LEWISPORT -- Joshua R. Morris, 20, of Lewisport died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in eastern Daviess County from injuries suffered in an auto accident. The Hancock County native was a member of Lewisport United Methodist Church, worked for Willamette Industries in the summer student program and attended University of Southern Indiana. He graduated from Hancock County High School in 1999 and was a member of the baseball team for five years and the basketball team for two years.

Survivors include his parents, Roger and Debbie Morris of Lewisport; grandparents, Marshal and Dorothy Morris of Hawesville and James "Abbie" and Iris Fay Covetts of Lewisport; a great-grandmother, Virginia Nichols of Hawesville; and a brother, Jordan Morris of Lewisport.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewisport United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lewisport cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Lewisport United Methodist Church Building Fund or Joshua R. Morris Scholarship Fund.

Mary Helen Gilles

Mary Helen Gilles, 82, of 1321 Center St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Owensboro native was a homemaker and trained employees at Ken-Rad in Seattle and Owensboro during World War II. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and enjoyed telling stories, fishing and camping.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Charles M. Gilles; three sons, Michael D. Gilles of South Carrolton and Dennis Gene Gilles and Joseph Allan Gilles, both of Owensboro; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rita Hamilton of Owensboro.

Services are at noon Friday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Blessed Mother Parish Center Building Fund.

Randall A. Ratliff Sr.

UTICA -- Randall A. Ratliff Sr., 58, of Utica died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at his home. The McLean County native retired from Local 1080 as a millwright and was a farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Hope General Baptist Church, Utica Lodge 742 F&AM and enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, NASCAR and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Paula Baker Ratliff; a son, Randall A. Ratliff Jr. of Lexington; a daughter, Andrea Ratliff of Utica; a granddaughter; his parents, Harlen and Mary Jane Ratliff of Calhoun; two brothers, David Ratliff of Livermore and Larry Ratliff of Owensboro; and a sister, Marilyn Nottingtham of Owensboro.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Utica cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Masonic services are at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro KY 42301.

Rudolph Lee Lack I
25 July 2001

TULSA, Okla. -- Rudolph Lee Lack I, 75, of Tulsa died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Turley, Okla., native retired as an educator from Tulsa Public School System and taught at several schools in the Tulsa area. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Joyce Lack.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Lack; a son, Rudolph Lack II of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three daughters, Cheryl Bradford of Tampa, Fla., Susan Millsap of Owensboro and Linda Lack of Riverview, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Bill Lack of Owasso, Okla.; and a sister, Violet Gavin.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Turley United Methodist Church in Turley, Okla. Burial will be in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Okla. Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow is in charge of arrangements. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of local arrangements.

Gregory Allen Moore

HARTFORD -- Gregory Allen Moore, 30, of Hartford died Monday, July 23, 2001, at his home. The Ohio County native was a member of Hartford Christian Church and enjoyed golf, baseball and swimming.

Survivors include his father, James Robert Moore of Jeffersonville, Ind.; his mother, Judith Bartlett Vanover of Hartford; paternal grandfather, James Walker Moore of Jeffersonville; maternal grandparents, Lawrence D. and Martha Allen Bartlett of Hartford; a brother, Robert Scott Moore of Jeffersonville; and a sister, Rebecca Moore Doss of Hartford.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

HOPKINSVILLE -- Emma L. Brown, 90 of Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville, died there Monday, July 2, 2001, of natural causes. The Celina, Tenn., native was a homemaker and retired employee of International Shoe Co. She was a member of Julien Baptist Church in Gracey. Her husband, Cordell Hull Brown, died in 1999.

Survivors include four sons, Manuel L. Brown and Paul R. Brown, both of Cadiz, Howard C. Brown of Owensboro and Dwight L. Brown of Gracey; three daughters Frazia McDonald and Frances Almy, both of Hopkinsville, and Minnie Greil of Wind Lake, Wis.; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, J. Parker Brown of Indianapolis; Wilburn Brown of Hilham, Tenn., and Houston Brown of Celina and Willard Brown of Cookeville; and four sisters, Eva Hall of Gainesboro, Tenn., Verda Miller of Rickman, Tenn., and Ona Collins and Opal Grissom, both of Noblesville, Ind.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville. Burial will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Hopkinsville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Julien Baptist Church, 3115 Gracey-Herndon Road, Gracey, KY 42232.

Mary Agnes Partridge

HENDERSON -- Mary Agnes Partridge, 85, of Henderson died there Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Redbanks Nursing Home. She retired from Klutey's Jewelry Store and was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Partridge in 1982; and a son, Charles C. Partridge in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Foster of Old Town, Fla.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Elizabeth Dowell of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at noon Friday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Henderson. Entombment will be in Fairmont Mausoleum in Henderson. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson. Prayers will be said at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lily R. Bolton Young

Lily R. Bolton Young, 83, of 1141 Greenbriar Road, Utica, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native was a homemaker, member of Utica Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking. She had been director for Women's Missionary Union, was nursery coordinator at the church and was active in Church Shut-In ministries.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Marvin O. Young; two sons, Phillip B. Young of New Albany, Ind., and Marvin D. Young of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Bonnie Y. Rhoads of Utica; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home chapel. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Utica Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8, Utica, KY 42376.

Don A. Cansler

Don A. Cansler, 71, of 808 Christopher Greenup Drive, Owensboro, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at his home. The Graham native retired from Green River Steel Co. after 33 years, was a member of Thruston United Methodist Church and an Army veteran. He was a member of Ensor Masonic Lodge 729 and enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Hilda Lee Cansler; a son, Loren Cansler of Louisville; two daughters, Regina Hayes of Owensboro and Donna Johnson of Hopkinsville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic services are at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Alvin Butler 'Buck' Gordon

HARTFORD -- Alvin Butler "Buck" Gordon, 80, of Hartford died there Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Professional Care Health & Rehabilitation Center. The Boyle County native retired from Diamond Chemical Co. in Atlanta, Ill., as a bagger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Phelps Gordon on Oct. 11, 1997; and a son, Roger Gordon in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn Gordon and Jim Gordon, both of Atlanta; a daughter, Ann Billington of Armington, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Claude Gordon, Rex Gordon and John Gordon, all of McLean, Ill.; and four sisters, Lucy Williams, Mildred Loecher, Liz Daugherty and Geneva Mayberry, all of Atlanta.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Carson cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ada D. Christian
4 July 2001

LEWISPORT -- Ada Dailey Christian, 98, of Lewisport died there Monday, July 2, 2001, at Heartland Villa Nursing Home. The Fayette County native was a homemaker and oldest member of Boones Creek Baptist Church in Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Davis Christian Sr., and a son, William Davis Christian Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Spurrier of Owensboro; two grandchildren; a brother, Pete Dailey Jr. of Clark County; and a sister, Carrie Agee of Richmond.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edgington, Mullins and Taylor Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Winchester cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
