduated from Western Kentucky University with a major in history and earned an MA (1946) and a PhD. (1951) from New York University, where he taught history and worked in university administration. In 1951-1952 he was a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics. From 1952 to 1967 he taught at West Texas State University, where he served as head of the Department of History. In 1967 he joined the History Department of Western Kentucky University as a senior scholar and graduate advisor. Twice elected to the Board of Regents, he retired from full time teaching in 1988, but continued to teach part time until 1994. Actively involved in research and writing, Dr Harrison was the author or editor of some fifteen books, including The Civil War in Kentucky, Western Kentucky University and A New History of Kentucky. He also published 115 articles in various publications and authored several hundred book reviews. He received the Faculty Excellence Award at West Texas State University in 1965, the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Texas Faculty Award in 1966, the Western Kentucky University Faculty Research Award in 1971 and the Public Service Award in 1986. In 1999 he was elected to Western Kentucky University's Hall of Distinguished Alumni, and in 2001 he received the Thomas D. Clark Award for Excellence in Kentucky History from the Center for Kentucky History and Politics. Dr. Harrison served on various state historical organizations including the Editorial Board of the University Press of Kentucky, the Publication Committee of the Filson Club and the Kentucky Historical Society, the Kentucky Oral History Commission, the Governor's Advisory Committee on Public Documents, the Kentucky Historical Records Advisory Board, and the Kentucky County History Project. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green with burial in Fairview cemetery. Dorothy A. Otterson

Dorothy A. Otterson, 71, of Hillcrest Healthcare Center, Owensboro, died there Wednesday, July 18, 2001. The Louisville native was a homemaker and worked at Frisch's and Jerry's restaurants. She was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral and worked as an aide at Rosedale Nursing Home. A son, David Otterson, died Aug. 18, 1968.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Otterson; two daughters, Mary Roach and Audrey Clouse, both of Owensboro; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Berry of Ashland, Ann Critchloe of Bowling Green and Maxine Smallwood of Media, Pa.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mildred "Midge" Watson
(April 13, 1916 - December 21, 2011)

Mildred "Midge" Watson, 95, of Bowling Green died at 4:26 pm, December 21, 2011 at the Medical Center. The Buffalo, Iowa native was born on April 13, 1916, a daughter of the late Gilbert L. Peterson and Myrtle Lyma Hobart Peterson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Efnor Watson, a brother, Leonard R. Peterson and a nephew, Dennis Peterson. Mrs. Watson was a graduate of Buffalo High School, class of 1934 and a graduate of the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa. She was employed by International Harvester Company from 1942 to 1947 and worked as a secretary for Alton High School from 1947 to 1955. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, was a homemaker and loving mother. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Alan Watson of Bowling Green; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Watson of Bowling Green; sister-in-law, Ruth Peterson of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; niece, Virginia Ekstrand of Danville, Iowa; nephews, Marvin (Carol) Peterson of Wood River, Illinois and David (Nancy) Peterson of Belleville, Illinois; five great nieces, five great nephews, seven great-great nieces and six great-great nephews also survive. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the BGWC Humane Society or the Macular Degeneration Disease Society. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Johnie Pinkey Smith

CLEATON -- Johnie Pinkey Smith, 93, of Cleaton died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Beech Creek native was an Army veteran of World War II and had retired from Sharon Coal Co. as a coal miner. He was preceded in death by a son, Sherman Earl Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Smith; two sons, Jerry Smith of Central City and Jewel Ray Smith of Dayton, Ohio; three daughters, Gloria Bratcher of Greenville, Beverly Smith of Cleaton and Alesia Webber of Owensville, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace McClure of South Carrollton; and a stepsister, Genon Bratcher of Drakesboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial will be in New Hebron cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

EVANSVILLE -- Katherine Long, 79, of Evansville died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Regina Continuing Care Center from heart failure. The Utica native was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Her husband, Bernard E. Long, died April 2, 1984.

Survivors include five sons, Mark Long of Paducah, Michael Long and Donald Long, both of Newburgh, Ind., David Long of Evansville and Larry Bratcher of Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Borders of McDermitt, Ohio.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Nativity Catholic Church in Evansville. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Evansville. Alexander Funeral Homes & Cemeteries in Evansville is in charge of arrangements.
