GREENVILLE -- Rachel Hardison Henderson Kirk, 91, of Greenville, formerly of Deer Lick, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville. The Todd County native was a homemaker and member of Wiley's Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Kirk; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Home Inc. in Lewisburg. Burial will be in Wiley's Chapel cemetery in Lewisburg. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lucy Clyde Bean

NARROWS -- Lucy Clyde Bean, 91, of Narrows died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Ohio County Hospital. The Beaver Dam native was a homemaker and member of Hartford United Methodist Church. Her husband, William F. Bean, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, William J. "Billy" Bean of Narrows; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. today at Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Main St., Hartford, KY 42347 or American Red Cross Liberty Fund, P.O. Box 377, Hardinsburg, KY 40143.

Durward Brown
7 October 2001

Durward Brown, 80, of 3412 East Sixth St., Owensboro, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Hermitage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. The Ohio County native retired from General Electric and the State Parks Department as a maintenance worker. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696. He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Roberta Bale Brown; a son, Jim Brown of Owensboro; and two grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. today and after noon Monday at the funeral home.

Ann B. Fox

HILLIARD, Ohio -- Ann B. Fox, 88, of Hilliard, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Westminster Thurber Retirement Communities in Ohio. The Owensboro native was a homemaker. A son, Gerald A. Fox, died in 1993.

Survivors include a son, Larry R. Fox of Hilliard; two daughters, Shirley Fox of Springfield, Mo., and Gloria Fox of Hilliard; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Danny Carl Ball

CENTRAL CITY -- Danny Carl Ball, 56, of Central City died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at his home. The Muhlenberg County native was a belt line operator at Tennessee Valley Authority. He was an Air Force veteran and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen White Ball; his mother, Dorothy Ball of Central City; two brothers, Freddie J. Ball of Central City and M. Timothy Ball of Lucerne, Calif.; and a sister, Donna K. Manos of Jamul, Calif.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Birdine Carver
27 November 2001

BROWDER -- Birdine Carver, 82, of Browder died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Muhlenberg County native was a retired coal miner.

Survivors include a son, William Earl Carver of Penrod; two daughters, Carolyn Jean Brinkley of Browder and Diane Fitzhugh of Beechmont; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Carver of Greenville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Motee 'Tootsie' Deal Liggins
6 December 2001

Motee "Tootsie" Deal Liggins, 86, of 2509 W. 8th St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at the home of one of her daughters in Owensboro. The Owensboro native was a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church, former member of King's Daughters of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her husband, Jessie Liggins Sr., died in 1982.

Survivors include four sons, Jesse Liggins Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, William O. Liggins of Owensboro, Gerry Liggins of San Diego and Bruce Liggins of St. Louis; six daughters, Florence Black, Patricia Brown, Viola Young, Phyllis Samuels and Rita Webster, all of Owensboro, and Ava Marie McFarland of Madisonville; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ben Deal, Sherman Deal and Eugene Deal, all of Owensboro; two sisters, Modestine Howard of Owensboro and Shirley Clark of Evansville; several nephews and nieces; and several cousins.

Arrangements are pending at Young's Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Ruth Ann Cunningham
1 December 2001

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Ruth Ann Cunningham, 60, of Tell City died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County in Paoli, Ind., from a heart attack. The Tell City native was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Evanston, Ind., and had worked as an X-ray technician at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford, Ind. Her husband of 29 years, Arthur "Bud" Cunningham, died Dec. 26, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Carl J. Cunningham of Tell City; and a sister, Norma Marshall of Lanesville, Ind.

Services are at 11 a.m. EST Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.

George Lewis Jones

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- George Lewis Jones, 69, of Palm Springs died there Monday, Oct. 15, 2001. The Owensboro native retired from Inland Steel after 28 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Angelia Carol Jones; a son, Marvin Jones of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mericia Jones of Portage, Ind.; two grandsons; three brothers; and a sister.

Memorial services are at 3 p.m. today at Griffith Free Methodist Church in Griffith, Ind.

James L. Morris

LIVERMORE -- James L. Morris, 71, of Livermore died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The McLean County native retired from the Army as sergeant first class and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He enjoyed fishing and antique cars.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Miles Morris; a son, James F. Morris of Livermore; two daughters, Lisa D. Staves and Renita F. Casey, both of Livermore; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Terry Chambers of Calhoun; four sisters, Betty Morris of Calhoun, Linda Gish of Bremen, Judy Logsdon of Rumsey and Carolyn Chambers of Madisonville.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Livermore with full military honors conducted by the 101st Airborne Division. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Howard Phillip Cagle
4 December 2001

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. -- Howard Phillip Cagle, 79, of Huntingburg, formerly of Chicago, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville from complications after a stroke and renal failure. The De Kalb, Ill., native retired from the railroad in Chicago at 75 and was a member of the railroad workers' and painters' unions. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945 as an airplane mechanic and inspector and received seven Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and a Distinguished Unit Badge. He was preceded in death by two sons, Martin Cagle and Howard Cagle Jr.

Survivors include four sons, Geoffry Cagle of Virginia Beach, Va., Daniel Cagle of Huntingburg, James Cagle of Petersburg, Ind., and Raymond Cagle of Callahan, Fla.; five daughters, Alice Middleton of Rockport, Ind., Phyllis Mulligan of Gary, Ind., Patricia Rankin of Callahan, Edith Nugent of Gentryville, Fla., and Debra Kiegal of Tennyson, Ind.; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

Memorial services are at 6 p.m. EST today at Fuller Funeral Home, Huntingburg Memorial chapel. The body will be cremated. Visitation is after 2 p.m. EST today at the funeral home.

James T. Miller

TOMPKINSVILLE -- James T. "Jim Tom" Miller, 78, of Tompkinsville died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville after heart surgery and a brief illness. The Monroe County native taught vocational agriculture to adult farmers for 33 years in Monroe County and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a charter member of Calvary Christian Church and ministered in the county jail ministry. A son, Tim Lee Carter Miller, died in 1951.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Justyne Miller; a son, Ricky Miller of Tompkinsville; two daughters, Diane Scantland of Bowling Green and Joyce Miller of Owensboro; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four brothers, George Miller of Tompkinsville, Jack Miller of Franklin, Ind., David Miller of Georgetown, Ind., and Roger Miller of Bowling Green; and three sisters, Juanita Meredith of Bowling Green, Alicia Bowman of Tompkinsville and Sue Perkins of Harrodsburg.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Burial will be in Skaggs Creek cemetery near Tompkinsville. Visitation is from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Girls Incorporated of Owensboro.
