Joseph W. Bartlett, 83, of 2253 Hoop Jr. Court, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired as a farmer and was a deacon and member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served 34 months, receiving a bronze battle star, a European, African and Middle Eastern campaign ribbon, and the Purple Heart while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Faye Bartlett.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Juanita Bartlett; two sons, Doug Bartlett of Madison, Ala., and Stanley Bartlett of Maceo; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hoover Bartlett of Owensboro and Wayman Bartlett of Frankfort; and a sister, Dorothy Jennings of Madisonville.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Gerald A. Bryan

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. -- Gerald A. Bryan, 80, of Madeira Beach died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at his home. The Owensboro native was a certified public accountant at B/W Tobacco for 25 years and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seminole, Fla. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, served in the European and Pacific Theaters and took part in the Normandy invasion.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth T. Bryan; two sons, James M. Bryan of Potomac, Md., and John P. Bryan of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bryan of Seminole; two grandsons; two granddaughters; and a sister, Helen Medley of Owensboro.
Services are Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seminole. Interment will be in Bay Pines (Fla.) National cemetery. E. James Reese Funeral Home P.A. in Seminole is in charge of arrangements.
Otha L. Joines

ROCKY HILL -- Otha L. Joines, 86, of Rocky Hill died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Medical Center of Bowling Green. The Muhlenberg County native was a transmission mechanic, a member of Fairview General Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Estes Joines.
Survivors include two daughters, Angelene "Ann" Morphew of Madisonville and Patricia Lou Harp of Rocky Hill; three grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Tipton of Beechmont.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Patton Funeral Home in Brownsville. Interment will be in Cave City cemetery in Cave City. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Heart Association.
Queenie Belle Horn

LOUISVILLE -- Queenie Belle Horn, 81, of Louisville died there Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Caritas Medical Center. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Horn.
Survivors include two sons, William Earl Horn of Shelbyville and Virgil Ray Horn of Hardinsburg; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Hardesty of Hartford; and two sisters, Geraldine Jarnigan of Orlando, Fla., and Georgia Tipmore of Owensboro.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Louisville. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Louisville. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Owen Funeral Home in Louisville.
Joseph Alden Stirsman

BREMEN -- Joseph Alden Stirsman, 82, of Bremen died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Select Hospital in Evansville. The Bremen native retired as a banker in September 2001 after 50 years of service. He had worked at Sacramento Deposit Bank and Citizens Deposit Bank. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bremen and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Rae Kathryn Stirsman, died in February 2000.
Survivors include a son, Steven Wayne Stirsman of Bremen; a daughter, Jo Lynn Vincent of Bowling Green; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Charles Stirsman of Louisville; and a sister, Mary Jane Monteith of Bristol, Ind.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. The body will lie in state after noon Monday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Parsonage Building Fund, c/o Bethlehem Baptist Church.
James E. Couty

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- James E. Couty, 84, of Vancouver died Sept. 13, 2001, at his home. The Owensboro native graduated from the University of Kentucky, retired from Meier and Frank and was active in the Clark County Planning Commission in the 1950s. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was a Major and received the Bronze Star. He enjoyed gardening, swimming, walking and animals. His first wife, Joan Couty, died in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Couty; a son, Bill Couty of Fairbanks, Alaska; a daughter, Laura Anderson of Vancouver; three grandsons; a granddaughter; his brother, Philip Couty of Carlsbad, Calif.; and six nephews and nieces.
Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver. Hamilton-Mylan-Knapp-Gunderson Funeral Home in Vancouver was in charge of arrangements.
John Thurman Ross

John Thurman Ross, 84, of 1700 Ford Ave., Owensboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The McLean County native retired from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of National Association of Retired Federals and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and watching University of Kentucky basketball.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sue Ross; a son, Steve Ross of Lexington; a daughter, Mary Bathrick of Lewisville, Texas; two grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. HAWESVILLE -- Virginia Hardin Nichols, 83, of Hawesville died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Hancock County native was a member of Mount Eden Baptist Church and a caregiver to the elderly. Her husband, Virgil Nichols, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Morris of Hawesville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Kirby Hardin of Indianapolis; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Eden Baptist Church near Hawesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday and until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville.
Brian J. 'Bub' Sivolella

BOONVILLE, Ind. -- Brian J. "Bub" Sivolella, 24, of Boonville died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Ind., from cerebral palsy. He attended special education multiple handicap class at Castle High School.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Daniel and Nell Sivolella of Powderly; his mother and stepfather, Debbie and Richard Aldridge of Boonville; his grandparents, James and Norma Rhinerson of Newburgh; his stepgrandmother, Dorothy Helms of Boonville; a sister, Amanda Sivolella of Newburgh; a stepbrother, Phillip Landers of Central City; and two stepsisters, Ruthie Commancho of Bremen and Cindy Eaves of Central City.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville chapel. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic cemetery in Newburgh. LOCUST HILL -- Helen Louise Drane, 59, of Locust Hill died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. The Lexington native was a housewife and attended Emmanuel Fellowship Church and Garfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by two sons; and a stepson, Tony Drane.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph D. Drane; a stepson, Jeff Drane of Hardinsburg; three daughters, Tina Compton and Veronica Armes, both of Locust Hill, and Misty Drane of Madrid; two stepdaughters, Jan Lampton of Louisville and Angie Drane of Indiana; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Butch Breeden and Frank Breeden Jr., both of Lexington; and a sister, Mary Lawson of Frankfort.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in Custer cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Katelin Michelle Edgell, infant daughter of Donald and Eugena Edgell of 7828 Kentucky 81, Owensboro, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.

Edgell of McLean County; paternal grandmother, Darlene Vertrees of Owensboro; maternal grandfather, Randal Wedding of Owensboro; maternal grandmother, Brenda Wedding of Mosleyville; maternal great-grandparents, Remus and Juanita Moore of Mosleyville; a sister, Ashley Taylor Edgell, at home; several uncles and aunts; and several cousins.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of Peace at Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. There is no visitation. JAMESTOWN, Tenn. -- Lillie Ellen "Ward" Taylor, 88, of Jamestown died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, in Cannelton, Ind. The Tennessee native was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Taylor.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenna Mae Garrett of Cannelton, Ind., and Jessie Rhea Burdett of Fayetteville, Ohio; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Ward of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Opal Weaver of Plano, Lois Spivey of Crossville, Tenn., and Thelma Ward of Dundee, Mich.; and several nephews and nieces.
Services were Tuesday at Jennings Funeral Home Chapel in Jamestown. Burial was in Taylor Place cemetery in Fentress County, Tenn. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
