Franklin Armistead Downs
9 December 2001

SOUTH CARROLLTON -- Franklin Armistead Downs, 76, of South Carrollton died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

The Muhlenberg County native retired from Kentucky Utilities Green River power station as a maintenance and ground crew supervisor and was a member of South Carrollton Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lila Wilcox Downs; a son, David Downs of South Carrollton; a daughter, Sandra Kidd of Bremen; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Gwen Ella Watkins of South Carrollton; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery in South Carrollton.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Charles Hart
29 November 2001

DALE, Ind. -- Charles Hart, 73, of Dale died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville from heart complications.

The Boonville, Ind., native pastored at Johnson's Chapel for more than 20 years and retired from Winkler's Warehouse in Dale in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Fae Hart, in 1993; and a son, Charles Rodney Hart, in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Nick Hart of Gentryville, Ind., and Keith Hart of Wadesville, Ind.; two daughters, Kathy Seifrig of Dale and Jane Dyson of Evansville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Miller of Chrisney, Ind.; and a stepsister, Shirley Nix of Boonville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory, Dale chapel.

Burial will be in Garden of Memory cemetery near Dale.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The Rev. Edgar Taylor
28 November 2001

PRINCETON -- The Rev. Edgar Taylor, 88, formerly of Princeton, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System after a long illness.

The Trigg County native retired as a minister and was a veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Rockport (Ky.) Baptist Church and was ordained by Wallonia Baptist Church in 1952.

He pastored at churches in Caldwell and Lyon counties and received a degree from Western Kentucky Baptist Bible Institute.

His wife, Ester Noel Taylor, died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, James E. Taylor of Sebree; a daughter, Gloria Taylor Barnes of Rockport, Ky.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ambie Mason of Christian County and Addie Lee Boardman of Princeton.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton.

Burial will be in Millwood cemetery near Princeton.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Maybelle Cash
1 December 2001

HARTFORD -- Maybelle Cash, 82, of Hartford died there Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Professional Care Health & Rehab Center.

The Hopkins County native was a retired beautician from HI-Fashion Beauty Salon and was a member of Madisonville First Christian Church.

Her husband, Robert C. Cash, died in December 1964.

Survivors include a son, Ted Cash of Hartford; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mary Annie Evans
24 November 2001

Mary Annie Evans, 98, of Whitesville died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro.

The Daviess County native was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, St. Mary's Altar Society and Whitesville Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Evans, on Aug. 26, 1926; and a son, Paulinus Evans, on Feb. 9, 2000.

Survivors include a son, Ed Evans of Whitesville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Angela Howard of Carlinville, Ill.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville.

Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Whitesville.

Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville.

Prayers will be said at 7:15 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church Building Fund.

Charlotte Hein

Charlotte Hein, 76, of 708 Canterbury Road, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.

The Daviess County native retired as secretary from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was a member.

She volunteered at the Help Office of Owensboro and was a member of the Altar Society.

She enjoyed Owensboro Catholic softball, shopping for antiques, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Gene Hein; two sons, Gregory Hine of Louisville and John Hein of Owensboro; two daughters, Betsy Jones of Owensboro and Caroline Ann Jones of Lexington; five grandchildren; a brother, Albert Laub Jr. of Owensboro; and two sisters, Mary Ann Montgomery and Betty Jo Laub, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro.

Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association Inc., 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

EDDYVILLE -- Jim Brantley, 73, of Eddyville, formerly of Lexington, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton, after a short illness.

The Shawneetown, Ill., native was retired owner-operator of Elite Pest Control, a veteran of the Navy and Air Force and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Brantley; three sons, Bill Brantley and Eddie Brantley, both of Lexington, and Jimmy Dale Hensley of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Audrey Brantley of Knoxville, Tenn., and Linda Babbs of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, William R. Brantley of Corydon, Harold Gene Brantley of Bowling Green and Dale Brantley of Salem; two sisters, Jo Ann Cavanah of Hartford and Carolyn Jo Clevenger of Henderson; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Milward Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Lexington.

Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton and from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Milward Funeral Home.

Stewart Houze Jr.
29 November 2001

DALE, Ind. -- Stewart Houze Jr., 55, of Dale died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Tennyson, Ind., from a heart attack.

The Lawrenceburg, Ind., native was self-employed in the craft business and was an Army veteran, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rousch Houze; his mother, Dorothy Houze of Lawrenceburg; a brother, Robert Houze of Virginia; and two sisters, Margie Holliday and Jolee Wullenweber, both of Lawrenceburg.

Private services are today at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory, Dale chapel.

Burial will be at a later date.

LeRoy Cecil
1 December 2001

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- LeRoy Cecil, 80, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Fountainbleau Nursing Facility in Cape Girardeau.

The Owensboro native retired from General Electric after 47 years of service.

He was a charter member of Owensboro Christian Church, the Evansville Coin Club and Daviess County Fish & Game Association.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and camping.

His wife of 22 years, Lillian Gray Cecil, died Aug. 28, 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Cecil Robinson of Cape Girardeau and Cheryl Cecil Hamer of Malibar, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Building Fund, Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Rd., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Mary Howerton Morgan

CENTRAL CITY -- Mary Howerton Morgan, 94, of Central City died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.

The Muhlenberg County native retired from Jefferson County School System as a librarian, had been a librarian in Muhlenberg County and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Central City.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery in Central City.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
