William P. Clancy Jr., 76, of 1736 Navajo Drive, Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Wellington Parc from respiratory failure. The Louisville native was an agent for Metropolitan Life and a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and former president of the Mens Bible Class. He graduated from Centre College and was former president of Noon Optimist. He was an Army veteran and enjoyed golf, tennis and sailing.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lambert Clancy; a son, Percy Clancy of Owensboro; a daughter, Margaret West of Owensboro; and four grandchildren.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association, 950 B Kenmore Drive, Evansville, IN 47714 or First Presbyterian Church, 1328 Griffith Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Kimberly Joyce Bowman

MADISONVILLE -- Kimberly Joyce Bowman, 39, of Madisonville died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville from a brain aneurysm. The Madisonville native was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church in Nebo and a graduate of South Hopkins High School.

Survivors include her companion of 16 years, Tony O. Watson; a son, Tyrone "Ty" Antonio Bowman; seven brothers, Ronald Bowman and Gregory Bowman, both of Madisonville, Lawrence Bowman of Greenville, James Bowman of Henderson, Darrell Bowman and Jerrell Bowman, both of Marion, Ill., and Archie Bowman of Milwaukee; five sisters, Delma Cottoner of Louisville, Shelia Tandy and Susan Forrow, both of Madisonville, Rosie Blanton of Hopkinsville, and Cynthia Walker of Milwaukee; 45 nephews and nieces; 35 great-nephews and nieces; an uncle; and several cousins.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Madisonville. Burial will be in Barnes cemetery in White Plains. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday at Mason & Sons Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mary Louise Brown Quisenberry

Mary Louise Brown Quisenberry, 89, of 309 Wildwood Drive, Owensboro, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. The Hopkins County native was a member of First Christian Church and its Berean Sunday school class, for which she played piano for many years. Her husband, Everett S. Quisenberry, died in 1977.

Survivors include two sons, James E. Quisenberry and Robert B. Quisenberry, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Sarah Quisenberry of Lake Worth, Fla., and Marilyn Quisenberry Baird of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Shriners Hospital Memorial Fund, 1900 Richmond Ave., Lexington, KY 40502 or First Christian Church, 701 Daviess St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Coleman Dowell

HARDINSBURG -- Coleman Dowell, 88, of Hardinsburg died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Medco Center in Brandenburg. The Breckinridge County native retired from Kister Lumber Co. and Millwork as a carpenter, was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Sosh Dowell; and five daughters, Shirley Kelly, Bernice Henken, Dorothy Blackerby, Francis Elmore and Bettye Dowell.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Dowell; two sons, Jeffrey Dowell of Brandenburg and Gene Dowell of Louisville; three daughters, Cindy Dowell and Toni Norris, both of Louisville, and Judy Lyons of Hardinsburg; 31 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Jeff Dowell and Leonard Dowell, both of Hardinsburg; and two sisters, Vivian Swango of Louisville and Madalyn Harper of Hardinsburg.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in McQuady. Burial will be in St. Michael cemetery in Louisville. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society.

Genora Wright

ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Genora Wright, 81, of Rockport died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Richland, Ind., native was a homemaker. Her husband, Charles Wright, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Charles M. Wright of Richland; a daughter, Billie Ayer of Grandview, Ind.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Mae Parker of Bradenton, Fla.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport. Burial will be in James Parker cemetery in Hatfield, Ind. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Roy D. Bauman

ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Roy D. Bauman, 78, of Rockport died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System from a stroke. The Rockport native was a retired claims deputy for the state of Indiana. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 254, Lakewood Country Club, Ex-War Prisoner Organization, Evansville Chapter of the Society for Barber Shop Quartet Singing and was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Bauman; a son, Fred Bauman of Lebanon, Ohio; a daughter, Jane Ann Francisco of Columbus, Ind.; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery in Rockport. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

William 'Stump' Dennison

William "Stump" Dennison, 41, of 717 Idaho Lane, Owensboro, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at his parents' home. The Holyoke, Mass., native worked at Owensboro Grain Co. as a boiler operator and was a member of the Salvation Army. He enjoyed University of Kentucky athletics and spending time with his daughters.

Survivors include his companion, Penny Dennison; two daughters, Magan Dennison and Haley Dennison, both of Owensboro; his parents, Joe and Mary Jo Kelley Dennison of Owensboro; a brother, Jimmy Dennison of Owensboro; two sisters, Mary "Pudgy" Hatfield and Patty Carter, both of Owensboro; several nephews and nieces; and several uncles and aunts.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

James D. Lashbrook

James D. Lashbrook, 67, of Owensboro died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired as an attorney from private practice and attended Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a public defender for 13 years, an Army veteran and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He graduated from Brescia College with a business administration degree and received his master's from Ohio State University.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Linda K. Lashbrook; three sons, James D. Lashbrook Jr. of Utica, Greg Lashbrook of Reynolds Station and Brian Lashbrook of Owensboro; a daughter, Karen Lasher of Hawesville; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Brescia University Alumni Association, 717 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Lucille Canary

FORDSVILLE -- Lucille Canary, 84, of Fordsville died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. The Ohio County native was a homemaker and member of Providence Baptist Church. Her husband, Earl Canary, died on Dec. 18, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby E. Canary and James D. Canary, both of Fordsville; three daughters, Beverly Westerfield of Whiting, Ind., Martha Phillips of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Susie Russell of Schererville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gwendolyn Chapman of Owensboro, Mary Nancy Meyer of Michigan and Erman Hardesty of Hartford.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Providence Baptist Church in Fordsville. Burial will be in Fordsville cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Providence Baptist Church Building Fund.

Dorothy Jean Draeger

Dorothy Jean Draeger, 70, of 915 E. 19th St., Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Marion, Ill., native was an accountant for 31 years and retired from Draeger & Associates Inc. as secretary-treasurer. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of Tops Club for 25 years and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Jerome P. "Jerry" Draeger; four sons, Joseph Draeger of Decatur, Ill., Richard Draeger of Boonville, Ind., and Anthony Draeger and Aaron Draeger, both of Owensboro; three daughters, Denise O'Bryan of Owensboro, Beverly Bradley of Brookville, Ind., and Patricia Sheahan of Savannah, Ga.; 21 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, John McCree and Elbert McCree, both of Marion, Ill., and Donald McCree of Johnson City, Ill.; and three sisters, Elva Anderson and Norma Gordon, both of Marion, and Mary Ealey of Olney, Ill.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Diabetes Association, 1941 Bishop Lane, Suite 110, Louisville, KY 40218 or Sister Alberta Birkhead Scholarships Memorial Fund, Brescia University.

James T. Morehead

MADISONVILLE -- James T. Morehead, 87, of Madisonville, formerly of Drakesboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He retired from Island Creek Coal Co. in 1976 and was a member of St. Paul AME Zion Church in Drakesboro. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a sister, Elvie M. Finch of Evansville; three nephews; and two nieces.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Browder (Ky.) cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Mason & Son's Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Bessie Knight Gates
9 October 2001

SEBREE -- Bessie Knight Gates, 88, of Sebree died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her daughter's home. She was a member of Sebree United Methodist Church for 46 years where she served as church officer and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Homemakers Club and Webster County Homemakers Council. She managed Kwik-Pik in Sebree and worked at Sebree Variety Shop. Her husband, J.Z. Gates, died in 1970.

Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Whitledge of Clay; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Lillie Scott of Henderson and Betty Riggs of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sebree United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery in Sebree. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Vanover Funeral Home in Clay is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Anthony's Hospice of Webster County.
